Wouldn't go back again

The room was facing the main road and it was noisy with the bikes on the street all night. I also couldn't understand why the pillows seem to be scented. I have a sensitive nose and that irritated my nose all the time. Plus the Aircon switched off on its own 3 times in the night. I thought it was off for a short while as the room reached the right temperature, but it didn't turn back on and I was starting to sweat, so I have to stand up and turn it back on. The doors of the rooms were also quite heavy so you hear other people closing their doors all the time.

A beautiful colonial style hotel in fun central

The Gunawarman was booked on the recommendation of a local colleague. He understood that as westerners we would want to eat and drink either in the hotel or nearby and it did not disappoint. The hotel itself is very nice with beautiful spaces, rooms, bar and dining area. The staff were friendly and helpful.
I would definitely stay again.

This is my second stay there. First time everything was ok. But this time room was not made up after first night. Only 1 towel was available at begining and after special request I got face towel. Food in hotel restaurant caused whole night diharea.

The Gunawarman still has a lot of character, and represents decent value for a luxury hotel in Jakarta. However the fact that they’ve now removed what few gym facilities there were, and made the downstairs lounge members only means that this will likely be my last trip staying here. It’s definitely suffered due to the pandemic.

Best boutique hotel in South Jakarta

Best boutique hotel in Jakarta South. Away from the hustle and bustle of CBD and it is nice to relax after a whole day of business meetings. Nearby there are good up market restaurants and cafes. I will return again 👍

A Must Try Hotel

Very convenient location with many restaurants and the District 8 mall within walking distance. Absolutely love the artisan design of this hotel and the great amenities, especially the coffee machine and the quality of the tooth brush. Housekeeping service was also on par when we asked for the turndown service.
The only downside is the lack of a swimming pool and also the gym which looked more like a storage room. Word of advice, if you want a more quiet stay, best to ask for 2nd or 3rd floor rooms as the 1st floor is too close to the lobby.

Unique building filled with nostalgia. It's a great if that suits your taste. Not so great if you're looking for ultra modern hotels typical of modern Asian metropolis.

Also, the hotel is surrounded by great restaurants of all kinds but the sidewalk infrastructure in Jakarta is horrendous. I was afraid of getting hit by speeding cars as we were forced into vehicle lanes at times to avoid obstacles in the pedestrian sidewalk. Certainly not an aspect directly controllable by the hotel but nevertheless I hope that improves in the near future.

Everything was lovely except that there were mosquitos in the rooms that kept me awake at night. Had to call front desk to bring mosquito sprays. would be great if housekeeping could spray the room before guest arrivals :)

The interiors of the hotel is so nice snd the staffs are very attentive and helpful. The hotel location is good too with lots of restaurants around the area. We enjoy our stay there. The only thing is the room that we choose was rather small. Will choose a different category for our next trip.

The hotel is super nice... very special and classic decor with very warm staff. Location is good, just 10 min walk to SCBD.

Just one minor comment is the bed sheet has some stains which caused my stay imperfect. Overall, I like this hotel and I’ll definitely come back.

The Gunawarman is a beautiful boutique hotel in South Jakarta CBD. I was very impressed with the decor in the rooms. Wifi speeds were decent but could use some improvement. The only time I had issues was when I was on video calls.

In terms of service, the staff was extremely friendly and made sure to address any concerns I had immediately. The food in the restaurant is also phenomenal. Would highly recommend trying.

Classy Hotel with European Feel

This hotel is perfect for business or leisure as it is located at the heart of Jakarta, surrounded by restaurants, cafe's & malls. Apart from the strategic location, I am very impressed with the details in this hotel, not only on design but small little things that makes a customer feel luxurious upon entering the room. Nice lounge and restaurant as well, but certainly food is not meeting my expectations.
Overall, I will certainly be returning to this hotel for my next trip to Indonesia instead of Kempinski or Mulia.

Charming boutique hotel

My favourite hotel in Jakarta. Beautifully designed, with exquisite rooms. Has far more character than typical large chain luxury hotels in Jakarta. Extremely friendly in attentive staff. Would thoroughly recommend if you want a more unique luxury hotel experience in Jakarta.

Amazing Boutique Hotel

The Gunawarman was a fantastic stay. The attention to detail was impeccable. So much character. I tried inspecting every single thing in the room and nothing was left unconsidered. Since it is also small, the service felt very personal. I wish I could have gotten the names of the staff but in the end, it doesn’t matter because every single person there did an amazing job and made us feel like we were home. They made all sorts of arrangements for us, like buying a SIM card, making reservations, and more with a smile on their faces. The immediate area was also great. It’s walkibg distance to some great restaurants and quite accessible to shopping areas. I’m already looking forward to our next stay at The Gunawarman. I’m not even considering any other place.

Wood is good at the Gunawarman

This is a great little boutique hotel with walking distance of Pacific place. The service is outstanding and they always make you feel welcome with many of the staff remembering you by name.

I stayed in a wood room which as the name suggests is themed around a wood panel concept. The wood panels are clearly reproduction but the effective and elegance is very pleasant. The room also comes with a freestanding bath in the room, great for a romantic stay I guess, plus en-suite shower room. Bed is queen but very comfortable and I fell asleep easily.

Breakfast and dinner was great as well with some interesting fusion dishes and well as local favourites. Breakfast isn’t buffet, which is actually quite pleasant and they have a modest set menu to choose from. Local breakfast dishes are very tasty but other than eggs don’t expect too many western options.

The only small niggle is the noise from the live band most nights, however the provided ear plugs help if you want to sleep before they finish. Road noise also dies down as the evening goes by but if you’re a light sleeper request a room at the rear of the propoerty.

Looking forward to trying a different room type next time at the Gunawarman.

The hotel room is nice and happened to see that each floor has different theme/color. Staffs are really attentive and can speak English. The breakfast was an a-la-carte service menu which comes with 1 main, 1 small yogurt and coffee. I think it will be better to have small bread, fruit. I think its not really a complete breakfast feeling.

The only down part is the internet does not work in my room both iphone + macbook. The reception tried to reset but it was still not working in both devices. This was a bit annoying as I have to connect internet from my 3G phone.

Good location, great breakfast.

However sleep was compromised as the hotel has loud music for at least 3 times a week. The sound proofing isn’t so good. If you don’t mind the noise, the Sofia restaurant at the hotel is apparently the latest hang out place for great music and great food.

Eclectic and stylish luxury hotel in Jakarta

The Gunawarman is an interesting hotel which harks back to yesteryear with a mix of styles and decadent luxury. The staff are incredibly attentive and go out of their way to make even the shortest of stays enjoyable.

I chose a classic white room which was very pleasant and decorated very simply, with a style that reminds you of the early 20th century. If you're used to the run of the mill business hotels then this is will be a welcome change of luxury. There are a few quirks with the room such as the wash basin being in the lobby, separate gravity fed toilet and an interesting walk in shower arrangement but honestly it all adds to the charm of the hotel.

I ate dinner and breakfast in the hotel and it was some of the nicest food I've eaten in a hotel as well, breakfast was freshly made to order with a reasonable selection of options.

One thing to be aware off is that they play live music every night until 111pm, which is great if you're enjoying a drink in the bar, however the noise does permeate to the guest rooms on the 2nd floor.

Overall I enjoyed The Gunawarman and will try a suite room on a higher floor on my next trip to Jakarta :)

This a small boutique hotel in a heritage building. The room was a bit small and cramped but had a cosy rustic vibe. The location is good, close to Pacific Place and Senayan but I wouldn’t recommend walking around the neighbourhood. The restaurant is very nice but breakfast was a limited selection. The gym is small but good.

- floor is not wood but plastic print, and so is everything in the room
- about 2 times more expensive than it should be, small room, nothing special
- breakfast was a bad joke given the price, no cheese, no ham, almost nothing
