Cozy place to rest and enjoy the nature at the same time. The hotel is in front of the river which makes you have a beautiful view always. The free breakfast is really good! In addition, the restaurant of the hotel has an amazing chef whom makes all the food delicious.The German couple made this place magical. Totally recommend!

Charm! Charm! Charm! From the moment I drove up in the driving rain, until pulling out in the drizzle, Highland Dell Lodge exceeded my expectations! Check in was the self explanatory keys in an envelope taped to the door. The lobby was cozy and artistically designed with board games by a river stone fireplace. Up the stairs to my modest sized room with a balcony overlooking the river and I found the peace I was hoping for to ring in the new year. French doors I opened to the sound of the rain and ducks greeting each other. A comfortable bed, crisp linens, good options on the TV, and a shallow but long bathtub gave me much needed repose. Sleep came easy after hearing the sounds of revelry echoing on the river at Midnight. In the morning, included breakfast in the event center. It was beautifully decorated for the holidays with lights, a tree, village houses and gifts. Continental breakfast options included fresh fruit, yogurts, hard boiled eggs, juice, cereals, an array of fresh baked goods, and more. The patio with a bridge and river view was a tranquil spot for my first meal of the new year. A checkout and chat with the amiable host and owner of Highland Dell completed my stay. I highly recommend a stay, or even hosting an event at this beautiful and comfortable venue.

Really nice location. Clean (albeit a few cobwebs in the room) updated older property. Had a nice vibe reminiscent of days gone by. Very accommodating innkeepers- friendly and efficient in meeting our needs. Would have loved to have had a tea kettle and a mini fridge in the room, though space is tight. We would go back again.

Very quaint hotel with a view of the river. Breakfast was continental; dinner was in the dining room or outside on the patio.
Only issue was that there is no elevator and rooms are upstairs. I struggled with my bags up and down stairs. There was staff there but they paid no attention. Other older guests were there so I’m not sure how they managed.

The owners and staff at this hotel are wonderfully kind, attentive and friendly. They treat guests with a personal approach which is completely rare these days. They make you feel as if you really are guest in their home, which in fact you are, as this is a family run business. So refreshing after most places which are completely impersonal and run only for profit. This place is charming, spotlessly clean, wonderful included breakfast and they have an excellent restaurant as well as a popular bar. The hotel is exceptionally quiet and the setting by the Russian River surrounded by the beautiful trees and greenery makes this feel like a safe haven. It is a really specia place.

We stayed at the Lodge for a wedding and the staff was great, friendly, food was excellent, especially the apple strudel with homemade whip cream. It was quiet, clean, easy parking. The only reason not awarded 5 stars is because the rooms are tad small for 4 people, so not much room to layout suit cases or sit on something other than the bed.

Quaint lodge right at rivers edge however there’s no direct access to the river from hotel. A big, lovely river beach is just across the bridge. Rooms are simple, no closets, only 4 hooks for a double queen room, a minor inconvenience. Breakfast is great with a variety of food. Staff is very friendly and helpful. I’d definitely recommend this wonderful lodge.

Highland Dell is a lovely old lodge overlooking the beautiful Russian River. The host were friendly and helpful. The bed is very comfortable. I highly recommend dining at the restaurant. Our schnitzel was excellent and the house-made apple strudel is unsurpassed! I keep thinking about it. The breakfast included with the room is the best, by far, I have had at a hotel. Try the pastries. The rooms are VERY small, but nice, like in the old days when people didn't have as much stuff. Get over it. This place is special.

The location is great and the owners pleasant but unfortunately the room was very noisy. Anyone moving around upstairs, or alarms were heard in our downstairs room as if in our room. There was also a dog that barked for some time each afternoon.

I also have to say that the water took so long to become warm that I was very concerned about water usage.

My room was basic, but clean, modern, and comfortable . A perfectly fine place to sleep. I spent two nights. The first night the hotel was nearly empty and I slept well. However, the second night there were more guests and I discovered that the walls were extremely thin. So much noise leaked into the room from the lobby, hallway, and most unpleasantly the couple having a very good time (ahem) in the room upstairs. Nobody was being exceptionally loud, it just seemed to have zero sound insulation. Getting to sleep after 2 am was not what I needed after a long exhausting day out. One positive is that the continental breakfast is quite nice. The food is fresh and of good quality, with variety. Freshly boiled eggs, meats and cheeses, fresh breads and pastries, some tasty fruit are some examples. I would rate the hotel higher if the noise hadn't been such an issue.

A Gem on the Russian River

The hotel and room were lovely. The room had a small balcony overlooking the river. While the room was not large it was very comfortable with all the amenities including a large TV. My room was on the second floor reached only by a small staircase. This might be an issue for people who have mobility problems. The dining room was very nice that included a nice bar. My friends and I had dinner there and overall the food was very good, perhaps a tad expensive in that the main course included no sides. The service was quite acceptable although our waiter made a mistake a brought the wrong pasta dish to one of my friends. Finally, Herb the manager, was very friendly and accomodating. All in all, I really enjoyed my stay there, would definitely visit again and I would certainly recommend the Highland Dell Lodge.

It was a relaxing get away. One complaint was the pillows, I like feather pillows but they aren't firm enough for my girlfriend. Maybe 1 feather and another firm for each side. However the food at the restaurant was AMAZING. The schnitzel was OMG good.

I had a great stay here! I didn’t receive a reply to email questions before, but a local phoned them for me. I was arriving after the end of check in time. They were great and left keys and instructions for me.
Everything was really clean, had everything I needed and they helped with anything else I needed. Lovely helpful staff.
Other rooms toilet flushes could be heard but ear plugs sorted that. Great bed, toilet and shower. Super cute room I really happy with. Super safe as I was a woman travelling alone and didn’t worry at all.

We had a very nice stay at Highland Dell Lodge. It had a cozy vibe. The restaurant on site was good with nice view of the mountains from our table. The breakfast was next level continental. They had more choices than any other continental breakfast I have ever had at a hotel. It is very close to Armstrong Redwoods. There is not a lot to do in the area but if you are looking for a relaxing place to enjoy the scenery and comfortable room with friendly staff you will really like this place.

The lodge is a very nice building situated off the beaten path, next to The Russian River. The room was cozy and basic. They have a restaurant and bar but was closed on Wednesday.
The reason I gave it four stars is because: 1) We arrived around 5, hungry and dissapointed to find out the restaurant was closed. 2) This being the case and because of it's remote location, there are not a lot of choices. It would have been nice to know ahead of time or have a sheet with information as to where to eat. The golf course, about two miles from the lodge, seemed like the only choice. 3) We were told to let ourselves in when we got back from dinner (the desk person left after checking us in) and to lock the front door when we got back. It does say on their information that the front desk is staffed during limited hours.
The old lodge is very nice, udated, well kept but considering there was only one other couple staying, that we noticed, we didn't feel the front desk staff was very welcoming.

Weekend in the top floor suite

Stayed for one weekend. Good location. Nice being right on the water. Easy parking and check in. Very casual place. OLD bones - creaky floors and not very sound proof. But the owners were very nice and having the restaurant there was helpful. Unfortunately, the 3rd floor \"suite\" had a fly issue. Some cracks in the door frame allow them in and each day, they came in by the dozens. As long as you are OK with fly killing duty - its fine... but I would have preferred NOT to deal with that.

This is a poor hotel. The room is expensive nightly rate yet the room is far smaller than a 2 star motel, has no bath, broken WiFi, a TV that requires a code no one is given, no housekeeping, no view from room but a couple trees, no ability to control air conditioning inside room, no balcony, no patio from room. Generally feels like cheap apartment room not a hotel room.

Quaint Hotel in a Magical Place

The hotel was right on the River. The restaurant was great . The owners were super nice, but not the type of owners that get to know their customers. They just say hi and bye and here’s your key. Just mentioning this because we are the type of travelers that like to get to know people a little, so we thought that was strange. Still loved the place. They do have balconies on the river, but we weren’t offered this option, so we were able to sit on the lawn behind the hotel and enjoy the river for a little while. The breakfast was great. Super clean. There are no heaters/ac in the individual rooms, they just have a main thermostat in the hallway set at 66 degrees. Super cute and super safe hotel.

Not recommending this property! The room was small, the bed was hard and very uncomfortable so were the pillows, they were too soft and didn’t offer neck support. The sheets and pillowcases smelled strongly like bleach , it was suffocating. I didn’t get much sleep. The room didn’t have a refrigerator nor microwave, nor pressing iron. The air didn’t work and it got warm during the night.
I left early since I could bear being there for another night.

The property is charming but dated. Room was clean but not in good shape. There is a big stain above our bed with prior leek or collapse sealing. When we walked in we smell chemicals that probably were use to clean the room. The front desk gave us a fan to air it out, but never offered to change the room. Smell subsided but never went away. For B&B breakfast was mediocre, small continental breakfast like in motel. Location is great, right on the bank of Russian river, but to get to it is a challenge.

This place was the cutest little bed and breakfast around the scenic Drive to get there through the redwoods was my favorite. We had a wonderful couple of days staying on the Russian River. The location of the B&B is perfect and absolutely stunning.
We enjoyed swimming directly off the small dock and watching the sunset.
However, a few things in the B&B let our stay down.
I had read lots of reviews that said it was clean. In our room there was so much dust on the bed frames, skirting boards and picture frames, it looked like it hadn’t been dusted in a long time. Behind and under the furniture was even worse.
The shower curtain in the bathroom was mouldy and we had issues with the shower. We did speak to a member of staff who said that several guests had complained about it and that someone would look at it when we were out for the day. On our return, I spoke to the owner and she said she knew nothing about it and would send someone up to look at it. He did arrive promptly but seemed dismissive of the problem and that ‘was the way showers are in California’ (it felt like we were being jet washed when using it). Our shower in the hotel in San Francisco was fine. He did look at it and helped us to get a better pressure, but did concede that there was a problem with it.
I have read the reviews about lack of kettle, fridge, foldable seats in the room and reluctance to provide ice and glasses, which they did give us (two wine glasses but I couldn’t negotiate glass water glasses so ended up with plastic cups!).
Finally, we had expected a warm and friendly welcome which wasn’t very forthcoming.

We were pleasantly surprised how nice and spacious our room was. We had a great view of the river and the furnishings were comfortable. Our host Ingrid was delightful and very welcoming and friendly. We enjoyed the German cuisine offered in the restaurant on site. We definitely will return.

Quaint inn, great dinner food. Employees are informative and friendly.
Rooms are comfortable. Pillows too soft for me but still slept extremely well.

No idea how this hotel is rated so highly

We reserved this hotel based on reviews. I have no idea who or where those reviews came from. The staff was not friendly, the room was very small - queen sized bed with a small nightstand on each side. Bathroom contained a toilet and a shower with black stuff around the tile, and the sink was in the room, not in the bathroom. The walls were thin - we could hear the conversations happening outside our walls and the people walking on the floor above. The AC is managed in the hallway, so when the shower ran, the room heated up and we had no way to cool it off, so we had to open our door. I do not recommend staying here.

This was a cute little property right on the river. We enjoyed our stay and the staff was wonderful. The building is very old but clean. The only complaint was that it was loud, for instance when someone was showering in another room near us the pipes/water was super loud and the cars going by were loud (we were on the street side). The bar and restaurant were great!
