Umaya is a beautiful resort with everything we needed. Bedrooms, full kitchen, large living room and could walk right out to the beach. They had a lovely pool with swim up bar and a nice restaurant across the street. It was close to restaurants and bars but we did need to drive to them as the road is busy and no sidewalks. Would stay here again.

The resort is beautiful, everyone was very kind and very helpful. My only complaint is that I booked an ocean view room and they instead put me in a lagoon room. When I requested to have my room changed they said it would be an additional charge for an upgrade, although that is originally what I paid for was the ocean view room.

Spacious 2 Bedroom unit. Was on a ground floor which we were initially disappointed with, but the advantage of stepping directly out to the pool compensated for that. Items of note - the oven is disabled on the stove/oven - disappointing to reheat their great pizza in a microwave, but expect it is a safety/fire concern. Beach and pool area was well maintained - definitely glad we chose the ocean side of the resort. Would definitely return!

The resort was beautiful. We stayed in one of the Villas and it was amazing. The only thing that can use some improvement is the resort food. Breakfast was ok and lunch and dinner no thank you. Other than that our stay was perfect.

Our group of two couples spent a week in a villa on the beach side of the Umaya Resort and absolutely loved it. The unit was nicely appointed and truthfully feet away from the Caribbean Sea. Anytime we had a concern they were very prompt to respond. They transferred us to and from the Placencia Airport free of charge. While there we ordered dinner through the Fyah Beach Bar, pizza at Don Tonito's and breakfast in their Casa de Maiz restaurant. All were very delicious food. We also booked two of our excursions through them with great communication from them. The only thing we would recommend for them to make improvements on would be to provide dish cloths, towels and pot holders in the kitchen. We will absolutely book our next Belize vacation at the Umaya Beach Resort!

Our two bedroom, two bathroom top floor corner unit with spacious and ideal for two couples. The view was fantastic! We enjoyed the delicious birthday dinner at the restaurant our first night there, and Rosa produced a beautiful Slice of birthday cake as a special treat. Having a hotel on both beachfront and inland waterway is a bonus, both sides provide extraordinary views. We also enjoyed a relaxing couples’ massage. We found the staff friendly and accommodating, the drinks delicious, and we enjoyed time on the lounges on the beautiful beach. Rum punch was favorite beverage to cool off in the afternoons. We enjoyed the location of Umaya, taking walks along the waterfront, as well as driving into Placencia. We highly recommend this lovely hotel.

The villa was very comfortable and had an amazing view. We couldn’t have asked for better. All the staff we met were very polite and nice. We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to family and friends. We really liked the shuttle into Placencia village. Very convenient for us because we didn’t have a rental car. Love our entire stay.

The resort is located in a beautiful area. The view is astonishing and the staff is amazing, however the rooms are too outdated and cleanness is not good enough for the price. This is definitely not $250 a night quality hotel. The room that we got appeared not to be cleaned prior. Bedsheets were dirty and WAY too old with stains and both beds appeared to have been just made without having bedsheets replaced. The balcony area was dirty and unkept. The service is great but amenities and condition of the resort is extremely poor for the price. I would not be staying here if i knew it was this outdated. Very disappointed.

We loved our stay at umaya. The beach is awesome. The whole pool area/chairs/dock and set up are awesome too. So great that you can also borrow Kayaks and paddle boards (which we did) to have morning paddles when the ocean is calmer. The room was spacious and clean. The hotel itself is beautiful, the staff helpful and accommodating and the food at the hotel was good as well. There are also many restaurants and a supermarket (10 min drive) close to umaya without having to always make the drive into Placencia town (about 20/25mins) Oh those speed bumps! We would for sure come back to umaya again as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Umaya Resort is the perfect blend of comfort, location, and laid-back beach vibes. With a bakery, fruit stand and several award-winning beachfront restaurants a short walk away, no car is needed.

The property itself is fantastic. We loved spotting starfish and stingrays off the dock.

We enjoyed the complimentary paddle boards and kayaks, sunrise walks along the beach and the smoothie bar. Our unit had a full kitchen, great air conditioning and plenty of hot water.

Peaceful, scenic, and incredibly convenient; would absolutely stay here again.

Good location for sightseeing at the top of the Placencia isthmus. Spacious guest rooms. Nice sandy beach and large pool with swim up bar. Attentive staff. Beautifully plated food which was mostly tasty (a few misses on the menu and also missing ingredients).

Everything was great up until we asked to get a shuttled ordered two days in advance to the airport for 6 am.
At 6:15, we were still waiting. Talked to staff that was there (cooks, security) and everyone was like idk. So that was nice and we had to stand on the side of the road and hitch hike because every taxi place we tried to call, wouldn’t answer.
If you’re not going to order something, at least could have left us know and I would have figured something out. Almost missed my flight and I had 3 connecting flights all close within each other and it would have messed up my whole day

We found hair in the beds and shower before we had used it. The welcome community was great. But once we checked in the service wasn't that fast. We had to wait quite awhile till someone unlocked the canoes and water boards. Other than that it was a great little get away. And we would come back again.

I booked an ocean view room and the room I was initially given was a lagoon view. I had to show them my reservation to prove that I was supposed to be in an ocean view room. They did give me an ocean view room the next day. The refrigerator in the kitchen had water and ice in the door but it didn’t work because it was hooked up. The jet tub wasn’t working so basically just a bathtub. The dock was great for getting in the water but impossible to get out of the water! Plus the dock was not in very good condition. The toilet plugged up (not my fault) and the maintenance guy said he needed to turn on a pump or something but it did work fine afterwards. Bed was not very comfortable. I did like the patio. The Security Guards were very friendly and made regular rounds on the property.

Our family stayed on the beach side, in one of the 3 bedroom villas. It was perfect for our family of six. We enjoyed the easy direct beach access, sitting in the hammocks on our porch, and swimming at the two pools. Sargassum is a problem along the entire peninsula, so we didn't swim much in the beach. When we did swim at the beach, the property had paddleboards and kayaks that we got to use.

The property overall felt like a tropical oasis. The ambiance at the Laguna restaurant was romantic and family friendly. You'll definitely need a car if you plan to go into Placencia town often. The only negative thing about the property was the main pool needs refurbishing - chipped paint and missing tiles. But I would definitely stay here again!

Umaya is a great place to stay if you want to just relax. The food options are limited but they do have a good dinner. The down side is that it is far from the main village of placencia and they only offer two times of free transport otherwise you have to pay.
Rooms were clean and spacious…we love how our room was right off the beach and pool.

Beautiful lobby and restaurant area. Great beachfront pool bar. Super, super basic kitchen utensils - spatula and dull knife and incomplete utensils for 4 but plates and cups were ok. Ice tray unfilled and no ice. Room not ready at check in, dirty hallways for 3 days. Would not return, invest in property nor recommend despite the beautiful views and amazing lobby / restaurant area. We were so looking forward to staying but disappointed.

I liked the resort overall. The dislike was that they advertise a pool and pool bar, with a small wood fired pizza restaurant by the pool. One evening they closed the bar early around 5:00ish and were closing the pool at 7:30 due to a slower day. Our family had come back from the day excursion looking to hang out the rest of the evening to use the pool and pool bar and eat at the restaurant. One of the things I consider when booking a vacation is pool availability. It was very disappointing. I felt cheated in that I pay for those amenities, and they closed them because they felt there weren't enough people to make it available until their normal close time with no regard for the visitors interested in the pool, pool bar and pizza restaurant.

This was better than described! The staff went above and beyond to make my stay a great one even A sorting out a day of tours for me. Everyone from the workers to the kitchen staff to the pool people truly care about the resort and their guests. I’ve had such an amazing experience. I can’t wait to go back. Highly recommend if you want a place to go recharge enjoy some sun shopping pool and more. The food was also incredible. Eating at this resort was more than a meal. It was an experience. This is a hidden gem in Belize.

I stayed for 4 nights and had a wonderful time. The resort is a distance from placencia town so if you wanna save money on transportation to town you have to book the free shuttle service that the hotel runs daily. The hours for this service are 10am & 2:30pm. Meals at Umaya in my opinion are overpriced and the chef needs to be replaced as the food is not very good and the portions are way too small for what you pay for. Overall, if you want peace & quiet and good relaxation then definitely choose Umaya.

Our stay was highly influenced by the resort charging for 2 rooms instead of 1. I RESERVED ONE ROOM. If this is resolved then the review would be very different. The resort and staff are very good, the restaurant is convenient and very good. The room was wonderful.

Could use a few more railings as floors get slippery when wet.
Food was excellent.
Beach was beautiful but found a few glass and plastic bottle pieces in sand, Not good for bare feet.
2 lovely and clean pools for non sea swimmers.

It’s a great location and service. It’s our second time staying at Umaya and enjoyed our stay. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The spa and the massage are super relaxing. Overall I recommend.

The cons - wish the restaurant and pool bar would stay open at least until 10:00pm. Restaurant closes at 8:00pm and pool bar even earlier. Wish there was a fitness center.
The pool and some of the rooms could use a makeover.

The staff is not welcoming or warm. We couldn’t flush our toilets for 6 days so we had to use the lobby bathroom. When asked for them to fix it, the maintenance guy showed up with a plunger and plunged for about 15 minutes and then just walked out. Still not fixed we called every day and they kept sending the same guy with the same plunger. Last night we were there we had no running water. Called the desk to ask about it and the phone was busy. I walked down and saw the person at the front desk keep picking up the phone and hanging up without saying anything. The pizza place by the pool had a lady who was amazingly rude to my wife and kids. She tried to say she couldn’t order food because we weren’t staying there which is not true. When checking out they tried to double charge me for taxes. They proceed to say they couldn’t take them off without manager approval. They didn’t know where the manager was. No resolution.

Everything was Perfect!

Wonderful stay for our family of 8 from 3 generations. The accommodations were large, clean & well stocked. Everything worked. Full kitchens in each unit! Location was right on the beach with 2 swimming pools, 2 restaurants & bars. They drove us to downtown Placencia & on tours, snorkeling & cave river tubing. Great stay!

We really enjoyed our stay at Umaya. We rented a villa and enjoyed it. It was clean, spacious and comfortable. The grounds were clean, and the staff was fantastic. The front desk was friendly, and everyone else was super helpful when needed. We particularly enjoyed meeting Harry, on security, who kept watch over the place in the evening. Everyone here - customer service, grounds keeping, security, etc., was just really great to deal with. It was our first trip to belize and we'll definitely return.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Umaya Beach resort. The staff was friendly and helpful. Accommodations were clean and comfortable. It was a very calm, quiet, and relaxing stay which is what we were seeking. Enjoyed the use of kayaks and paddleboards. Staff arranged excursions and transport to and from the airport as well as a daily shuttle into Placencia. Everything we were looking for in a vacation!

We stayed in an oceanfront 2 BR which was nice-hammocks on the patio and you could walk to the beach. Fairly modern setup. But we discovered a patio door wouldn’t lock so that definitely detracted from several hours on our first day since we didn’t feel comfy going far when anyone could walk in off the beach to
Steal our stuff til it was fixed. The weather was very windy so it was hard to enjoy the beach (let alone snorkel) and the pools were unheated. The restaurant options on the property were disappointing (overpriced and not great. And the pizza place by the pool wasn’t even open on Mondays.)
We had a child get sick and needed to extend our stay and the staff could not have been less helpful. They made us move with a vomiting child to another room that was frankly subpar given the price-$20 less than our standalone beachfront cottage to an upper floor condo unit with holes in the screens, non working balcony lights, no drinking glasses, initially non-functioning AC and the strong smell of mildew. It did have a view of the beach. No offers to help find a local doctor or pharmacy. No trying to let us stay in the same place given the circumstances. They just tried to move us as fast as possible. As a frequent traveler I have higher expectations for a property that bills itself as more of a luxury set-up. The place felt empty too. I’m not convinced this place is worth returning to. They are attempting high end but not achieving it.

I didnt like the furniture in the rooms, the seat cushions were uncomfortable and the furniture on the balcony was hard.

Overall i enjoyed my time there and would recommend this resort to anyone looking for a relaxing experience.

We stayed here with our family of five over Christmas and had a wonderful time. We really appreciated that the hotel offered a free shuttle twice a day so that we could go to the grocery store or into Placencia. My husband and I got couples massages at the hotel spa, which were fantastic. Our three teenage kids enjoyed the beach and the pool, and loved playing beach volleyball. We really loved the breakfast at the restaurant at the hotel. Our favorite dinner, however, was at the Maya Bistro, which is a short walk down the beach. It was absolutely delicious! The hotel also made it very easy to book excursions. We went snorkeling and also took the Monkey River tour, where we got to see howler monkeys. It was amazing! We stayed in a two bedroom lagoon view room, and it was gorgeous. We loved seeing all of the wildlife from our balcony, including many different kinds of birds. The entire resort was very peaceful and laid-back, a perfect relaxing vacation. The rooms are equipped with a kitchen, which has all the basics to cook your own meals, which did save us some money. It’s also good to know that you can use American dollars or Belizean dollars in Belize. Also, if it is your first time visiting Placencia, just know that you will need to take a short flight from Belize city to Placencia. You can book on either Maya air or Tropic air. This was a wonderful first visit to Belize and we hope to be back!

This resort was modern and comfortable. We had a nice 2 bedroom with a kitchen and living room. It was nice they provided us daily with good coffee for our coffee maker. The bed was very comfortable and the only drawback to us was the bathrooms are small. Everyone working at the resort was kind and accommodating. I found the restaurant onsite to be kind of sleepy but the food was good. Within a 10minute walk there is a small grocery store, a few more restaurants and a gift shop. They had a complementary shuttle to town twice daily.

Amazing view from our room, the restaurant had a variety of chooses on their menus, the food was delicious, and the staff were friendly/helpful.
I would definitely recommend this resort if you are looking for a quite and relaxing vacation. I am planning to return with our family.

We had 2 bad meals at Laguna restaurant
The pizza was very doughy
We were kind of bored
It’s expensive for a cab - really can’t walk far
Told there was a shutttle 2 x a day but did start until 12/2 and it doesn’t pick you up
Great beach location but would not return

My room had roaches and Black ugly spiders. I saw 3 spiders, 1 in my bathroom.. 1 in my bedroom near my shoes and 1 in the floor in the kitchen. 2 medium and 1 large spider. Told the front desk to fumigate my room in the morning and they didnt. Came back to my room rhat night and saw more spiders. Asked to remove the spiders and the front desk told me they dont bite and its gonna be okay to stay in the room for the night. After telling the hotel ill sleep in my rental they were cohorts into changing my room to 1 above the spider infested room. I didnt sleep and left the hotel. They never offered me a refund and just didnt care. I give them an astrist not a star. Im petrified of spiders and have aracnaphobia. This wasnt handled well at all. Ill never ever stay there again. Shame on expedia for recommending this place to tourist. I want a dull refund. This was beyond horrible and extremely poorly handled. They sent security to smash the spiders with a stick. How pittyful.

The property was nicely located if you’re looking for a good place to chill and relax. Our suite overlooked the pool and the ocean. Staff was friendly as well. Location is about a 20 minute taxi drive from Placencia Village and about 35 minutes via golf cart. Wasn’t the most luxurious place I’ve ever stayed but it was perfectly fine.

Property was beautiful, staff incredibly kind and genuine. Beach bar and pool is gorgeous. Only complaint is the bed in our master was a bit hard for our liking. Other than that it was amazing!

The space was lovely and had great view of the ocean from our villa. The villa was clean and had all necessary amenities needed. The complimentary cocktail was amazingly delicious. My family had a blast with the complimentary kayaks and paddle boards. The staff was helpful, pleasant and attentive. The breakfast and lunch was great.

They were very accommodating and helped plan some amazing tours for us to enjoy. The only downside is the dining options. The food is not great so take care when ordering, but there are a lot of really good options around there within walking distance.

Our room was clean, but needed attention. Oven did not work, bathroom sink stopper stuck closed caused the sink to hold water, bathroom toilet roll holder was broke. Staff was great, food was good, do need transportation if you stay nothing close to walk to.
