It doesnt get any better than this hotel. Absolutely beautiful. The staff was superb. Breakfast was fabulous. The room was magnificent. The view of lake Maggiorrre is so beautiful and peaceful. The landscaping is wonderfully designed and kept to perfection.

Staff members are very friendly. It was a lot of Miscommunication on descriptions about the room when I went on their website the same room we booked said it has four people and then they were telling me an Expedia it was only for three the same so the charge for an extra guest but when I arrive, they told me there was for four. I believe there is no communication between Expedia and the hotel.

Charming hotel with view of Isola Bella

Beautiful hotel with exceptional view of the Isola Bella and neighboring Lago Maggiore islands. Excellent restaurant service and food. Wonderful breakfast. Would have given an overall 5-star review with one issue - I was checked in to my room and enjoying a drink on the veranda to recuperate after a long drive to Stresa, when ten minutes into my stay, the porter arrived and told me I had to move to a different room. No explanation and no exception. I was not happy and this did color my whole visit. The view in the room I was moved to was not of equal quality to the room I was first allocated. Not a good impression.

The property and the hotel were absolutely lovely. The staff was wonderful and the rooms comfortable and clean. The pool and the spa were also great. One drawback is that I did not like the fact that it was hard to walk from the hotel into the town. There was no sidewalk and so I felt a bit hemmed in. The hotel did a wonderful job, however, providing transportation to the Borromean Islands and there was a shuttle into the town of Stresa.

I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. The staff actually came out to our car to greet us and took our luggage directly to the room. We were welcomed very warmly. The staff all spoke perfect English, which I certainly don't expect when I travel abroad but it makes the stay much easier. We had a wonderful dinner and their restaurant that night and the second night we ate at a restaurant day recommended it was also excellent. We didn't lift a finger. The staff arranged for us to take a boat out on the lake, answered all of our questions, they really went above and beyond. We're going back next year and staying in the same hotel. On a scale of 1 to 10 I give them an 11!

Overall, we had a great stay. The hotel is showing its age and needs a good renovation soon. However, it didnt spoil our experience. The views from the hotel and the room make up for any drawbacks. It's living off of its old glory and location. The view is spectacular but other than that, it doesn't have much to offer.

The property is outdated and lacks 5 star luxury throughout. The staffs were not trained properly (most seemed very young, under trained seasonal employees with lack of hospitality experience.) Concierge was clueless and the general manager was rude and inconsistent. The pool is too cold to swim (in late August) so our young children could not enjoy the area at all. Rooms are tiny and extremely outdated and dark. There is nowhere to walk around the property (hotel offers very limited shuttle service to and from Stresa) and it's really dangerous to cross the street to the lake side (corner traffic but no mirrors or crosswalk to ensure safety).

Overall, it was a very disappointing experience and surprising this is a part of LHW.

I reserved the Junior Suite with a Lake view. The location and the view was amazing however the room does not merit the price of Euro 940. There is no separate Toilet. The bathroom was tiny. The air conditioning is very old so it was very noisy - starting and stopping with green flourescent light that could not be switched off so we slept badly. The decor is very tacky as walls are painted in cheap murals. The swimming pool is a funny shape with cheap loungers and only one person working at the pool. Next time, i prefer to go to Des iles Borromees which is at least a Grande Hotel with beautiful architecture. As i said, view of Isola del piscatore and views were wonderful. But, this is not the best hotel in Lake Maggiore

Disappointing visit to what potentially could be a 5* hotel experience. Tired decor in certain areas. No staff present on arrival to unload bags. Be careful with the room booked as it is not what you are given. We booked a suite with a living area which clearly stated a double and 2 single beds for the kids yet were met with a room with just two single beds out together. When contested, staff were not accommodating and the website which shows the ‘Belvedere suite’ is actually a collection of two suites. Very deceptive. Wine tasting was good and restaurant staff helpful but receptionists not accommodating and quite abrupt and inflexible. Shuttle service to Stresa town was good bonus.

We arrived 25 minutes after check in opened. Staff told us they don’t have our room available even though we had already paid for it. They upgraded us to a room in the old/original section of the hotel. The room was not nice, extremely old with stained carpets and a sliding door that didn’t shut properly. The paint on the front door had not even been finished! We just wanted what we had paid for but the hotel staff are extremely rude and not at all accommodating. Hotels.com were even worse and as Gold Members we thought they would help us but they said the hotel did everything they could. We provided over a dozen photographs and they ignored all our evidence and decided in favour of the hotel.

We have stayed before and this time on our honeymoon. Staff are brilliant everyone looks after you. You can’t beat the service at this hotel
You can walk to town but they have a good shuttle service. They even took us to station trice. Breakfast has such enormous choice and again staff always attentive. You can have it in the terrace with the lovely views of lake islands mountains Bliss.
Cocktails in the lounge with muse bouche before dinner another experience with pianist and lavish surroundings
Our room was not as nice as last visit but that was our fault. Should have rung hotel to upgrade
But we still had a balcony with some views of lake. Lovely to wake up to. Whirlpool bath. Comfy bed. And english channels if you need to watch tv
Only thing missing tea making facilities
Even though the hotel had a 60th birthday. A wedding. And then a fine art group of about 50 people we were still made to feel special. They ordered us a water taxi to go to an island for lunch
We shall definitely be back
You might think it’s a bit expensive but worth every euro

All I can say is if you visit Lake Maggiore stay here. Everything was perfect from check in to check out and everything in between. The staff, who we came across including the manager and owner, were wonderful. All of them were very accommodating from day 1. Marco was an asset to the property as he was always with guests pampering them while training younger staff how to look after guests.. We occupied 2 suites lake view. The view was great though the space of 35sqm sounds good but utilizing space was limited due to split level type.

We had deluxe balcony lake view room . It is very small and small bathroom with half shower in tub . There was a second floor sitting area but I prefer sitting area and room to move in main room . The hotel is lovely decorated . Check in the guy parking car couldn’t get car turned off we had to go to garage to push a button . The view is wonderful.
It’s a thirty min walk from town but 5hey have shuttle every couple of hours however they stop at 6 pm
We had some problem trying to find a taxi back around 8 pm
Breakfast was good but a little busy line up for eggs and took awhile to get service for. Coffee.
Bed was comfortable and everything. Was clean .
There were some annoying beetles,bugs on the deck which made it not so relaxing to sit and enjoy the view

Probably one of the best stays I have had ever

The hotel staff received us in a magnificent way. They were extremely polite and made us feel at home. The hotel itself could be considered an experience of its own, full of amazing Murano chandeliers and great art collection. Food is amazing!!! There I had the best dessert in my honeymoon... the tiramissu. The hotel really made sure we had a great stay. Besides, the lake view and the the closeness to the ferry station to gonto the islands could not be better. I would love to go back!

A charming hotel with really lovely staff. Beautiful location although the walk into Stresa is not recommend due to the busy road and lack of pavements. However s shuttle service is offered throughout the day. The only think I feel let’s it down a little is the servicing of the room, which I felt as not done to a very high standard and things like shower gels and shampoos were not always replaced. But overall a wonderful stay.

This would be the best hotel we have ever stayed in. The decor, appointments, staff, service and location are five star. Breakfast was delicious and the one meal we had in the restaurant was very good though I was shocked at paying €16 for two small bottles of water when it is free in our room. We stayed in a villa at the side of the hotel with magnificent views over Lake Maggiore and the three islands. There is a shuttle bus to Stresa and return. You definitely can’t walk. We had free mini bar with soft drinks, beer and water. The road out front can be a little noisy but the windows and doors are well insulated. Pool is fabulous, as well as the spa and hamman - though we didn’t use it. Definitely upgrade to a Lake view, it would be a shame to miss out on such a magnificent view.

Wonderful hotel with all you could ever want

From the moment we arrived we loved the experience, stunning position with views to die for, amazing attentive staff, clean and comfortable rooms, excellent facilities and not to mention the food, the 2 restaurants served amazing food and breakfast had a large choice of fresh fruit, pastries and a chief cooking eggs , omelettes to your liking. The hotel arranged a private boat for us to explore 3 of the islands on the lake which was amazing, and took up most of the day, we chose to eat on the islands and there's chance to shop and visit historic houses and gardens on the islands too.
We will be back to visit this stunning hotel and staff and hopefully for a longer duration

A hotel trying to be 5 star

We are amazed this hotel has earned a 5 star status on the basis of the bedroom and bathroom sizes - incredibly disappointing.
We complained twice about the size of our room and bathroom - my husband is 6ft 6\" - there was a half size bath and you could barely enter the bathroom it was so small.
There were 'Henchmen/bodyguards' guarding our corridor each night! I'm not sure what type of clientele are encouraged to stay at the Aminta but if someone need bodyguards, they are clearly in fear of their life!! This doesn't exactly bode well for a completely relaxing experience.
Although an impressive view from the front terrace, the noise of the main road running beneath the hotel is unbearable, coupled with the freight train noise to the rear of the hotel, again not a relaxing experience.
After complaining for a second time, the front of house staff arranged an alternative room behind the hotel in a separate building. This room was much bigger and had a large terrace. If we had not been moved to this room we would have left the hotel and found alternative accommodation. The fact that we were away from the guests who needed bodyguards made us feel a little more secure!
On a positive note, the staff were very professional, the breakfast was very good but unfortunately the coffee was lukewarm every morning!
If the rooms had been half the price we would still be disappointed!

Plazzo Aminta Hotel - recommended

Although on arrival staff had failed to arrange the requested (booked) family room, they made every effort to accommodate us appropriately although only after we had indicated our intention to move to a hotel with more comfortably sized rooms. Thereafter, the service, food, professionalism and all provisions by Plazzo Aminta were exemplary. Unfortunately the spa was a disappointment with malfunctioning jacuzzi and steam room. This did not spoil our holiday and we would like to make special mention of the staff friendliness and attentiveness in the restaurants and reception. The complimentary car was most welcome. This is a very good, pleasantly sized hotel which we recommend and would love to stay in again. Thank you to all.

Pristine view from every room in the hotel, walk out door to beach to swim or catch the boat to Borreamo island, or have a cocktail and play bocci ball or just sit and enjoy the beautiful flower gardens. 15 min walk into quaint town of Stresa or be more adventurous and hike in mountains. Teen age kids enjoyed Mottorone, alpland, and swimming in lake. Some options for water sports. Beauty of the lake is the setting in the mountains, sail boats, etc. not overrun with jet skis and party boats. Aminta staff all around was welcoming and helpful, breakfast was healthy and delicious with many options, hotel has beautiful Venetian glass chandeliers and furniture. We had two rooms which were very comfortable, clean, Etro amenities were exceptional and balconies with stunning partial lake views. Minimal counter space to layout your things but you really don't need much here. My family loved Aminta and Stresa, just wish we planned for a few more days. Spa looked beautiful but we did not have enough time to visit but a morning at the spa would have been perfect. Definitely recommend for a couple, family with kids of all ages if you are looking for some spectacular views, enjoy outdoor mountain and water sports, and some time to sit back, have a cocktail, and just relax and enjoy some perfect weather.

Bedroom and bathroom tiny

Hotel was beautiful but our bedroom and bathroom were very small.
There's was barely any room to stand in front of sink without falling in the toilet.
Hotel was located about half hour walk from Stresa. Hotel did lay on shuttle 5 or maybe 6 times in the day but none in the evening and charged you 12€ at other times (if you get a private taxi it only costs 10€) which I thought was a rip off.
Also a cup of tea cost 7€ !

Royal experience

Intriguing structure, built for the privileged in 1800 or so, it seemingly has every 5 feet decorated with a close eye to detail, part hotel, part museum. Room was small but elegant. Hotel staff is helpful. The view towards the islands and mountains will stun. The banks of Lago Maggiore, especially in front of the hotel, will impress. Few places can match the view...on Earth. Thumbs up.

Timeless Elegance and Style

This was my ninth visit to the Villa Aminta so \"I am a fan\".

The hotel is exquisitely presented the view of Lake Maggiore from both the sea view rooms and the restaurant is utterly charming and romantic.

The rooms are beautifully appointed with luxury toiletries and storage aplenty for 23K case passengers.

The, staff who are immaculately turned out, provide excellent and timely service.

The breakfast offering is fresh and inventive and caters for all European tastes.

The pool area is elegant and the Spa cleverly hidden below ground without compromising the architecturally pleasing overall facade.

There is a regular shuttle service into Stresa and the limousine pick up by telephone at a time of your convenience for the evening. I have a hire car for much of my stay.

Stresa is well situated for arriving from Southern Italy or Switzerland by train or car and the railway station is less than ten minutes from the hotel.

The hotel has its own private lake side garden and birthing for excursions on the Lake.

Should you wish to you can eat in a restaurant (there are two) in the evening and on many evenings there is musical entertainment.

Beauty meets luxury and comfort

What an exceptional place! Facing directly the Borromee Islands with views of the mountains! Only 2.4 km from the centre of Stresa. During the day there is a regular shuttle and a night for an acceptable charge one can get a taxi.
We had a suite. The bathroom was supplied with Acqua di Parma products and excellent linen. The cleanliness and order all through the hotel were exemplary as they were daily for our room.
The staff and the service were of style and at levels of the best European traditions. And this applies from the front door through the remarkable front desk and to the cleaning staff. (Not to mention the daily presence and personal approach to guests of the proprietor, which was felt and appreciated.)
The breakfast is nice but somewhat limited in choices although it is more than adequate. There is something small new thing daily. The choice of cheeses definitely could be better and more varied.
The two restaurants are very distinguished but we used the Italian only once. Considering the level of the restaurants we did not think that the prices were high. We did not use the Spa. Through the hotel we hired a boat for a day to visit the three Islands. We believe this to be the best option to visit the islands at one's leisure.
We would strongly recommend it and would be going back as soon as we can.

Nice Hotel

It's a nice Hotel with a very nice Lobby but the Rooms is Very old even the bathroom , you cannot adjust the shower, and the photos of the rooms looks very nice and new but its not , You need a car to go to old town or next restaurant

Luxury with a beautiful view

We enjoyed every moment. The hotel has elegant luxury and excellent charming service. We ate at both restaurants which are good but expensive. I would recommend asking for a front room with full lake view. Our room was slightly on the corner and although very comfortable, only had a side view. I would go back there again without a doubt

Decent Hotel, Bad Location.

The stay was okay, but the hotel was too pricey for what we got. Rooms were very small and outdated. Next time I will stay at a cheaper hotel directly downtown.

Outstanding location, ambiance and service

Outstanding! Staff, hotel, cuisine in the restaurant, spa, location...view breathtaking and just outside of Stresa so a true retreat, but with the convenience of a regular hotel car to go the brief 5 minute drive into town and back. My only critique would be that there is a charge for a newspaper in the morning...unusual for a 5 star property. Concierge and front desk were responsive and helpful in all ways. As a single person I never felt out of place or improperly regarded or treated. It was an idyllic weekend, unexpected and unplanned...I would definitely return.

Excellent base to explore Maggiore

Excellent luxurious hotel, worth the splurge. Good base for exploring Lake Maggiore - the island palaces & gardens are a top sight. Free hourly car service into Stresa 2 km.

Elaborate and stunning decoration

An amazing property with superb decoration and location.
However we found our side facing room to the lake too small for us and our luggage (we are traveling for 7 weeks) - chair had to be removed and no drawers and space was cramped, as was bathroom. Perhaps a little less elaborate furnishing might have provided an opportunity to unpack further items.
A lovely hotel, just too small for our needs.

LOVED IT!

Simply put, YOU HAVE TO STAY HERE AND GET SPA ACCESS!!! The GROTTA (spa and Turkish bath, cloud bed, etc) and the Lake VIEW are the highlights!! But the hotel, staff, service was immaculate and perfect! We stayed at 5 hotels during our Euro-Tour (Italy and Paris, all were 5 or 4 stars), and this was our ABSOLUTE FAVORITE!!!

Pure unadulterated luxury

This was our second stay at Villa Aminta, the first 5 years ago on honeymoon. It was as beautiful as we remembered. It is a small hotel, stylish and beautifully presented. Our lake view was absolutely magnificent, the best location on the lake by far, we never got tired of looking at the views. The rooms are not large but classy and comfortable. The products in the bathroom are luxurious. We did not eat in the hotel other than breakfast but this was varied, plentiful and well presented. We found the staff to be welcoming and friendly. Altogether an absolutely wonderful and special hotel. It is a 10 minute walk into the town which we enjoyed but for most of the way there is no path so you have to walk carefully but we enjoyed this walk each night to visit the local bars and restaurants. The hotel does have a courtesy bus but this does not run at night.

Fabulous Italian Hotel on Lake Maggiore

The Villa Aminta Hotel has a wonderful location on Lake Maggiore directly across from the Borromeo Islands. The hotel is lavishly decorated with spectacular views of the lake from the dining terraces, the outdoor pool and the guest rooms. Fabulous food, helpful staff, a gorgeous spa & elegant rooms make this a world class hotel. The top boutique 5 star hotel in Stresa, Italy.
