Lovely room, nice and warm as very cold outside. Plenty of storage.
Had reserved a table for 2 nights in restaurant 6 months before our stay and requested a table in the window, only had this one night and then was put in the back room which has no atmosphere. Menu quite limited there used to be fish but that has been removed. Breakfast is good providing you don’t go late otherwise fruit has all gone. Ran out of corn flakes and English tea whilst we were there. Only one teapot has a lid.
Location though is excellent.

The hotel for the railway.

I have just spent 3 night and found the location perfect. My interest are the steam trains there. The room was clean and tidy. The only thing missing is tea and coffee making facilities? But you can obtsin this from reception. Parking was a bonus free, unlike in Berlin today. The place to stay if you just want to travel to the top of the Brocken mountain. Also speak good english as the morni g person comes from U K originally.

Perfect stay in Wernigrode

Perfect location if you arrive to Wernigrode by train. Great tidy, clean solo room and a nice breakfast buffet overlooking the steam engine railway. Helpful front desk staff. The town is beautiful.

Great stay in this quaint little City

The staff were friendly, the check-in process was cumbersome but not to the point of being annoying. We ate dinner in the hotel on night of our three night stay and had a delicious meal that was properly priced. Breakfast eat morning was well stocked and hot. We overlooked the railyards which provided endless entertainment a the old steam trains were moved into position.

Conveniently located near the Harz narrow gauge railway, (with a railway theme to the hotel) but only a few minutes walk towards the centre of the historic town centre. Clean and modern rooms , a good breakfast buffet and friendly helpful staff.

Stopped four nights. Overall pretty good, if slightly more expensive than it might be.

The hotel was a few minutes walk from the railway stations, and provided free parking.

I guess that the inflated price is as it is a themed location for the narrow gauge railway, with the drinks delivered by train feature in the restaurant.

Room was good sized, and very clean. The double bed I booked was actually two single beds pushed together, with a single duvet.

The rooms could do with tea/coffee facilities.

The bar / restaurant was good, as was breakfast which was available from 07.00.

Caters for all very well.

This hotel is perfect for all types especially the rail fan.
Over looks the HSB shed/yard and has a model train delivering the beer to the table. Very clean and comfortable with helpful staff. A small city tax provides a discount booklet including area buses. One to remember.

My first impression was one of exceptional freshness in the room, which was of good size and comfort. Check in was quick and friendly and breakfast had a good selection. The location is perfect for exploring the town and region. For those taking the steam train into the Harz or traveling by normal train, the stations are across the road. The beautiful pedestrian zone which is also where you catch the shuttle to the castle overlooking the town, is a pleasant stroll less than five minutes straight down the street. You also get free regional bus transportation with your tourist card at checkin. Perfect location, friendly service, nice room, excellent value.

If you're into railways, this has to be the best hotel in town. Located opposite the HSB railway station in Wernigerode the hotel has a railway theme throughout with room names & decoration having a railway theme throughout. The dining room comes complete with drinks from the bar being delivered to the table via model railway.

Our room was basic, but clean & tidy.

Evening meal was delicious, and breakfast was a great spread of all you could fancy.

The town is well worth a visit, and this hotel is as well.

Next to the steam railway

I have stayed here a few times, this time we had a railway room overlooking the front of the hotel. The room was average and comfortable, but the staff as usual were great, the bar and restraunt are excellent and although it is a little expensive it is in a tourist area and is comparable price wise with the other accomadation.

Trains deliver your drinks at the Altora

We had a very pleasant stay at Hotel Altona.The staff were friendly and the service was excellent. The position of the hotel and its close proximity to the steam railway station was an added advantage as our main reason coming to Wernigerode was the rail journey through the Harz Mountains. We could watch the daily steam up from our breakfast window....a very pleasant stay.

This was about the sixth time I stayed here, So that should say everything. I am a railway enthusist
so being right opposite the steam engine sheds is great.The staff here are always good and most speak english. Breakfast very good and fresh.Room and bed comfortable but on this visit rather hot due to the hot weather. Maybe a fan in the room when these conditions prevail.The hotel id about an 8 minute walk to the town centre.

Very close to the station . Hotel comfortable and. Breakfast Good. At checkout reception was adamant we had not paid and. Insisted that we pay again,even though we had shown her evidence on the booking confirmation. We had no option as we had a train to catch. Took over an hour to sort out the problem with the Expedia and the credit card company. Rather spoilt an otherwise enjoyable stay.

We stayed here for 3 nights. The staff at the reception and dining area were wonderful, in particular Olga. She never stopped smiling and was quite accommodating.
The hotel location is within walking distance of the train and main area of town.
We stayed in a room facing the parking lot, which was much quieter than the street side.
Our room (101) was quaint, with 2 double beds, and a large shower.
Breakfast each day was quite nice, with breads, cereal, fresh meat cuts and cheeses. There was also hot eggs and bacon each day. Dinner was okay, but mostly Italian dishes and nothing to write home about. Menus were available in English.
Overall, it is a very pleasant 3 star hotel.

Had an excellent 2 night stay in the Altora to ride the steam train up the Bröken. Staff were excellent and informative. Food in the restaurant was fabulous and the model train that brings you your drinks is a wonderful gimmick. Breakfast although continental was well stocked, only issue was the sausage and scambled egg warmer didn't keep them very warm!

Clean comfortable good sized room. Convienient location near to the main railway station and HSB steam railway, 10-15 minute walk to the town centre. Breakfast OK, and evening meal good, apart from the model railway running next to the tables which delivered your drinks, etc. This was entertaining initially but became annoying after a while - would have preferred better (human) service!

The hotel is across the street from the train yard. Great spot not only for those who like trains but steam trains. My kids love trains and could not keep away from the window. We booked the larger room and the building we were in was modern and the room was clean and comfortable. My only complaint were the glass bathroom doors and partition in the bedroom. Though they were decorated with steam train etchings, they allowed light in the rooms. Bothersome if you are sleeping. The train station is only about a five minute walk. My kids had a great time taking the train to the top of Brochen Mountain despite the weather. Not so busy this time of year.

Dream hotel for steam train fans!

We had 2 nights here in a very spacious room, actually almost a suite as the bedroom was separate to the lounge area. Very nice bathroom and a separate toilet. The hotel overlooks the locomotive depot for the Harz narrow gauge railway which for me was a delight! Not noisy at night as the trains don’t operate then and in any case the windows are double glazed. The hotel has its own restaurant with an excellent menu and if you get a table by the windows, your drinks will be delivered by a large scale model train! Great fun!

Great atmosphere, friendly people!

If you are planning to come for a trip on the Harz Railway (which you should) this hotel is the best place to stay. It is right across the road from the ash pit and coaling facilities, so you get to watch the steam locomotives being serviced at the end of their days' work over a pint of beer! If you decide to have dinner at the restaurant, the drinks are brought to your table by the model railway, a nice touch.
It is a short walk to the station(s) and to the town centre, so an ideal location.

Excellent location. Much better than expected room. Very good breakfast buffet included in the very reasonable room price. Extremely convenient for the steam railway and the restaurant bar has a novel railway theme with service rendered by miniature train set. Great experience, especially if you are a rail enthusiast. Clean, lovely hotel right next to the steam trains

I love this hotel! It has so many neat little nuances like the train that delivers drinks in the restaurant, the immaculate rooms and common area, the comfortable bed, the large windows that allow you to hear the trains if you want or not, they are that good.
The location is wonderful! It's right next to the steam train depot which transforms you back to a bygone era. The trains take you up to the top of Brocken Mountain and beautiful hiking in Harz National Park. It's a couple blocks from shopping and restaurants in the picturesque city center of Wernigerode.
The restaurant has wonderful food! We stayed 3 nights and had dinner there twice! There is a patio out the front door to enjoy a beer or a little nook on the second floor to watch the night settle in. The beer on tap was amazing!
I love the staff and the accommodations. We would highly recommend the Hotel Altora to everyone. Request a room in front to enjoy the view of the beautiful hillside and trains, or if you're looking for a silent stay, request a room in the back.

Great hotel if you are steam train fan!

The hotel restaurant the steam train yard so do some of the , so you can actually watch active steam engines. The only drawback is that these rooms are also next to the main road, so you do get early traffic noise. The hotel is only 5 minutes walk from both the railway and bus stations.

Sport from a rushed check in, we arrived at 2140 and reception closed at 2200, everything else was fine. Good clean room, friendly staff, good buffet breakfast, good food in the restaurant, fine collection of railwayania displayed throughout the hotel. Well situated for the Harz (and DB ) railway stations. \"Railway rooms\" do overlook the engine sheds bit if you're spending all day riding the trains are probably not worth the supplement as they is a balcony available to all and it has an even better view for those unable to walk 15 metres to the other side of the road up to the railway fence!!

Das Themenhotel Eisenbahn fand ich originell, die Möglichkeit direkt die historischen Züge zu beobachten, war toll. Nicht ganz so gut hat mir das relativ dunkle Interieur gefallen, nach meinem persönlichen Eindruck.

Schöne Unterkunft mit dem Motto \"Harzer Schmalspurbahnen\" - deutlich vor allem in den Räumen des Gastronomiebereiches. Man bekommt seine Getränke an den Fensterplätzen per Eisenbahn an den Tisch geliefert - sehr nett!

Ausreichend großes Zimmer mit einem Bad auf dem Stand der Zeit. Sehr gut: Man kann die Heizkörper noch mit dem klassichen Thermostat regeln. Vielleicht könnte das Lichtkonzept im Zimmer noch etwas verbessert werden - zwischen dem großem, hellen Deckenlicht und vergleichsweise dunklem aus Tisch- und Bettbeleuchtung gibt es nichts.

Etwas überraschend (NICHT unfreundlich!) erschien zuerst der Empfang im Gastrobereich gegen 21.00 Uhr (geöffnet bis 22.00 Uhr). Es wurde erst geklärt, ob man noch Getränke bekommen kann. War dann aber möglich.

Bei einem nächsten Mal Wernigerode würde ich wieder dort übernachten.

Meget trafikstøj. Køretøjer med sirener hver time. Røgen fra det gamle lokomotiv kunne tydeligt lugtes inde i værelset.
Dårlig rengøring. Måtte bede og rene håndklæder og toiletpapir efter rengøring havde været forbi.
Vi overnattede 10 nætter, men havde egentlig betalt for 11. Vi tog hjem en dag tidligere, da vi ikke kunne holde den hårde seng ud mere.
Morgenbuffeten var kedelig. Ofte var der nogle rundstykker tilbage eller røræg.
Sidste morgen fandt vi begge æggeskaller i røræggen, hvorefter vi henvendte os til personalet. Fik af vide, at vi bare kunne tage noget nyt.
Kun én fra personalet snakkede ok engelsk, resten kunne næsten intet og svarede ofte bare på tysk.

Dejlige værelser (suite)

Vi fik en lækker 2-værelses suite med badekar og skøn balkon mod gården. Man skal vide, at togbanen med damplokomotivet (kører på kul) er lige ud for hotellet. Det lugter og larmer. Men skøn lejlighed, morgenmad med bredt udvalg. Dejligt centralt i den gamle bydel med masser af charme. Skøn by.

Gute Unterkunft in tollem Ambiente! Besonders der Blick auf die Betriebsstätten der Harzer Schmalspurbahnen vom Restaurant aus ist für Bahnfans eine großartige Sache. Leider war es nachts auf der Straße vor dem Zimmerfenster wiederholt sehr laut, was wohl auch an dem gleichzeitig stattfindenden Stadtfest gelegen hat.

Fint hotel for tog nørder da det ligger lige ved Hsb depot og Hsb HBF

Men sneglen de har ansat i receptionen er ikke til meget hjælp.
indtræk for 6 personer samlet 1 time og 30 minuter gab når man har regst lant.

Man konnte während des Frühstücks den Lokomotiven dabei zusehen, wie Sie mit Kohle beladen werden. Viel Rauch und etwas Spannung, was ein interessanter Ausblick war. Im Restaurant selbst fahren Miniaturdampfzüge, wovon einer auch die Getränke zu den Tischen fährt.

Das Frühstück ab 09:00 Uhr war leider etwas Glückssache. Die Rühreier waren oft versalzen und ab und an fehlte schon zu Beginn hier und da etwas. Bei der Menge an Auswahl aber kein schlimmes Problem.

Tolles Themenhotel für Familien

Tolles Themenhotel, freundliches und hilfsbereites Personal. Essen insgesamt empfehlenswert. Tolle Aussicht auf die Harzer Schmalspurbahn. Lärm von der vorbeiführenden Bundesstrasse ist auch kein Thema, dank moderner Fenster.
