The staff are friendly and we secured the room we wanted. The restaurant is excellent, it serves great steak!!
The hotel is very old, so things do creak a bit. Salisbury shopping isn’t the best with a few empty units.

Grade 1 listed building/hotel with a historic past close to the cathedral gate house with amazing grill restaurant with some South African dishes
Lovely happy staff nothing is to much trouble for them.
Executive room was large most comfortable bed ,sofa bed , gorgeous fireplace ,furniture,wood panelling great detail,all amenities you’d need inc iron and iron board,plenty tea and coffee with a pod machine.
Wouldn’t hesitate to stay again if visiting Salisbury and Stonehenge.

We are both professors and visited Salisbury in January 2026. We stayed one night, had dinner and enjoyed the bar in the property and breakfast served in our room --nice touch and attention to the guests, (the kitchen was going to be under renovation for a few days). The entire experience was amazing! From the attentive and friendly staff during check in, dinner, the interesting stairs --so authentic!-- and the service was incredible. Best steak ever!!! And dessert, sticky toffee pudding is a must! Friendly and attentive staff, knowledgable bar service, and the location was amazing! Our room, oh boy, we LOVED it! Very clean and organized, the tub inside the room was so relaxing. We LOVED our stay and appreciate all the attention from the owners and staff. We will definitely stay there again and recommend to anyone we know. Thank you!

The male staff member who checked was excellent, throughout the whole stay. Unfortunately there was an older man on the staff, whose abrupt attitude and inpatients was verging on being rude. Shame had two separate incidents with him during our short stay. Shame let the side down.

The breakfast layup was good. Just one criticism, If your offering yoghurt , fruit and cereals. There is a very good chance the guest might like to take advantage of the offering, before you rush out the pre ordered cooked breakfast, which my case was virtually cold once I had finished by yoghurt.
Also serving Avocado and poached eggs on thin sliced brown bread, unfortunately becomes a soggy mess.
Im not saying I didn’t enjoy what I had, but, if you check with ypur guest when you xan bring out the hot food first and serve them avocados and poached eggs on toasted sourdough would produce a nice crisp base.

No hot water or heating. Despite attempts to fix the problem by the hotel, we had to check-out and find alternate accommodation.

We understand boiler issues happen, but when the staff were questioned about it they were insistent there was not an issue.

We did subsequently receive a refund for our booking and the Owner/Director did later acknowledge that there was a problem and sorry we had to endure the consequences.

Staff were lovely. Room very clean. However, due to the age of the hotel, our bedroom windows did not close and the traffic was very noisy all night as it overlooked a main road. We also could not adjust the heating settings, as the dial was fixed. Breakfast was great, location fabulous, style very quaint.

The Chapter House was amazing. You can feel the history of the place when you visit. The modern comfort and cleanliness in such an old and historic building is nothing short of brilliant. The two rooms were furnished beautifully. Dining on site was delicious and the staff were lovely. I could see Salisbury Cathedral’s spire from my window and the cathedral is just a few short minutes walk away.

It is an old hotel (antique in fact giving it’s been operating for 800 years), so no wall are straight, floors are uneven, hallways are narrow, and there is no elevator. But the conditions are ell kept, and the staff is extremely pleasant and helpful. We would definitely stay there again

What an amazing stay at The Chapter House. Across the street from Salisbury Cathedral grounds and easy to walk to anything you need. The community that works there was amazing. Everyone was so helpful. They all went the extra mile to help make a special visit perfect. The outdoor courtyard was beautiful to sit in the morning for work. Breakfast was delicious. The character of the inn was worth it.

An excellent hotel. So close to the heart of Salisbury and so friendly. Room was excellent, comfortable bed separate bath and shower.
Restaurant was brilliant and I recommend the South African dishes.
Pre-ordered breakfast which my wife had to cancel the following morning but this was no problem.
I will definitely stay at the Chapter House on my next visit.

Character-filled very old property. The stairs are wonky, the floor is creaky, and the night door (inset into a huge wooden door, which is closed at night) is tiny. In short, you can’t miss you staying in a 16-century house. But it is comfortable (beds, showers), the breakfast is delicious, and the staff friendly.

It's not every day you can say you stayed in a 16th century hotel. Of course getting to the room is tricky unless you have balance on wonky floors & stairs. But it's character features, bit of creaky floorboards. The room was fairly modern but was surprised no telephone which I needed. Had to shut the window to sleep to cut down outside noises but not totally. Food was good, restaurant was full, staff friendly. Unique experience.

The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Food was tasy and well presented.
There was a problem with the radiators in our room, but the hotel gave us a fan heater.
There was no hook on the bathroom door. This needed to be replaced.
We had a room looking out onto the main road, but it was not noisy.
The room was beautiful, especially as we like oldy worldy furniture and atmosphere.
The Christmas decorations were all taken down by breakfast on New Year's Day, which was a shame.
Otherwise all was well. We would stay there again and reccommend The Chapter House to others.

It’s a lovely property in a very convenient location for the city centre and the rail station. The staff were brilliant! I am disabled and they were very helpful. Old, Grade II listed buildings can be a real accessibility challenge but they were as accommodating as possible and very kind. I hope to be able to return in the future.

The Chapter House is an older but charming hotel. The in house restaurant is very popular in the area, consequently you’ll need to make a reservation for dinner. Our room was comfortable and clean with all the expected amenities. The adjoining bathroom was very large and newly renovated.

Exceptional staff, exceptional food, just all around exceptional! Location is great and walkable to Salisbury Cathedral/Magna Carter and the Salisbury Market/Old George Mall. Disclaimer: The Chapter House is from the 16th century so the floors creaked and are uneven with no lift. The reception is a small desk at the bar. Overall, still has a lovely and charming stay. Only downside is we stayed one night and would've loved to stay longer.

We loved the bathroom: large bath and separate shower with good quality toiletries. Separate loo. Subtle lighting to see the way to the bathroom at night.
The only small criticism is the Sunday breakfast ran out of items that were not replenished and staff although very polite were a little over-stretched.

Almost missed the boat

Staff went out of their way to make us comfortable. One of the ladies saved the day by getting us a cab to Southampton in time for our cruise. We were going to Uber and found out there are no Ubers in Salisbury. Do not know her name but we are eternally grateful.
