We drove 2 and a half hours to Monte Rio for a Valentine's Day weekend trip with my girlfriend. We get to this creepy looking empty hotel and the \"office\" was closed. There were no other cars in the parking lot and a hand written sign on the door that said to call Jay on WhatsApp for assistance. My cell phone had no signal in the mountains but luckily my girlfriend did. I was trying to call the \"hotel\"all day earlier, to ask about something else, with no answer either. We tried calling him for a half hour and still the same. My girlfriend tried one more time before we went to find wi-fi for my phone and to our surprise, he finally answered. He said that he had an emergency and that there was nothing he could do about it and would make it up. He doesn't have any help? Family? Part time employee? Couldn't call and let me know earlier? He had no answer to my questions. Expedia customer service gave me the run around that night and we had to search another app to find another hotel somewhat near, pay and book another hotel for the weekend and drive an hour up the mountains on the coast, since we could not find another room in the area. I had read comments about this same thing happening to someone else and that Jay was making passes at guests and making visitors uncomfortable so I was weary of paying up front, but I was desperate and hoped that maybe people were exaggerating. A very big lesson learned. Pay more attention to the comments and reviews before hand.

The hotel looked abandoned. There was no one at the hotel when I arrived. I stayed for 30 minutes and returned a second time 15 minutes later. There was no sign of life anywhere. There was an old faded sign on the door with a phone number… and when I called the person didn’t know why their number was even on the door as he didn’t even worked there anymore. Clearly there had been some serious weather at the river in the last few weeks but that is nothing new in Guerneville. Owners need to handle reservations seriously. I had to leave and find a place to stay in the dark. I better not be charged for this.

We got a mini suite and the bed was comfortable and unit was clean with soft new towels but those were the room highlights as well as a view of the river right in front with access if that is what you will be doing here. This was a step above camping and the property is old. There is no staff full time but self check in went OK. There is Wi-Fi but the whole area is lacking in cell service outside so be aware. We were there for a wedding nearby so did not use the property for leisure. There is a golf course down the road that served an excellent breakfast with a lovely view. The hotels along the river all look pretty old so this may not be uncommon for the area. If you are looking for a bargain this serves the purpose and had small kitchen and fridge but our room had only a large fan and no A/C unit. Some relatives had a room next to ours with free standing rolling A/C unit that sort of worked. Stairs to climb up to top rooms no elevators but we were able. If you need to sleep it’s OK.

Ok so this is a place that you have to appreciate the rustic charm and love the affordability. Jay is great. Responsive. Its not crowded. Theres available parking. The property is beautiful. The river folks are friendly...well most of them anyway. Yes the rugs could use changing, and the outside chairs could use a good scrubbing. But I will be making this my go to definitely.

We had specifically booked a room with a private balcony for a special occasion, and instead were given a unit that opened to a shared walkway, with broken blinds and zero privacy.
During our stay, we were blocked in by another car. When I asked for help, the only response was to “ask them to move it,” even though there was no indication of whose car it was or how to contact anyone else. No staff were present at any point, and there was no further communication.
The room itself was outdated, worn, and clearly not maintained with care. What’s most frustrating is that the property seems to charge a premium simply because it can—not because it offers anything close to a quality experience. It feels like no real effort is made to maintain the space or provide basic hospitality. The attitude seems to be: “people will book it anyway.\"

I did not get the room I paid for. That was the reason I stayed there, to get the room with the spiral staircase to an upper bedroom. Instead, they put me in a cheaper room and gave my room to someone else. They did not even say sorry or attempt to make it up in any way.

We had an okay stay. It has a nice river view but the propery is very outdated. The bathroom was tiny and a bit dirty. The kitchen stove was rusty and cabinets were old that the paint were already chipping. The window blinds were broken. We had to kinda fix it to cover atleast most part of the window. The room was a bit dark. Not enough lighting. I didn’t feel comfortable staying inside the room, more so sleeping on the bed. The bed sheets has overwhelming stench. Fortunately, we always carry our own bedsheets, blankets and pillow covers for such situation. Unless they upgrade, we don’t see ourselves staying in this property again.

Like: I had to call the number posted on the front door when I arrived. The call was answered quickly and the host came immediately to check me in. She also added a heater to my room to help heat it up (without me asking). She was very friendly and confirmed where I could grab some food. She came up and knocked shortly before 9pm to make sure I was warm enough and ask if I needed more blankets. I could smell the detergent on the sheets (not sure about the blankets though)

Similar to some other facilities in area, but not as expected. We stayed 1night then moved to another inn. As seniors, about 80 years old, the stairs were a problem.

It amazes me. Someone could easily renovate the room. As it is, it smelled very bad, the sheets look like they are from a thrift store. Cabinets are damaged and paint is in very poor. They are obviously milking every dime from this place and barely even cleaning. There is someone’s contact lens stuck to the wall in the bathroom.

Staff is great and area is great, 15 - 20 minutes to sonoma coast state park! But the place is completely outdated, not close to good dining, unless you drive. The outside area is dirty, full of dead bugs and the room had dead bugs on the windowsils and stained carpet, also had no fans or air conditioning, it's very very hot at night. Not sure it would be my first choice to stay again there.

This is a gorgeous area of the Russian River! The resort has the only beach area we saw on this stretch of the river. The well manicured grounds are a beautiful place to picnic or hang out at the beach. We had a great time in the paddle boat as well as with the kayak.

Right off the hwy, this old delapidated three story rickety place is still beautiful. there are wide lawns overlooking the lake, and trees all around. Manager Jay is delightful, helpful and responsive. But, he can't change the fact that the stove top was rusty and broken, there weren't even two matching glasses, the dishes were chipped and it was all ill-equiped, the couch (which was supposed to be a futon or rollout) was filthy and did not roll out or open up. The window paint was peeling. The cracks in the walls made it look like our cabin would buckle at any moment. Dead mosquitos and flies everywhere. I feel badly giving a bad review because its a pretty area,but rickety , old and not so clean or quiet you can hear the road traffic)--is really what you get. It could be wonderful if they really deep cleaned it and updated it. I'm pretty sure its a health hazard and doesn't meet building and safety standards. Though a bit less expensive than some hotels in the area, it is WAY overpriced for what you get. Again, the manager was very kind and sweet, but that was the main asset of the place!

Really disappointed Cottage was extremely small I got charged $25 extra for having my partner. Flat rate is for one person only and then 25 extra per person really. Got charged $45 had to pay cash for my dog when the property said it was pet friendly when I originally booked. Can't flush your toilet paper down the toilet and take more than a couple minutes shower without running out of hot water. Plus I was really confused considering it said this place was a resort it's 2 houses converted into Hotel rooms. All in all description of the place was completely inaccurate. And I paid close to $300.

I paid $219 for one night and couldn’t wait to get out of the place. They actually had a sign in the bathroom telling you not to flush toilet paper down the toilet because the toilet would clog. The room that the bed was in was so small you couldn’t walk around the bed.
The front door had a 1/2 inch gap under it so all the bugs and critters could get in.

The man running the property was beyond kind. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. The Pom was basic but did the job. I would definitely be back. And great location to enjoy the coast and the river.

This place is so beautiful and quiet and Right next to the River. I was able to relax and have a stargazing night. Waking up to the sound of happy birds was priceless! The person in charge of the property is supper cool, supper friendly and made us feel welcome and at home. Loved that a light breakfast was offered to us in the morning. This is the second time I’m there and I will definitely keep coming back! :)

do not book through Expedia, and perhaps don't book at all. I searched for a 5 person room on Expedia - the owner insisted I'd only booked a 2 person room, that the max legal number in any room was 3 (even though the room was described as a family-size suite with 2 queen beds) and was very rude to me and my partner. The room itself was very dirty and smelled so moldy that we couldn't stay.
