Great place to stay

We enjoyed an overnight stay here. Close to the station (but uphill) very comfortable room, very clean. We arrived quite late and it was great to be able to get a drink and snack from the bar. We were able to store our bags there while we went to visit the cathedral. We didn’t have breakfast but it looked good with plenty of sliced ham and cheese, and good value.

This hotel was very cozy and with warm reception. Room is clean and the water pressure was amazing, but can be noisy at night due to other guests and/or traffic. It was hot and couldnt manage to make the arcon into cold air.

Staff were extremely helpful and very nice. The hotel listing incorrectly states that laundry service is onsite. This is not true. I struggled to get laundry done offsite since you compete for laundry service from local apartment dwellers and those walking the Camino to Santiago. The room was very sparse - not hand moisturizer (the soap was very drying), conditioner, or waste basket in the room. There were no decent places to eat nearby, and those close were small, smoky bars with limited menus.

The hotel room was very basic & worn decor. Mattress was quite hard & for those doing extended travelling, there was no mini fridge. Our room had French doors but you looked onto a wall, however it was nice you could get some fresh air. Be aware that the walk to the Cathedral & old town was some distance away. Parking was easy with the use of a Parking Station nearby.

The room is very clean and the staff are all amazing. The rooms are also very small if thats important to you. Our favorite thing was the rainhead shower AMAZING!! :) Pilgrim friendly :)
The air-conditioning did not work but we didnt mind as it was cool enough weather in early june. (2023 june 8th to 23th) It is a hoyel that meets your needs. Iwould definitely stay again.

very handy if you are arriving by train, just a couple of blocks away, so you wont have to carry your luggage for too long. it may take 10 min to get to the downtown area. easily accesible, has an elevator, nice staff, provide recommendations and tips on restaurants and things to do.

We booked through Expedia and may have got the worst room! Other reviews we read were good. Hotel is very short walk to train station and historical centre. Customer service at check-in was exceptional pity could say the same for the room we got. It was small, there was water damage to wall between bathroom and bedroom, paper thin walls and in great need of an upgrade
No amenities and wifi didn't work. Unless you have a very early train to catch find another hotel or make sure you get what you see.

It is in a perfect location being close to the train station and the city centre. As we booked a room for 4 nights initially, kindly, we were given an option to stay in a bigger room. Even though it was outdated compared to the one we booked and the beds were not very comfortable (probably the modernized rooms would have better mattresses), it was spacious and had a big window. Considering its perfect location (for us anyway), overall, we were satisfied even though wifi was rather unstable. We had breakfast...ummm, that was the first and the last. The bread had gone stale and did not enjoy at all. Perhaps it was the 1st of Jan? Anyhow, I would give a miss as there are many cafes around to have a simple but lovely breakfast. The person we met on our first day was very helpful. But when I found out that there was no soap in the bathroom, I asked and a different person at the reception gave me a couple more small bottles of shampoo and body wash and told me \"okay?\" in a stern voice. Well, I did not know how to respond to that and I just kept quiet and hoped not to have any more interaction with her.

We stayed two seperate nights, the first after walking part of the Camino Norte so the wonderful power shower was so welcome. Delicious breakast, we returned after 2 days in Finisterrre and had to leave too early for breakfast so the wonderful man on reception made us a coffee with tiny croissants, so welcome and no charge, a really good hotel in the centre of Santiago - thank you.

A quick stay after completing the Camino Frances. Very clean and comfy room, huge bathtub, tasty breakfast and nice staff. Very close to Santiago town center - practically walking distance. A small minus is the lack of restaurant in the hotel, or even the possibility to have something small to eat with a glass of wine, but the neighborhood is filled with restaurants and tapas bars, so not a big deal all in all.

I stayed for 1 night - enough time to explore Santiago de Compostela. The hotel is located conveniently a few minutes walk from the train station. To walk to the church takes a little longer, but still not a problem.
The double bed was comfortable. The room size good, and more than adequate for a couple. The tiled bathroom a good size with a shower over the bath and very clean with the usual co prime Gary shampoos, bath gel, etc...

I stayed in room 205 and would happily stay again.

We found the location good for accessing the bus to airport and only a short taxi ride from the central bus station where we arrived. The room was comfy, quiet and very clean. Walking distance to busy Old Town and Cathedral district, close to shops and train. Helpful staff and a good continental buffet breakfast selection. The sitting area on the first floor was a nice spot for relaxing. An enjoyable stay!

Good hotel value for money

We booked 2 nights at this hotel while visiting Santiago. This hotel definitely was the best place we stayed so far on our 1 week roadtrip in northern Spain considering we haved stayed at much pricier establishments of which this place reflects the best value for money. The location is a 10 mins stroll to the historic core and just a stone throw away from shopping street and restaurants. Room was adequate and clean. Do ask for the front facing rooms towards the main street as the size is larger yet quiet at night so sleep was not an issue at all. The staffs response and courtesy were very good of which we couldn't fault. The buffet breakfast I reckoned was normally included in the price and of basic to average. But there are abundants of cafeterias nearby to sample the Spanish delicacies so for us it wasn't an issue. I would definitely recommend this hotel in future trip to the city.

I checked into my room and found the AC to be inoperable. I referred the problem to the desk who claimed to have fixed the problem electronically (remote AC system). It did not work. I went back down to the desk to find a new receptionist who knew nothing of the issue. All this happened within ten minutes. The female receptionist worked diligently to fix the problem. She was an asset. I moved rooms only to find the AC barely operational, the carpet dirty and the room very dated.

At this point, I called it for what it was: a bad choice in hotels.

It is a very well located hotel to get access to Santiagos' centre. The hotel has no parking of its own but there are two public parking (x2) just a few yards away from which you will get a reduced rate by having your parking ticket stamped at the hotel. Breakfast was included and varied. Staff was friendly and obliging. The room was big enough for the both of us, clean but the bed was extremely hard and uncomfortable (bad backache next morning!!!)

This was our first trip to Spain and our stay in Santiago was planned as a highlight. Booking online can be hard, but the Hotel San Carlos was indeed everything the web pages said it would be. The hotel was clean and well appointed. Our room had built in speakers and several choices of musical styles that was extremely welcome and enjoyable. Staff was very friendly, even for us non-Spanish speakers. The breakfast was a pleasantly robust surprise, and a great way to start the day. The big coffee mugs were the first we'd encountered since leaving the United States, and we enjoyed them. The walk to the cathedral was a little longer than I'd planned, and the street has a bit of incline. You walk up-hill to the cathedral area. The area around the hotel had plenty of markets and restaurants with excellent variety and service. I would recommend this hotel to friends, and stay again if returning to Santiago de Compostela.

Paper-thin hotel

Clean and comfortables rooms, clean bathrooms with all in perfect working order. This hotel has a great location, not far from the old town and very near to both the train station and the airport bus-stop. The buffet breakfast was 1st-rate and varied slightly every day. There was access to a computer in the lobby. The only flaw was that the wall between my room and my neighbours' was very thin with inadequate sound-proofing. I was woken as soon as they returned and slammed the door. After that, to drown out their noise, I had to put on the aircon at a normal temperature and at fan 3; this worked. The staff were helpful and courteous, although once when I accidently left my key inside the room and had to get another, this was greeted with furrowed brow and much unecessary sighing.

Hotel San Carlos is very well located, within a few minutes walk of the train station & about a 10 minute walk, if that, to the Cathedral. I stayed for 9 nights and my room was always well cleaned. It was spotless when I arrived and the staff did a great job keeping it that way & making sure I had more than enough fluffy towels. The room wasn't cramped at all--very good sized. The mini bar was also priced below what many hotels charge. The staff was also helpful. The WIFI was free, but very weak; fine for a bit of internet surfing or checking email, but that is about all. The breakfast was lousy. I did breakfast the first morning & was shocked. For 9 Euros, you get to choose from a very, very small buffet selection; no eggs, tomatoes, hot meat. The selection was really bad. Their bar & room service selection is equally lousy. Fortunately, Santiago de Compostela has no shortage of very good places to get a bite to eat, regardless of your buget. They offer spa service too, but I didn't use it. If you are looking for a hotel with a great location, easy access to the train station & all of the sites; I would recommend this place. If you want to eat a decent meal at your hotel, or start your day with a good breakfast; look elsewhere.

Sehr schönes Hotel, ruhige Lage, trotzdem nicht weit von der Altstadt. Schöne Geschäfte in der Nähe, die Bushaltestelle für den Direkttransfer zum Flughafen war in 3 Minuten fußläufig zu erreichen.
Wir waren schon in der Nacht davor in diesem Hotel, gebucht über Santiago Ways.
Die freundliche Rezeptionistin hat uns völlig unkompliziert ermöglicht, für die zweite Nacht dasselbe Zimmer zu behalten.

Hotel ubicado a 10 minutos del centro caminando, en zona tranquila y muy cerca de la estacion de autobuses y trenes. Habitacion correcta y precio ajustado

La habitación está bien en general. El colchón es un poco rígido. El baño es amplio y tiene secador. La bañera necesitaría una barra para agarrarse. El sistema de calefacción se regula manualmente con termostato, pero es un poco ruidoso y no se desconecta de forma automática.
El personal es muy amable.
Está situado a unos 15 minutos a pie de la catedral de Santiago y a 5 minutos a pie de la estación de Renfe. En las proximidades cuenta con tiendas de todo tipo: supermercado, moda, cafeterías, panaderías, etc.

La habitación era cómoda, pero se escuchaban ruidos de las habitaciones contiguas y del hall entre habitaciones.El desayuno/buffet, bastante bien para el precio que tiene.
