The property itself was beautiful, but the pool was only open until 6pm. The restaurant was only open until 7 and there was nothing to do after 7pm. This property needed to have someone at the front desk/ maintenance available 24/7. We went to check out at 6am and there was no one available to check us out. We called the front desk a few times for differe t reasons and there was no answer.

The resort is building a new event center (metal construction), new pool bathrooms as well as remodeling rooms. All the constructions make it very unpleasant to stay around the pool and also the beach. The rooms that are not remodeled are very dated and overpriced!
Due to the algae in the water it is not pleasant to swim in the water.
The staff were friendly but not very competent!
Avoid this resort if you want a quiet and peaceful vacation but even without the construction, we would not go back to this resort.

The issue was the location and distance from activites. The shuttel was only available 3 or the 7 days were there and even than it cost $20 USA for each person.
Food was good but it was on the spendy side. The $117.00 facility use fee was also a bit of a shock.

The room cleanliness was very good. The housekeepers did a great job.
The room it self needs attention to several items.
1. The electrical wall plug-in in the kitchen did not work on the back wall.
2. The electrical wall plug-in on the side wall next to the sink did not work.
3. The left closet in the bedroom - the clothes bar is on the ceiling about 7 feet up. I am not kidding. The hangers are there on it but impossible to reach and I am 5'7\".
4. The right closet in the bedroom - again the clothes bar is on the ceiling about 7 feet up. I AM NOT KIDDING! tHE HANGERS

Unfortunately, this resort wasn't worth what I paid. There was black mold in the shower, stains on the towels and bedding, loud construction on premises, and it took two hours and 3 phone calls to get a roll of TP sent to the room. We didn't swim in the pool or ocean but the pool and beach appeared to be well kept. The restaurant employees were the absolute best (hi Carlyle and Randy!). Id say besides being located on a piece of paradise, the restaurant employees were the only good thing about this place. I would not stay here again.

We had an Oceanview room on the first floor and the view from the front porch was outstanding - maybe 50-75’ of beach to the water from the front sidewalk. There were half a dozen palapas spread out on the beach in front of the rental units and the HUGE pool that has a swim-up bar. The pier goes out to the hotel restaurant, which looks very new, with updated decor and a very professional and courteous staff. They are in the process of renovating rooms and adding a conference center, but the construction really didn’t bother us. The pool umbrellas and lounge chairs are a little tattered, but are probably on the list to be replaced during the reno. Overall, an excellent experience!

The room was in poor condition; broken blinds, chairs patched with duct tape, and an overall sense of neglect. The staff was aloof and seemed uninterested in helping. Our reservation was for three adults, yet the bathroom had only two bath towels and one hand towel, one of which was old and frayed. There was also just a single roll of toilet paper for 3 females. The phone in the room didn’t work, so we requested additional towels and toilet paper through WhatsApp no fewer than ten times. We even went to the front desk, only to be told that the hotel was full and they didn’t have more towels because they were “still drying.” The three of us are experienced world travelers, and we have never encountered service like this at a \"resort\". Their only restaurant is overpriced, and the food is mediocre at best. The one positive feature was the pool.The resort is far from the village, and the hospitality, customer service, and communication are severely lacking. The “queen” beds are, at best, double beds. Housekeeping also lacks common sense: they removed used soap and hand towels but didn’t replace them. The shuttle service is unreliable, so hiring your own taxi is the only dependable option. Otherwise, you’re stuck 15-30 minutes away from the restaurants, shopping and an ATM. Transportation costs $60 BZD roundtrip (cash only) for 3 people. They offer complimentary airport transfers, but you'll need to request and confirm with them several times because again, they lack cust. Srvs.

Great stay staff were all wonderful room was clean and spacious. Restaurant was awesome both food and service. Pool was large has a swim up bar. We were welcomed on arrival by an alligator (leave him alone and he’ll leave you alone) and lots of Iguana’s. Would recommend renting a vehicle or golf cart the village is about a 30 minute drive.

The highlight of this property is the staff. Very friendly and helpful at all times. The property is going through an extensive property improvement renovation to become a Hyatt and the rooms although clean, were worn and dated. Guests should be aware that if they are expecting rooms to look like how they are presented on the Hyatt website, they will be disappointed. There is currently only one F&B option. The food is decent and the service was excellent. There is no gift shop or any other retail services on property at the moment. The property is in a quiet location with very nice, clean beachfront. It is one of the further properties from the village center. If you rent a golf cart, please be careful to get one with ample power or it will take over 45 minutes to get to the village. There is a resort shuttle but be mindful a lot of guests are using it and it can take time for drop offs/pick ups. Once the improvements are completed, I can see this property be a solid 4-5 star property.

Don’t book this hotel.

They charge luxury-level prices for a damp, dirty, badly maintained property with serious operational and hygiene issues. The room had a strong mold and moisture smell that made it uncomfortable to stay in. The bed linens smelled unclean, and the bathroom was disgusting—visible gunk on the shower and showerhead, almost no water pressure, and a poorly designed rainfall shower mounted so high that basic hygiene was difficult. The bathroom flooded every time we showered.

We also had bugs and small lizards in the room. Yes, it’s tropical—but at these prices, basic pest control should be expected.

Check-in was a major red flag: the staff member took photos of our IDs on his personal phone and sent them via WhatsApp. No explanation, no visible secure system. Completely inappropriate and concerning.

We paid extra to upgrade to the “panoramic suite,” which looked nothing like the online photos. No patio couch or table—just two hard wooden chairs with no cushions. Basic amenities were missing on arrival, including drinking glasses, and the outdated DVD-only TV didn’t even work properly at first.

The pool is advertised as open until 8 p.m., yet chlorine was dumped in around 7 p.m., making it unusable. Housekeeping woke us at 7 a.m. without being requested, and there were loud tile repairs at night.

The pier restaurant is wildly overpriced for what it is—$25 USD for a basic burger and $40 USD for chicken. The beach is full of weeds

The best of both worlds!
This property is stunning, and it really offered the best of both worlds. We were able to experience resort-style amenities and service, while enjoying the space of an AirBnB. Our suite was huge and gave us ample room to enjoy ourselves. It was nice to be able to cook some meals in the suite, although they could definitely stand to upgrade their kitchenware.
The pool is huge, and we really enjoyed the swim-up bar. The restaurant sits right on the water, and we were really impressed with the food there. The service is top-notch from the bar to the housekeeping staff.

*A note about the location: Placencia is a lot bigger than I realized. This property is in an area that is mostly just resorts and a handful of restaurants. A little further South is Maya Beach, which is quite nice. If you want to actually visit Placencia Village, it's a good 20-30 minute drive. So this is the perfect location for a relaxing, peaceful getaway. But if you want to be in the heart of Placencia, go further South.

Misrepresented Temu Hyatt

Placenta Resort was advertised as a Hyatt hotel but this definitely was not it. We entered the resort and saw that a massive construction renovation project was being undertaken, which resulted in a lot of noise both during the day and at night. The wi fi was very poor and not secure which we had to keep asking staff to fix. They said that someone would fix it, but no one ever did.

The rooms were clean and well kept, and staff was nice and helpful, but management was poorly run. The hotel was misrepresented as a Hyatt yet basic amenities such as the shower, WiFi, and “complimentary shuttle” and “laundry” cost an arm and a leg. The shuttle cost $150, and the hotel was $20 a load.

We will not be coming back and hope we can get a partial refund.

Truly stellar pool with three areas of different depths. This allowed children to play more freely while parents enjoyed the pool. Only complaint was limited food options with highly variable quality.

Note this area of Placencia has lots of sea grass and sargassum that washes up on the beaches daily. So depending on your level of comfort swimming in and around it, you may not be able to use the ocean. When it decays it smells heavily of sulfur.

When we ordered food the menu was so limited they didnt even have chicken wings. We had to end our stay early because of the inconvenience and how direty it was.

The physical resort was phenomenal. The two reasons I did not give it a five star were 1) that the water pressure in the showers were so low. I never felt clean and could not wash my hair properly, and 2) the hotel restaurant was more expensive than the local restaurants. The days we didn't prepare food in our kitchen, we had to leave the resort. If the prices had been comparable, we would have eaten at the resort more often. The food was delicious, just astronomically expensive. Everything else about the resort was amazing and the staff were so incredibly nice.

We truly enjoyed our week at the Placencia resort. The 3 bedroom suite was just right for our multi-generational family trip, the pool was fabulous fun, and the Pier restaurant is peaceful, beautiful, and serves delicious food.

I was disappointed to discover that, for what-ever reason, many of the promised amenities that had us choose this resort were not available during our time there:

For example, there is only 1 restaurant, there is little that's child friendly asidefrom the pool; the pool and the children's pool are the same thing, meaning our 5 yo had to swim around loud mouthed drunks in the afternoon, if there were laundry facilities we never found them, and the only water sport equipment was available.

Its clear the resort is being updated, but the work motto seems to be \"it looks okay if you don't get too close.\" Lovely, bright rooms and ancient lumpy futons to sit on; nicely tiled bathroom and grubby stained bathtub. Etc.

I would recommend the Placencia, and I would go back there. I justthink people should be fore-warned that the marketing exceeds the reality.

When we checked in, we were asked to pay a 40 US resort fee that we were not aware of when I booked so that was a sudden surprise. The prices at the restaurant were quite high. The beds were not the greatest. They were on wheels so they moved a lot.. but the pool was amazing. The water was warm. The staff was friendly and kind not usually the kind of place I stay, but I would go back for the pool.

The property is beautiful and the staff was very accommodating but it did not engulf the Belizean culture as I expected it would. The menu did not incorporate the traditional culture or have more than one Belizean option. Most of it was American food. There should be more of the culture and more things to do on the resort outside of the pool/dining. I wish there was more activities at the resort instead of trying to entertain myself most of the time. It was relaxing but I’d like to have fun on vacation too and creating that fun in an unknown area is difficult. I wish there were more food options for me to get to know the areas best things about it. More activities like a food tour provided by the resort like yoga just a celebration of the culture and that was not it.

For getting this hotel at a “VIP access” was nothing but a lie! The hotel was expensive, the room smelled musty, there was food marks left on the counters, the bathroom floor had bits of toilet paper left, the toilet seat was left open, the extra mirror light didn’t work, there was a broken towel rack pieces left over, one of the head lights were dangling out, our bed headboard was broken, the lamp was broken, and most importantly there reusable water tanks were always empty. When I told this to the front desk, they didn’t do anything. So I was just simply very disappointed for the cost for this resort and wish I would’ve gave my money to the local hotels.

I have been coming here for several years and it is a great property that is very poorly managed at the top levels. Things have broken and not replaced. The rooms are tired and needing upgrades. I know they are slowly working on making thing better, but talk is cheap. The restaurant on the pier is new, but way over priced for Belize. The people who work at the resort are fabulous. Friendly and eager to help with anything. It is the management that is bad. From the owner down. I would not recommend staying here until all renovations are done. Only then will I come back.

The grounds of the property were very beautiful and well kept. The iguanas were an added bonus as they were always hanging out in the tree to watch. It is right on the water and the beach was really nice. Beautiful sand and well groomed. However, there were tons of bugs and the bites made it almost impossible to lay in the beach chair. The rooms were older and there was a lot of mold in shower and bathroom area. The kitchen was missing some key items for cooking like a skillet and mixing bowl. The stove did not work and we called to get it fixed but no one came for the 6 days we were there. House keeping was not very good either. Some days very minimal cleaning was done, like emptying the trash but not replacing the trash bags. Two of the days house keeping was really good. We were there over Christmas so maybe they had a lot of staff off for the holiday. The restaurants were a big disappointment. There are not three of them. The is a pool bar where you can get drinks, a main restaurant which was often closed for dinner and when they were open they had few options because “that is not available today” and the third restaurant was alway open but had limited options because they were often out of stuff and they were more expensive than any other restaurant we went to. We ended up leaving the resort most days for dinner. There are some good restaurants not too far but you will need a car. Overall we were happy with the beach but the restaurants were a challenge.

I enjoyed my stay at the placencia... there was some confusion on my part since the hotel changed management. My partner problem is the issue with the hot water. We expected it to come on after a while however it did not. I like that there is a security guard and when we come in late from tours but they double checked that we live at the resort. I love the pier and the staff were friendly answering all our questions. Thank you for a great stay.

Very nice, but many improvements could be made.

We had a very nice stay here. Their grounds were well kept and the staff were lovely. The room was also very nice and spacious, and we even got an ocean front view.

I will say that the rooms need some maintenance. The towel racks and toilet paper holders were falling off the walls and the bathroom sink had a persistent drip. The tv’s in the room are also a joke, maybe 26” tvs at most, minor complaints but something they should consider looking into. We paid half price and had I paid the usual nightly rate, I would’ve been disappointed.

Their food and excursions are also very overpriced. They were charging 38 times the entry fee per person for a day excursion to the closest Mayan ruins, NIM LI PUNIT. We drove there in 50 mins ourselves and paid the basic entry fee to see them, no tour guide but all the interpretative signs were in English so we didn’t miss out on much and save A LOT of money by not doing their excursion.

In a nut shell, the grounds, pool and staff were all first rate, room was good but not great, but their excursions are extortion.

The Placencia Hotel boasts a sprawling compound and a gorgeous big pool, perfect for unwinding and soaking up the Belizean sun. The staff truly shines here – they’re friendly, helpful, and always willing to go the extra mile to ensure a pleasant stay.
While my overall experience was enjoyable, the restaurant menu could benefit from more variety. With a few more options, it would be even better.

Those were my first thoughts walking in on my first day. This Resort is well WORTH the money 💴. The PLACENCIA HOTEL is a ⭐️⭐️⭐️ RESORT. To be clear I am NOT a Beck & Call kinda person, nor will I ever be so I don’t need 4/5 star experiences to have a good time. I need: CLEAN ⭐️, SAFE ⭐️⭐️, and COMFORTABLE( conveniences) ⭐️⭐️⭐️. Anything more you start rackin up more stars 😊. The workers here are so down to earth nice & hard working & receptive( they are on it, when you’re asking.) You can see some maintenance & attention to detail things that will stand out. For instance we all know that ANY & EVERY Hotel has issues where things come up completely unexpected, correct?But in a 4/5 star experience it’s about how timely the situation is addressed & resolved, & they are also much more focused on presentation to some of the smallest details. Honestly, The Placencia Hotel Resort is just a couple of consistent things away from being a FOUR STAR experience. Here are the Answers to the 2 Big Questions that a person should be concerned with.
1) Would I stay here again? ( YES) 2) Would I recommend them to friends/ family. ( YES)

The outside grounds were impeccable. Pool area & landscaping were stunning. Rooms were very dated & worn out. Old, giant jet tub & broken tiles in bathroom. Dim, CFL bulbs in lamps. Not 1 single USB outlet in rooms.Large veranda with gorgeous views, but only 2 small, wooden beach chairs to sit in, but it was too hard to get in or out of, so we didn’t sit out there. Breakfast in restaurant was very good. Dinner at outdoor spot was just so-so. Pool staff was great. No shuttle working. Also, a 25 minute drive to village. No walking to village.

We had booked one additional night, and then the hotel cancelled us without notice because they were “booked” on our last night. If you are looking for a beautiful, private, quiet beach get away this is the place. The staff was very nice and friendly— truly they were a gem. Stayed during the week and it felt like we had the resort to ourselves, the pool and beach just steps away from our room. The cons: the resort is a bit dated, the food is good but a very limited menu and dinner is overpriced for what you get. The resort is far north of the village so you can’t walk anywhere (too hot), we got taxis to eat at other resorts nearby (~2 miles away) just to get some variety. The shuttle service didn’t really work for us but taxis were easy enough, just schedule your pick-up in advance before you leave.

We loved our stay at The Placencia. Truthfully, I was feeling a bit concerned after we booked and then I read other people’s reviews but I’m so glad that we never cancelled. The grounds were beautiful, the pool was amazing as was the beach and all the meals that we had were lovely. The staff truly went above and beyond and were very welcoming. We didn’t have great success with the WiFi but we didn’t go on vacation to be connected to the internet. Yes, the resort is about 20 minutes from Placencia but we really enjoyed the quietness of this place and we knew going in that it wasn’t right in the village. Best I can figure is that anyone who commented negatively about this place hasn’t done much traveling as if they had they would know this place is amazing. Yes, there is some paint touch ups that could be done but regardless the resort is still wonderful. The staff truly went out of the way to ensure we had a nice stay. The room was very clean as was every area that we saw. We will definitely be back!!

I’m guessing they prioritize their suites more

When I booked through this app they false advertised this resort as all inclusive. Eventually I found out there is an all inclusive option it’s just thousands of dollars more. From the moment I searched ‘all inclusive’ all the way until the moment I booked it kept telling me that I had the all inclusive option…. Get to the hotel, “you didn’t book the all inclusive ma’am that is an additional price”. Get to our room there is a swarm of mosquitos right above our entrance/door (I looked at others’ room and no one else had that problem). When I mentioned it to the front desk associate she recommended I “just keep the door closed”. However, a couple of days later I saw maintenance or whoever spraying someone’s patio area with something for the mosquitos. We originally booked a double queen room, the bed was on wheels, and was moving as well as one of the beds were almost caving in, not to mention the headboard was peeling/ bleeding and staining the pillows… The most beautiful inconvenience of it all was after we had got out the beautiful pool with the dope swim up bar, we went back to the room to shower, as we had dinner reservations in placencia town, and of course there’s not a drop of hot water coming from the shower… This is when we had went to front desk to demand a new room, as that was our last straw… The only room that was available was a suite, and they tried to have us pay the upgrade fee?? For our inconvenience?? Pay more?? Absolutely not, called manager, got suite.

It's showing it's age. The repairs made are basic and obvious, not quality you would expect.
The food was subpar for the price. I get that you are paying for the location and ambiance but really need to step up the food quality.
Lose all the fried foods, and hire chefs who know how to cook seafood. Ordered the platters and all of it was overcooked and the fish was rubbery.

The beach area is not wide or particularly nice sand, but the thatch shades on the beach are very nice. The water near shore is not clear, and not inviting for swimming.

The pool area and swim up bar are very nice. The rooms are clean and comfortable.

I saw very few actual guests here, which seemed odd.

Pool and staff were great. But VERY FAR from the main village with all the good cheap food. This hotel charges expensive prices, they automatically charge a tip and don’t tell you, all in American dollars, for crappy food. Must have a car, so you can dine in village. All restaurants there are nicely priced in Belize dollars, tip on your own, and good. Beds and bedding old and rooms are rundown, and showers need to be updated. Only positive, like I said, the pool is awesome and the staff was so sweet and friendly.

It’s a beautiful property and our stay was wonderful however our room had broken blinds, bad tv connection, no streaming services (we had a child with us) and the only option for our room type was facing a run down building and tennis court. The outside of the building needs some work and our balcony wasn’t very clean as there was hand marks and make up all over the door. Still enjoyed the stay and would consider returning.

portion options along with being able to choose lunch options along with entree choices for dinner menu. We had such a wonderful trip and would definitely recommend and will stay here again when I travel back to Belize.

Nice pool but run-down room

Our stay at the Placencia was ok. My biggest frustration was not seeing a way to book tours through the hotel in advance of our arrival, only to have the tours be sold out when we arrived. Luckily we found a place in the village able to take us snorkeling on the reef. The room itself was actually pretty comfortable despite being in somewhat rough shape (broken blinds and burnt out light bulbs). The comforter also had some brown stains on it when we arrived, but that was replaced immediately after I reported it so I did appreciate that. The grounds of the resort are beautiful and the pool was perfect, but the food options are really limited and pretty meh. Trying to get to other food options is also difficult since the shuttle only has 1 stop and only goes by there every 3 hours (which is a long time to kill if you're just going into town for a meal).

The pictures did not reflect the condition of the rooms and the resort itself. It was run down, not clean, mold in the bathtub, broken and missing window screens. The air conditioning didnt work properly and overall the resort needed a ton deferred maintenance. We would never recommend this place.

For a resort it was meh

The resort is run down like the online pics don’t match what you get. We moved rooms 2 times. The first the room smelled of mold really bad. The second move they moved us to a beautiful room but the ac died after one day. And the temp inside got to 82 before they moved us again. As the ac had to be replaced no one’s fault it’s the Caribbean. The pool is very beautiful and they were in the process of re-tiling the bar. Food is priced in American dollars even though all the other resorts in the area are in Belizean dollars. We felt it was a bit high it was what you’d pay in the states. We also tried ordered room service which they asked if we would come to the restaurant to pick up our order. That they were too busy with other things. Seemed to defeat the purpose of room service. The grounds are very nice and everyone who works there are very friendly. I think we heard the owner was in some kind of law suit with his partner from the last five years. Which explains the disarray of some of the rooms. They are actively making fixes so perhaps it settled. Either way it will probably up to snuff in the next year as they make updates.

Resort was advertised as a four star. However the rooms are quite dated and need upgrades.

The resort was beautiful and the staff was friendly and professional. It was an enjoyable week and I will definitely go again. We arrived after the dinoing room had closed but the staff opened to feed us as it had been a long trip.

The only problem, and it wasn't a big one, was it was advertised as a free shuttle from the airport. However, the shuttle from the international airport only arrives and departs once a day. I would recommend taking the hopper which is only a 15 minute flight.
