This was a unique place to stay. The architecture sets it apart from most hotels. Our corner room, with two windows, was still plenty dark for quality sleep. Breakfast was good, but typical of hotels offering complimentary breakfast. We made a new friend while visiting. It provides convenient access to the city, while being blessedly quiet. We will definitely stay here again the next time that we are in town!

Very nice exterior and yet a tired interior...renovations are not fully thought out of rooms as showers do not have door and have narrow fixed panel. Vent fan did not work and door would not close as it was hitting the jam. Potential is there if attention to details were attended to.

I love that the reception area is unique and attractive and staff very friendly. I have stayed there several times and the elevator is always slow and there's only one working. Our room needed maintenance--light in bath mirror didn't work, toilet kept running after flushing, and shower was a drizzle; and TV would turn on but inoperable after that--maintenance fixed it first night but same thing happened next night so we just read a book.

I booked and paid for this room thru Expedia. When I checked in they needed my credit card for incidentals. When they ran it they charged me again for the room. This is the third time I’ve stayed there and it has happened everytime. I’ve spoke to the manager and it gets you no where. They take your money in an instant but when it’s their fault so they owe you back they tell you it takes 5-7 business days to be reimbursed. I told them when I checked out that if my money wasn’t back in my account by the afternoon I WOULD file theft charges against them. To my surprise now they can send it back immediately. You have to threaten them with police action to get your money back. I only stay there because I like the bar/restaurant in the facility. It is very nice and the staff has always been great in there but when it comes to front desk management they are the worst. Check your credit cards and bank accounts when you check in because they most likely charged you twice. This stay was the last time I will stay there. 3 times and they keep messing it up. That is too many times to not correct their short comings.

I have always said that I will make honest reviews. Although this property is beautiful, you can tell it is very old. The musty smell, the creaky floors and the grime in the pool area are some things that I noticed. Also I think it would have been nice if there was some type of staff patrolling through the building. There were many people smoking weed in the stairwell next to our room. The pool was very cold but the hot tub was great!
Now on to the good stuff! My room was clean, the staff at the front desk were very nice, and breakfast was very well stocked with lots of different choices. The decor of this hotel is also amazing. The cute little library and the animals were great. I did not go into the bar area but we did go to the ajoining restaurant. Which was amazing!
Although we will never be in this area again, if we were to this is where we would stay!

The pool area was nice and clean as well, though water temp was really cold. Our room could have been cleaner. The refrigerator had a strong smell of leftover food, and floors were not freshly cleaned. Lastly, it looked like a sliding door panel was missing from the shower so I was afraid to get water outside of the shower on the bathroom floor. That was very awkward.

The front desk lady was great both times we’ve been here. Last time we were on the 3rd floor and it wasn’t too bad, and the room was much cleaner. This time we stayed on the 1st floor, and the room was in much worse shape. The door handle was broken to the bathroom, the paint job looked fine in the dim lighting of the room, but if you had any other lighting you could see that a child would paint better. There was mold in the shower on the tiles-wiped away with a towel so it wasn’t a stain. Hair from prior guests. The general cleanliness was worse than last time, the pool area had black funk and hair buildup at the drains. Breakfast was ok, had a nice selection-waffles, sausage, biscuits and gravy, cereals, fruits-bananas had more brown and green than yellow. It was a disappointing stay even compared to our experience a year prior.

Overall, our experience was okay. However, wherever you turn, you notice little things . . . a loose shower handle, exposed nuts/bolts at the base of the toilet, etc. Simple maintenance issues that differentiate a down-at-the-heels hotel from a good property. As for room service, we never broke the code on which days our room might be made up. Better hotels tell you what you might expect at check-in. The hotel breakfast was no better or worse than that offered by the chains. On the plus side, the kitchen staff did a good job of mixing the seven or so hot dish choices so that you were not seeing the same combination on a daily basis.

The property is unique and somewhat unusual because of its distinctive design outside and inside. The interior decorative design and furniture is very interesting. The amenities are excellent, the rooms are very clean, the new mirrors with lights and new showers are wonderful, the front desk staff is kind, the bar is open to 9:00 pm and serves food, the pool and fitness room are spectacular, and their breakfast is great. The hotel had a sign out front welcoming the Special Olympics but it wasn’t very accommodating. The elevator closet to our room was out of order and parking was limited. The pool was only accessible by a ladder to get in and out of so it was impossible for my daughter to get in and out of by herself and they did not have the chair lift. The hot tub had a brown film in it. The walls were paper thin and we could hear everything and heard and felt thumps all night. Breakfast was ok, tasted like everything was instant. There was a hinge in a cabinet that needed to be e repaired ( reported but not fixed). Exhausted fan didn’t work in bathroom. Good in the morning gwas ok. The place you eat it in obviously needs decoration. I felt I was eating in a shed. Here’s the biggest issue. They do NOT clean the rooms unless you specifically ask for iyt to be done a day in advance. Please read that again. We weren’t told that when we checked in. We were wondering so finally we went down and asked. I asked 2 different folks and both said (probably trained to say this) “we are a different type of place”. This hotel just put lipstick on a pig. The hotel is nicely updated while still maintaining the fun charm of a chateau with its antique furniture in the common areas. The front desk staff were very friendly. The breakfast was ok, it would be helpful if they had labels on the closed food dishes.
As far as the room, it was clean and comfortable enough for a decent night sleep. It was odd that the microwave and refrigerator were in the bedroom and not the butlers pantry area, however, everything worked so it wasn’t a big deal. The toilet was not installed properly, however, and rocked when anyone sat on it. There was only one small towel hook in the entire room/bathroom, which was not convenient since the room is listed as accommodating four guests. We ended up hanging towels in the closet. Also, the walls and hall doors must be very thin because we heard “neighbors” talking and snoring sporadically throughout the night.
Overall, the hotel was a good value for travelers on a budget and we plan to stay here again.

Pros- The pool and hot tub were great and the staff was super nice and helpful. (Gave us extra pillows and towels) Breakfast was good as well. Cons-There was no microwave in the room even though it says clearly on the website there was supposed to be a microwave. Also there's no exhaust fan in the bathroom so any time someone went number 2 the whole room filled up with THAT odor. That was unpleasant. The beds were terribly uncomfortable I barely slept all night and the pillows looked and felt like they came from a dollar store. Probably won't stay here again because of the cons outnumbering the pros. (I always look forward to a nice hotel bed with nice pillows so that was disappointing to me personally.)

The shower was odd. There is no shower door so we had to put towels down so the floor didnt get soaked. Also, we couldn't use half of our outlets. If you plugged anything in, they would pop and spark. Breakfast was from 7-10 and when we went down at 830 they only had limited items everything else was gone. Granted they were hosting the ms Illinois pageant but you'd think that would have been taken into consideration. The staff was nice. Pleasant to talk to and offered to switch our room, but honestly I probably wont stay here again. The reason we chose this hotel was for the hot tub, and while we recognize you cant have it to yourself, it was a free-for-all for the kids. Saturday night at 10:30 pm and there were 9 kids under the age of 8 in the hot tub. I seen quite a few adults turn around and leave.

Rough that some hands-off parents let kids roam around sometimes late at night and mess things up - seemed like some kids dumped coffee in the pool or something. Hopefully quick clean up but wow parents - do better please, maybe the cameras will show who deserves an extra fee on their bill $$.

Great spot in town with easy walking to many things nearby. Appreciated the senior staff being on site helping out with bartending & management. Fun group and hope it continues to improve and be a mainstay for Central Illinois :-).

I’ve stayed here many times and have always liked the hotel. However this time the room we were in was recently renovated. It was not done properly. Also it was dirty. Dust and fingerprints on everything. Low water pressure. Just not happy this time. I will be seeking other accommodations in the future.
