The hotel staff were all very warm and welcoming, making the stay feel cozy and pleasant. Although the hotel is about a 20-minute walk from the port and major attractions, the complimentary shuttle service is very convenient and generally available upon request during working hours. Considering the price, it's a great value for money.

The staff went over & above to make this such a memorable experience for my family & I… from the courteous welcome, to the authentic Japanese breakfasts & private dinners… the courtesy bus available at any point to drop us into town & collect us when we needed them, the bike hire which we used to explore the island… all so homely & truly memorable. Miyajima Island is so worthwhile an experience when visiting Japan & only 10 minutes by ferry to Hiroshima… such a beautiful experience for my whole family… we explored in winter… would love to go back in Autumn as well. Loved it!!!

Lovely stay in a Japanese style hotel. We are travelling around Japan and this is the only traditional hotel we have stayed in. We loved the experience of slippers on arrival, yukata robe for dinner, futons transforming our tatami room to a bedroom, traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast. Super helpful staff for us novices!

This hotel was as advertised: at a distance from the ferry, secluded from the tourist sites, and an authentic Japanese experience re: meals, onsen, and sleeping setup. The facilities are somewhat dated, but the onsen was great and tolerant of tatoos. The food was plentiful and the on-site store had a lot of souvenirs at the same price as elsewhere on Miyajima. It was definitely the least comfortable night we had in our three weeks, however. Having access to the anticipated dinner and breakfast menu during booking would also help manage expectations.

Everything about this hotel is perfect. The staff were incredible and very accommodating. The shuttle service was very convenient and made sure to wait for everyone. The dinner and breakfast were both amazing, it was really great getting two meals full of local foods. The view out the hotel window was fantastic, we could sit and just look outside for hours at the deer walking around the beach. It was a perfect mix of traditional Japanese hospitality with modern comfort and convenience. Our favorite hotel we stayed at during our two weeks in Japan.

Stayed overnight whilst on Miyajima and had the Kaiseki dinner and Japanese breakfast included. The room was a traditional Japanese style with the futon beds made up for you after having dinner in your room. We had an ocean view room with large windows allowing you to enjoy the view. The staff were superb, friendly and very attentive. The dinner was beautiful and delicious, we were lucky to visit during oyster season, the deep fried oysters were particularly nice. A very handy shuttle bus is provided to and from the ferry terminal.

Very rewarding experience

This stay was uniquely amazing . Stayed for one night yet enjoyed thoroughly the amenities of the hotel . Every single staff member was extremely nice and it was easy to communicate as most of them spoke very fluent english.
There is a shuttle bus that goes back and forth from the hotel to the port constantly which allows you to explore the island without worrying about transportation back to the hotel.

Keep in mind this hotel will serve dinner and breakfast , so don’t book any dinner/breakfast reservations as this will positively surprise and satisfy you.

Wifi works great.
Check in and out times are strictly at 3 pm and 10 am.

At comfort I did reduce the star as the comforters are not as comfortable. I did wake up a bit sore , but I understand it is part of the experience .

Overall , great experience which I look forward to repeating.

On our trip to Japan we wanted to experience a Ryokan. The Miyajima Seaside Hotel meshed perfectly with our desire to visit Miyajima. The service was excellent. The view of the water from our room was picturesque. Being serviced dinner in our room was a first for us and having a traditional Japanese ryokan dinner and breakfast was is something we will not forget.

Imagine you’ve picked up a yellowed copy of National Geographic from 1972. You see an article titled “Serenity by the Sea: Discovering the Timeless Charm of a Seaside Ryokan in Miyajima”. The photos show a traditional hotel with the fashionable colours of the 70s: brown, beige and yellow. That’s what the hotel looks like even today, with almost no updates: including to the furniture and bathroom facilities.

I feel a little guilty criticizing the place, since, as other reviewers have said, the staff try hard. The shuttle service was good. The view was okay at sunrise. Also, the other guests (almost all non-Japanese) looked happy with their yukatas and the traditional food.

However, based on the price and marketing (which almost makes it sound like a resort), I expected the standards to be higher. As others have said, the bath facilities are really mediocre and outdated. The futon was nothing like the comfortable ones at other ryokans. The food would be impressive for your first meal in Japan, but not for your 10th. Also, the room stank. It should be aired out between visits, at least.

So if you want to do a little time travel, come here, but don’t expect too much. I’m only posting this because if you only look at the most recent reviews, you may get an inaccurate image of this place. Look at the one and two star reviews as well: things haven’t improved since then. This was our only poor experience in a Japanese hotel, and it was way too expensive for what it offered.

This is a beautiful hotel experience in Ryokan style. The kaiseke meal that is served is a unique experience and one we will treasure. The room is designed beautifully and all of the hotel staff were lovely. It is a great hotel for a complete break during a tour of Japan. Miyajima island is very beautiful and we would recommend this hotel to anyone. The ferry service with luggage is also very helpful.

Very nice traditional hotel in Miyajima. We liked the overall experience and being able to stay on the island overnight. It is a bit isolated and the shuttle to the ferry and the main tourist area runs every 30mn. Quality of Wi-Fi was not great. The rooms could ask gain from being renovated.

We wanted to stay at a ryokan during our Japan trip and Miyajima Seaside hotel gave us that experience without breaking the bank. They served us dinner in our room which was very special and laid out the futons for us while we were out. They also had breakfast, which was very helpful for us to start the day. They had an espresso machine in the lobby and there were toys there for kids to play with. Their shuttle service was amazing and we were able to explore without our luggage. Staff were very efficient and considerate.

They picked up our luggage at the ferry port. That allowed us to do some sight seeing before the check-in. When we were ready to go to the hotel, the tourist information center helped to call the shuttle again. The place was absolutely clean. Our room was spacious with a view. Dinner and breakfast service was awesome. Dinner was served in the room by a very nice lady who explained all the courses in the multi-course menu before leaving us to enjoy the meal and returned just in time with the dessert. We also enjoyed the onsen. It was next to a small garden. We were given yukatas on arrival. Overall a very relaxing and memorable experience.

We stayed a night at this lovely hotel during our Japan vacation. We felt so welcomed and well cared for at this Miyajima Seaside.

The staff went above and beyond to take care of us and answer any questions. The hospitality was some of the best I’ve ever experienced.

Other features we loved: the shuttle service was perfect. We never had to wait more than 5 minutes for it. The onsen was terrific and exactly what we needed after a long day. Dinner and breakfast were a fun adventure and very immersive.

Excellent service at an older hotel. A bit far from the center of everything, but free shuttles are offered. Food was yummy.Hot spring was run down and small compared to other places I've stayed throughout Japan. All the staff was very nice and friendly.

The shuttle bus arrive 5 minutes after we spoke to the tourist information staff on the Miyajima port. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful. The traditional dinner and breakfast for us are nice which include oyster. There is a detail instruction about how to use their yukata and onsen, instruction is located in the closet in the room.

Overrated property from an other era. Needs a major overhauling. Bad smell in the toilet part of the bathroom area. Bug found in the room, but probably normal for a beach side property. Staff made a difference by their politeness and smiles. Half board price highly exaggerated: 450$ per night for 2 people is a scandal for what we got.

We had an incredible trip to Miyajima Seaside hotel. The bus came to pick us up both days, the second day after they had stopped running so they could get us back to the hotel. The rooms were large and the view from our balcony was excellent. The food was incredible and a real highlight of our trip to Japan. Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful night at the Miyajima Seaside Hotel. They picked up our bags at the ferry landing when we arrived, so we could explore without our luggage. This was so helpful! The hotel itself isn’t brand new, but that was just fine. The Kaiseki dinner and breakfast were both delicious. We both really enjoyed their Onsen as well. This is the only tattoo-friendly onsen we have come across so far! The bedding wasn’t the most comfortable, but we didn’t necessarily expect it to be as comfortable as a standard bed. The staff were all so nice. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it to a traveler who wants to experience Kaiseki and have a nice relaxing place to stay! The price was amazing for all that we received.

We loved this traditional Japanese ryokan. From the fast friendly free shuttle service, bags to our rooms. Beautiful delicious dinners in our rooms and breakfast was great. Staff super friendly and helpful rooms were spacious and a great view. The public baths / onsen was perfect. They had karaoke, ping pong, gift shop, free laundry. It was the best choice for our stay just a quick 10 minute ferry ride from Hiroshima

The hotel was a little out dated, but our room had everything you needed and was impeccably clean. We had a lovely sea view and loved the traditional room sleeping on the floor. The Japanese breakfasts were amazing, so much variety and different each day. We really enjoyed our Japanese dinner in our room and the food was first class. We had non seafood eaters in our group and that was no problem, they prepared us equally delicious food. Seafood lovers will love all the seafood – oysters, fish and prawns all prepared to perfection in a variety of ways. The staff were all wonderful, but particularly the girls that served us dinner, making our stay even more special. The hotel is a little way out of the centre of town, but the hotel provides a free shuttle service that only takes about 5 mins to get into town. We all really enjoyed our stay.

Old school charm and wonderful staff!

Miyajima Seaside Hotel is a charming hotel that exudes character. The staff is very helpful, and it is very easy to contact the shuttle bus pickup through the information center at the pier. The staff is also very amazing, and are very considerate; they all made sure that my parents (65+) and I were comfortable. There are also bike rentals available, as well as an English speaking tour of the island that one can book (seen in the elevator). They also offer special complimentary shuttles at night to view the Torii. The in room dinner and banquet room Japanese breakfast were delicious. The staff that served the food were very kind and hospitable; the turnover futon service was fast and efficient. The Miyajima Seaside Hotel was a terrific experience for my family. We all loved the charm of this hotel, and we actually preferred the slight distance off the main strip to decompress. There is also a nice Onsen area at the hotel to help with post-hiking aches.

Delightful island hotel

This hotel provided one of our most special experiences in Japan. It is beautifully located onan island about 45-60 minutes from Hiroshima, easily accessed by train and a short ferry ride. The hotel is a ryokan. We had a large room facing the water. Dinner was served Japanese style in the room. The meal was a kaiseki (which I believe means a special dinner). There were many different foods served, all interesting. After the meal, two from the staff set up our futon beds which were very comfortable.All in all it was a very memorable experience

A wonderful place set away from the crowds. Could walk or take the hotel shuttle. Staff was fantastic. Food service was exceptional. Takes some getting used to sleeping on mats but overall it was a great experience

Traditional Japanese Hotel on a Beautiful Island

Lovely peaceful hotel. Polite and helpful staff. Good quality traditional Japanese food provided. Stored our baggage when we arrived early and the following day when we were leaving the hotel. The hotel was only a short distance from the main centre and hotel providdd transport there.

Very welcoming and cozy Ryokan style hotel

We stayed here for one night and it was an amazing experience. Our first Ryokan accom,odation during our 2 week Japan trip, it was a truly unique experience. The staff is amazingly nice and welcoming, and the Japanese style dinner is cooked for you in your traditional Japanese room and it is really a six course meal! Lots of great and really traditional Japanese food to try, I highly recommend to try all of it even it this means eating snails! They are quick to pick you up and drive you to the ferry terminal free of charge and even bring your suitcases right to the terminal before leaving the island. Really great place and Miyajima is just beautiful with the floating gate / swimming shrine as one of Japan's most memorable sights / views!

Wonderful stay on a beautiful island

We loved this wonderful hotel and onsen (hot baths). The staff was welcoming and spoke English. The family room was spacious with a gorgeous view of the ocean. There were both western style beds and tatami futon options. The baths were nice after a long day of siteseeing and the dinner was made of small plates of local foods. It was not located near the ferry port so you need to take the shuttle to all the sites. The shuttle is free and leaves often. We liked the secluded location, behind the hotel was a forest full of deer. We would definitely come back.

Nice hotel in quiet location on the beach

In addition to the great location, slightly outside the very busy town, on a beach, with a great view, the dinner served in our room was fantastic. The facilities are dated but the service and cleanliness more than made up for it.

It was amazing stay thanks to the hospitality of the staff members. I definitely recommend it here - the room was larger than expected and view of the sea was lovely. Dinner and breakfast was very delicious! Thank you to the staff members who made it extra welcoming and special.

Very comfortable and great views

Our room was spacious and comfortable with a lovely view of the sea. Staff were very helpful and we enjoyed eating our evening meal in our room. There is a free shuttle service to the pier.
Public baths in the hotel were good.
We would happily return.

Best budget ryokan on Miyajima

The kaiseki dinner was so well done... Lots of drink options, vending machines with beer right outside the room. Karaoke, table tennis, arcade machines, bikes for rent... Get the delicious Japanese breakfast spread. Public bath was wonderful. And have a free coffee on the outdoor patio.

Everything was old (built in the 80s during the bubble, I think) but so much charm and value. If you want a ryokan experience that won't break the bank, stay here! They'll even pick you up at the port and hold your luggage while you explore the island.

The location sucks and the beach is dirty but you're just a 5 minute shuttle ride away from paradise. Ryokans are all about staying IN and enjoying life anyway.
