Perfect location.

Perfect location, as it's very close to the train station as well as the deer park. The room had everything you needed and a very comfortable bed. The communal ktchen area was excellent and again has everything you could possibly need and also a lovely eating area. Everything was perfect. The host was also very helpful and friendly.
Highly recommend staying here.

チェックインした時のフロントデスクのスタッフさんがとても親切に観光地の説明をしてくれ、お陰様で十分に奈良を楽しむ事が出来ました。

お部屋はきちんと掃除されていましたが、湿気のせいでトイレのスクリーンが黒くなってる所が有りました。
そしてトイレのシンクがとても小さかったです。手を洗うのみって感じで、顔を洗う事は出来ませんでした。

場所はJR奈良駅から近いので、観光には最適です。

This property is very easily reached on foot from the Nara station: just walk out the exit, take a right down the street until you see the AB hotel, then take that road until you read the “Guesthouse Narakomachi” in huge letters on the building.

I let them know that we would arrive after 22h, and the instructions for entering the building and my room were taped to the entrance, just waiting for me! And, the staff waited for me anyhow, until I arrived at 23h30.

The room was very clean, with a fresh, bright bathroom: toilet, sink, shower, laundry-hanging facilities.

The staff were amazing in the morning, too. We got lots of tips for our one-day visit, and rented bicycles with locks, for 500¥/day. Wow! Great way to Beetle around Nara!

This is a compact, beautiful town, and we of course lived the deer: national treasure who love eating out of your hands, often bowing before and after!

It was a nice room, very clean and quite. They have small kitchen area near reception, you can make coffee or tea there. They also had microwave and small fridge, so was convenient for storing my matcha icecream! The room wasn’t big but it was still acceptable. Mattresses were comfortable. The toilet sound insulation was not so great because it was traditional paper door. Otherwise good.

This guesthouse is very close by the station, just a short walk away. Lovely place, very clean and well decorated room. Absolutely loved the stay there. Amenities were great, easy to get to temples and Nara park from the guest house. Very clean and staff very helpful. Would stay again.

Nara Komachi was a fantastic hostel. I stayed here one night in a private double bed room. The room was clean and the bed was the best I had in Japan. The staff was friendly and the hostel is 5 minutes walking to the train station of Nara and 15-20 minutes to Nara Park. Recommended.

Great stay in Nara

I had a short 2 day stay before attending a conference in Kyoto. Nara itself is a lovely place and I’m very glad I visited. The guesthouse is ideally located for JR Nara and is a pleasant and easy walk to everywhere you’d want to go. I stayed in a ‘Japanese style’ room (slightly different from ryokan I’ve stayed in). It was clean, comfortable and excellent value. The staff have excellent English and are happy to explain things (I.e. air con controls which are in Japanese!) and kindly illustrated a city map for me with all the best places to visit. I really enjoyed my stay here and highly recommend, especially for student/budget travellers looking for somewhere affordable but still quiet, clean and comfortable. It has everything you need.
For visiting Nara, I’d recommend trying a tour with Nara Guide Club. My guide (Yukinori Kawabe) was a retired primary school teacher who was a wonderful ambassador for his city and helped me get the most out of my short visit without simply trekking from one tourist hotspot to the next. It’s free, and a great way to learn about the area, it’s history, culture and people from someone who really knows!

This was an awesome location and beautifully furnished room with chairs and bunk beds. Was a very comfortable mix of a traditional ryokan and Western hotel room. We were in walking distance of all the best areas in Nara and rented a bike from the hotel one of the days we were there. The only gripe I had was some hairs were found in the top bunk area so the cleanliness could be improved.

Room was comfortable, the staff member we dealt with (owner?) was very friendly, took our bags up to our room after we dropped them (before check-in), and offered a selection of anime to read etc.
I can see why this place has such great reviews, we would definitely stay here again!

This is one of the best stays I have had in Japan. As I arrived at Guesthouse Narakomachi (very conveniently located near the JR Nara Station), I was warmly greeted by the staff. They provided some recommendations as to where to go in Nara, which I found extremely helpful.
The Japanese-style room was very comfortable, and amenities were simple yet sufficient for a pleasant stay. Cleanliness was maintained to a very high standard. Overall, I'd highly recommend this place to stay in Nara.

Small guesthouse, close to train station. Not much to offer, except cheap rate. room tiny, with the bathroom area separated from bed space by a glass window; if you need privacy, then you can pull down a window shade.
There is no closet space, no window to look out, although the bath space has a small opaque window for a bit of light. The bed was fine, and hot water for shower plentiful- have to wait a few minutes. The mini-sink has only cold water. They provide one, very thin, warn bath towel.
Common space, including entrance and hallway is cluttered.

This was the perfect spot. Close to the public transportation which made it easy to get to. We rented bikes for only 500 yen a day from the guesthouse and road all over Nara Park. The room had its own shower and bathroom. Everything was super clean and very stylish.

Good location for sights and transfer bus from airport. The ability to drop off our bags was really helpful ahead of the room being ready. The owners were helpful and loaned us a socket converter. Welcoming reception with small kitchen and some seating with the ability to grab a free dring. Room was small but very functional for a shirt stay. We would stay again.

Value for money, convenient location

5-minute walk from JR Nara Station which also has a bus station. Very easy to find and in a quite location. We stayed in the Japanese-style room. The owner speaks excellent English. He brought our luggage to our room and show us our room. Room comes with attached bathroom & toilet. Computers & free flow of coffee and tea at the lobby. There is a well equipped kitchen. There is also bicycle for hire. Convenience stores, supermarket & restaurants within a 5-minute walk. Within walking distance to Nara Park. We left our luggage at the reception and went to Nara Park early in the morning. Would stay there again without hesitation. The bathroom sink is a bit small but this is common in Japan.

I booked a private room, and it was great. The guesthouse is located 5 minutes of walking from Nara Station and everything is within walking distance. The walls are a little thin, but the beds were comfortable and everybody went to sleep early. The hosts are very helpful and spoke great english. I would definitely recommend this guesthouse if you go to Nara!

Guesthouse Narakomachi was a wonderful place to stay. Within walking distance to public trans, shops, restaurants, museums and temples. The rooms were great and comfortable. A modern designed room to fit most any needs. There was a kitchen that had everything you needed. Free coffee/tea in main lobby. The host was very hospitable and accommodating. Wish we would have stayed longer.

Our family of three stayed here in April in a four bed family room. It was a comfortable room with bunk beds and a great shower. The owners are very nice and helpful. We arrived at noon and check in is not until 3 pm but they took our bags and held them so that we could walk around and come back later. When we arrived in the evening after spending the day sightseeing, our room was prepared with our bags waiting for us and we were given a personal tour of the room with directions on how to turn on the air conditioning unit, the tv, etc. This is really close to the JR train station and walkable to Nara park. The hotel has bikes on premises available to rent for $500 yen a day. Highly recommended!

This guesthouse is nice, modern yet simple. It's located close to the train station which is a huge plus. However it's a bit far from the main attractions in Nara (~20-25 minute walk to Nara park). The area in which the hotel is located is not great -- it feels a bit sketchy and there are no shops nearby except a few by the train station. Otherwise, great place to stay in Nara. The staff are very nice and accommodating, and speak great English. We stayed in a room with a private bathroom which was great, modern, felt renovated (up to date), but not spacious as expected in Japan.

We arrived to check in ~3 pm. My husband could not find the booking confirmation I had printed- just at that moment. I showed the proprietor my passport instead. He said he had no booking in that name. We left and found another Hotel.
My husband found the booking confirmation later that afternoon- it was in my name.
We went back to the Hotel next day. We were told yes - there had been in fact a booking in my name after all the day before - but the proprietor had been confused by seeing my middle name on the passport. The booking name did not include my middle name - so he thought it was some other person. A problem of language in Japan. We have had no difficulties at other hotels with just stating the name it was booked under and showing passport

Super clever use of their tiny space!

We were there for less than a day just to do the Nara park and to see the buddha. Although the room was tiny, they really did a nice job of putting all the facilities needed (shower/toilet). The reception was very, very helpful and friendly. The common kitchen area was full of utensils and there were a huge fridge and a freezer. Great price for what we get.

The rooms are tiny but very well organized. We were four (two adults and two kids) in the room and we slept on two bunkbeds. The bathroom was creatively squeezed at one end of the room. The only problem was that when the privacy curtain was lowered between the toilet and the room, there is no natural light in the room. All in all, it's a great place for a short stay.

Recommended! This guesthouse is an easy walk from the JR train station. Very clean, and well run with a friendly staff. They have a kitchen and dining table for guest use. Two computers in the lobby for guest use along with the wifi.
There are inexpensive restaurants nearby, and the train station has a major supermarket and two convenience stores. NOTE: After hours, the reception desk is closed and you cannot check in; however once you are checked in you receive an entry code which will allow you to enter the lobby after hours. The neighborhood seemed safe. The bed was of medium softness. Toilet and bedding were Western style. Another note: Sunrise and sunset both seemed to occur early in the Kansai region; the early mornings were a wonderful time to walk. Last note: The manager can sell you a one day bus pass for under US $5 which is a great way to get around; although Nara is small enough to walk to most tourist destinations.
I would definitely stay there again.

Great little guesthouse near JR Nara station. It's a longer walk to Nara Park compared to Kintetsu station but is still within walking distance. Had a Japanese style room with futon and tatami mat which was very nice. Heating took quite a while to warm up the room but I was there on an exceptionally cold day. Reception spoke English and was very friendly. All in all, had a very pleasant stay.

One Night Stay at Guesthouse Narakomachi

Upon arrival at the guesthouse, it appears the receptionist was very busy and did not bother to greet us. My friend and I stood at the entrance for nearly 5 minutes before the receptionist came to assist. We dropped our luggage off and came back in the later afternoon to check-in. Thank god, we got a room on the very first floor. FYI, they do not have lift so you would have to drag your luggage up if you stay on the second floor. The rooms was not exactly big but clean and comfortable enough. The shower room is awesome; it seems like a see-through bathroom on pictures but in reality there are curtains you can draw down. However, their basin is extremely small and it does not have a heater. So during winter days, you can only wash your poor cold hands with cold water after using the bathroom. The guesthouse provides free coffee, tea, water which you can help yourself to during the stay. Overall, the stay at the guesthouse was great but could do some minor improvements.

A great guesthouse!

The guest house is super easy to find, a very short walk from the train station. From the train station cross the main road at the traffic lights at the Lawson. Once you have crossed the road turn right and then take the first left after the \"Comfort Hotel\". This street is opposite a restaurant which has a very large orange and blue sign with what looks like a bowling ball on it. You can see the black, red and white guest house sign from the main road. It is next to a carpark. The owner of the guesthouse is a lovely gentleman, and his staff are also very friendly and helpful. There is a coin laundry about 3 minutes walk away. Great decore! I definitely would stay here again!

No brainer close to Nara Train Station

Can't say enough great things about this stay. 5 minute easy walk from/to Nara train station. We arrived early and were relieved we could leave our heavy packs to continue visiting Nara. When we returned our luggage was already in our room and ready for us. The room was very nice and clean with a comfortable bed for two. Convenient to have a private washroom and shower. The owner is very nice and was a great host with a good command of english. Great added features we appreciated was a communal kitchen, fridge and eating area. Also free coffee and tea. These are such nice touches which add great value. Love this place and would definitely stay again. Definitely best place we stayed in Japan anywhere near this price range.

We had a wonderful time at this guesthouse. The person running it was more than helpful, spoke relatively good english. He let us drop off our bags early while we went to explore the town. Even though we got the nicest room at the guesthouse, it was still only about $55/night. It's very close to the JR station too.

Very good experience with not expensive price.

The receptionist can speak very good english so you will not have problem of communication.

Both the room and the common areas are very clean and well-designed. I do appreciate the design of the common areas very much which makes the limited space surprising and cosy. The kitchen is well equipped and well cleaned. You can enjoy reading lots of comics -if you can understand japanese.

For the location, it is not far from the jr station. It takes me about 8minutes walk from the station and is not difficult to find. Some simple restaurants and aeon operates till late night. I can sure you don't have to worry about food before 11 pm.

I love this place very much.it worth the 5-stars rating!

The guesthouse and room were like new. Room was cosy, space efficient and clean. In front of reception is kitchen with bar table all is very smart designed and gives a very homey feeling.
Great location: It is 5 min walking from the main station and the main shopping street is also 5 min walking distance.
the owner was very kind and helpful with advices on what to do/see and spoke good English.
they have a bike-rental service. I Would stay there again.

We stayed in Nara for 4 days and this accommodation was perfect. The host was extremely helpful with information and the location made sight-seeing a breeze. A big plus was the bed - it was by far the comfiest we had all trip! I would highly recommend staying here.

Facilities are very new and clean, despite the fact that everything is compact. It's much better than other hostels in Nara . The location is good too as it is close to JR station where you can also find a cheap supermarket Maxvalu.

Good choice

Great and affordable place to stay in Nara. Very clean room and kitchen which you can use for breakfast or other meals (only 1
Stove). We stayed nu the Japanese room which is fine. However, we found the cushion and mattress a bit too soft.

Guesthouse Narakomachi is where I would stay again next time I come to Nara. The staff is very pleasant. The hotel is in great condition. The rooms are very, very clean. The location is superb. It is a few minutes walk from JR, supermarket, convenient stores, and many, many delicious restaurants. The great Nara tourist attractions are all within walking distance as well. The great Todaiji Temple is about a 30 to 40-minute hike. All along the way are other beautiful temples and shrines that will draw you in.

Lovely reasonably priced Japanese room

Only there one night but made to feel very welcome. We had the traditional Japanese room with futon and it was very comfortable. We didn't use the kitchen facilities but it looked like there was everything you needed to make a meal. The owner was very helpful and laid out lots of complimentary drinks and snacks.

Beautiful Guesthouse

Hotels.com recommended this guesthouse when we were originally searching for a place to stay in Kyoto. We stayed here for 3 nights and it was the best recommendation. The room were super clean with heated toilet seats. It is walking distance to the temples and deer park. We had a chance to rent bikes for 1/2 a day and visited Heijō Palace. The staff makes you feel right at home.

A PERFECT STAY

We stayed for 3 nights. Due the Guesthouse was very small, but it was very comfortable and very clean. It was just 5 min walk from JR station and with the supermarket in the station, we can buy food and cooked at the Guesthouse. And the Guesthouse is very close by to the shopping centre. I would said it was a perfect holiday where everything was so convenient.

Wow, Wow, Wow! We, 8 of us are amazed by this Guesthouse which was beyond our expectation. The interior design was superb. We love it. Cleanliness was superb. We had a very, very comfortable one night stay. Cooking are available. Owner, Taki was very accommodative, friendly, spoke excellent English and always put up a smile on his face. Parking is fantastic, just next door. Restaurants and convenient stores are nearby.

I checked in late and was really worried. But the receptionist was really helpful and left me the code and password so I was able to check in despite being past 11 at night. Was really grateful.

Small, friendly guesthouse close to train station

I stayed here for 2 nights. The guesthouse is a short walk from Nara JR station. The main sights of Nara are all fairly close, and mostly reached by foot or bicycle. So you can walk to Nara park, the main shopping arcade, and either of the two train stations.

The room had two bunk beds, which were reasonably comfortable. The bathroom was a bit unusual in that it was only separated from the room by a clear glass sliding door. There's a large blind that can be lowered over the whole thing but it would be a bit cumbersome for every time one of you wants to use the toilet. I was traveling alone so it didn't bother me.

The room included free wifi, good air conditioning, a TV and desk. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and spoke very good English.

We loved our stay here!

We had a room for four with 2 bunk beds. It was perfect for myself, my husband and our twin 10 year old's. We stayed for four nights and thought the service and accommodation was just great. My son played video games downstairs and the owner let my twins play mini-pool one night. Wifi was great as was the air-conditioning. Great location with close to the train station but you need to walk to the deer park or take a $10 U.S cab. Room was very clean, sure it's tiny but it's all you need.

Cosy in a great location

Short walk from station. Small but well appointed. Staff welcoming and helpful. There are bikes for hire (500Y for 24 hours). Best way to see sites and get around Nara. Recommend using the bikes as it is a bike friendly place and it will take a long time to get around if you decide walk. When you go to the historic sites keep your eye open for the volunteers (seem to be retired people and have a tag hanging around their necks). They are a wealth of free information. Really enjoyed our stay here.
