We loved staying here! My girlfriend and I stayed here on New Year's Eve and had a great stay. The inn is quaint and quiet, which made for a really pleasant way to ring in the new year. The room we had was very comfortable and unique. We drank wine at the wine bar in the lobby for most of our evening, and sat by the fireplace in our room for the rest of the time. Breakfast in the morning was really tasty as well, with a lot of different options. We would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a peaceful stay in a real gem of Sonoma County.

This place is beautiful, charming, and in a great location! Plus, it’s dog-friendly! If you’re a Gilmore Girls fan, you’ll definitely get a Stars Hollow vibe. The drive up to the inn was really cool with lots of tall trees that made you feel like you were in a forest. There is a quaint little main street with two convenience stores and a few restaurants, one of which was fantastic for breakfast! (Separate review for Howard’s Cafe.) We booked the Ivory room, and the rooms are reasonably priced. Our room was on the second floor and small but had some cute little armchairs in front of a fireplace and a wall A/C which was super useful for the warm or humid parts of the day. The view was of trees and the other parts of the property, so it felt private. The bathroom had a standing shower with pumps of body wash, shampoo, and conditioner on the shower wall. The place had old charm was but was clean and cozy. My only thing was that the bed was FIRM, which isn’t great for people with back issues. There also is only one mirror in the bathroom, so you’ll need to bring a smaller one for up-close face things. Otherwise, it was great! The inn is in the perfect location between the coast and wine country, so you can spend a few days and get the best of both worlds! Speaking of wine, the inn has wine tasting from 4pm to 7pm on the main level on a lovely outdoor patio, which we didn’t end up doing this trip, but will do next time. Highly recommended!

Weekend Escape
This was the perfect place for a Fall weekend escape. From checking in, to the simple breakfast, to checking out. The local town was fun to explore on many levels with shops and various restaurants. It was just mellow....the antidote to a busy week.

Lovely inn with great service. We were in the Sugar Room, which is ADA compliant and has a door leading directly to the patio. Many places to go locally and some excellent restaurants in the area. We liked that Occidental is lesser known as a tourist destination, so not so crowded.

Front check in woman was rude and basically lied about why an early check in was impossible. She stated that the workers are loud and would leave at 3pm, which they did not, the lower courtyard needed to be blown which that did not happen. She stated that she was unaware that I had a dog, it was stated on Expedia. Overall, a very unpleasant greet and welcome. Would not recommend this place primarily due to this woman!

The room and the property was outstanding. One word of caution, the shower has no grab bars and the shower tile floor is VERY slippery. Everything else was very nice.

Best place in town to stay! Up the hill from all the people and traffic. Our faucet leaked a lot and caused some issues. Bed was a tad worn. However you cannot beat the ladies who run the place! A cute place to stay in the small little town of Occidental. Staff are so friendly and helpful, and have lots of recommendations on things to do. Breakfast was delicious. It was a disappointing stay for us. The hotel looked charming from the outside, within walking distance to the quaint town of Occidental, however our room was in dire need of updating. The wall paint was stained and had chipped paint, the carpets looked worn out and stained as well. The adjuster on one of the blinds was broken so you had to open / close the blinds with the broken end. The wood stove, not fully functional I guess, was covered in dust and sitting on a dusty floor as well.
We enjoyed the wine hour, they were generous with the pour. Breakfast was nothing special, just decent enough.
We will not be back for sure. This property does not justify the nightly rates.

Magical Weekend
My girlfriend and I had a magical experience at the Inn at Occidental this weekend. The Inn fits somewhere between a lodge, and a cozy B&B. The toen of Occidental is storybook, with some warm restaurants and unique stores....and the location is perfect for beauty (near the giant redwoods), the ocean and virtually unlimited tasting at some of the wineries anywhere. The beauty of the area is astounding....and the people are even better! If you haven't visited this area, add it to your bucket list!

My husband and I celebrated our 26 year anniversary at this beautiful B and B and we are planning on going back for a longer stay. The staff is very friendly and they make you feel at home. The courtyard with the water fountain and beautiful plants and flowers are so relaxing and peaceful. The porch was also a great place to relax. Occidental is beautiful and has great restaurants 😁

The stay was relaxing. A decent 20 minutes out from Bodega Bay, however the path in and out of occidental is lined by beautiful relaxing coastal trees, and has a great small town feel. Bars and restaurants near walking distance to the Inn, and free wine hour make for a relaxing stay with good hospitality after a day full of activities.

The inn is quaint, beautiful and charming. I can not say enough about this little gem we found. Attention to detail everywhere. It’s decorated for the holidays right now so it feels extra special. Kind, funny staff at the front desk. This is now one of our top five places to take a staycation! We will be back!

We had booked a king room, when we arrived we were told the room had flooded (which we understand is out of their control) and we were moved to a queen room. That was disappointing in itself, but the bigger problem was that the queen bed was on a low slated bed frame with no box spring and the mattress was like a futon. Very uncomfortable. The two chairs in the room were both so old that there was no cushion left, so there wasn’t anywhere to comfortably sit. We were offered no compensation because we were told that “the queen room was an upgrade because there was a jetted tub”. We would never use a jetted tub in a hotel, so it actually just took up much needed space. We felt the nightly rate was too expensive for the accommodations. We would not choose to stay here again.

Though the room and shared spaces were all quite nice, and the aged motifs may be part of the inns charm - they could all use a bit of spiffing up.

When I went to the front desk to return my key, and sign a checkout sheet (as requested), the front desk person directed me to a line just below the signature line and said, “ this is we’re you leave the tip. We all share it”.
Feeling a little shocked at her forwardness, I explained I left a cash tip in room for the cleaners.
Then, feeling a bit Uncomfortable, proceeded to leave an additional tip in the line she indicated. I felt put on the spot.
With the price of the room, It seems the forwardness in regards to tipping was a bit inappropriate.
If a service charge is going to be requested/expected - it would be in better taste for the Inn to simply add a 20% suggested service-appreciation tip to the check on the front end.
It’s a shame that brief interaction tainted my stay.

Our stay was nice. The Inn is beautiful. There were a couple of small issues:
Trash - nobody picking it up from our rooms and no easily accessible trash bin for us to dump into. We brought our dog with us and we needed to keep the trash out of her reach so she wouldn't get the food scraps.

Overall we completely enjoyed ourselves - just a couple of bumps. The staff was very gracious and helpful and I would stay with them again. Hopefully they will be able to find a few employees and a new chef so they can start their breakfast program again.
Trash - nobody picking it up from our rooms and no easily accessible trash bin for us to dump into. We brought our dog with us and we needed to keep the trash out of her reach so she wouldn't get the food scraps.

A truly home like atmosphere prevails! The staff is very dedicated. Offering assistance at every turn. Jeannette attended to a scrumptious breakfast as if it were her own home. Whenever we ran into Jerome he asked how we were doing. So sincere and authentic! The Inn is quiet and quaint. It’s a perfect location for so many area places to explore.

Love the grounds, so beautiful. The large tub is amazing and got a lot of use. I also enjoyed the fireplace, made the stay more cozy. We enjoyed getting out of the house for sure. However, they NEED NEW BEDS. Please owners, read the reviews and see you need new beds. I will only stay a night next time bcuz second day was bad. Also, just do coffee in the AM, there's great hot breakfast up the street. Breakfast is not needed when it's cold, just makes you want to get hot breakfast. :)

Highly recommended for couples. Innkeeper is very friendly and accommodating. Themed room (Sonoma Lodge) was very spacious, recently renovated, quiet, comfortable, and clean. We stayed for my boyfriend’s birthday and everything was incredible. They emailed me before hand to see if I wanted to have anything special and had champagne and a cheese board waiting for us, Jerome gave us wine at check in and during wine hour, we got a free upgrade and the food was incredible. This is a great place to stay! Marilyn was wonderful and exceptionally accommodating. The room was immaculate and extremely comfortable. It was very cold outside and I was warm and cozy inside. I am not a big breakfast eater but Jerome made me a delicious baked pear with yogurt and nuts and the best gluten free bread I have ever had for toast. Thank you both for an exceptionally pleasant stay!
