If I could, I'd give the property 4.2 stars. First. It's a beach hotel, so I always give some latitude because maintaining a property under those conditions is difficult.
Pluses:
Location: You're a 5 minute drive to Doran Beach ($8 day use) and 7 minutes to Salmon Creek Beach (which we preferred).

View: Lovely view of the Bay.

Design choices. Clearly going for modern design but if felt like a huge empty room with two beds. Lots of unused space and walls.
There's Keurig in the room, but no water provided. You have to go outside to a fairly sketchy looking machine for water. I just filled the container with ice and let it melt overnight.
Negatives:
I'm not keen on the no staff on site after hours. I'm not comfortable with the security of the entry to room by code. My daughter asked, "how often do you think they change the codes?" These are personal preferences. Also, clearly, they've remodeled the property, and if you drive all the way around the parking lot, you can see piles of debris that was removed (a water heater, and drywall etc) Tacky and unsightly. Also, they've remodeled with home-depot style fixtures (I have the exact bathroom faucet cabinet in our guest bathroom), which I don't think will stand up to wear and tear.
Recommend: Captain Davey's (5 minute walk) for coffee and/or ice cream. Limited hours. And there are several souvenir and restaurants just north of the hotel, by car.

The location of Hotel Dega is hard to beat. You can walk right from the property along the Bird Walk that borders the bay all the way to the beach and the ocean. The rooms are beautifully decorated, each with a lovely private patio, and they’re dog-friendly, which was a huge plus for us. We especially enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub and gathering around the outdoor fire in the evenings. During our stay, we saw deer, a fox, and an incredible variety of birds. It’s also conveniently located within walking distance of restaurants and shops, making it easy to explore Bodega Bay without having to drive.

My granddaughter and I stayed here two nights and very much enjoyed our stay. The hotel is within walking distance of very good restaurants, a beautiful little walking path, and a short drive from other restaurants and the marina. We loved how every room faced the ocean, beautiful views, and each had their own balcony, are very roomy. I would stay here again.

The receptionist directed me to open the staff supply closet to get two bars of soap for our room so she didn’t have to walk the ten feet to do so herself. There was no curtains on the windows, and none of the staff understood what curtains were, so we couldn’t be helped. Worst $400 I ever spent for a single night, and was also charged $50 for early check in.

Overall it was a nice place to stay. We’d stay again. Just a few small problems. Check in was a little off. We never received the text with the door code or information about our stay. Luckily the front desk person was still there when we checked in. She insisted we were checked in already and have the code to our room. When I told her that we never got the text she said to check again. Never received anything. It took a bit to figure out how to get the electric fireplace (heat) to work. It was really cold to start. Maybe there was instructions in the info we should have received in the text?

Disappointing. Bathroom fan did not work, no shampoo, and luggage rack holder was broken. Looked like minimal renovations were done, mostly cosmetic. Very noisy! You could hear people upstairs walking around, sounded like a herd of elephants. Also housekeeping staff were loading up their carts, talking loud, and banging things around in the morning. So much for sleeping in. Do not recommend for the price.

Our room wasn’t clean when we arrived. The floor was dirty and the bed wasn’t made and still had dirty sheets on it. There were dirty towels left by the previous occupants on the bathroom floor and trash was still in the waste baskets in the room. There was nobody there in the lobby to speak to in order to get clean sheets put on the bed and the A.I. message and call center did not help us. Very disappointing stay.

The constant AI texts were intrusive. I would much prefer humans being employed and to be bothered less. The walls are super thin and I could hear my neighbor pace and step on a creaking board until 3am. Nobody was in the office for check out. The hot tub was warm but not hot enough/ Given the cold, you should've been able to see significant steam off of it and it just felt warm. Also, it had toilet paper in it. The room was clean which was the best saving grace. I will not stay here again.

The hotel is in a great location newly renovated The front desk person, Heidi, was super nice and helpful. Accessing the room was easy with code. Didn’t realize there wasn’t automatic room service. Needed clean towels and replenished toiletries so I asked twice quick response and apology but nothing. Not a big deal just went and asked for fresh towels and some soap. Around 5ish a front desk lady knocked but asked about a coffee maker working? There is a new keurig in the room so maybe she mixed up the rooms—anyways it was strange.

Also the wood and tile floors were too cold to walk on, had to always wear socks. This would be a 5 Star rating except for the check in process. I was unable to register online so they told me the staff would help me when I got there but there was no staff. Several advertised amenities were not available. The hot tub was not working, there was no coffee available in the rooms, and the gym was closed, which was frustrating since these were reasons I chose this hotel. Overall, the lack of basic comfort, cleanliness issues, and unavailable amenities made this a terrible experience. I would not stay here again.

The hot tub was not working, there was no coffee available in the rooms, and the gym was closed, which was frustrating since these were reasons I chose this hotel. Overall, the lack of basic comfort, cleanliness issues, and unavailable amenities made this a terrible experience. I would not stay here again.
