Very clean hotel and excellent location as far as walk ability but if you’re driving it may present a challenge. The person that was working at night must have not known to tell us that we could drive into their square to drop off luggage and he told us that we needed to park down the street and bring luggage with us. That was quite a haul with 4 pieces of luggage. The morning staff advised us to drive into the pedestrian only square to pick up our luggage. Much more convenient.

After staying a bit north of town for Oktoberfest, we booked one night for two friends at this hotel in the center of downtown. A perfectly charming space and the front desk clerk went out of his way to give us a room with a third bed (we booked two single beds) because there was a third friend spending the afternoon with us before catching a train out of the city. Spectacular service and location, would give more stars if I could.

The location of the hotel which is on the edge of the Vikualienmarkt is ideal for being able to see all the major sites within the Old Town area of Munich by foot.
Even the furthest of them was only around 30mins walk.
There are also numerous good places to eat and drink nearby. The hotel staff were very helpful throughout our stay. The only issue we had was our electronic room key kept not working over the first two days but this was eventually sorted out and for the rest of the time was fine. Can be a bit noisy late at night as there are a few bars close by. Also be warned that the church bells start at 7am.
We would still use this hotel again should we go back to Munich.

This property was noisy, lacked air conditioning, had very poor furniture, institutional decor, and a shower that was hazardous to get out of. Very low value for the cost. Staff when we arrived was rude and offered no information about the area. Staff at breakfast the next morning was nice enough. Local parking is 40eu/day. Stay further out and use the subway.

Great location, but the photos make the hotel look a lot nicer and cleaner than it is. Its a bit dated, walls are fairly scuffed up. No AC. Quite loud outside the hotel. And the walls between rooms are paper thin. But otherwise, the beds and bathroom were clean and comfy, and in a great spot.

We love the location of this hotel, it was perfect, walkable to all the places we wanted to see and easy to get to the train station or get a taxi or Uber. The staff was not as helpful as we would hope, they did not speak English or even tried to make any conversation. The bathroom shower floor was VERY slippery and we did tell them, but they didn't have anything to say on that. The bed was comfortable, overall, we enjoyed the area very much and the hotel's location was great!

The property is in a great location but it is run down. We arrived and had no toilet paper in our room and the trash can had dirty face wipes in it. The walls are paper thin and you can hear EVERYTHING in the next room. The staff were nice but we didn’t have much interaction with them. As I said, the property is in a great location but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a four star or plus hotel.

Very good location, easy steps from Marienplatz, shopping, many restaurant options.. accommodations clean, well maintained and staffed 24 hours a day. Right outside of the viktualmarkt (so). Very safe.. only complaint is we were on the 4th floor (3rd by European count) and street noise (alleyway) was excessive even with closed windows. It was very much a good value and we would definitely use them again.

Hotel Am Markt is a simple and well designed hotel. The rooms are very large and well appointed for Europe. Our room was on the first floor facing a street, but it was still very quiet. Comfy bed, nice shower, lots of storage...everything you need from a hotel room. The location near Marienplatz and lots of shopping and dining options was perfect. And breakfast in the morning was delightful as well.

Exactly what I was looking for - affordable, safe, clean room in a great location. The twin room was small, but had everything I needed. It had a view of the little square. The location is great, a few minutes walk to Marienplatz, but with that comes street noise. Also, inside the hotel, one can always hear clanking, banging, water through pipes, etc, from other people and the buildings internal machinery (we were right next to the elevator) which made it a little hard to sleep. The front desk staff, in general, was pretty grumpy and unfriendly. One even yelled at another guest for pushing the wrong button on the elevator.

I've seen some comment about rooms being small. The nature of the building somewhat dictates this, and for a single, mine was absolutely fine. The same goes for the small lift - you'd struggle to fit a bigger one in, so be patient! There's obviously been a refurbishment, which I liked, and the staff were great. I didn't have the breakfast, so can't comment on that. The location is great, right in the heart of the Alte Stadt, with many key spots within walking distance. The market itself is fantastic, too (be prepared at the beer stall and a couple of the coffee places for cash only transactions). There are some potential downsides - no fridge or kettle in the room - but neither of these bothered me. A double set of windows meant that personally I didn't find things noisy. I will certainly return to this hotel next time I'm in Munich.

Overall this hotel is in the best location in Munich, it’s in the center of everything. Unfortunately we had to leave a night early due to a train strike since we had a train for the next morning to Vienna, we knew it would get cancelled and sure enough it did. So we had to take a train a day early and explained to the hotel the situation but they would not give us a refund for that one night we are losing due to the strike. That was the only downfall to it but I really like this hotel.

The hotel was in a great location. Super easy to get to and right at the market. The room itself was tiny and being on the first floor the garbage trucks woke me up quite early. I’d suggest asking for an upper floor room.

The hotel is centrally located in the heart of old town Munich. Just steps from restaurants, cafes, the open market and many beautiful sights. The room was 2 twins and very small for my daughter and I. There was a large fan but no A/C. The front desk clerk did not speak any english and we don't speak German, but we were able to communicate ok with our translate apps. The parking garage is about 2 blocks away, and I learned the second day that we could get some parking covered by presenting the parking ticket to the front desk.

My husband I stayed for three nights on our first time in Munich. Location couldn’t be better. We loved being so close to Marienplatz but yet in a quiet little street. Got off the subway and walked less than 5 minutes to hotel. Super clean and quiet. Room was small but perfect for our needs. Will definitely come back if ever in Munich again.

This hotel is in a great area. The hotel staff were pleasant. However the room was tiny. It was only about 12’ wide by 14’ long. The bathroom was tiny too. There were no amenities at the property. No lobby to sit in, no bar. There was a small restaurant attached but you need a reservation. For what they have to offer, it’s extremely overpriced. We could hear others’ conversations clearly thru the wall.

I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel Am Markt! Allen at the front desk was so helpful and personable. The hotel is perfectly situated to the major sites and experiences in Munich. There are so many wonderful restaurants, bars, shopping ad markets in 2-5 minute walking distance. I have already booked my next trip for Oktoberfest here. The staff was helpful, the location was fantastic. We slept well, but had to close the windows to reduce outside noise to do so. This caused our room to be somewhat \"stuffy\" during the night. We went down for breakfast at the attached restaurant, only to be turned away because we had not reserved breakfast the night before. Not to worry, there was a McDonald's around the corner, so we ate breakfast there! The room was small and the bathroom claustrophobic - truly a \"water closet.\" It reminded me of a dorm room from my college days! There were no drawers, a tiny table with one plastic chair, one stool, two twin beds, and a couple pegs on which to hang things, and that was it! The room was spotless. The lift was only large enough for one person and their luggage. We would stay there again because of the location and the spotless housekeeping.
