I am extremely disappointed with my stay at Riu Ocho Rios. I expected a premium all-inclusive experience, but it felt more like a 2-star resort and was not worth the money.

Check-in was scheduled for 3:00 PM, but we waited nearly two additional hours because our room wasn’t ready. We didn’t get into our room until almost 5:00 PM, wasting a large part of our first day.

The room appeared to have been cleaned in a rush. The pillowcases and bed sheets had stains, the blanket was old and worn, and the couch was dirty, stained, and smelled unpleasant. The towels and washcloths smelled like mildew, the bed only had two flat, uncomfortable pillows, and the TV would not connect to Netflix.

Another inconvenience was the lack of an ATM in the main lobby. We had to walk about 20 minutes to a neighboring resort just to get cash.

I’ve stayed at the Riu in Falmouth, and the difference was night and day. That property was cleaner, the staff was friendlier, and the overall experience was far better.

For the price paid, I expected much more. I hope management reviews my experience, contacts me, and provides appropriate compensation. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Riu Ocho Rios based on my stay.

Building 4 which is a half mile from the main lobby and restaurants has NO elevator! We really did not want to climb two flights of stairs multiple times per day while on vacation, so we had to limit trips back to the room. Imagine the task for the bellmen with having to carry up and down all bags! Also, this building is near the water park and has the so called superior suites but beware with only 1 bathroom! Daily calls had to made to get enough towels/wash cloths because house keeping would only leave enough for 4 in a room with 6 persons. And worst of all, was having to line up and wait over for 30 minutes to get food, especially by Pepe's. That was not relaxing! There was only 1 person working the jerk grill and there was no choice but to wait because the food had ran out just before your turn!

This was my first time at a resort and it really set the bar high on looks alone. The food was good especially the buffet and asian cuisine buffet! The staff was always kind and friendly. The views of beach were amazing. The events were great they have many throughout the day that you can pick to your choosing. Overall im very satisfied with my experience and would do it again. In the future if i see any more RIU resorts in other countries im booking with them.

I spent most of my time on the beach which was well maintained, beautiful and lengthy enough to give everyone their own space even though the hotel was full at the time I went. The Hotel itself was clean and well kept. Staff was mixed. Some friendly some had attitude. The biggest complaint was the food. Buffet doesnt change much. If you want something different you have to go to specialty restaurants.
Activities for kids was a lacking too. My kids got bored after a few days. Not much to do for kids.kids club seemed to never be open. And slides got boring when having to do every day. It was a medium stay. Not bad but not great either. Wouldnt want to come back again.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay; however, I believe there is an opportunity to improve the guest arrival experience.

Upon arrival, I did not receive enough information to help me become familiar with the resort, its amenities, or how to navigate the property. I requested assistance with my luggage and observed the manager direct a staff member to assist me, but unfortunately no one came.

One of my biggest frustrations was learning on my own that restaurant reservations had to be made through an app. This was never explained during check-in, nor was I informed that I needed to download the app. As a result, I was unable to dine at my preferred restaurant on my first evening and had to choose from the limited options that were available.

I also noticed another guest having difficulty locating the correct elevator to access her room. Since I was still unfamiliar with the property myself, I was unable to assist her.

For a resort of this size, I believe guests would benefit from a brief orientation upon arrival. This could be provided either by resort staff or a representative from Expedia. A simple overview of the property, dining reservation process, key amenities, and directions would help guests feel welcomed and allow them to enjoy their stay from the very beginning.

Despite these challenges, I enjoyed my overall stay and appreciate the efforts of the staff.

The property was beautiful and well maintained. We stayed in the two bedroom, one bath building. The rooms were nice but unfortunately the building was on the backside of the resort by the water park and offered no nice views of the pools, beaches, or ocean. The only disappointment with the resort was the the “teen room”, the hours were never followed as posted and when my son was actually able to get in there, he was met with rudeness from the staff members. He told me about it, so I went back with him, only to find out everything that was posted about the space, for the kids to enjoy themselves, was broken or missing. The gaming tables were broken but when the staff member opened the locked cabinet, all items were inside for the kids to enjoy themselves with but the staff members didn’t want the kids to play with them, quite odd in my opinion. The staff just wanted to use the space as a relaxing, air conditioned space so they didn’t have to work outside, IMO.

The pools were fun, the waterslides were good except they’re closed on Tuesday. The staff was very kind to adults, but not so kind to teens and kids. The food was good. The rooms had spotty service. I would get service for two days in a row, but then they would only bring me two towel towels and no shower mat. It was very clean. The atmosphere was very loud. If you’re looking for a peaceful place to stay, this is not it. There is nowhere to escape the noise, but if you want to party day and night, this is the place for you. You are expected to pay a tip to every staff member. The gift shop is expensive. They do not have an EpiPen on hand. The nurse charges $55 just to tell you she can’t do anything for you. There are sales people around every corner asking if you want to go on trips, have a massage, have your picture taken, take a taxi, etc. The activities they provided would often start a half hour to one hour late, but they were fun. The entertainment staff was a lot of fun.

One of the elevators was out of service , so it left 1 working . Would have been nice to have towel service and possibly a few drink huts on the beach too . Food is adequate and drinks made nicely . I probably would not bring young kids if I had them as it gets very adult like . I enjoyed most of the evening shows they provided as well

I enjoyed my stay at this location however I had a problem with my room and I needed to change rooms. We did not get a room until after 4pm. Once we realized that there was an issue. I immediately went back to check if there was another room. We were told no but we can check back the next day. They were able find us another room the following day but we need to check out at 12 and leave our belongings in storage until another room was available which was not until after 4pm. There was over 4 hours of sitting around in the lobby waiting for a room.
I felt that this could have been handled better. They could’ve allowed us to leave our belongings in the “Unacceptable” room until another room was instead of having us hang out in the lobby for 4 hours.
The staff was very helpful however I felt that the situation was handled poorly.

I recently stayed at RIU Ocho Rios and had a great experience. The resort was beautiful, clean, and well-maintained. The staff was friendly, professional, and always willing to help. The food offered plenty of variety, and the restaurants were excellent. The beach was stunning, with clear water and plenty of space to relax.

The entertainment team did a great job keeping guests engaged with activities throughout the day and fun shows at night. The rooms were comfortable and clean, and the overall atmosphere was welcoming and enjoyable.

I would definitely recommend RIU Ocho Rios to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation in Jamaica. I look forward to visiting again in the future!

Our first experience at the resort was with the front desk staff Allia, she was very miserable not at all helpful. As a first time visitor at this resort we didn’t get any information from this particular staff . She was not even making any eye contact while talking and talk in a very low tone, if we ask her to repeat it she just ignored it and continued her speech

I was looking for a trip where I don’t have to think too much and the kids entertained and fed w out me planning. It all worked out well here!

Activities at night both family and for adult reggae bands , beach party, white party, and dance parties - jerk chicken hot grill delicious everyday

Food plenty and huge variety culturally and fruit and desserts.
Breakfast buffet the best
The sit down restaurants a bit underwhelming- Italian restaurant my fam thought was best

Outdoor pools, beach lounge area and water slides are great - rec t shirt for water slides no Matt’s and skin on back can get scratches

Also would love if the resort can provide more shade for sunbathing and lounging by the pool at the activity pool and beach chair lounge options w or shade - winds were high most of the ( red flag) so prob why no umbrellas in beach but can try an alternative

Sun was intense in May and diff to find an umbrella unless come out at 10 am .
Having said that the place was not overly crowded in May !
We would come back for sure.

I have been at better all-inclusive resorts than Riu Ocho Rios. They advertise 24/7 all inclusive resort. That is false advertising, no room service. There are very few employees that are pleasant with customers at the restaurants. When I checked in I asked if the two rooms were had conjoining doors and I was told yes but they were not. Building 4 is the building for families and there is no elevator so you have to carry your luggage up 2 flights of stairs, because front desk said we can just take our luggage. In one of the rooms the weather stripping was falling off and the door wouldn’t latch closed. In other room the toilet wouldn’t flush. There was ants and bugs in both rooms because the weather stripping was not existent on bottom of doors. Life Guard at pool was rude. He wasn’t even sitting in his chair where he could see pool, it was windy and one of the girls was spraying on sun screen and he told her she needed to walk away from pool to spray on sunscreen rather than him moving to where he should be sitting. Overall I would never stay at this hotel again. Paid a lot of money for this trip and don’t think the accommodations were worth what I paid.

I stayed there many moons ago when it was brand new and it was very nice. I went there about 10 years ago and it was very rundown. My most recent stay was very nice. The place was upgraded and it looked very nice and very modern. The staff was pretty nice. The only thing I didn’t like was check-in was at 3pm and my room wasn’t ready until 5:45 PM. Also, I had a problem with my toilet where it wasn’t flushing and I called and it took like 40 minutes for somebody to show up.

Staff were lukewarm generally, a few genuinely nice servers - shout out to Phelesha Collins the young lady that was humble and genuine with her service at Mandalay restaurant. Please congratulate her for being consistent, friendly and professional. She ensured I was taken care of. I watched her with other guests and saw that it was not different between foreigner or local. A very pleasant young lady. I am concerned on whether you are treating your staff well. Phelesa a generous tip has been provided for you. Thank you for your service.

I've stayed at this hotel before, I thoroughly enjoyed it. This time at the age of 71 I was placed on 5th floor. Half a mile from everything. Views was EXCELLENT. I like the room, was too tired to go back to reception to change rooms. We were told to go up the ramp and take the lift. This brought us to the other side. We had to walk all the way round to our room. After how many hours of travelling. We had no energy left to sort out room.
Also the room number on the paper work says H and then the number. We were never told the number. We had to ask. We were not given a ticket for towels. We had to come back from the towel station to reception to get a towel card.

Majority of the staff was pleasant.

Gate personnel and car park attendant was excellent.
Grounds immaculate.
Food was ok.

Guest do not abide by the dress code in the self serve dining area. They sit on the chairs with bare skin. A lot of guest has little clothing on their thighs. No one cleans it when they leave. Is this ok. Or am I missing something here.

The jerk hut was my favourite place. only problem I had to wait over 30 minutes each day to be served. I am over 70 and they should give priority to the seniors. Although the food was very nice there. The salad runs out very quickly, salad as in lettuce.
Beach was clean and very enjoyable.
Bar staff excellent.
Room cleaning was excellent. Except for some tiny ants on the wall by the coffee machine.
Entertainment was ok.
I may stay again.

Excellent Vibes, but Check Your Photo Prints Early!
We recently stayed at the Riu in Montego Bay and had an absolutely wonderful vacation. I would easily give it a 5-star rating if it wasn’t for a frustrating issue on our final morning.
The Good:
Everything about the resort itself was excellent. The food was delicious with plenty of variety, the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, and the overall vibes were just amazing. It’s a great place to relax and have a fun, memorable time.
The Catch:
On our last night, we paid for some last-minute professional pictures. We were assured that the printed photos would be left at the front desk for us when we checked out the next morning. Unfortunately, when we went to check out, the prints were nowhere to be found, and the resort photo shop was closed. We had to leave for the airport without the photos we paid for.
Despite the photo mix-up, we loved the resort, the energy, and the staff. We would definitely recommend it.

I came as a solo trip, it felt very safe and staff were helpful throughout my trip. Food was amazing, i’m jamaican and highly recommend trying cultural food while on vacation rather than your normal eggs and pancakes. This place has it all!! Kids zones, adult zones, and even teenager zones. We ate at the steak house and the Asian Restaurant and both were very tasty. Make sure to download the RIU app to make reservations and see their event calendar while your there. I would definitely recommend this place if your wanting a more up beat vacation.

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. I went solo for the first time. The staff was wonderful. They were very clean. Beach view was lovely. They was lot drink enjoyed Bob Marley, Rum punch, etc.The food was excellent. I went to the pool a couple times. That was nice. Also, overall I enjoyed my stay for somebody who went by themselves. Just loved it.

on day 2/4 we realized there was a leak in our room. i called the front desk they said they’d have someone come take a look and have us in a new room the next day. nobody came to see about the leak. the next morning the entire toilet over flowed and flooded our ENTIRE room, and into the hallway. belongings were soaked in toilet water and piss. they move with no urgency & expect u to just accept what they are willing to offer. i would NEVER come back here. & i have video footage of everything!
