What a find a gem amongst the bigger hotels, 26 ‘rooms’ in total, spread through lush gardens and right on the beach, with a lovely pool overlooking the ocean.
There seemed to be more staff than guest, who were friendly and nothing was too much trouble, they brought round cooling towels and complimentary fruit on sticks to the pool in the afternoons! Restaurant was excellent, open airy, comfortable and spacious. Breakfast was amazing even had champagne at no charge!! Spa was very good, we only had massages, they were really good and super affordable. Can highly recommended this hotel

Villa was lovely, it was well cleaned every day and the air con was great. It was good with the sofas outside and nice to have plenty of space.

However, the beds were so soft, anyone with back troubles will not enjoy, mine isn’t bad but I was in agony by the 8th night of the stay. The noise from the birds and animals all night and at dawn is loud, we take a white noise machine with us and even at its loudest, we could still hear them. Obviously, being in nature is amazing but just warning you to bring a white noise machine or ear plugs if you’re a light sleeper!

Staff were very friendly, always courteous and helpful and spa staff and massages were good

Things which were frustrating;

Pool area was small and you couldn’t move the beds easily so ended up not being able to sunbathe very easily. It’s seems to strange to have such a big place yet such a small pool and sunbathing area.

Influencers constantly taking photos, everywhere. You’d trip over them any time you moved in public spaces and it’s hard work. Again, understand the hotel wanting publicity but it’s hard work if you’re staying here.

Breakfast staff were very friendly but I think we they only got the order right once out of the 8 breakfasts we got. Again, they would put it right when you asked them but most didn’t write the order down and it became a running joke. Staff were slow in general and one breakfast we waited 15-minutes just to get some tea. Again, not a deal breaker but be prepared to be patient.

It’s a beautiful hotel with great helpful staff. Restaurant is good with delicious food. Pool is nice and rooms are lovely. The one disappointment is the beach that it’s on - sea wasn’t very inviting and there was quite a lot of ugly concrete fronting on to the beach.

We could not find fault with this Boutique Hotel. We were staying 14 nights for our 40th Wedding Anniversary. The hotel was beautiful peaceful but in easy reach of restaurants in the main town if you needed. We chose the breakfast only option and views in the morning were stunning. Staff were outstanding throughout and were able to deal any requests. We would recommend this hotel for any quiet retreat.

This was an amazing Boutique Resort, the views, the restaurant and ambience was amazing. We had an issue with a sewer smell in our suite, however they dealt with this efficiently and moved us into another suite. This is not the resorts fault, as it's built around nature, but the mosquitos & creepy crawlies are definitely present so be aware of this prior your stay!

We had an amazing four-day stay at Zazen Boutique Resort in Koh Samui. The cabins were spacious and beautifully designed, featuring a cozy sofa area where we enjoyed Netflix in the evenings. The food was exceptional, especially the Thai dishes—we loved the Massaman curry, morning glory, tamarind prawns, and Panang curry. The buffet breakfast offered a great selection as well. The pool area was stunning, with comfortable day beds perfect for relaxing. We also had a wonderful experience at the spa, where we enjoyed our first Thai massage of the trip. In the evenings, we often played pool and explored Fisherman’s Village for food and massages. Renting a bike is the best way to explore the island. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making our stay even more enjoyable. With its beachfront location and excellent service, Zazen was the perfect getaway—we’ll definitely be back!

This hotel is quiet and gorgeous. I stayed two nights and didn’t leave the property due to personal circumstances but it is close enough to Fisherman’s village to get some local flavor. Or really hospitable to walking around and exploring without a taxi to somewhere. Two nights is probably enough to experience this and then move on to another part of the island for variety.

We chose to stay here as we have been to the restaurant many times before it was renovated and the food was always superb. However, I’m afraid that is not the case anymore. The food was mediocre and nothing to rave about. The bar guys didn’t know how to make cocktails even though they were on the menu. I asked for a Bloody Mary and after 5 minutes of faffing around and trying to work out to make it, I cancelled it and ordered a coke.
The floor the the restaurant is filthy and we had 6 breakfasts here and the same food was still on the floor and dirt marks for all of the 6 days.

Room was beautiful and very clean and very happy with the room.

Doubt I will return.

Also in their brochure it says the hotel is aimed at influencers and I don’t want to be surrounded by people keep taking photos and only buying an orange juice.

I booked for 10 nights but only stayed for 5 due to an incident and the hotel was good enough to organise a refund for the balance of the nights not stayed which was appreciated. I highly recommend staying beachfront in villa 1 as the sunrise over the ocean is incredible.

Excellent option close to fisherman’s village

Lovely hotel near to all of the restaurants and shops of Fisherman’s Village. Beach area is massive with many sun loungers and free use of kayaks and paddle boards. Pool area is lovely but the pool itself is quite small. Food from the restaurant was delicious as was the breakfast which is an additional 400 baht with a selection of buffet and a la carte. Would definitely return.

Lovely hotel near Fisherman’s village

A beautiful hotel with lovely rooms and a huge beach front area with lots of sun loungers and use of kayaks for free. The pool area is also lovely, though the pool is quite small. Still a wonderful place to spend the day. Food from the restaurant was delicious, breakfast included a range of dishes to order as well as buffet cereal, fruit, pastries, juice and yoghurt. It’s about a 20 minute stroll either along the beach or on the road to Fisherman’s Village. I would highly recommend this hotel.

The hotel is very nice and right on the beach. Makes for a good sunrise, but you should be on the other side of the island for a sunset. The staff were very attentive and the service was fantastic. We had a small issue with mosquitos on the first night when we got in late. once we mentioned to the staff, they quickly erected a mosquito net which made the room look that little bit nicer as well. no complaints. i can see why it has such a high rating.The in house yoga instructor was fantastic.

The restaurant dinner menu and food was amazing! The female waitresses were pleasant but found the bartenders and beach boys not friendly at all. Almost like you were putting them out by asking them for a drink or food. The spa is amazing but the person I travelling with was treated poorly by one of the therapist. Because she is a bigger lady and they didn’t have spa clothes for her size the therapist basically told her she was too big. And was ignorant when she asked for something else to change into as she thought the Thai massage had comfy clothes provided and didn’t bring anything to change into. The therapist was rude and provided her with disposable panties and told her to change in the shower and didn’t even give her any privacy. This person shouldn’t be in the service industry!

Amazing honeymoon destination!

My husband and i took a beach front room in Zazwn to celebrate our honeymoon. We loved it!! The place is beautiful and obly has about 25 rooms so it was vert intimate and we felt almost alone. The beach was right outside our room amd we enjoined the canoe and paddling board that were there for our use. The staff was very friendly amd helpful and very soon we felt at home. The hotel is a close drive to the fishermans village which is nice and has a big weekend market. The only thing i could say that wasn't perfect is that the room design is a bit outdated, but still, very comfy. Important to say thay we were looking for a very relaxed, calm vacation, and the zazen was great for that. Of you are looking for action in the evening you will have to go out. We only regret we haven't stayed for longer.

This is an amazing property!! Photos do not do it justice....usually, the photos are far nicer than the actual resort. The opposite is true here. Garden paths are thoughtfully designed and beautifully decorated. Restaurant and bar have stunning views over the water. Best hotel breakfast I've ever had! Rooms are super comfortable and staff are friendly and helpful.

The grounds are like something out of a fairytale! Babbling rills and waterfalls, mysterious doorways and footpaths... Quite surreal at night with \"candles\" everywhere! The beach had been eroded by stormy weather, but what remained was soft sand and gentle blue-green waves -tension and anxiety were erased! There were a few nearby dining options for when we just wanted casual \"comfort food\" straight off the beach. The Staff at the Reception were amazing -so kind and helpful. I felt genuinely sad to have to leave...

The beachfront room with its open-air bathroom was great. Could listen to the waves roll in and only steps away from waters edge. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. The breakfast was particularly good, with incredible fresh juices to wash down the smoked salmon etc. Swimming pool was really nice also.

Relaxing resort on the beach

The resort is very quiet and the staff were all very helpful. The resort is on a beach, the area of the hotels beach area is fairly small but it is at the end of the beach so feels very secluded, it's a nice place to relax. The sea is calm and shallow, so it would be good for kids or those that don't swim that well.

There is a 2-seater kayak and a paddle board available for use for free.

My only complaint would be that the open bathroom is a haven for mosquitoes, after a few days there I have dozens of bites. I would think that some netting over the open areas wold be worthwhile.

The location is good if you want to be way from the noise, there are a few restaurants around though, and you can walk to Fisherman's village (20 minutes down the beach or 30 minutes by road), where there are lots of restaurants and bars.

A magical stay for couples

What a beautiful resort I could not complain about one thing, we stayed at zazen for 11 nights and loved every second of it. The staff cannot do enough for you, the food is definitely the best on the island and the hotel itself is very romantic and tranquil with so much attention to detail. I could not recommend this boutique resort highly enough. So If you are thinking about booking you will not regret it.

This was our best stay in Thailand..the pictures you see at internet are really What you see is what you get.. the garden is so lovely, the rooms are very luxurieus..and the location is perfect!! Very nice beach, swimmingpool. breakfast is good. There's only one Zazen in the world, unfortunately! If we go back to Samui we definately would love to go back here..

The staff here were excellent they booked tours and ferry tickets for us and gave brilliant local info.
They do have a lot of mosquitos but they provide spray and it's a small price to pay for the amazing shady garden.

Magestic with all their beautiful lights.

We arrived in the late evening and the resort looked magical. The Zazen is a boutique hotel with 26 villas so it's very quaint I would suggest more a couples than kids resort however some children were there. The staff were amazing we were looked after by Mira, Margaux and Yasmine who were a delight. They looked after us and recommended places for us to go and see. The pool is quite small but nice enough for a dip. The garden villas where spacious my only criticism is there is never enough hooks to hang things up. Also there is a step down to go to bathroom and in the middle of the night when a little disoriented you might forget the step is there. It has a Moroccan feel due to all the lovely lights and decor. Breakfast was plentiful and plenty of western and Asian courses to choose from. I would highly recommend this resort.

Perfection in Paradise

This was our first time in Thailand and we wanted a RELAXING holiday and Zazen certainly delivered and far exceeded our expectations in every regard. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we were greeted with the friendliest staff who couldn't have been more accommodating or attentive to us. Upon arriving at reception it was a picture of serenity and we immediately fell in love with the place. It was like a little piece of paradise. We were escorted to our beachfront villa which was perfectly located on the beach with stunning views of the sea. The villa was very spacious with nice decor and one of the most comfortable beds we've ever slept in! Conveniently located a few steps from the villa was not only the beach and the pool but the most fantastic restaurant. It provided an impressive variety of breakfast choices which was very well presented with cooked food to order as well. We had lunch and dinner in Zazen almost every day of our 6 in Ko Samui because the food was not to be missed. There was a great choice of dishes and as a vegetarian I had many options. The food was presented to a very high standard and was equally as exquisite! Add this to the amazing views and we were in heaven. The spa, also conveniently located was exactly what we needed and the massages were brilliant. We even treated ourself to a private Afternoon tea in the restaurant which was delightful. Every day at Zazen was utter bliss and can only be described as perfection in Paradise! :) <3

Boutique Resort Paradise

We loved our stay at Zazen. The hotel grounds are magical, so peaceful and wonderful attention to detail. An oasis. The staff was also extremely professional and helpful. Rooms were very comfortable and food cannot be beat! Pool was smallish but lovely. The only downside to Zazen, and Bophut in general, is that the beach is not as nice as Mae Nam or others on the islands. There are a lot of boats anchored right in front of hotel and there is a small polluted stream that outlets right next to the hotel. It is still good for walking. But if you are looking for a great boutique resort that and are not as concerned about a perfect swimming beach Zazen 100%++!

The only down part is that the beach where the hotel is located is not very good for swimming as the sea is a bit muddy but we rented a car and went to several other different beaches

The Zazen was an excellent choice. The staff was wonderful, and the food was outstanding. The location is great for the beauty and feeling of seclusion, yet a short walk to Fisherman's Village (shopping and dining). The property is an oasis tucked next to a mangrove and directly on the quiet end of Bophut beach. The restaurant on the property is outstanding, and the breakfast better than most in Thailand. If you are seeking relaxation and rejuvenation, this is the place.

Fabulous boutique hotel. With no doubt the nicest on that beach as tucked away at the end of it in a quiet area. Fabulous lay out and beautiful details throughout the property. If I went again I would book a beach villa as the garden villa we stayed in was too close to the road and I am a light sleeper so that was the only negative point.

The hotel is a very relaxing place and the food is outstanding. Breakfast included free Champagne. Good selection of wines and cigars. On the down side I encountered poor service, customer service and worst of all a rodent in our bathroom. Poor service and top end prices are a problem here, starters cost around £14 each and mains £20 -£30 plus tax. Later when my bill arrived I had an argument with the manager in full view of other guests after he tried to charge me for a complimentary bottle of wine for the poor service I had received. I refused to pay but my last night was already spoilt. Finally the rodent in the bathroom. It was our last night and I went to the toilet in the middle of the night and there it was running back down the shower tray into the drain. Bathrooms here are open air. The rodent then returned later in the night and I could hear it scratching around the bathroom. We checked out to catch an early flight and reported the problem to reception. The two young receptionist didn't really understand what i was saying and were more interested in settling my bill. What a shame to end a lovely few days at this hotel with poor customer service. If you stay here watch out for the rodent in room 8.

We had an incredible stay at Zazen! Every part of the service from staff was faultless. The hotel is quaint, incredibly clean, spacious rooms, and the decor is gorgeous throughout. The breakfast is a highlight in itself. Being smaller it felt so relaxing and you were never fighting over facilities with other guests. Loved the beach. We did a few day trips to other parts of the island we were looking at staying, and left knowing we had chosen the best spot in Samui. Close to the Fishermans village, and dinner at Zazen's restaurant is a must! We also did the cooking class which was fantastic. Would highly recommend if you're looking for a truly relaxing break. Thanks zazen!

Amazing resort, simply unique. The pictures don't give enough credit to the beauty of this place. The service is simply outstanding. Excellent 5 star restaurant thanks in particular to Chef Mattias Pawlik and F&B Manager Guillaume Delattre. A must go place. Loved any second of our stay.

an oasis of happiness

Constantly amazed at just how friendly the people can be and even more so when you go to fabulous places like Zazen. Small enough so that they soon get to know you adding that personal touch to your stay.
The restaurant is a delight and superbly located with a lovely relaxed atmosphere, top quality food presented beautifully and offered up by wonderful people.

It was so sad to leave but we will all take away memories that will put a smile on our faces every time we thunk about them.

Great honeymoon spot!

We loved our stay here at Zazen for our honeymoon! Everything from the food, amenities, to the spa was excellent. We stayed in the deluxe beach bungalow and it was beautiful. It was truly a magical stay and we highly recommend it for families and couples looking for a romantic getaway.

Outstanding Boutique Hotel.

Stayed at Zazen on recommendation of a friend. We loved the location, garden villa and the superb service. Secluded but not isolated so able to walk to other restaurants and bars. The breakfasts at the hotel are amazing and the service from the staff outstanding. We would have no hesitation on staying here again.

Perfect for a romantic get away.

Loved Zazen Boutique Resort. We stayed in an unique room that looked out on the beach. the weather was raining but everyone at the resort was friendly and helpful so we didn't mind the rain. We enjoyed dinner at the Zazen Restaurant on Sunday night and the highlight was the live traditional music and Thai traditional dancers (amazing how graceful they are). I would highly recommend Zazen for a romantic get away.

Charming oasis on the beach

We stayed four amazing days at Zazen. The hotel ground is gorgeous: lush garden, beautiful details at very turn, beautiful view at the restaurant, and calming pool.

The room is just as pictured on the website.

The most delicious buffet breakfast. I feel that the hotel put a lot of thoughts into the breakfast selection and choices are interesting and delicious . It was the most memorable part of my trip.

We were upgraded to a beachfront room, then with notice had to move for our last night.
The room we were moved to was below the level we booked. It all worked out, although I would have preferred to be in one spot the 4nights we stayed at Zazen.
We enjoyed the access to the beach, we had great massages, and I would say the breakfast were excellent.

Perfect 2 nights on Koh Samui

The stay at Zazen was amazing. The room was fantastic and the nearby Bo Phut fisherman's village was great. We began every morning with a fantastic breakfast overlooking the Zazen beach and would venture around Koh Samui from there. The hotel staff was very friendly and the room kept clean. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. The room was comfortable and relaxing and perfect for a romantic trip.

Absolutely perfect

We stayed at Zazen for only 2 nights but it was an awesome time. The hotel staff is very friendly at all time and tries to figure out a solution for any problem. We were overwhelmed by the welcome on our first day, that had been prepared with little notes in the room, an invitation to a cocktail hour with the manager on the next day, and a German speaking hostess who showed us around after our arrival. The hotel facilities and the room are perfect, very neat and clean. The food at the restaurant is GREAT, and the prices with regard to the quality of the food also reasonable. Breakfast did not leave any wishes open. A little minus is that the area around the resort is nothing really special though, you have to take a taxi to get anywhere around at Samui (and the prices for transportation are quite expensive for Thailand). But if you want to get some rest and just enjoy great food and awesome service, I would recommend the resort without restriction! I will definitely go back again if I come to Koh Samui in the future.

Stayed in one of the beachfront suites (#2) The hotel is great and the service was terrific. We loved being right on the beach. The room was compact, but very nice, and well done. Great outside shower as part of the bathroom. The entire property is very quiet, but there's enough people around that it doesn't ever feel dead. The hotel is peaceful, modern, and has a very strong Thai SPA feel to it, which my wife and I really appreciated. Everything was clean and really well maintained. Would definitely consider staying there again and for anyone looking in this price range my sense is that this place would be hard to beat. We spent the second half of our stay at a very high end place also on Koh Samui (4x daily rate) and in some ways I found the overall atmosphere at Zazen to be better. High recommend.

5 star for a reason

High quality hotel that prides itself on 5 star rating. Staff are trained to a high standard and very attentive, bed is very confortable, was upgraded on arrival to a sea view villa, room number 1 next to the bar, pool area but this did not bother us as limited people moving around the room. Food is a high standard and the cost is in line with the quality. Used the free bikes, failed to check the front wheel side wall of tire had a hole which let the tube burst and require us to get a taxi back, management were apologetic but did not offer to refund the taxi cost. Small pool, beach and the water are the most disappointing aspect. Lost hot water on check in, fixed very quickly, no other issues.

From the moment we arrived to the end of our stay we were greeted by the staff and our every need met. The rooms are beautiful, big and comfortable and we had everything we needed. The massages are an experience in itself. The attention to detail is amazing and even sitting by the pool we were looked after with cool wipes and fruit. The restaurant food is amazing and the deserts are a work of art. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone , you wont want to leave!
