This was perfect for our short stay in Kyoto. Room service was excellent, the rooms are a little small but it seems to be the case in Japan :) we both loved the thoughtfulness and care for all the amenities and little touches in the room and the staff were wonderful and really helpful. Having laundry in the hotel was useful although the dryer is not too strong so you may need to run multiple rounds. This place was also close to the city centre and Kyoto station despite being in a quieter neighborhood.

Very comfortable long stay with Anteroom. Hotel is near Kyoto station, difficult to lose your way as you can see Kyoto tower when you head out, go straight, 10+ mins walk.

I used the bullet train to visit friends in Hakata, Hiroshima, Okayama, Amanohashidate & Kanazawa. I also used the Kyoto bus and local trains to several museums and attended baking and baking classes. I enjoy the morning river walks to 4jo.

Cleaning service is perfect, more than usual especially when I forget Dnd. Love the bath salt self service, quiet neighborhood, little bakery nearby and energetic young staff

This hotel is only a 10 minute walk from Kyoto station. The room was very comfortable and larger than most single rooms in Japan. Breakfast was excellent and had a lot to choose from. Staff were friendly. There is also a laundry on the ground floor which was very convenient.

We loved our stay in Hotel Anteroom Kyoto for many reasons. It is very close to a station, which makes it convenient for travel, and there is a konbini and neighborhood grocery store very closeby as well. The hotel itself has a very cool, modern feel. The room was spacious and beautiful, and the amenities were also very generous. When we left the \"Do Not Disturb\" sign on, staff kindly left a bag of new towels, water, and other useful items at the door. I'd highly recommend staying here!

FYI the breakfast was not free however it was inexpensive and the food was good. I highly recommend the hotel. It's in a quiet neighborhood but within walking distance to plenty of eateries. It has a relaxed hipster vibe and a lovely bar. Plus the room was gorgeous!

The arrangement of this room was the most useful, as a westerner. There were two twin beds, but they were right next to each other if you're looking for a king, and there was a small space before a cushioned high-back bench and a table. This was all placed in front of a TV, if you wanted to watch it. You could watch from the bed or the bench. I found the bench to be as comfortable as any cmall chair in the others rooms we stayed in.

Not so convenient to city centre (30/40 mins on foot); very clean rooms; comfortable bed; nice bar. If not taking breakfast at the hotel, there’s not an awful lot in the vicinity (you’d need to travel/walk at least 10 minutes).
But it was spotless and the beds were large and extremely comfortable.

The rooms in this hotel were quite spacious & bright.
Magnets on the doors to request housekeeping or not - if not, towels and amenities provided by hanging on door.
This includes a complimentary bottle of water which was a nice addition.

Check in and out process was easy & I left my bag after check out to collect later.
Did have to pay a city tax on check in.

For travel, close to Kujo station for subway and Kyoto or Tofukuji for Keihan mainline trains.

Overall the location is quiet, Lawsons very close and a range of restaurants within walking distance so everything that need.

This boutique hotel is a converted dormitory. I stayed in a single room - with just enough space to do push-ups.The bathroom was odd as you had to take a step up to enter it. The tub is very deep and short, personally I would have preferred a shower stall.
The lounge on the first floor is a great option when you dont want to hang in your room. The breakfast is farm to table (excellent) with lots of fresh grilled vegetables which are not easy to come by.
The neighborhood is a mix of commercial and residential. Kyoto Station is 1km away. You could use the subway, however, it takes just as long to walk.
Besides a Lawson I did not notice any coffee shops or restaurants within the surrounding blocks - the closest coffee shop is 500 meters away.

Quiet and cozy stay

The hotel is really cool with an artsy vibe offering some retro style experiences as well. The room is small but just right for what a person needs. Its an older building so some sounds come through but the bed is so comfortable. Loved the deep tub and all the amenities available. Breakfast was really good as well, offering a daily sandwich and a selection of healthy offerings. It's in a pretty central area though nothing is close, everything is at least a 15 minute walk away or a short subway or bus ride. They do offer bike rentals for a coupme of hours for free though.

Better than I anticipated

Anteroom is a bit away from it all - which can be appealing after the hussle and bussle of being a tourist! But you do need to factor in more time to get anywhere.

The building is not new, and may feel a bit off-putting when you fist walk in, but the designers have done a great job creating very comfortable and cleverly designed rooms. The communal spaces are both funky and practical

I stayed in a single room and was happy with it- see photos. I had a window I could open. Unfortunately the glass in the window is frosted, so when the window is closed - you can't see out of it.

I recommend asking for a high/top floor - to look out over the rooftops to the mountains.

The buffet breakfast was pretty good - except for the pastries which I found bland, but the rest of the food was both flavourful and healthy.

Would I stay here again? Quite possibly - if the rate was reasonable and I was staying for a few days and wanted some \"chill time\" while walking to trains. Otherwise I would stay closer to the Nishiki market area.

We had 2 separate stays in this hotel-3 nights in room 168 and 2 nights in room 166. They both were garden view with wooden bath tubs.

Room 168 had a nice mini garden, but room 166’s garden literally only had a dead tree and nothing else which we were disappointed by. That was not a garden view but just a dead tree view.

Both rooms had heavy doors to the bathrooms and restrooms which were annoying because they wouldn’t stay open nor had door stoppers to keep open when needed. The knobs were extremely loud when opening/closing that they would wake up people you’re traveling with at night.

Wooden tubs were great. No bath salt allowed in the tubs to protect the condition of wood, but hinoki wood chips were provided.

Customers with regular tubs were able to make a compliment bath salt with scent of your choice by the front desk as much as they want which was nice!
All the electronics, bedding and utilities looked well taken care of, clean and great qualities.

The staff even remembered that we like to sleep on extra pillows, so when we came back to stay the second time, the extra pillows were already in our room which made us feel valued and cared.

They were able to keep our large suitcases at 24h-staffed front desk before and after our stay which was very helpful.

Staff customer service was excellent.

We hope that some changes are made to the bathroom/restroom doors and the garden view.

This was the best hotel I have ever stayed at. The interior looks like an art gallery. Beyond the cleanliness and facilities, you can choose your essential oil bath salts, take a relaxing bath, and enjoy the comfort of the room. In the morning, the breakfast selection is so rich and curated, it feels like that of a Michelin-starred restaurant. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I loved my time here!

Retro-designed hotel with tiny rooms

This hotel is located in a residential neighborhood, South of the Kyoto Station. It's a bit far from the \"action\" around Kyoto Station and many places to see which are North of the station

The property is retro-designed. However,
- The room is very, very small.
- They are still using a physical key. This is impractical for today's time.
- You cannot open the window, which has frosted glass.
- The bathroom is elevated, around 10 inches from the rest of the room. This is strange.

Hotel Anteroom was our first stop during our visit to Japan. We only stayed overnight.
The hotel is located about a 15 mins walk from Kyoto Station, which we managed well with our large suitcases.
We were greeted by a lovely staff member when we arrived. She was quick and efficient checking us in, and were allowed to our room a little early. There was a small Kyoto city accommodation tax to pay.
We stayed in the south wing garden room. It's a spacious room with the large twin beds and small seating area. It has a beautiful Aomori hiba tub, which was amazing to soak in after a long day walking, along with a shower. The room sized window looks out on a pebbled garden that lights up at night.
There is a small store selling small goods and t-shirts, a smoking room, vending machine and ice machine on the first floor. We didn't use the bar or restaurant while we stayed.
There is a Lawsons and market located across the street. Also, it is only about a 20 minutes to walk to the Fushimi Inari shrine.

I really liked the artsy vibe of the hotel. Even though I stayed in a “regular” room and not a concept room, the amenities that were included with the price were excellent-pj’s, water, tea, slippers, hairbrush, q-tips, and lovely smelling shampoo, conditioner, and bodywash. There is even a bath salt bar where you can create your own scent if you want to relax in the tub. It is a bit of a walk to Kyoto Station, but Jujo Station is closer and I used that bus stop quite often. The buffet breakfast is excellent and I loved being able to have grilled veggies & soup in the mornings. I didn’t include breakfast in my stay and ended up buying it 6 of the 9 days I was there. Lawson’s konbini is right across the street and I made many stops there for drinks and ice cream.

Artsy Hotel with some perks

A bit outside the city, though only 2 stops from the train station. Easily connecting with buses and subway to all our destinations. Hotel is artsy and has some perks, like the self mixed bath salts and a rapidly filling bathtub, the self flushing toilets, the deliciously roasted vegetable selection and the outstanding home-made granola. As others have mentioned, the the daily sandwich offerings and soups are meat heavy. The staff is friendly, usually someone speaks some English. The room size was adequate and the sofa allowed for a nice resting place for the larger suitcase.
The smell in the lobby was fresh lemony and started our stay well.

It’s a little bit far comparing to the description from Expedia, but there is a subway station in between hotel and Kyoto Station. Breakfast is marginal and of course , with that price. The hotel is very clean and comfortable, and the design of the hotel is pretty much like Marriott’s Moxy. There is a restaurant just across the street where mainly are locals, but the price is down to the earth (steak, $10 USD), highly recommend.

My Favourite Kyoto Hotel

My favourite Kyoto hotel. A one of a kind find - a lot of thought went into the design of this small hotel, which is intimate, friendly and efficient. Oh yeah, and very good value. And a gallery too. The people at reception are always informed and helpful. Breakfasts are bountiful and healthy and the coffee's good. And the library/bar off the breakfast room is a great place to drink and look at art books. My room was spacious and bright. The garden off my room was the one disappointment - it looked more like a vacant lot than a garden. A bit barren rather than minimalist. But everything else was first-rate.

Fun, budget hotel with excellent breakfasts!

Pros: A funky hotel, with great breakfasts, loved the industrial vibe and the make-your-own bath salts corner.
Cons: The hotel's in the south, non-touristy area of Kyoto with very little nearby except convenince store BUT just use the subway to get to places you want to visit.
Definitely would stay again as great value. Used to be a college dormitory.

Stayed in North Wing Twin Room, no terrace. Bathroom is tight and had barely any counter space, we ended up cleaning and putting stuff on the floor. Very Japanese shower wet room kind of set up, did not make use of the stool and pointed the shower head diagonally towards the tub, not ideal for westerners but doable if you keep an open mind and can squat a tad. Faucet had a nearly all or nothing kind of spray so we had to be careful with it.

Room was otherwise as described including large table, giant window ledge for arranging our stuff, and padded bench. One or two stray hairs remained from previous occupant which was not great. Shampoo, Conditioner, bodywash included as usual, decent quality stuff.

There is absolutely no in-room safe and the hotel room is locked via a manual key, not a digital key card. We ended up keeping more of our valuables on our person versus other hotels we've stayed at upon being informed during check in that there is no in-room safe.

Area is walkable from the local trains with some local restaurants and Konbini nearby. Made use of the wonderful hotel bar, though it was closed on one night of our stay as the bartender seemed to be under the weather the night before. Definitely recommend the bar though, definitely a good time with a skilled bartender and good prices.

Cons: Bathroom lacks counter space. NO IN ROOM SAFE. Did not love the use of a manual key for the hotel room. Could be cleaner.

We had a good stay, though below our expectations. The hotel lobby and the ground floor is like a converted warehouse with unfinished ceiling and pipes and ducks visible. The included breakfast was boring. We'd have to walk 15 minutes toward the Kyoto station to find any decent restaurant to dine. The neighborhood is safe and quiet, so we didn't mind the walking. A subway and bus station is 200 meters from the hotel, a transfer or two is usually required to go to places.

Great attention to detail with the edginess of featured local graffiti artist in the entrance and throughout the hotel. The products are great quality with an aromatherapy bath salt synergy table to mix it up. The breakfast was fresh and healthy options for all. Would most def return.

The location isn’t bad as it’s walkable to the Kyoto train station but there’s not much as far as restaurants around the hotel. The hotel has a bar but it isn’t open most of the time. It’s only open on Saturday and Sunday for only a few hours and the restaurant only offers breakfast. It’s a bit misleading as it’s advertised as having both a restaurant and bar but don’t let you know that you probably won’t have a chance to use it. I usually select hotel as it has these amenities. If that’s not important to you then this is a fine hotel with friendly and helpful staff.

Homey and cozy hotel which is good for a long stay. The price is reasonable and 5 min away from a subway station. I highly recommend it and will stay there again!

Loved Hotel Anteroom. Huge room - great property and facilities - breakfast, bar, laundry, bicycles etc. Great location. Excellent staff and service. My son and I agreed on our recent trip that Hotel Anteroom was overall the best place and we paid much more elsewhere!!

Wonderful well designed and managed hotel

Anteroom gave us a wonderful introduction to Kyoto. Very close to the main train station and a subway stop nearby. The room was very well designed, big, and comfortable. The staff was very helpful. We even got a surprise art and painting performance one night on return. A great hotel for anyone looking to immerse themselves in Kyoto

Hotel Anteroom has a cool, artsy vibe downstairs, and clean, spacious rooms upstairs (the hallways resemble the \"Backrooms\" a bit, too!) The breakfasts are fairly good, and the lounge area is comfortable. The staff aren't as \"enthusiastic\" as those at the other hotels I stayed at in Japan, but they certainly weren't rude in any way. All in all, I was satisfied with my stay.
