This hotel is practically new and very clean. However it is very small and tiny.

The closet is like a shoe box. And there is no actual drawer or place to put your clothes aside the suitcases you bring them in. I wish I knew was I was signing up for before booking it.

The breakfast is also terrible. No varieties. I could have gone 711 which have better selections than adding breakfast to the hotel.

I stayed in another hotel in Japan; Tokyo to be precise before going to Kyoto.

The room was so huge, better selections of breakfast, buffet also like this.

My honest opinion is that my experience here was so underwhelming.

Nice boutique hotel with contemporary design conveniently located within a few minutes walking distance from Kyoto station. The breakfast buffet had a nice spread and everything was fresh. We enjoyed the drink station which offered wide variety of coffee and soft drinks although I wish they had coca cola and/or offered a cocktail hour.

Room was amazing. Unfortunately we could only get the double twin beds so it ate into our space but the location was amazing, it has very good air conditioning. The bathroom was amazing and the highlight of the room!!! Hotel is 3-4 mins from the station and only 1 exit away from the nishiki market… suuuuper convenient!!! My Tokyo hotel was not that great but if I ever come back I’m staying here again for sure!!!

This property was recommended by a local friend as this was my 2nd Kyoto visit within 2yrs. Incredibly convenient location & a few mins walk to Kyoto Station. Many convenience store & small restaurants in the immediate area as we tried a small local izakaya pub late at night after a late arrival around 9pm. It is an incredible value as we researched & reserved the room from Hawaii, & paid at the property.
Only 1 concerns & recommendations for the hotel management team:
Install a Master DIMMER switch on the wall by the room entrance door!
If one PULLS OUT the room key which is necessary to activate all the lights in the room, everything will go 100% dark. So if you are a senior citizen, a “night light” or a master dimmer will allow you reduce the overall level of brightness in the room. Again it is ALL on & remove the room key from the lighting master key slot, everything will go totally DARK…This recommendation should be researched. Perhaps maybe even include a portable plug-in “night light” in the respective rooms as a thoughtful option for SENIORS who wake up in the middle of the night to use the toilet WITHOUT blazing ALL the light in every area of the room.
I’m convinced that this will incur a minor cost, but will pay off dividends in spades, as a very small addition to making this property & the respective rooms a bit more user friendly & accommodating to senior travelers..

My Rihga Gran Kyoto stay was wonderful. I loved my room & the property in general. There were lots of elegant features & breakfast was scrumptious. The staff was challenging. The front desk staff struggled to communicate, not because of the language (Google translate eliminates that problem) but because of their frame of reference. Simple things like help booking a dinner at a full place was so hard for them ton imagine. can you call & see if they have room for 1 person at the bar was inconceivable to them. They were astounded when I was repeatedly able to get in to places the website said were full. Same thing with requests to update my key when I added dates to my stay. No you must come down on the check out day & get a new key for the additional 3 rooms. No was their favorite word. So different from the staff at my Tokyo & Osaka hotels.

I want to add that it takes them forever to do anything & always requires 3 people. I had some medication sent to me through DHL. It was very hard to get them to tell me when it arrived.

They really need at least 1 English speaker.

A very solid tourist class 4 star hotel. Rooms were immaculately clean. Some rooms are a bit on the small side but not bad for Japan. The location is perfect just a couple blocks from the main train station. The breakfast was ok. Free soft drinks and coffee at all times is a nice touch. The bathrooms are huge. Very solid if you don’t plan on spending too much time inside the room. All spaces in the hotel were immaculately clean.

Location was good, walking distance to Kyoto Station. Got the superior twin room, which was a decent size compared to other hotel rooms. However, there was no view from our window. Room amenities and daily housekeeping was great. They offered free drinks in the lounge. Breakfast was okay for the price, not a lot of choices for a buffet. Had better breakfast elsewhere. Front desk staff was okay.

Regular Double Bed Guest room was too small for 2 travelers. No room for a second suitcase. The table and chairs are sized for toddlers, not adults. Highly recommend booking a suite if you’re not traveling solo. The rooms were very clean though.

The hotel is nice and near the train station. They offer complimentary soft drinks and coffee starting at 10:30. You are also given 3-1000 yen vouchers to use toward food and drinks within the hotel. There are pay washer/dryers for guests' use and an onsen. The rooms are nice with a daily complimentary bottled water per person. However, the room lacked suffient outlets to charge everyone's device. Also, nothing to hang towels on or closet space for clothes. We had to live out of our suitcases with insuffient space to store the suitcases so one was open in front of the door.

The best hotel to stay in Kyoto. The hotel’s conveniently located near the trains, but is also in the quieter side of Kyoto which I prioritise on my holidays.
The staff were incredibly helpful and kind. The hotel itself had great breakfast an ambience to the hotel. 5/5 stars!!

Loved this hotel; rooms were the largest of all the hotels we stayed while in Japan. Breakfast offered a variety that didn’t change much from day to day but it was great. About a 5 minute walk from Kyoto station where connecting trains and buses are easily available. Of note, most day tours meet up about 3 minutes walk from the hotel.
The only thing to note; some of the main areas of Kyoto a tourist may want to see are about a 40-50 minute walk from the hotel.
Highly recommend this hotel, absolutely loved it, thank you to the wonderful staff!!!

Our biggest complaint was the air quality in the rooms. We became heavily congested but found that went away after a few hours out of the room. We’d just come from a hotel in Tokyo and did not have this issue and we each were taking allergy meds each day. While there was not an odor it seemed as though they knew of the issue as an air purifier was in the room at check in. This didn’t help. We ended up finding we could open the window about 4 inches to get an air flow and disabled their a/c system. This did make it a bit better. Additionally, there were small gnats or flies in the room at check in and throughout the stay. I heard others complaining in an elevator so we knew it was not just us having a suboptimal experience. One other note:
There was only one laundry machine on our floor with a 2 hour cycle for one load, so it was always in use.

Wonderful hotel! Beds are so comfy. Although room is a little small, it’s a little big already for Japan standards. We had the standard double room, and the beds are twin XL beds, a bit tight for 2 ppl to sleep in, but they did make the sofa bed wonderfully for my daughter so we were all comfy. Love how they have free drinks, and free locker service. It’s close to the station like 2 blocks which is not too bad. Breakfast was good. Amenities were good. Staff is excellent! I can definitely recommend!

We loved this hotel: great location only 2 blocks up from Kyoto Station Hachijo East exit, big room for Japan, very clean, staff very nice and helpful and some spoke English, room and hotel very clean, AC worked well and could be controlled from the room, free drink station was great, having a public hot bath is great, and having washer/dryer is great.

The were only a few areas that were lacking: 1) There’s only one usb port in each superior twin rooms that I booked. That meant only one person could charge their cell phone/device at a time. Good thing we brought extra adapters so that allowed more than one person to charge their phone or other devices at the same time.
2) There is only one public hot bath (on the women’s side) so it was very crowded much of the time, in the actual hot bath itself, as well as in the changing area, shower area, vanity area, and entrance/exit area. That said, we were very happy that they had a public hot bath at all, so the inconvienence was relatively minor.
3) The washer/dryer worked well for us because we followed instructions carefully, especially Step 0 to clean/rinse out the unit before starting your wash. The problem was there wasn’t enough units for the size of the hotel/number of guests, and because its a combination unit, the duration is 2 hours automatic minimum time required per load. Unless you wash clothes early in morning or very late night (after midnight or before 6:30am), its hard to find an available unit.

Makes for a nice spa like evening after walking 30k steps. 5 minutes away from kyoto station and lots to see and do in the surrounding area. They also have a hotel onsen for patrons. This was such a pleasant surprise. So close to the train station and it felt like being at a resort. We are invited to enjoy the public areas with our special Japanese wear that is given to the guests in our rooms. The staff is amazing, the housekeeping workers are like machines, fully focused, and they work very fast and efficient, with such deep cleaning. They are amazing. The breakfast was nice but the workers there was also so amazing. The only bad thing was there was not enough washers and dryers. And it takes 2 hours to wash a load and the clothes are still very wet after 2 hours. But I will definitely be back at this hotel only when visiting Kyoto. 5 stars definitely. And I am an honest star giver.

Absolutely beautiful place. 2 minute walk to trains. Not very close to restaurants but easy to catch an uber or go for a walk. You can hire a car right across the road.
Coming from Australia, I found Kyoto extremely safe and so clean. Lots to see around the area.
The rooms were very clean, staff were lovely.
I would stay there again.

The hotel was great. Rooms were clean and functional. Small, but that’s normal for Japan. Staff was excellent and helpful. Location was great. Close to the train station and easy to get around and access to food and shopping. The only gripe I had was even though the breakfast buffet states they close at 10am, they actually stop serving and taking away food at 9:30. This was not told to me when we paid for the buffet at 9:15. If we had known we only had 15 min to get food and eat, we would have opted for an alternative breakfast.

It was great overall.
Staff was nice as we arrive before check in time and was able to store our luggage. The front desk area had free beverages which was neat.
The room was nice and clean, I like that the shower and bathtub were separated. The bed was comfy and I liked the controls for the lights. It was pretty romantic too. They provide free water whenever they clean the room and I like how you can choose if you want a light cleaning or full cleaning.
There is also laundry station and public bathhouse which you can see on the tv in your room if they are occupied or not.

We had a great stay here at the Rhiga Gran Hotel! The rooms were a nice size and clean! The staff is amazing too! We accidentally left some money in the safe and they messaged us to check to see if we were missing anything and we immediately forgot about the safe. I would recommend this hotel any day!

What a hidden Gem close to Kyoto Station. This Hotel had a friendly and helpful front desk staff member named Yoon. He explained all the amenities in English. Breakfast option is a must have option, otherwise you will be hungry and nothing is open other than 7-11.

The room was spacious for 3 people. It was nice of them to open up another bed for our third person. They also added another amenities to provide our 3rd party. The bathroom and room were very clean and comfortable. Staff people were very helpful and spoke perfect English.
Very close to the train station and there were a family Mart and a convenience store with bakeries which was great.
Highly recommend staying here if you have 3 people, it was very comfortable.
