Under Canvas is amazing! This was our first experience glamping and the staff was so helpful in explaining everything. They were friendly and eager to help in any way - from taking us and our luggage from the parking area to our tent, to starting the fire in our stove one night, as well as switching out the propane tank late one night so we could have hot showers in the morning. I loved the s’mores out by the fire pits in the evening and the mountain view from our tent was incredible! I’d give 10 stars if I could!

I LOVED this experience! We were only there for the night (and a brisk one at that). We were introduced to our camp site by Fiona and she was lovely. Our campsite was so cool. Just like the pictures! We had dinner at the on-site restaurant which was delish. We didn't realize that we had to maintain the camp stove all night, but again, it was worth all the experience! We also booked a king size bed with bathroom facilities in our tent. The views were amazing. The camp had games, things to do, snacks, hot cocoa (tea & coffee) as well. We made smores as well! I wish we would have stayed there for more than one night. BUT overall such an amazing experience for us Northeasterner's!

The staff were very helpful and friendly and the views were stunning! We loved the atmosphere and amenities available (shout-out to the s'mores bar). Our tent was really cozy and tidy, though since we came earlier in the season it was definitely colder, so be prepared to layer and use hot water bottles since the fire stoves don't last very long unless you tend to them continuously. The shared bathrooms are nice for the more rustic stay, but we recommend being strategic about when you shower - showering when others are also there means having to reset the water a few times to keep it warm. Huge shout-out to the restaurant on-site. The staff are really nice, and the food was really delicious! We ended up defaulting there for dinner to avoid the crowds in nearby West Yellowstone, and that ended up being the right call for us!

TLDR: Beautiful stay, terrible nights

My wife and I loved our stay. From beginning to end the staff was incredibly helpful and friendly, which was much appreciated. They also have coffee and hot chocolate that you can take at your leisure, which is awesome.

Now come the cons of the trip. Firstly, the shower. I never thought that having to pull a lever for water would be such an inconvenience when you shower solo, but that was one. It also doesn’t help that you have to take breaks in between the bursts of water or you may in fact start accidentally boil yourself.

Second, the heating situation. Let me tell you, you’d better be a master at keeping that fire under control, because my wife and I woke up like popsicles and were even joking that we slept in an igloo. Wasn’t pleasurable waking up shivering and with a headache, so my recommendation would be to bundle up before you go to bed just in case.

Overall, the experience was great. I’d like to shoutout Joe for his wonderful service.

This was their first weekend open, so I must give them some slack. The weather got down to 35 degrees every night, and we froze, FROZE!! The fireplaces barely heat 10 feet around the stove, and the wood burns out in 90 minutes, so unless you do are willing to get up all night long, it is impossible to consider this as a heat source. Plus, our tent filled up with smoke because the wind was blowing down the stove vent. There is a swivel on top, but they were rusted and not swiveling, thus all the clothes I wore smelled like campfire smoke. I saw one guy using his fire extinguisher to put out the smoke fire in his tent.
They do smores every evening over gas fires, not wood. But the staff did not restock the smores supplies, so an hour into smores time, there was no more supplies available.
The insta hot water worked pretty well, but all shower, sink and toilet all were fed from that hot water line, so no cold drinking water in the unit. Also, the shower on/off handle was above your head, and hard to keep pulling down and washing with one hand.
We tried to reschedule our dates, but when we talked the \"under canvas\" manager, he said because we booked with Expedia it was nonrefundable. So maybe book with them directly if that is the agreement Expedia has.
We booked the star gazer unit, and that was well worth the price. Overall, I felt it was overpriced when paying over $500 per day for tent camping for what I would consider worth only maybe $200/night.

What a delight to stay at Under the Canvas West. The staff is super helpful and accommodating to your needs. We loved the glamping experience. Our tent had an indoor bathroom which met our needs. The small wood burning stove kept us warm at night. This is a great option if you like camping but want a slightly elevated experience. I would definitely stay here again.

We booked this property through Hotels.com and arrived at 10:30 PM to find no one at the front desk. We had to locate another guest who kindly provided us with a phone number to reach the front desk. Eventually, someone arrived and showed us to our accommodation.

Unfortunately, the room conditions were unacceptable:
•No heater
•No hot water in the shower or sink
•No electricity
•Extremely uncomfortable bed

We were freezing throughout the night and could not rest properly. Given that we paid a premium rate for this stay, we immediately requested a refund. However, we were told it was “too late” and that a refund would not be issued.

This response is unacceptable. We expect a full refund due to the lack of basic amenities and the failure to provide what was advertised. Please confirm how you will resolve this matter promptly.

The actual facility was nice, the employees were nice. I have stayed at the Grand Canyon facility, and I liked the main tent with the restaurant and the book reading area much better than West Yellowstone, where the main tent was a little boring and I didn’t like Having to go to the log cabin style restaurant that kind of took away from the feeling that we had at the Grand Canyon. And as far as my shabby surroundings comment I couldn’t get over every time we drove in and out from the main highway having to drive by the kind of trailer park area where the employees lived. I think that should’ve been put away in the back of the facilities so when you drove in, you didn’t have to drive by and through that it’s kind of like driving through a ghetto to get to Beverly Hills.
Don’t mean to be rude just being honest I’m sure that’s not gonna change anything. Thank you.

This place is well done. Great check in process with Montana Jim (but takes 20 mins to go through everything so be prepared). It's pretty much what you see in the pics is what you get. The good: if you want a \"glamping-style\" experience it is. The bad: it's really not very close to Yellowstone, it gets cold at night and the stove in the tent only handles 2 hours at a time, the hot water is only hot, the sink/shower in tent is very basic, the sky-gazer part of the tent has no shade and it gets very bright and very hot in the morning on your face, there's not much to do right at the camp. All in all, fun for 1 night but you better be the hearty-type and ready to keep yourself entertained while there.

This was a unique experience for my family of four in early July 2025. The staff was very friendly and helpful. While it's hot during the day, West Yellowstone weather will quickly change, and cold will be a whole new experience. A buddy told me the potbelly stove my dry my throat out after having radiation treatments months prior as I continue to heal. We have never felt cold like that and the remaining nights would be with the fire burning to keep us warm. Lesson learned. The key is stoking the fire to get the logs burning just right. They will teach you how to do this during orientation. I recommend the Suite tents that have a sink and shower.

Unsafe Stay – Smoke and CO Exposure, No Heater, Po

We stayed for two nights—myself, my wife, and our two kids—and unfortunately had a very distressing experience due to serious safety issues with the room.

The wood stove heater in our room was malfunctioning from the start. I called room service multiple times; each time, someone came to restart the fire, but it would go out again in less than an hour. The room quickly filled with smoke, forcing us to leave the windows open in freezing temperatures. On the first night, I nearly developed frostbite.

Even more concerning, we were unknowingly exposed to carbon monoxide. The next morning, both kids had severe stomach aches and vomiting. My wife and I experienced the same symptoms.

Despite reporting the issue again, we were told the service team had checked during the day—but nothing improved. That night, the heater failed again. A maintenance person came around midnight but couldn’t fix it. Only after escalating again did someone finally offer to move us to a new room—at 1 a.m.

By then, our night was ruined, and our plans for the following day were completely derailed.

The staff, especially Hanna, were courteous and tried to help, but the overall response was reactive and too little, too late. We were told a refund would be issued and that the property is coordinating with Hotels.com—but as of now, we are still waiting.

This was supposed to be a peaceful and memorable getaway for our family, but it turned into a health scare. I hope this review serves as a caution for other

Fabulous glamping experience! Beautiful accommodations, tents spread far enough apart that it remains peaceful. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and eager to accommodate any requests. We needed more fire starter at 5AM and they came right out. The communal area has several table and fire pits to gather around. There was even solo musician singing last night. The stars at night are spectacular- I would highly recommend!

We had an unforgettable stay at under canvas! Their service and hospitality were incredible, so warm and welcoming and anticipated every need. We were nervous about unexpectedly low temps overnight, but they were pro’s and ensured we had everything we needed for a warm and cozy stay. We loved the design and layout of our deluxe tent, it was so comfortable and smartly laid out. The sunset view was a bonus! We loved the laid back vibe of the common areas and the starry sky view of the Milky Way on our first night in Montana is not one we will ever forget. We are already planning stays at additional under canvas properties, I think we are hooked!

Not all bad, but bad for me.

It was a disappointing stay, even though we were looking forward to staying here. The stove in the room was not working properly and smoke filled the room, causing the fire alarm to go off. Hotel employees fixed it once. The room smelled of smoke, but we were not offered a room change. Since it was cold and rainy outside, we did not request a room change. However the same problem reoccurred and the fire alarm went off again. We were afraid to use the stove and we stopped using it. We spent a very cold night and woke up freezing in the morning. My wife got sick because of the stove malfunction and could not enjoy the trip the next day. It wasn't all bad, but the stove made it a bad experience.

It was a great unique experience with the additional amenities from other glamping experiences. We loved the private bathroom with hot water and a flushable toilet, smores, lots of firewood provided, kids can run around and play. Things I wished I did: used the earplugs when I slept-I forgot with camping you can hear everything outside of your tent including crying kids and smoke alarms, stocked up on food on the first day.

This is a fantastic idea in theory, however paying $500 and NOT having electricity in West Yellowstone is absurd! It was so cold, which is not UC problem to resolve but they should have electricity and the ability to heat a tent! I paid for the Stargazing tent and the temp dropped to 30 degrees over night so all we could see was frost on the tent! Not someplace I’d spend the money and stay again.

The concept here is a fun one - and the on site staff are doing the best they can to make it enjoyable for folks.

However, Under Canvas is a complete rip off and unsafe if temperatures are very cold.

Do NOT stay here unless you are absolutely sure it will be at least 40 degrees at night, you have winter camping gear, and/or you like to pay $500 a night to freeze in your tent, hold a lever down to use the shower, and/or get up every hour to feed the stove.

This location falsely advertises heat in the tents from the wood stoves — they do not disclose until you check in (and have to sign a waiver at that point — that should be a clue but if you don’t sign, no refund for you!) that in order to keep the tent warm, you have to feed the stove every hour to hour and a half. Otherwise, it’s the same temperature it is outside. This is fine if it’s warm or even cool — but if it’s 25 degrees as it was for us, prepare to be COLD.

The property itself is picturesque but a bit dirty and disheveled overall. It’s clear that staff are doing their best but the demands are simply too much. This is the kind of place that charges $500 a night for you to then have to pay to rent a walking stick (give me a break!)

Save yourself, book elsewhere. If you want to feel like you are camping, just go camping. The only thing “glamorous” about this is the price tag to sleep in a canvas tent.

A wonderful, unique opportunity to unplug & enjoy a true glamping experience. We enjoyed our stay here. Conveniently located ~10 minutes from West Yellowstone, the staff is wonderful & accommodating, the scenery is beautiful, restaurant next door has great food, and there is plenty to do around the property in the evenings. Our only con was the cleanliness of the communal bathroom / showers - at 8 am, they were already unsanitary & could have used a deep clean. We would certainly return, but choose a tent with a private bathroom.

What an experience! This was unlike anything else we had ever done. The tents themselves were top quality and furnished with the most comfortable beds, linens, and high quality towels. The staff is friendly, available, and helpful. Upon arrival, you are immediately given a number to text and they will bring whatever you need to your tent. The amenities are top notch! If you are looking for a true \"glamping\" experience, then you need to give Under Canvas a try! We will definitely be back.
