Absolutely fabulous hotel in Stresa! Stayed there 3 nights after a work conference. Beautiful, charming, hotel with delightful staff. The location is superb across from ferry's. The views are spectacular and the town is so charming and quaint.I would definitely come back and stay. They also have a nice european breakfast. Everyone made you feel very welcome.

A good choice

The Hotel Milan Speranza Au Lac is a 4 star hotel located by the lake boulevard.

The hotel is a reliable choice in the slightly lower end of 4 star hotels.

We had a nice two night stay at the hotel. The room and the bathroom were as expected but we were slightly disappointed as there was no balcony and the view was to the building on the opposite side of the street.

The breakfast was of good standard and contained everything you can expect. Also the service at breakfast was of unusually high standard. We also had one dinner at the hotel and were pleased with both the food and especially the service, which was excellent.

We would happily stay there again.

Visited the 2nd week of September. The hotel is ideally located to visit the other islands and walking distance to shops and restaurants. Our room was very accommodating for 3 adults and it faced the lake with a beautiful view. The breakfast was very good and the hosts were very friendly. Would definitely stay here again.

First I’ll point out what I’d say are obvious to most stays in Italy, just because I think it’s good information for Americans like us. A lot of people on these apps leave negative feedback for these reasons, but just know that we’re in Italy and these factors are just about everywhere here.
1) there are steps to get to your room, sometimes a lot of them.
2) a lot of places don’t have elevators (this one DOES)
3) the showers are small! I’m 6’4” and 240lbs… I fit, but it’s not like home, lol. This place has a full size tub/ shower, but no curtain.
Okay now that that’s over with, here’s our actual review. Location is perfect! Right across the street from the ferries to the islands. Plenty of food and shopping really close. Room was nice and had a balcony that faced the lakes, awesome!!! Check in was painless, but parking is offsite. It was close enough though. Everything about the hotel and room was as expected and nice. Our big complaint though is that they were doing construction both mornings we were there. The walls are thin and it woke us up both mornings… too early! On checkout I was asked about our stay and reported that issue to them, but the lady didn’t seem to care how disruptive it was or how inconvenient it was for us.
I’m sure this isn’t always the case, so I’d still say it’s a good place to stay, but I wish we could’ve been better taken care of due to the construction. Like don’t put people in rooms next door to rooms you’re remodeling!!!

We had a lovely stay; wound up extending an extra night.Our triple room was on the small side for the 2 of us, as we had anticipated from the photos. That was compensated by the many positives: Excellent service from the staff. Spectacular view from our room, appreciated the blackout shades. Superb friendly attentive service during the extensive breakfast buffet - delicious breads, pastries, healthy cereals and yogurt, enjoyed having cappuccinos every day. Very convenient location to promenade walk, the ferry, charming town centre and restaurants. We did not mind the short walk to where our car was parked; and appreciated that the parking was included.

The corner room was very good, newer door to the balcony and window were quite effective in quieting the street and restaurant noise from below. The breakfast was good for European standards, excellent for US standards. Only ‘negatives’ were- parking is at the Regina Palace, a few mins walk, and limited parking during events like weddings. The room key was on a heavy weight, not the newer electronic keys being used, but we just left it with the front desk when we went out for the day. Would be nice to have hot tea and coffee in the lobby at night.

It’s the best location if you are visiting Stresa for the first time. The ferry can take you anywhere and just across the street. Can board the airport bus right outside the hotel. Great restaurant on site. Excellent service and great breakfast. We went to the pool one time and is very relaxing.

This is a beautiful historic warm and welcoming grand, yet friendly and comfortable, hotel. The staff was so very accommodating and everyone was happy and nice. Even though we don’t speak Italian, the staff always had someone who spoke English. Rooms are a bit small but you have to understand that this is an old hotel. The view over Lake Maggorie from the room is stunning. The ferry boats to the islands are right across the street in front of the hotel and the small downtown is right behind the hotel.

The hotel is gorgeous throughout and is perfectly located only a 10 minute walk from the train station and right along the shore. Your stay gives you free access to an amazing outdoor pool at the nearby Regina Palace hotel. The staff were very friendly and accomodating.

The room was comfortable and the AC worked well.

Checked-in before 12 noon was unpleasant, as our assigned room was dirty. Due to tele.conference and internet, my husband had to stay in the room for more than an hour until the tel. meeting was over. it was unpleasant as the room was dirty, dirty towels and garbage were n the toilet. We were told to leave the room as the housekeepers would not be available after 2pm. My husband had to stop his tel. conference earlier than it should have been. Breakfast was okay and staff in breakfast area were friendly. Location of the hotel is good.

Great location, friendly staff, small but clean rooms , tiny bathroom,. Got room 606: enormous terrace overlooking the lake on two sides of the room. The only thing that needs to be taken into account in this hotel is that it’s two buildings/hotels and you don’t know where they’ll put you up, Milan au Lac is nicer than Milan Speranza au Lac. But you are free to use the facilities in both.

We travel quite a bit and leave honest reviews. In hindsight we perhaps should have paid more attention to other reviews for this hotel. The location is great, close to everything in Stresa and the ferry terminal. We had an enormous balcony on the top floor, it was actually bigger than the room. Amazing views across the lake from there. We booked a double room but had two singles pushed together, with soft and uncomfortable mattresses. Aircon made lots of noise but not effective. Breakfast - don't bother. Nothing hot, not even a toaster, and only on until 9.30am even at the weekend. However, if you stay at the hotel as part of a tour group you have a different breakfast room with hot food and toaster! Bathroom very small, had to walk in sideways, great shower though. When we did ask staff for anything they were surly and seemed put out. At checkout no-one asked how our four day stay at their hotel had been. Be aware that the car parking offer is at another hotel, short drive and 5 min walk back to this hotel. Fine for us but others may struggle especially in heat. Stresa is a great base to explore Lake Maggiore, but this hotel does not seem 4 star

Everything is well organised. Car parking was free in a safe carpark at a neighbour hotel, the amenities were at the neighbouring hotel which was absolutely fine and easy. View is amazing when you have the correct rooms. We did. We only used the Hotel as a base for B&B. The breakfast is great. The staff are all friendly and efficient. Checking in and out is simple. We will definitely go back.

One long narrow room with both beds head to foot, leaving one bed with light access at their feet. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. The hotel is a lovely old beautiful building and is very convenient with shops and restaurants all around.
The dining room/breakfast room is a lovely room with a gorgeous patterned ceiling.
The tables are set with white tablecloths and quality silver cutlery, and the Italian waiters are dressed immaculately - all a very high standard.
The breakfast selection was very good.
The reception staff were very friendly and very helpful.

Great room with view, balcony, and included breakfast. Dinner at restaurant was delicious, excellent service. Used the business center to print airline boarding pass, staff had to add more paper to printer. Needed taxi from train station, too far to carry luggage. Staff also clued us in about shuttle to airport, saving the expensive cost of private taxi. Wish we had more time to spend to explore the area.

Good central location. Ferry terminal just across the road. Train station 10mins away. Plenty shops & restaurants nearby. Well worth paying that little extra to get the lake views. There are actually 2 buildings. We had to go next door to the restaurant for dinner but it wasn't a hardship. The staff were lovely, very attentive. The only downside was having to go to their sister hotel, The Regina Palace for the swimming pool but it is a lovely pool.

The hotel from the beginning was not very welcoming and accommodating. The parking was not clear and the receptionist was not very helpful. The rooms were dingy and very small. The hotel was in a great location, but that's about it. Overall I would never stay here again or recommend it to anyone.

This was our fourth visit back to this hotel. Staff are friendly and helpful. Although no hot food at breakfast, the selection of breads, meats, cheeses, cereal, fruit and cakes/pastries is very good. The waiting staff cannot do enough for you and constantly ensure there is a good supply of breakfast items so everyone has all they need. Whilst we were there this time, the weather was exceptionally hot so we made good use of the pool at the sister hotel, Hotel Regina. We would definitely return to hotel Milan Speranza au lac again.

We had a very pleasant stay. The staff was nice. The hotel is centrally located, a short (8-10 minutes) walk from the railway station. The bus stop to Milan's Malpensa airport is literally next door. Good breakfast. We would return to this hotel. Note, it is actually in two neighboring buildings, we were in the Hotel Milan wing. It is next to a church and at 8 AM you may hear the bells.

Nice hotel - misleading Expedia photo though!!

Really nice hotel, right on lakeside, although main road between it and the lake. This road runs right along Lake Maggiore though so you can't really avoid it, and it's not too much of a pain. Staff very pleasant and helpful, nothing too much trouble. Lake View rooms are defo best, balcony looks right out over lake & in the evening you can spend a while with a glass of vino watching the world go by. Wouldn't recommend high balcony room if you've got young children, it is quite low by UK standards. Breakfast is 100% continental, so nothing hot - but hey you're in Italy so embrace the culture. Waiters are very friendly and helpful, always give the impression that chaos is just about to break out, but somehow they never lose control, good job done by all. Housekeeping very good, rooms cleaned by lovely staff. Highly recommended & would certainly return if we come back to Stresa. Only niggle is with Expedia putting nice photo of pool on their hotel description - this pool is actually at the Regina Palace Hotel some 100 metres along the road. If you want to use it the Milan Speranza Hotel Reception will give you a voucher, show it at the Regina Palace reception and you can use their pool all day. Only a small point, just in case anybody wonders where the pool is, it is clear on the Hotel's actual web-site so not a criticism of them.

Good hotel at the center of Stresa. We took a room with a view of the lake which was great. Breakfast is good.

Beautiful hotel

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel very elegant hotel what you expect in the Italian lakes.very convenient to bus and ferry right at your door. Staff very helpful and a lovely little village right behind our hotel.

Great hotel with only one annoyance

This is a wonderful hotel in probably the prettiest area of Italy. The hotel was welcoming and the staff attentive. The Martie of the dining facilities, Raffa, was absolutely wonderful with both he and his staff providing excellent service and a welcoming attitude to all hotel clients. This hotel appears focused on guest relations and this is evident by the willingness to assist.

The only issue we had was the lack of tea and coffee facilities from mid morning until late afternoon. This was the only Italian hotel on our trip that did this - perhaps we were lucky with the others and believe this hotel should change its policy.

Despite our disappointment regarding tea/coffee facilities we would not hesitate to recommend this hotel for anyone wishing to stay in Stresa.

Good Base for Stresa

The hotel is located right across from the ferry dock as well as docks used by local boat companies to do lake and island tours. It is across the road from the lake itself, but has great views if you have a balcony room on the lake side. The hotel itself is comfortable, clean and well managed. The location is excellent for its access to restaurants, bars, and lake activities. Highly recommended for a stay in Stresa. One downside is that their free parking is located about 3 blocks away in the garage of another hotel, so drop your luggage first before parking.

Everything excellent, but found the in-house dinner restaurant menu lacking (lacklustre variety of choices despite being quite a long menu).

Dissapointing and expensive for what you get.

Terrible pillows that were completely flat and very hard bed. Not queen size bed but two doubles pushed together so you fall into the crack in the middle. Old tired feel to building. Pool and parking is not onsite and quite a walk to another property.
