The hotel was beautiful, the staff gracious and professional, and the food, amazing!! We mostly ate at the buffet the whole time we were there because the food was amazing, great options and the waitstaff especially Ms Charlene was just wonderful!!!

I booked a Double Room with an Ocean View (U), expecting a clear, direct view of the ocean based on past experiences. Instead, the view was very limited—you had to lean out just to see the ocean. At check-in, I was told this is considered “ocean view,” while a direct view is labeled “oceanfront.” No alternatives or changes were offered, and it was presented as my misunderstanding.

Afterward, I found that other guests have had similar experiences, so this seems to be a common practice. Overall, this was disappointing and felt misleading compared to what I’ve experienced at other hotels. Clearer descriptions (or more flexibility at check-in) would go a long way in avoiding this kind of frustration.

Trying to put out an honest review here. Most of the reviews I’ve read haven’t been close to accurate, but overall this is a lower level family resort. You see all kinds of people here. Some who get dressed up for dinner and some who are apparently allergic to shirt sleeves. It gives cruise ship vibes. Tipping seems to follow the clothing choices. We tipped $3 every meal and a buck on most drinks.

So drinks. No top shelf here. All well liquors. The local rum is Appleton estate and probably what to go with if you can. Lots of frozen sugar stuff too. We have 3 kids so they got a kick out of being able to order those.

Food. Not great, but a few things were very good. Hit and miss by the day. The RIU app and booking the “restaurants” is a total scam. The restaurants are only open 2-2.5 hours, and the seating is extremely limited. You have to use the app to book and do it 2 days in advance so effectively you miss out on non-buffet dinner the 1st 2 days you are there. And calling the steak place a steak place should be a criminal charge.

The beach. The sargassum was terrible the first half of the week the beach was covered and disgusting. They cleaned it up Wednesday and then it was great. No waves at the beach but the water was warm and clear and easily the best part of the resort.

The service. Everything through the app, so it was pretty bad. Most island people are happy you are spending your money with them. Not here. This resort is turn and burn with lots of bad attitudes.

It was obvious that some staff we annoyed with whatever job they had to do but most of them were very pleasant. The other major issue was some guest kept leaving cups and plates (some wirh food still on it) all over the place. There were garbage bins everywhere with containers beside them to put your plates etc in for the staff to grab them. For example you could go to a smoking area and there would be several plates and cup just sitting in the tables or chairs. Overall though it was really good.

Top notch housekeeping. Always had an abundance of towels and a clean room.

Reservations were tough. Like we could only get 8:30 times the whole week we were there.

No service at the pool. No lobby drink service. I’ve been to 10 all-inclusives in various countries and have never not had pool or lobby service.

The check in process was horrendous. 1:10 min waiting in line. After a long day of travel, this was brutal. Even not having someone greet you or help you with your bags was a turn off.

No where to get food, snacks outside of restaurant service unless you were buying something from the gift shop. Most times the Sports Bar was empty of snacks or treats, they said they had.
No room service.

The resort was ok. We had a great week together. But I would not come back to this resort. Very meh.

too crowded and need more help there and people at desk needs to supply with all information at the time of check in no one is there to help you with your luggage to take to room and always have excuses for everthing so my first time at RIU and not that great of an experience. Any way will think about going back not sure

Property is huge. A lot of walking. Beach is perfect and clean, lots of chairs. Poolside is ridiculous with people reserving beach chairs at 6am. Hard to find a quiet and relaxing spot, feels way too busy with commotion for us.

The stay was excellent after I arrived. The issues came beforehand. My flight was canceled the day I meant to arrive, and apparently there is a policy which cancels reservations if you show up late and do not give notice. When attempting to notify the resort, i was completely unable to reach anybody who could help, even after trying multiple phone numbers and email addresses. Responses ranged from "we can't help you, try this number" and giving me the same number I had just called to simply not picking up the phone. Emails myself and Expedia sent went completely unacknowledged, and this whole experience was incredibly stressful and significantly impacted my experience.

Rooms are very clean, however the decor and furniture is a bit dated and in need of an update. Common areas were quite breathtaking and well designed and decorated.

My very first experience with an all inclusive resort and definitely recommend this location.

Overall we had a great experience. the food was amazing, the rooms were clean, the beach is beautiful, and most of the staff were friendly and helpful. The only issue was our toilet not flushing; although we reported it several times and it wasn’t repaired, after the fifth visit to customer service we were moved to a new room, which we appreciated. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay.

Not much to say, just amazing! One super plus was kids water park that has legit kids pool with several slides. As well as an indoor park that is big with plenty for kids to do.

Onsite activities: 4/5
Always something fun going on, seems like they book truly talented acts, plan fun games, and extremely well produced.

Staff/customer service: 3.5/5
For the most part, staff are super friendly and helpful. Not consistent though. Other staff were pretty bland or sometimes friendly but would say they would do something and then just not do it.

Room: 4/5
The room we booked was clean, very spacious, comfortable stay. Felt like our bed still had some sand on it after we left, and the floor felt sandy at times too after they cleaned.

Food: 3/5
Food was pretty inconsistent. Certain dishes such as the jerk chicken, hasbrowns, or ice cream were always a win. But other dishes would be pretty bland . Kind of a hit or miss.

Upon arrival, we were told our rooms weren’t ready when checking in and had to wait about 2 hours. When the room was finally ready, we opened the door to see we were given the wrong room. It was booked for 2 double beds with garden view but only given one. Went to the front desk to correct the situation to be told there wasn’t any more double bedrooms available that day. Instead they could only offer to change my room from garden view on the 3rd floor to a ground floor facing nothing. Front desk employees shrugged their shoulders and told me there was no other option. It was a complete mess and we were not accommodated at all. Also, when the time came for excursions, there was barely any transportation to and from the resort. Prices were made on the spot by drivers if where you wanted to go wasn’t listed or if your party was bigger. Dinner reservations were booked up before we even arrived on the property and we did not get to get a dinner reservation till Sunday even though we had arrived Friday morning. The steakhouse was booked for my parties dinner and had issues once again. The customer service desk told us how to book it for a group just to get to dinner and have our party of 7 at three different tables. A manager came and tried his best to fix the situation but food was late and we were told at the end of our dinner waiting on dessert that we wouldn’t be getting any the kitchen was now closed. The entire stay was issue after issue.

Resort is great, some rooms not updated. Great layout, pools, etc. Beach is beautiful (did have seaweed when we were there) and very calm waves which is good for children. Kids play area and splashpad were also very nice! Staff was amazing and rooms were cleaned daily very well. The à la carte restaurants were not very great and did not offer cocktails. The main buffet was great and had a good variety but often very busy. The biggest issue is the lack of premium liquor and not much to do around the area if you want to leave the resort.

Very good overall. Only few downsides: resort was completely full, but staff kept everything flowing smoothly. Original assigned room was notably run down with poor view, but within 2 days were able to exchange for much better room for no charge. Very good room house keeping, and also staff work hard to keep all spaces clean throughout resort. Great beach area, pools, and waterpark. Overall, food is average.

We really enjoyed our stay, even though the weather wasn’t ideal, with cloudy skies and temperatures around 65–70 degrees— not the best for enjoying the pools or the beach. The rooms were clean and spacious, the property was well maintained, and the staff were friendly and provided great service. The food was consistently good, and I especially enjoyed the buffet, particularly the local dishes.

My stay at the RIU Resort in Ocho Rios was very disappointing. Customer service was extremely poor from the moment we arrived. We waited over two hours for our room and then an additional hour for our luggage to be delivered, which never happened. We eventually had to retrieve our bags ourselves.
Upon arrival, no one assisted us with our luggage from the car, and no staff member provided any orientation or information about the resort amenities, restaurants, or services. We were left to figure everything out on our own.
This trip was meant to celebrate a birthday. I made a request during booking for a simple birthday acknowledgment—such as a door decoration or even a slice of cake—but nothing was done, and no one followed up. The request went completely ignored, which was extremely disappointing and took away from what should have been a special occasion.
The food selection was very limited and poor in quality. When we called for room service one evening, we were told there was no room service available and that we needed to go to the buffet area to get food ourselves.
Overall, this experience did not meet expectations, and I do not plan on returning to the RIU Ocho Rios location.

Poor customer service, lack of assistance, ignored special requests, limited food options, and overall disorganization.

The room was cleaned, the bathroom had a few hairs in it on the sink and toilet. Some of the staff were very selective about who to be nice too. They seemed extremely prejudiced. There were lots of bees around the outside bar so it was difficult to stay around. The bartenders were also selective about who would get served first. The food was cold at times. The baked goods seemed to be the same everyday. Not too many options as the menu never changed. Based on the taste of the food. They have many different chefs preparing the same food items daily.

The food was great every day. There was plenty to do close to the resort.
As a guest of several other resorts, the only thing I’d advise is that more staff is needed, especially in the buffet section. I waited for water consistently. I’d rather get to know the servers, place them in the same section each day.

Upon check in we were asked to pay $606.96 USD for my 10 year old son. Whereas while booking through Expedia (Canada) we had clearly added my 10 year old and paid for it upon booking. We showed our booking confirmation to the receptionist but she refused to help! After a long exhausting flight when you just want to get into your room and relax, we were pressed to pay the charges.
We opened the case with Expedia and they have been trying to the reach the hotel for clarification on that particular charge but the hotel refuses to respond or reply back to Expedia (email proof available from Expedia)
