Beautiful grounds and lots of wildlife. Food at the buffets was hit and miss. Steakhouse restaurant was great! Some staff were very polite and helpful, and some seemed like the guests just being there was a burden. Sargassum had made its way past the barrier a couple days into our stay, but the staff worked hard for a few days to get the beach area cleaned.

The proximity to xcaret is great and the buffet is okay. We were told dinner reservations were made every morning for that night. This was incorrect by the time we were sick of the buffet and ready to make dinner reservations they were pretty much all booked up. A lot of guests we spoke with had similar problems with the dinner reservations. Our backup plan, the pizza place was closed during it's open hours on two of the nights we tried. The maps on property are hard to read and it's easy to get turned around definitely not enough signage to help navigate.

Beautiful grounds. Huge property! Lots of activities for kids and a separate splash park. The wildlife is amazing. We loved watching the monkeys. There are several pools that are huge, beautiful, and well maintained. We thought the property was a great value. The buffets had a large variety and the food was good. I knocked off one star because the check in process was loooong and it was nearly impossible to get dinner reservations at the speciality restaurants. You had to go to the lobby at 7am to book 2 days in advance. These little blips would not stop me from staying there again. We had a great time. 4 adults. 2 rooms. This was a family trip with our adult children.

We recently stayed at Occidental at Xcaret Destination and overall had a really enjoyable experience.

The property itself is absolutely stunning—one of the most lush, jungle-like resort settings you could ask for. The wildlife was incredible and truly sets this place apart. We had monkeys visiting our balcony daily, which was amazing to watch. If you enjoy nature and wildlife, this resort is hard to beat—but if that’s not your thing, this may not be the place for you.

The pools were great, always clean and relaxing, and the entire resort has a very natural, immersive feel. The staff across the board were kind, friendly, and very helpful. One employee, Moses, really stood out as exceptional and went above and beyond to make our stay better.

Our room was nice and comfortable, housekeeping did a fantastic job, and the minibar was always well stocked. The bars were also excellent—service was quick and always came with a smile.

The only downside was the food, which was just okay overall. That said, the pizza restaurant was outstanding—honestly better than most pizza places in the U.S.

Check-in could definitely use some improvement, as the process felt slower than it should be.

All in all, this is a beautiful resort with a unique jungle atmosphere, great service, and unforgettable wildlife experiences.

The resort is not bad. On the positive side, it is situâted among jungles, and many animals feel freely to move in the territory and they are friendly at the same time. This is really great & unusual! The resort is big and you really have impression to stay among jungles - the buildings are not visible and one stays in interaction with nature - we loved it.
When coming to the policy of hotel to treat customers is really weird and unpleasant. The clients with réservations from Expedia are tréated like the low level « third class » people. We booked a junior suite and I looked at the website that certain amenities should be included (like slippers and bothrobes). But when we came to the room nothing was and, they say you are «from Expedia » and thus not entitled for these. They also have a building where “Expedia” people are being placed - Expedia building - and considered lower level. So it feels like segregation. We spent 7 days in the resort and felt such attitude in every aspect. Another example is booking of the restaurants “à la carte” - one has to come at 7:00 every morning to reception to maybe book a table inthe restaurant in the evening. All this is created artificially because they give priority and keep tables for other guests. While we went to the restaurants and 2-3 times they were almost empty at 20:00 and later. But Expedia regular customers still have to “fight” with staff to get reservation - it is a nonsense attitude and definitely not in vacation spirit!!!

The room was nicely air conditioned.
We could not book specialty restaurants due to our own busy schedule. The buffets were clean and Pacos Tacos was wonderful. The Beach club buffet was good and the view was breathtaking. Staff was amazing.
MTS will up charge you so be careful of that!

This is my third time at this resort and every time has been great. Honestly, the food is average but who goes to a sun destination for the food anyway. It's all about the sand, sun, and relaxation and this resort delivers. And it's close proximity to 2 major parks(Xplor and Xcaret) cut our travel time down huge so we could spend more of our vacation enjoying everything else! This resort is great for girlfriends, couples and families add there is something for everyone to enjoy. And it's jungle environment means you are immersed in nature and not packed on top of one another.

Lets start from the beginning, the food at
this resort is terrible. We stayed at Royal level and the food wasn’t any better then the buffet. The sewer smell in the resort is very off putting. We were made to change rooms because of a leak they had in the room under us. We came back from breakfast and the water in the shower and tub were shut off, we were told they had to turn it off due to a leak. We were understanding and told the staff its fine and when we would be back so our water could be turned back on. We came back to our room and there were five men in our bathroom cutting a hole in the ceiling with all of our personal belongings everywhere. At rhis point we were upset. Went to the desk and we were told it would be five minutes. We were lied to and the manager caught us as we were about to go to the pool and told us we had to change rooms. All in all it was about 5 hours lost of our vacation. This resort needs alot of updating. The best part was the wild life.

On the first day, the air conditioner had a severe moldy smell that caused a terrible headache and sore throat. After that, I couldn’t use it at all, no matter how hot it was.

The amenity containers also seemed poorly cleaned and had a strong damp, wet rag smell, which was extremely unpleasant and unhygienic.

The hotel was absolutely gorgeous. The river flowing through the grounds made for a great place to walk, explore, and travel into the park. I loved how close we were to the beach. The fact that there was wildlife and plants integrated into the paths between the hotel and beach was incredible. I highly recommend Xcaret park as well…this park is in its own class of beauty and has so many options. You could easily spend days there.

The food was not good. You get what you pay for. I pretty much stuck to what I knew. Breakfast was fine and the beer was beer so that’s about all I needed. It is worth going into town for better food.

The property was beautiful! Abundant wildlife, it was amusing to watch the monkeys on the trails, trees and balconies 🤗 the pools were big enough for all of the guests remember to put your towels down early if you want a chair! Same with the beach. There is a lot of walking Moses was great he picked us up a few times in a cart.
The pillows were not comfortable! The cots are more comfortable than the pull out couch. The food was what you would expect at an all inclusive plentiful and fresh but my granddaughter said bland.
Xcaret was great we got the unlimited pass and went to the park all but one day.

The resort is so cool because of the wild life! Monkeys, deer, iguanas, etc. however, the rooms are only okay, nothing WOW. I also ended up getting some sort of bug while there and was so sick the last 3 days of our trip. Horrible diarrhea, ended up having to go to the ER as soon as we got home. I’m assuming it’s due to poor hand hygiene and food handling. I watched one of the bartenders mix a drink with his finger, multiple staff members not using gloves to serve or prepare food, etc.

All inclusive is supposed to be a food experience, I think from the week I found a couple of good flavorful items. Everything the was terribly bland, no flavor and disappointing.
We did not drink the cool aid and join their \"club\" and so we had to stay on the poor people side, which meant sub par food and a terrible hotel room. My family stayed in building 10 in a nice 2 bedroom suite, 1 King and 2 queen beds. The only problem is when the other rooms turned on their water it sounded like the police were about to break down our door, there was a terrible knocking that happened everytime one of the other rooms turned on their shower. When we told management, they made it sound like they had heard that compliant before and offered us another room that were \"close\" to each other but not connected or next door and only had a king bed in each room. So we stuck it out with the knocking and didn't sleep well.
Now I hear that if you are able to book the Royal Level they don't let the poor people in that didn't join the club, and that is where all the good food is as well as the good reviews.
Spend the extra money and stay at the real Xcaret with the good food and access to all the parks. $4,500 life lesson I wish I would have known a couple months ago.

The property was in good condition. There are a couple things that bothered me. The staff near my room building continued to want me to stop and get information about returning. I had not even started my vacation and already felt them wasting my time trying to listen to promotions. Also the buffet staff were trying to take my plate 5 minutes after I started eating. In one instance the waitress told me 3 times that they will be closing the buffet in 15 minutes. If I still had 15 minutes to eat I don’t see why they had to continue to bother me. One time notice would have been enough.

Coffee was terrible even the one we bought! They didn’t mop the hallway floors, we were there for 4 days and the floors stayed dirty. Food was gross drinks are gross syrup tastes like chemicals. The first room they gave us was full of mold it smelled so bad they moved us rooms to a side where they were remolding they started demo at 6 am and it smelled like acetone. The beds were small and hard definitely do not recommend.

The food was subpar at best. Breakfast was the same thing every day with no variety but the reason we will not return is how difficult and unwelcoming the reservation process they have in place for dinners. Was we had three rooms in a party of nine we only were able to get two nights of specialty dinners, and that was after putting much pressure on the woman who had a terrible attitude behind the counter… The Mexican restaurant was deplorable served us ice cold food after waiting an hour and 45 minutes for our entrées.. terrible attitude from the wait staff(at the front when you check in at La Hacienda) after spending thousands for a five night stay and bringing along family and friends to share the experience. This was quite an embarrassing situation to say the least that was not our first day at occidental, but it will be our last. I don’t know if ownership changed from 2018 till now but the surface the quality of food and professionalism has completely tanked.
It saddens me because the eco-friendly beautiful vibe of the wildlife was an awesome memory for our family with both visits, but unfortunately does not outweigh the negative

What a great trip. We loved the unique location, the surrounding animals and nature, excellent service, and comfortable rooms. The food was great, everything was well-organized, and everything ran smoothly. The salespeople were a bit pushy initially, but once we shared our plans and preferences, they gave us space. The Xcaret park entrances are literally right by the lobby and the hotel's beach areas. However, it felt like you were inside Xcaret park even while on the resort grounds. We booked unlimited park entrances, and that was a fantastic choice for us. We did 1-2 experiences each day and then enjoyed relaxing by the pool or the ocean in the afternoons. The night shows at the resort were entertaining and culturally rich. This was our 6th or 7th trip to Mexico, and we’ve learned so much about its culture, people, and beautiful land during this visit.

I was a bit apprehensive after seeing some of the complaints from others about this resort. I am very glad I went ahead and booked. There is a lot to love about this resort, and only a few small negatives.

This resort is very sprawling and covers a lot of ground. With how it is built into the jungle, it feels like a mini adventure park just walking around. They have several Mayan ruins, lots of kept and unkept wildlife, like monkeys, deer, and macaws. The main pool is huge and beautiful. It is slightly brackish (salty), but this I think is actually a plus. There are several kids areas and a very nice daycare program and play area. For us the ocean cove was a hit. Fish, activities, sand. Wonderful for relaxing. A snorkeling area, though water there is rougher and the entry needs work.

Many other reviews complained of food and rooms being dated. For the premium restaurants, The Oriental restaurant is the best, The Mexican was okay, the rest were not a good fit for us. Buffets here are excellent and they clearly spend time and staff them to make it a premium experience. I highly recommend the buffets. Huge variety of food, most of which is very well prepared. Deserts and baked goods were very tasty everyday.

As for the rooms, yes, they are showing their age some, but the beds were comfortable, rooms were clean, maintained, and everything worked as it should. Their wristband room keys are awesome. Common areas are beautiful and clean.

On our first day, right after arrival, we went to the beachside restaurant. Unfortunately, the food selection was very limited, and most of the dishes were cold and low quality.

When we got to our room to rest, we were very disappointed to find multiple large, clearly visible stains on the bed sheets and pillowcases. This was quite upsetting, especially as a first impression. We contacted Expedia and even requested to change our hotel, but that request was not approved. However, the front desk provided us with another room, which was noticeably better.

Overall, the food quality throughout our stay was below average. Most dishes were either cold or overcooked.

On a positive note, the majority of the staff were kind and friendly, with only a couple of exceptions, which didn’t significantly affect our experience. The hotel environment and natural surroundings were beautiful and definitely one of the highlights of the stay.

Let’s start with the good - staff is generally very helpful and friendly. Special shout out to Wendy in the Spa. Our couples massage was good. Be prepared for the wildlife - monkeys, iguanas, deer, capybara, parrots, and coati. The rooms were average. Room service came daily, however, you must ask for face towels and you are lucky if you receive them. We have a few plumbing issues in our room that were resolved pretty quickly. I did have to remind the staff cleaning up after the toilet overflow to please use cleaning solution on the floor in the bathroom. That was a bit concerning, but ultimately it got done. The best times were actually off of the resort at the Xplor park and my favorite was taking a ferry ride to Cozumel. They do offer nightly shows, which I did not have an opportunity to enjoy - my days were long and the weather was warm so I spent most days by the pool or after the lagoon. The most disappointing thing about the resort was the food. We were unable to book a restaurant for several days and were stuck eating the buffet food, which was mediocre at best. The breakfast buffet was better, but generally, the food is below average. I went completely without food on one night because the food we ordered at the Mexican restaurant and waited two hours for was served cold. For our trouble, we received free room service, which we used the following night and was also cold. It tasted like it had been in the refrigerator. Despite the good service, I would not stay again.

It was paradise! You are in the middle of the jungle with the ocean within walking distance. The people working at the resort are amazing! They are knowledgeable and kind as well as helpful. We had two rooms, a king junior suite and a double junior suite. The king suite was huge with a couch and love seat that you could turn into an additional bed. Both rooms had balconies. The double suite was on the top floor (3), so there was a lot of monkey activity. Do NOT feed them or touch them because they bite. You will ruin your vacation by needing a tetanus vaccine, rabies protocol, and antibiotics not to mention the trauma from the actual bite. They will also steal your things, like your eyeglasses and jewelry. They are fun to watch, but keep your distance. There are tons of exotic animals and giant iguanas. The food isn't gourmet, but there are options for everyone. The alcohol is included and strong, so drink tons of bottled water. They recycle. Leave all of your plastic cups and water bottles in your room, and housekeeping will take care of it. We had an incredible time and highly recommend going there. The resort is very safe. It's also quiet at night.

Occidental Xcaret is an absolutely stunning resort! From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by how beautifully the property is woven into the surrounding jungle, it truly feels like you’re stepping into another world. Waking up to lush greenery and wildlife all around made the experience so unique and unforgettable. Monkeys visited our balcony every day and it was AMAZING! 😍

The staff went above and beyond to make our stay special, always warm, welcoming, and attentive. Our room was spacious, spotless, and incredibly comfortable, perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring.

We had such an incredible vacation and are already dreaming about coming back. This place is pure magic! We will definitely be returning!

Overall, it is a lovely family-friendly hotel surrounded by nature, with a very pleasant atmosphere. In the evenings, the variety of restaurants for dinner is good; however, lunch options are limited.

The beach restaurant is not recommended, as we had a very negative experience seeing birds pecking at the food without proper control measures in place.

For children, the kids club is small but adequate. The breakfast buffet is generally good and offers a nice variety.

The rooms are very comfortable and well maintained. Additionally, the pricing options that include access to the parks are quite convenient and offer good value for money.

We had a great stay and would come again. The only problem we had was the restaurants. Reservations were very difficult to get at all the resaurants and the quality of the food at most of them was poor. We ended up eating at the buffet more than we expected. The hotel and the staff were great.

This is an older resort but it is beautiful. Rooms are clean and comfortable. You are immersed in nature with the deer, Coatis and monkeys!! The resort never felt crowded, not even the pools or lagoon. If anything could be improved it would be the food. Breakfast was great, buffet for lunch and dinner you could always find something. We did the Mexican, seafood and oriental à la carte. Mexican was NOT good, the other 2 were great. The food just didn’t stand out. We had one person in our group with celiac and they were more than accommodating! Staff is fantastic!

Our room and room location were awesome, overlooking the interior waterway. Property is absolutely beautiful. Wildlife everywhere, lots to explore, loaded with pools and activities, and the beach area was breathtaking. My son had a wedding there and you couldnt dream of a prettier backdrop. Just a few (minor) complaints that keep it from being a 5 star resort, in my opinion. 1) the room fridge was not adequate for cold drinks... beer, sodas, water. It just never seemed to get anything cold. 2) no privacy in the bathroom due to the louvered door. Every sound and scent was open to the entire room. 3) absolutely NO control over the water temp in the shower. From comfortable to scalding hot, to ice cold with absolutely no warning, and no consistency. Other than those few, very fixable issues, we LOVED the resort. We WILL be back. Our first all-inclusive experience and loved every minute of it. Thank you to the Occidental staff for making our stay, our sons wedding, and our son and daughter-in-law's gender reveal such an amazing and memorable experience.

Enjoyed our stay. The Activities Staff was amazing (shout out to Leo, Leslie, Paola, Natalia, Davina, and Jorge) and we enjoyed the beach, pool, and evening entertainment. Check in was fine, it it would have been helpful to know that we would have a building concierge who would give us all the specific details (Building 18- Michelle Ramirez was fantastic!). Beautiful property and it met our expectations.
