A Five-Star Haven During Snowmageddon

The staff at Hotel Kinsley turned what could have been a stressful snowmageddon into a truly five-star experience. Every person who cared for us was kind, genuine, and somehow managed to make gourmet lemonade out of lemons—despite the blizzard outside.

It began with Elizabeth, whose warm smile practically melted the snow. Greg kept us laughing and went above and beyond to make sure I didn’t have to brave the storm—and that we enjoyed a truly sumptuous breakfast. Simon was a steady presence, taking care of us around the clock with delicious meals and every amenity we could need.

And finally, Ralph, who diligently cleared feet of accumulated snow, saving me from nearly half an hour of freezing work on my car and keeping the parking lot safe and drivable. I can’t thank these people enough.

We also loved relaxing by the roaring fire in the hotel’s vibey restaurant, beneath a striking photograph of George Harrison reminding us that “All Things Must Pass.” And since they do, I can’t think of a better place to be than Hotel Kinsley.

I look forward to returning—no matter the weather.

Hotel was very cute and clean and spacious. Nicely appointed and decorated. They have cookies at check in. Kingston is andor with great shopping and restaurants and very walkable. The staff said they would call when room was ready and they didn’t. Temperature control in the room was challenging and it was very dry. If we opened the window, there was a loud air vent from restaurant next door. No fan/vent in bathroom. Breakfast was meh. But I would stay there again.

Very cute hotel with multiple buildings that are close together so easy to head back to the main building for a meal or drinks. However, they didn’t seem to have an efficient system in place for continental breakfast. They gave us the wrong timing for it our first day so we showed up after it was over which they apologized for and gave us a compensation to make up for it. The next day we showed up on time and breakfast was out but they said we couldn’t sit in the restaurant because they were setting up for an event and said to bring it “upstairs” but we were staying in a different building. We ended up eating at the bar which they were fine with it. Food selection was small and not a lot of variety.

I would recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Kingston but let them know to not expect too much out of the continental breakfast.

I had to check in to the hotel at one location, then walk a couple of blocks to park my car, then walk another block and a half to the building with my room. No map is given to you although a \"guide to kingston\" handed out does have a map of the area with the buildings marked but when you're trying to find your hotel room, walking around in the cold, it would be nice to have a map in hand so one knows where one is going. Really not worth the price as I could have stayed elsewhere for half the price. I don't recommend this hotel.

If you have ANY kind of mobility issues, call the hotel directly to request a first floor room. We were unaware that there was a non-functioning elevator (ADA non-compliant and ongoing for several years apparently) in our building and, after a heart attack in January, the steep steps to our third floor room were quite a challenge for my husband. Also, parking may be a 2-3 block walk.

The hotel rooms are beautiful however I stayed at the Pearl Street location and found it to be extremely loud. The common room was next-door to my room so I could hear rowdiness, even a dog barking endlessly. Footsteps above me, TV next-door to me. Soundproofing is bad. I called to complain, and was offered a room on the third floor, which was difficult with a heavy suitcase and no help or elevator in the building. Also, I was surprised by how the bathrooms are outfitted. You go to the trouble of having Frette robes, but no hairdryer or things like cotton pads, earbuds, etc

No elevator. If you’re not physically fit, the three flights of stairs were a bit too much for us in your stay you will receive either one free appetizer or one free dessert. But please check in first before you dine there. We dined first at the hotel. I ordered one appetizer $15 and it was not refunded. On the bill we did get seven dollars removed but not on the appetizer. Two of the towels in the bathroom had brown spots on them. Make sure you get there early to eat because most of the things you really want to eat was sold out so you needed to settle. It’s a great location right in town walking distance. I didn’t like the fact that you had to park at a different location away from the hotel and take your luggage and belongings and walk back to the hotel. That was a bit of an inconvenience, especially for the price of the hotel

Nice spot in the heart of town

The location is fabulous. Right in the heart of downtown Kingston near everything. The staff is super friendly and the restaurant was delicious. I loved the shampoo, soaps and lotion, and in the bathroom was clean and bright.the part that was a little bit challenging was that my colleagues room was in a completely different building over a block away, and it was hard to find in the night. It also didn’t feel as secure as the main building.

I stayed at the wall st location strictly for the walkability to my favorite restaurants. I checked in late and the staff was pleasant but not very informative. I discovered the continental breakfast the next morning when I asked about coffee at the check in desk. As a Kingston local, this hotel is clearly designed for the tourist (nyc) crowd. I will always support small bussiness but the price I paid did not warrant the room, hotel or service. The carpet was stained going up the stairs to my room and the “happy hour” bar prices were equal to the standard bar prices at other nearby locations. My room had 2 outlets, one which was full with a power strip. I appreciate historical charm so I survived without a coffee maker or microwave in my room but the mini bar of snacks that took up half of the only counter space in the room and the entire mini fridge was disappointing. The bathroom was beautiful but also had no counter space and a slim shelf above the sink which did not hold all of my toiletries. As I stated above, I just recently moved out of the Kingston location and it was very clear why I had never been to the Kingsley before. I have also stayed in another local (very close in location) hotel which was a chain but a third of the price. I don’t think I’d stay here again

Our recent stay at The Kinsley was one of the most inhospitable we've experienced. If you decide not to read the rest of this review: spend your money elsewhere, where you won't be overcharged for basic hotel amenities and then ignored or gaslit if you raise issues with management.

It was our first trip with our baby, and we were booked for two nights in The Kinsley's Pearl St. property two blocks away from the main building. We were not advised upon check-in that the building was walk-up only (management informed us that this information is readily available on the website, which is true but in the fine print and refers only to second- and third-floor rooms. We had no way of knowing which floor we would be staying on). No one offered to help us with our bags up the stairs.

After settling in, we encountered multiple issues. The hot water ran out after a 5-minute shower, so we were unable to give our baby a bath. The thermostat in our room was broken, and we could not adjust the temperature which was very hot. One of the sinks had a stopper that wouldn't un-stop so was half-filled and unusable all evening. There was no complimentary tea- or coffee-maker in the room. We were also informed that there was no room service in the building. Given the multitude of issues and the price we paid for the room, we decided not to stay the second night and requested a refund for the night; I have never encountered a hotel management team with such little empathy for their guests!

No hot water - shocking lack of follow up

I am happy to pay extra for a room with a bath tub. We did so. Around $500. The room was perfectly lovely, although for this price range I would usually expect there to be an espresso machine, kettle, cups etc, especially as this was a room in an out house, far from the reception and main hotel. The bath tub looked lovely. Unfortunately without hot water, a bath tub is not useful. After calling reception and finding no answer we finally got through to someone remote in reservations who said they'd pass on a message to reception. Finally someone showed up, explained there was a \"scald safety switch\" which prevented hot water running. Even after using the switch the hot water cut off after 1 minute and could not be reset. End result, no hot water for bath tub. Yes, we did turn the stupid scalp button (see photo). Calling back again, no resolution. Advised to email [email protected] which I did upon check out. 4 days later no response. I am shocked by the poor service, disinterest in rectifying a problem, complete lack of follow up. I do not recommend this hotel at all.

The small square within 1 to 2 blocks around the hotel was quaint and beautiful. The staff was exceptional and welcoming. Room was very clean and overal a wonderful experience. The hotel restaurant for dinner was delicious and included breakfast was also scrumptious with pastries being the star. However escaping the gem like area the surrounding neighborhood lacks in the bucolic and historic feel.

As return guests, we happily came back to Hotel Kinsley, however this time will be the last.

I left my expensive electric toothbrush behind in the room, and notified the hotel within 24h of checking out. They insisted that housekeeping did not find the item, which I left on the bathroom vanity in plain sight.

The hotel front desk and management have been dismissive of my lost item, and have not reached out to me in an attempt to explain or rectify the situation. I no longer trust the housekeeping at this hotel and will not return.

As a boutique hotel with a reputation to uphold, I would expect Hotel Kinsley to take matters like these more seriously.

Great stay. HK really put effort into updating their older buildings and did not cheap on out on bathrooms, beds, pillows etc. Breakfast was simple but healthy and fresh.

Would give this 5 stars if they considered (1) putting tea kettles and instant coffee in the rooms (2) having some cold water with snack in common areas in the afternoon (3) maybe having a small outdoor seating area at 41 Pearl Street. There were a couple instances where we needed to reach the front desk and had to call 3-4 times rather than once but everyone was extremely kind and helpful.

Also the restaurant is excellent.

The Hotel Kinsley is actually four separate buildings within a small radius in Kingston, so if you’re not in the main building, it feels like you’re on your own. When we checked in we were told to go our building, unload our bags, carry them up to our third floor room (no elevators) and then park in a lot down the street. I was there with my mom who has some trouble walking and it was really hard for her negotiating the stairs. When we mentioned this at the front desk and asked for help with our bags, we were told by the one person in the hotel on duty that he was waiting for a “VIP” to arrive and we’d have to wait 20 minutes. It’s one thing to have this kind of setup and get a good deal. But for the prices they’re charging, it’s not unreasonable for guests to expect more. The room was very nice, spacious and clean, and it was great being right in town. But it was not worth the cost.

This hotel is lovely. Clean, modern, nicely appointed. Our rooms were large. The restaurant was fantastic - great food and decor. The included continental breakfast was very good. The location in Kingston was charming.

There are just 3 things keeping me from giving a 5 star review: first, it was not clear to us when booking that the rooms are in several buildings 2 blocks apart, so we hauled all our luggage out, put it back in the car, and hauled it out again - in the rain. Second, the AC was either “all or nothing” and blew the cold air directly onto one of the beds. Third, the only person on site at breakfast did not speak English and I had to go down into the basement to pantomime that there was no more coffee. Otherwise this place is outstanding.

The bed was as clean as at home. I like the high ceilings and roominess Did not like the availability of the snacks since I have had problems with them in the past. I did not realize that the stairs were so steep which would have been a problem for the elderly. It was quiet and not much going on around but since we were visiting relatives, that was ok. I have not stayed at other hotels in the area so cannot make a comparison. I would gladly return.

We stayed at the Pearly Street Luxury King room and the room was stunning and huge. The bathroom was beautiful. We loved the property and it was so nice having the gym, sauna and massages in the building. The common space in the building was also beautiful. One con was was the building is old so the walls are thin- you can hear cars passing by and people walking up the stairs. The other building was also super nice with the bar and restaurant, very cozy. Staff was nice there were a few interactions where they needed to check with someone else before getting back to us but they were easily resolvable.

The room was a nice size with comfortable bed and a nice chair and small desk. There was quite a selection of snacks and beverages for purchase in the room which was good especially because there's not really anything around open late, and the bar closed before 9:00 the night we stayed. The room we stayed in was a well done renovation, and I would highly recommend the Wall St King room. There were a couple of things that showed wear - some of the curtain hooks weren't attached anymore, and the handle of the hand shower was broken. It also took a REALLY long time for the hot water to make it up to the shower early in the morning.
Continental breakfast was fairly basic with pastries and fruit. The tea and coffee were quite good. We would definitely stay again if in the area.

Wi-Fi didn’t work all weekend. First night thermostat didn’t work, too hot in room
Second night fixed it was too cold
They offer NO amenities. No one came to our room to bring new towels. We couldn’t even get coffee or tea at 8pm to drink in lounge at Pearl St location. We walked to order in restaurant. Told If we drank it at restaurant it would be at least 15 minutes as 6 parties had just been seated. There was only 1 bartender working for a packed bar and restaurant.
There were no attempts at any follow up customer service.
As we went to leave our friend forgot his jacket in room and was locked out. Called front desk who sent someone over to let him in to get coat. Waited 20 minutes and he called front desk again.
Staff member was waiting inside hotel having gone in back entrance for someone who was locked out of building ! Would not recommend anyone stay here and it is extremely overpriced for essentially just renting a room to sleep in.

Loved our stay

We stayed at the Wall Street location and it was perfect. The room was very clean, the soap/lotion/shampoo/conditioner in the room was a local brand and smelled delicious, the restaurant downstairs was amazing, and they have a simple but very nice complimentary breakfast in the morning. The location is perfect if you want to walk to/from restaurants and shops. For anyone with issues with stairs, there is no elevator.

Very enjoyable stay.

Really nice boutique hotel in old renovated bank building in historic uptown Kingston. Right in the center of very walkable area with shops, cafes, museums, pre-Revolutionary War buildings. Very tasteful yet contemporary decor with very clean rooms and comfortable beds. Restaurant downstairs has nice hip vibe, great food, but very high price tag! $34 for small serving of sea bass and asparagus, had two glasses of wine—$32! The sour cream dark cherry ice cream from local Nancy’s of Woodstock was the most heavenly ice cream I’ve ever had! Be aware there is no elevator in the building, so must climb two to three floors up to rooms. Enjoy the splurge! But you can always go to any number of other local restaurants for less expensive dinner.
