A Magical and Heartwarming Stay at Relais Casali della Cisterna

We originally planned to stay for just one night, and ended up staying for two, simply because we couldn’t leave!
Relais Casali della Cisterna is a truly special place, elegant, peaceful, and full of warmth.

From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with genuine kindness. The hosts, Simona and Alberto, went above and beyond to make our stay perfect, offering great local tips, and always making us feel at home.

Our room was beautifully designed, spacious, and spotless, with breathtaking views of Lake Maggiore. Waking up to the view of the lake from our balcony was unforgettable. The gardens surrounding the villa are lush and peaceful, perfect for relaxing walks or a quiet coffee in the morning sun.

Breakfast was excellent, fresh pastries, fruit, local cheeses, and eggs made to order. It’s one of those places where every detail feels cared for.

The location is also great, just a few minutes’ drive from Stresa and Belgirate, close enough to explore but quiet enough to feel completely away from it all.

We’ve stayed in many places across Europe, but this one really stands out for its charm, authenticity, and the warmth of its hosts. We left with a full heart and wonderful memories.
Highly recommended, and we’ll definitely be back!

This was a beautiful property to stay in that overlooks Lake Maggiore. Simone and her husband are so kind and accommodating. They have an on site restaurant and we had an amazing dinner! Our room was upgraded to a larger room and it had a magnificent view and was very spacious. This was one of our best stays on our trip to Italy. Highly recommend!

Wow! Outstanding!
Simona and Alberto were amazing. This property is simply beautiful in every way. Flowers, trees, shrubbery and an amazing view of the lake right out our window and from our open air balcony. We also had a charming outdoor space for dining and/or having a drink overlooking the lake amongst the beautiful landscape. Our suite was spacious and up to date. Amenities were perfect. We rented a car and had no troubles parking at this hotel. Streets are narrow everywhere in this region, so pick a small car! Don’t rely on Apple Maps for specific directions, follow those given to you by Alberto and Simona via email. It was helpful. This location was very close to Stresa, maybe 5 minutes . We spent quite of bit of time in Stresa.

Wanted to stay longer!

Due to flight delays and cancellations, we were delayed until a 1:30 AM arrival. Simone took AMAZING care of us and accommodated two very tired travelers.

The room was amazing, the restaurant was as well. We'll be back.

From start to finish, Simone and Alberto were so welcoming and charming—the perfect hosts.
Our room was lovely, and the food was just fabulous. As a coeliac, travelling can be tricky, but the team really looked after me, bringing me a separate platter of bread and toast (which was prepared separately). The choice of wine was delightful!
I hope we will return as Relais Casali Della Cisterna is a very special place, and we’re so glad we were able to experience it.

Simona and Alberto made our stay so tremendously special. The hospitality was impeccable. In all of my trips to Europe, this stay was the best. From the views to the “bed and breakfast” feel opposed to the hustle and bustle that you get from hotels, it was serene, peaceful and very cozy. We had access to the hot tub and pool overlooking the beautiful lake. A gym is made available as well. Breakfast/dinner very delicious. Simona was always available to assist us with regards to transportation. We will most certainly return. If anyone is considering stresa, skip it and come to Belgirate for a more enjoyable experience.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at this incredible hotel during our trip to Italy, and it was truly a memorable experience from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that made us feel right at home.

The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the breathtaking view of the lake from our room. Waking up to such a picturesque sight each morning was nothing short of magical, and it truly enhanced our overall experience.

Not only was the accommodation itself top-notch, but the food was also exceptional. Every meal, from the delicious breakfast spread to the homemade lasagne, was a culinary delight. It was evident that a lot of care and attention went into preparing each dish, and it definitely added to the overall enjoyment of our trip.

Overall, our stay at this hotel was nothing short of perfection. The combination of impeccable service, stunning views, and mouthwatering food made it an experience that we will never forget. Thank you to the staff for making our trip to Italy truly special.

Where do I start! Everything about this place was amazing!!! The owners were just the sweetest and paid attention to every detail. They even drove us into town to restaurants and the bus station.

Wow, what a find!! The owners make you feel so welcomed. It is truly a relaxing and beautiful place. Home cooked food with immaculate rooms really make this a worthwhile stop. One suggestion, very helpful to have a car if you are there for more than a couple of days.

The property is very pleasant, and has an interesting history. The owners/managers were lovely and did everything possible to make my visit pleasurable. The grounds are beautiful with nice gardens. The breakfast on the terrace was fantastic as well. My only (small) complaint is that the train is quite close by.

Wonderful stay!

Nicest ambience ever! Enjoyed both cocktails and breakfasts on the patio overlooking beautiful Lake Maggiore amidst lovely grounds. We stayed 3 nights, relaxing and loving our time there.

Simona and Alberto were warm, welcoming, and somehow everywhere if needed. Felt more like staying at a friend's home, but with an idyllic setting.

P.S. Don't miss visiting Isola Bella -- just a short ferry ride away.

Spacious beautiful rooms and breathtaking views

Small elegant hotel, beautifully restored historic property, gracious friendly service, a spacious suite for a reasonable price (we had the Dinghy superior suite w/large patio/balcony) and stunning views of Lago Maggiore—we could not have asked for more. We enjoyed a breakfast and light supper served on the garden patio, and especially appreciated the proprietor’s help arranging our mandatory pre-flight COVID test. The hotel is on a quiet stretch of shoreline between Arona and Stresa which we preferred, but you do need a car to drive to restaurants and beaches with facilities. A walk into the small town of Belgirate is possible but it would be a long climb back up the hill.

Great hotel near Stresa

Very nice hotel settled in a large garden. Quiet, clean, great lake views. Breakfast was excellent too. And the staff very welcoming. If you do not mind having to take a short drive to Stresa or restaurants, this is definitely the place to stay at.

This is a great location to visit Lake Maggiore, since we had a car. It is right on the water and exquisitely maintained. However there is a busy road on one side and the train on the other. Despite this we loved it. The main, more touristy town of Stressa is only five miles up the road, and is where the ferry stops to take you to the islands.

Beautiful converted villa with excellent views of Lago Maggiore. Room very spacious. Parking a plus if traveling with car. Short distance to Stresa, about 6 minute drive, with access to ferry to other towns along the lake. Breakfast more diverse than most other establishments I’ve stayed at in Italy. Only minus are trains passing by about every 20 minutes or so and towels in bathroom could be softer. Staff were friendly and helpful with guidance to area. Would highly recommend!

We loved our two night stay. The room and hotel were very clean and comfortable. This is a family run hotel so a lot of care and consideration has gone into making sure your stay is enjoyable. We enjoyed having breakfast there each morning and both evenings we enjoyed drinks down in the bar. If we came back to the area we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again!

What a find. I have been to Stresa for years and usually stayed at the Grand Hotels on business. Relais Casali was a real gem. Simona and her staff were outstanding. The quiet retreat, exceptional views of Lago Maggiore, and the overall ambiance of this facility make it a real find.

We completely enjoyed our stay at the Casali. The place is amazing...very lovely, beautiful gardens, great atmosphere. We did not have a car and we were really needing one. The place is remote and difficult to access without a car.

Beautiful Property and Suite. Couple that manages the Hotel were wonderful: very friendly and very helpful. Hotel has a waterfall and beautiful plantings. Our room also had a great lake view. Breakfast was the best buffet that we had on our trip with many selections and custom items, at a reasonable price.

One drawback is that the train passes next to the property quite frequently. Luckily they are short and fast.

Overall, I highly recommend this property.

Overnight in a suite with lake view. Positives were Lakefront, beautiful peaceful surroundings. Nicely decorated well designed large room. Negatives were very uncomfortable bed, bedding and pillows. Towels were worn out. Inadequate waterproofing in bathroom. Even the toilet paper was damp.Room was damp and musty smell from bedlinen and pillows. For a so called suite and the price one does not expect these malfunctionings. Breakfast was overpriced for what was on offer. Only one egg allowed per person. Owners tried very hard to be friendly but this is not their game.
