This was a great place to stay with an excellent location. They had a great breakfast with great coffee and an excellent bar bites with a glass of wine in the evening. Loved the young family that ran everything.

Nice location

Perfect location. Room is quite spacious, but i have never seen such a tiny shower cabin - hardly possible to fit inn. Bed could be a bit softer. Breakfast selection not too wide, but enough and very tasty.

Position of the hotel is excellent public parking in front of the hotel which is near the ferry terminal

The hotel was situated very conveniently across the lake and very close to everything in Stresa. It’s a beautiful family owned boutique hotel with a wonderful view from the common lounge or lake facing rooms and the owners and staff are very welcoming. The rooms are a little compact but clean. The breakfast is a good spread. It’s a great place to explore the lake maggiore area as the ferry terminal is right opposite and there are various boat companies doing tours of the Borromean islands. Walkable paths along the lake too. Paid parking is across along the lake and the hotel provides a special rate ticket. Thanks for the wonderful stay!

Breakfast was perfect in the morning, great location, and they offer tickets to the islands for better prices than at the docks. The owners are very attentive & will accommodate your needs. However, if you plan on staying out late (past 1 am) this is not the place for you as the door will be locked after that time and will reopen at 7 am. Will be coming back!

The photos of room when booking looked bright & airy with views to the lake. Our room was dark, dreary & outdated. I asked if they had any rooms with water views & was willing to pay for it, but they were sold out. I tried calling the hotel before our stay several times, but no one picked up. I accidentally booked two rooms on Hotels.com because it said my room wasn’t reserved thru the app, the hotel charged me for two rooms I never feel good about leaving a bad review.
Location was ideal, perfect! Close to restaurants & plaza area & shopping, easy walking to lake was right there & private garden & estate was within walking distance. Walking the promenade along the lake was easy from hotel & beautiful. Lago Maggiore was amazing!! Hotel, not so much. I wonder if we had had a lake view as I had hoped & the room was filled with natural light like the photos, I may have had a different experience.

This hotel is not a good place to stay if you want freedom on your holiday. I like to start my day early for a jog or walk at 5am with the sunrise. However, when I did try to leave the hotel the front was locked. I asked the manager why it was locked. His response was:
The front door is locked till 7am and you cannot leave before. If I do want to leave, I could ring the bell and wait for someone to open the door. However, I wouldn't be allowed back in till 7am\". I asked for a key, but he said they only have 1 key. Absolutely ridiculous.
This was more like a prison than a hotel.
Plus the door closes at 1am, so if you want to stay out late you can't get back in.
I was very, very restricted and quite annoyed at the attitude of the manager. It dampened my stay there.
I was also disappointed with the room. When booking this hotel, all the photos of the double room advertised with a lake view.
It was very deceiving. The balcony backed onto another hotel of which you could see into their rooms. The lake view was at the corner of my eye. Nothing like the photo.
The room was tired and plain. No fridge, which when staying somewhere hot is important.
If you want a quiet stay, this hotel is NOT the place.
It is on the main road and in the town. But I knew this would be the case, so I wasn't surprised by this.
The breakfast is not great. No eggs, no tomatoes, no cucumber, no cut bread or toast.
The thing was the power shower.

Ideal location, in front of the
Ferry station and the lake promenade and few steps to everything like restaurants and shops. A simple walking distance from the train station . Hotel staff are very nice and helpful. Very clean rooms and facilities. A perfect choice for a relaxed vacation.. I spent with my wife a weak and enjoyed every minute .. We would go again to the same hotel if we decide to go to Stresa again.

Receptionist at check in was unfriendly. Couldn’t even be bothered to look at me. She improved somewhat over the course of our five night stay but was not helpful. We actually got help with restaurant recommendations from a coffee vendor on the street.
Breakfast was boring - the same items. We had the same stewed prunes served for three straight mornings and the same cake. The other two mornings we got canned mixed fruit.

The hotel is in a great position, as the lake side is across the road where you can get on the boats for day trips. The train station is about a 15min walk away.

The staff are very helpful and friendly and the breakfast was good.

The rooms are very clean and some have views of the lake.

It gave us everything we needed for a week of sightseeing. If you have a problem with stairs, ask for a room on the first floor, where there is a lift.

Perfect location, good hotel

We had a lovely stay in the Hotel Italie Et Suisse. The location is perfect, close to the lake boats for exploring the Borromee islands, approximately 1 minute!. Plenty of restaurants very close by.
The staff here were great, always welcoming and friendly.
Breakfast was good, fresh croissants and coffee every morning to start the day. The young lady and man who greeted you and prepared your hot drinks were lovely.
The hotel was very clean. Our room was lovely, at the front overlooking the lake. My only comment would be it was a little dated and was in our opinion in need of updating.
The shower is great, love a 'power shower'.
we enjoyed a lovely stay, thank you all.

The location very good.
For the price and hotel rating not a 3 star property. Lucky to be 2*
Room needs a total update, our room was nothing like the photo
The beds need upgrading collapsing in the middle. The blankets very old and well used, sheets never changed in the 4 nights stay very disappointed.
The towels very hard and worn at the edges need replacing. Balcony needed a good scrub ,moss and dirt everywhere.

No tea or coffee making facilities.
Heating put on only at the owners discretion and the other form heating or cooling was locked so could not use.
Could have more breakfast supplies very basic, no eggs or bread for toast. They only offered hard small bread rolls or croissant no other pastries.

Unfriendly check in. For rear block, the lift only goes to the first floor. No guarantee of a lake view. Rooms plain and uninteresting. Walk-in shower not guaranteed.

The hotel is located in a very central location - across the street from the lake and ferry terminal, as well as the main shopping and restaurant area. The rooms are basic and clean. The breakfast buffet is standard. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

I reserved two rooms, one queen and one with two twins. The queen room had two terraces that overlooked a small piazza and had a lake view. It was close to the street, but the double-paned windows kept most of the noise of the cars away.

The double room also had a terrace and overlooked a passageway and other terraces. It was also quiet.

The hotel was a very good value and we had a pleasant stay.

Excellent Location but Rooms Tired

The staff are very helpful and friendly and the hotel location is excellent, being within easy walking distance of all the attractions of Stresa. However, the whole place has a rather tired feel and would benefit from updating. Overall we had a pleasant stay at modest cost and I do not regret choosing The Italie et Suisse, but as mentioned it does need updating.

Traditional, immaculate, well placed hotel.

Stayed here last week. The hotel is small, traditional and spotless. It is right in the middle of Stresa, so within easy reach of all amenities and is overlooking the lake.
My daughter was taken I'll and the owners were kind and helpful, Louanne was particularly good, nothing was too much trouble.
Would like to visit again but without the drama!

This hotel is fine if you want a cheap and basic accommodation,close to the port and main areas. Breakfast was also basic so we ended up going out for a decent coffee for our last 2 days.

Situated just across the road from the boat station, we thoroughly recommend Italie et Suisse Hotel in Stresa. Everyone there is friendly and smiling, there is a lift and wifi, the breakfasts are generous and varied and the coffee excellent. Our room (32) was a good size, had a small balcony with two chairs, was sparkling clean and our shower room had plenty of towels and constant hot water. Housekeeping is of the highest order and the hotel professionally and efficiently run, we can't wait to return!
There is a travel agent two doors away where we booked a Saturday afternoon coach trip to Macugnaga, in the mountains. Pickup and return was conveniently close, cost 42 euros, and we took the chairlift (16euros return) for a wonderful half hour ride up Monte Rosa. It was the highlight of our holiday.
There is a bus service, Alibus, from Milan Malpensa to Stresa. It needs prebooking, cost is 12 euros single fare. The stops are very close to the hotel.

Great Location, Decent Breakfast

This hotel is right on the main road, across from the ferry terminal and on the edge of old town Stresa. The location is great for access to the islands and for walking among the piazzas and restaurants. The breakfast is typical and average quality. The staff is great and very friendly. My only concern was that the wooden doors, older walls and tile floors led to a higher-than-average level of noise when in the room. An overall very pleasant stay. Lago Maggiore is incredible.

Good hotel if you have a car

This hotel is located across from ferry terminal and parking lot. They give you a card for your dash to park, which gives you a discount. It is a bit dated, but plenty comfortable and clean. The breakfast is buffet and pretty good. The lot always seems full, but wait about 15 mins and one will open up. Most cars are gone overnight.

Very enjoyable stay

Hotel Italie Et Suisse has an absolutely spectacular location for someone who wants to enjoy this lake town. Stresa has been attracting tourists from all over the work for many years and this hotel has been there for most of them. One step up gets you into the glass enclosed front porch dining room and the tiny lobby. The staff is multi-lingual and happy to help even when you do not speak Italian. The rooms are typical in size to most 3 star hotels we stayed in in the country. The bathroom was sufficient, the shower worked well and was a bit larger then a small closet (bigger than many). The beds are hard and split in the center which is also typical of hotels in Italy. The pillows were okay. The room was comfortable with a small desk and a small balcony which we did not get to enjoy due to the cold weather. The wifi worked well and was included in the price of the hotel. Parking was additional but conveniently located directly across the street in a public lot. From this hotel you can see the ferry dock and are just around the corner to all the restaurants and shops in the town.

Good location but...

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who is not accustomed to staff rudeness and unwillingness to help .The information on how to get there from the airport was inaccurate,we had to do that out on our own. The promise of free internet was also misleading, the access is severely limited. The same is true of free breakfast ,it is best to eat elsewhere .How to use the safebox in the room is also a mystery,this information has to be pried out of the staff .Guests staying out late at night risk not being allowed into their rooms. A charge for calling a taxi is added to the bill.

A very good, but modest, hotel

This is a modest hotel in a perfect location immediately opposite the ferry terminal and adjacent to a busy bar. Because of this, any room at the front of the hotel will be noisier than the back. However, this is more than compensated for by the view of the lake. However, the hotel is actually two hotels - one behind the other with a connecting floor at first floor level. We had a room in the front of the back hotel which had a side view of the lake. It was on the third floor with 79 stairs to climb as the lift only goes to the first floor. The room was quite small and did not resemble any of the photos, so it is best to check if your room is in the front of the front hotel! Breakfast was very good with cheese, hams and pastries but we encountered an embarrassing situation when the manager accused someone of taking a picnic for lunch and asking him how much he should charge on his bill for the extra food. Perhaps the guest had been blatantly taking food for lunch but this should not have been discussed in front of other guests.

The hotel is in a very good location right opposite the ferry terminal.Because of this it is good value for money.It is however in need of a bit of a facelift as it is looking a bit tired. We found the breakfast good although some of the staff were a little surly.
If you want a reasonably priced hotel in the centre of Stresa I would definitely recommend it.

Wonderful Stresa

We were in town for a few days at the end of our trip. The hotel is centrally located, near the wonderful shopping area and many fine restaurants. The staff is very helpful, and the included breakfast has a nice assortment of items. One negative: the room was quite warm at night, but we could not adjust the thermostat or turn on the AC, as the control was locked electronically.

I think the hotel is run by a family. They were very attentive and helpful, even when we could not speak italian and they could not speak English. Its a very simple accomodation, but good for what is needed. They are in a perfect location for exploring the islands( the boat terminal is literally across the street.) We enjoyed walking the streets behind the hotel. We fell in love with an enoteca there and the restaurant La Stornello is fantastic( insider tip- get the scallops). This was a perfect end stay for our trip.

Great Service and Location

Hotel Italie & Suisse is one of the oldest hotels in Stresa, and even although it has aged gracefully, it does lack a certain ‘modernity’. No problem, though, for that is more than compensated for by the friendly, helpful and attentive owner and his family. We visited at the beginning of October (2014) when it might be expected to find hotel staff tired and less than enthusiastic at the end of the season but not so: the service was excellent.
The accommodation was clean and comfortable; breakfast choices were limited but enjoyable.
Located opposite the ferry terminal and a 10 minute walk to the train station, the hotel is the perfect base for exploring the Lake Maggiore villages. Stresa Old Town, which lies right behind the hotel, offers a wide choice of restaurants and cafes (and prices). There are two we highly recommend.
1: Taverna del Papagallo, which has outdoor dining under a grapevine canopy, has an authentic Italian ambience, terrific service and great food with a bottle of very acceptable house red at a reasonable price.
2: The Pasticceria Gigi Bar, a short stroll along the lake-front from the hotel, became our favourite ‘people-watching’ café for afternoon coffee, or for our after-dinner night-cap. Great service, friendly and efficient. Their speciality, Margheritine Di Stresa - small, two-bite-sized, melt-in-the-mouth ‘cookies’ - are a must-try with a glass, or two, of Limoncello.

In Stresa for a Wedding

The hotel that the bride and groom recommended filled quickly and were booked when we tried to reserve our room. Based on gorgeous location right on the water, we chose the Hotel Italie et Suisse. The hotel is very, very worn. The pictures are faded, the tables and chairs need a facelift and the walls are begging for a fresh coat of paint. Our hotel room was NOTHING to write home about. The bed was not comfortable, the shower drain was slow (so showers had to be less than 4 minutes... boo!) and the room was crying for a facelift. The hotel also has a 1 AM curfew which was not conducive to a week of long wedding festivities (that we had to leave early every night). But the staff and the family who own it were very accommodating (and opened the door at 5 AM after a very late wedding!). We enjoy giving business to small family establishments and love the personal touch they bring to the holiday experience. The breakfast was great and the location for trips to Switzerland was ideal. I'd love to give these guys business again, but until the hotel gets a facelift... we would not return.

This is one of the original hotels in Stresa from the last century and has fantastic views of the lake from the room balcony. The family who run it made us feel welcome throughout the week we stayed there. The room was simple and modern and cleaned daily. The breakfast was not bad. The location is opposite the main boat terminal and almost next door to an excellent travel agent who sold tickets and gave excellent advice on trips etc The hotel is right next to the narrow streets of cafes and shops and the beautiful lakeside promenade. We found the owners very hospitable and had a very relaxing stay. Excellent hotel.

Hotel was clean and well located in Stresa. However the overall impression was one of just doing enough to achieve an average performance.
The room was sparsely furnished with no comfortable chairs, the air conditioning was locked off and the WIFI was only available on a chargeable basis.
The breakfast lacked any imagination although adequate.
It was a shame as the hotel location was perfect for the town and ferries but it just needs a rethink on customer service, but perhaps money is tight.

Greatest disappointment I have had ever!

Very nice pictures uploaded to the booking sites, but I've got the last \"mouse hole\" of the world (somewhere in a secondary building). The room was not even compareable to any of those pictures!!!! However, the room was basicly clean, it was unbelievably small for two people and very, very, very old and incomfortable. No elevators in this part of the hotel (only in the main building) available. It was a very big disappointment.
Only one remark I have had a chance to see a room in the main building! It might be that the rooms in the main building is not that terrible... but there is no information how the travelers are selected to get a room in the main building or in the \"secondary\" building.

Great week's stay at good value 3 Star Hotel

Sensible prices and a great lakeside location which combines views across the lake and practicality, as the lake ferrys depart from just opposite the hotel. Breakfasts were fine and there is a great choice of restaurants throughout the town right on your doorstep. You will find better facilities at some of the other big hotels in town, but you will pay much higher prices. The family who run the hotel were helpful and gave good advice when asked. Stressa is a great base for seeing the best of Laggo Maggiore, with a choice of ferry trips to Isolas Bella and Madre and other lakeside towns, along with cable car trips and fabulous views across to the Alps.

This hotel was situated in a near perfect place for getting to the ferries, buses and trains, and for poking through the shops. However, it was very cold. We had a room that overlooked a light shaft. It poured while we were there and the guttering did not cope so it was noisy, but the worst thing was that the heating in the bathroom had been turned off and we were cold, and could not get washing dry in there.

The staff were very nice and were very obliging in getting us a taxi, and it was reasonable good value for money.

The hotel is at a good location and the rooms are very clean. However, when we arrived at the hotel and checked in, they took us to a different building which wasn't mentioned at all in the hotel information page. This other building was very old and the rooms were far from the main building which had the nice view.
Initially they said this was the only room available. When we continued to speak with them, they first showed us a room that was worse, and then switched us to a room that was slightly better.
Overall, the rooms were very clean and the hotel is at a great location, but the staff tried to trick us, lied to us about the availability and were very ignorant when we tried reason with them to get what we reserved. I would definitely not recommend this hotel to a friend.

A very good hotel overlooking Lake Maggiore. Very convenient for the ferry terminal which was just across the road.

When we reported that a light was not working in the room, someone came straight away to replace the light bulb

Nice hotel in Stresa, Italy with some lake views.

Ask for 4th floor lake side room. Need to get high to see over trees to lake. Convient parking across the street; (8.5 euros, must be cash, pay at front desk of the hotel to get paper to put on your dashboard..

Enjoyable Stay at Stresa

We arrived at Stresa by ferry boat from Locarno, and the hotel was literally across the street as we disembarked! Check-in with Mr. Romano was quick, and he then graciously escorted us to our fresh and spacious 3-bedded air-conditioned room.

The hotel is VERY conveniently located. Around the corner we came upon a very pleasant piazza where we had dinner, and later a gelato as we walked around and window-shopped. Later in the evening we were able to relax in the hotel's sitting room where we enjoyed listening to the live entertainment from the outdoor restaurant next door, as well as distant fireworks across Lago Maggiorre from the sitting room's balcony.

It rained overnight but cleared up in the morning. Mr. Romano very kindly stowed our bags while we strolled along Stresa's waterfront area and had lunch. It was a little bit of a slight uphill walk to the train station (about 15 min), but still manageable.

Other than a minor challenge with the small shower enclosure (we all had water spilled into the bathroom during our showers), our stay at Italie et Suisse was very good. Wish we had more time to have enjoyed the area and make it out to one of the Borromeo islands, Isola Bella in particular.

We definitely recommend the hotel and would not hesitate to return, specially with as gracious hosts as the Romanos.

VERY small room

Spent one night in Italie Suisse. Booked a room for three, via Expedia. The room we got was at best suitable for a child accompanied by a cat - two kid-size beds and a folding armchair. Window was facing the wall of the adjacent building in the back, about 15 feet away, had to be shuttered for any privacy. Room was clean and meagerly furnished - as in a well-kept jail cell, I suppose, everything necessary, nothing extra, bedding was extra-cheap. Hotel was at most 50% occupied, judging by the number of people at the breakfast and the number of room keys idling at the reception, there was no reason why they couldn't offer a more suitable room. Reception claimed that the hotel was fully booked - clearly not true. Breakfast passable, but below average for the Italian hotels in this category. It seems - conjecture on my part - that the hotel is family-run, with everyone tasked to cut operating expenses to a minimum, rather than extending themselves to accommodate guests. Hotels location \"on the waterfront\" is largely irrelevant unless you get a lakefront room, but then you are facing the main driving strip as well - the rest of Stresa is pedestrian, and is tiny, the walk from any other hotel to waterfront is 2-5 minutes at most. Other hotels available on Expedia at Stresa at lower rates than Italie Suisse looked much more inviting from outside, although we didn't look at the rooms

Great location, good hotel, + experience

Best hotel this trip. Location in mid lake area of Stresa is convenient. Room was large with nice bath and had cross ventilation. Breakfast and Staff were great and we really enjoyed this hotel.

Unbelievable views from the lakeside

Unbelievable views from the lakeside balconies we had. All the views of the top end hotels in Stresa for a budget price. Wish there was air conditioning though!!

Loved It Loved It Loved It

My friends and I loved this hotel - big rooms and wonderful views of Lago Maggiore - hotel is situated in the center of town and across the street from the boat dock to go to all the islands - convenient to running back to the room to drop treasures off and going again!!
Great hotel would recommend to everyone and reasonable price!!!

Hotellet var ikke som forventet

Hotellet er rent og har en god beliggenhed centralt i Stresa. Morgenmaden var ok med frisk frugt og pandekager. Personalet ved morgenmaden var venlige.
Men værelserne matchede slet ikke billeder og beskrivelser. Vi havde bestilt 2 værelser med hhv. en dobbeltseng og 3 enkeltsenge. Begge skulle have balkon ud fra beskrivelsen og billederne viste flotte lyse værelser.
Vi fik i stedet 2 mørke værelser i et baghus med vinduer ud til mørke baggårde. Dobbeltværelset havde balkon, men uden møbler og det var heller ikke egnet til ophold pga den mørke baggård.
Værelset til 3 personer havde ingen balkon og 2 enkeltsenge mens den 3. seng var en gammel eenpersoners sovesofa.
Vi henvendte os i receptionen. De lovede at skifte sovesofaen med en enkeltseng, men det skete aldrig.
Vi havde et dejligt ophold i Stresa, men hotellet var ikke som forventet.
