Staying in a gorgeous renovated Parador is a real treat. The history is incredible and to see these old buildings restored as boutique hotels is a wonderful idea. Car park was quite tight to turn into behind the Parador. Gorgeous old hilltop town to explore. Plenty of bars and eateries. Our room looked over the river with France on the other side and the marina. We’ll return for sure!

Called 1 day after the cancel by date as we couldn’t reach them (still early enough that they could open up the booking to others) and they refused to refund. Other even small family run hotels understood but this bigger corporation stuck to a technical deadline and didn’t seem to care that we were dealing with an emergency hospitalization. Was hoping to stay another time but not after such terrible business practices and bad customer service.

This has now gone down on our favorite vacation ever!! The castle itself is amazing. We stayed 10 days and would have stayed more but they had no rooms. We were on the sixth floor ( only two rooms there) and had a two balcony’s. You can spend days just in the walled old town but we were actually just across the street from the River. Walked every place. If you have a chance…book it!!

Fantastic. It’s a little hard to get to if you’re driving but the staff makes everything as easy as possible and the place is gorgeous, food delicious, rooms attractive and very clean.

A beautiful castle-turned parador in Hondarribia
We were lucky enough to be able find a room in this beautiful parador in Hondarribia for our last night in País Vasco. Even more luckily, we were able to upgrade our room to a fabulous suite with a cute little terrace facing the river. The room was clean and large, and well-equipped. The staff was both friendly and helpful. The hotel building is well maintained and preserves its semblance as a castle very well. It has a beautiful court yard, and there we enjoyed the wine we bought from the hotel cafeteria and enjoy.

Hondarribia is a very pleasant town which is great as a base for the area whilst having some very good bars and restaurants. The parador hotel was very clean, service was very good and the rooms were comfortable. The negatives were:
1. Parking was an expensive 16 Euros per day.
2. Standard rooms were expensive but you did not have an external view. You overlooked the central courtyard.

Truly unique hotel in a beautiful town. The building is amazing, felt like I was in Game of Thrones episode. Breakfast buffet is continental style as you might expect with a great selection of breads, pastries, fruit and cheese. Also do some hot egg dishes. I had view of courtyard from room. Was pretty impressive. The room was warm and cosy. Only downside was bed was bit hard but I slept pretty well.

Although quite difficult to approach by vehicle and high on a bluff over town, this parador is spectacular. 1100 years old with awe-inspiring common rooms and real character. Hotel rooms are small and don't have air conditioning but do have ceiling fans. Location affords wonderful views of the bay across to France and has a very atmospheric village surrounding it. Rate was very affordable. Don't miss a look at the two meeting rooms, which look like they are right out of Game of Thrones, one of them adorned with tapestries by Rubens.

The Parador was a beautiful hotel to stay to enjoy the history and local cuisine of Hondarribia. It is only a short walk to the the restaurants, bars and harbour and the Old Town. Our room was comfortable and well appointed. The staff were friendly and attentive and breakfast was excellent.

To learn that the hotel was a previous castle dated back to the 10th century was an awesome feeling. All the amenities including free breakfast was enjoyable. The hotel had a lot of nice artifacts decorating the walls and the surroundings. There was also free parking which it made it really convenient knowing the town was quaint and small. Although, there was no air conditioning, the ceiling fan and open windows made the room very cool. You won't be disappointed staying at this magnificent hotel with lots of character and charm.

We loved what they did with the renovation of the castle to become a modern hotel with up to date facilities in a lovely location. Unfortunately, it was hard to drive to the Parador as access roads have been blocked for pedestrians only and not been updated on the GPS. This seems to be a common issue with staying in Paradors in Spain.

A gorgeous property in an old castle. The village is beautiful and charming, very quiet. Great hiking is a 20 minute drive up Jaizkabel despite the tourist info office having no details to share about hiking. Restaurant Alameda was recommended, a Michelin 1 star and 5 minute walk, and was amazing. Highly recommend and was a tremendous value. I would love to visit again!

Fun way to enjoy an old ruin
paradores are always a safe bet in Spain. While the rooms were small they were charming and the overlooking Terrace onto the sea was simply beautiful. Breakfast buffet was nice in town was really lovely.

Paid €275 for a superior room with a view. While the view was nice the room was far from superior! Having stayed in six other Paradors on this trip, this was the worst room and it was the only one that was \"superior\". The wifi didn't work and when I mentioned it on check out I got the by now standard Parador shoulder shrug....as if saying \"nothing to do with me, I only work here!\"

It's a beautiful old building, but with that comes a problem: no air conditioning . We would open windows , but it was too noisy from outside at night and unfortunately during the day the cleaner would close it even when we put a note not to enter to our room. That made us feel violated.

We could not have asked for a better visit than we had at the Parador de Hondarribia! Don't let the (ugly) exterior of the building fool you- inside it is remarkable! They have done a beautiful job renovating to the highest quality while maintaining the historic character and value of the building. Every salón we saw was prettier than the one before. A whole room full of Peter Paul Rubens tapestries??? Madre mía!! The staff could not have been nicer or more helpful, from start to finish. The entire hotel was spotless, the breakfast delicious, the bedding luxurious- everything perfect, as living in a castle should be! And the surrounding town was picture perfect- like a post card!

This Parador is beautiful in a magnificent setting, the receptionists are helpful, introducing good restaurants nearby which are to our satisfaction. However, one or 2 corners of our room # 2 was with certain smell, seemed from ducting or something soaked in water for long. And, in the morning you would wake up easily by the smell from Kitchen.
My friend who stayed at Room# 4 said that her floor near the bathroom created noise when you walked on it.
We checked in at noon, upon our return from dinner, our bed was not yet set properly in the first day, no linen covering the carpet, bed lining not yet removed.
After 8pm, no restaurants/pintxos house next to the hotel were opened. Luckily the cafe in the same premises served sandwiches & drinks.
Do request ground floor if you have bulky baggages even lift is available.
Despite the above, I really like this castle. The terrace with gorgeous view. And, the design for access to it is easy & the lift brought you up from the street is really helpful.

The hotel setting is one of a kind. It's a very old fortress that was converted to a beautiful 4 stars hotel. Everything was done to provide all the comfort you would expect from a luxurious hotel while maintaining the structure intact. It has great character and beautiful and tasteful decoration. The view from the windows is great as well. It is in a walking distance from all the attractions of this small town. The breakfast was superb as everything else in the hotel.

Great hotel to stay at in Hondarribia. The staff was wonderful and the building was beautiful. Only issue with the hotel is we were traveling as a couple and got two twin beds that hadn't been put together. Not a huge issue at all just be prepared.

A spectacular hotel with outstanding views but for me it was the staff that made our visit the more special. A member of our party was taken ill and is in a serious condition and the staff could not do enough for us, I would like to thank all the staff but especially fernando and maite for the exceptional service and help. I will be visiting this hotel again in the future and would recommend it anyone wanting to visit the area.

Wonderful location with great views of the marina and harbor in Hondarribia. About 15-20 minutes outside of San Sebastian. Historic castle and old walled town on a hill with pretty good food options in walking distance. Views from the terrace cannot be beaten.

We had an early morning flight and stayed because hotel is less than one mile from San Sebastian Airport. However, we found it is a beautiful historic property with magnificent hilltop view of the harbor. Sits right on plaza in charming walled city. Excellent restaurants are within walking distance. We chose this hotel as we thought it would be very special.. The rooms are very small and in need of refurbishment. They are in no way as beautiful as the decor throughout the hotel..the building being full of history is wonderful but the bedrooms leave much to be desired. Our room when we walked in had a definate aroma of a smoker..which went once the window was opened.
Parking is an issue.. The cost of the hotel room should include the cost of parking instead we payed 16 euro per night which we found to be extortionate. We would sadly not return to this hotel due to parking costs and lack of restaurant.

A night in an ancient castle. Fabulous experience. Excellent room, great views. They went out of their way to see that we could have some breakfast before our early morning flight. We loved this place.

The very old castle appeared upon the top of the hill as we drove along the river towards Hondarribia.
Access was limited by vehicle but even from the car park, a few stairs below the foyer level, the views accross to France were spectacular.
Checking in was a pleasure and when shown to our rooms we were thrilled.
Everything was delightful only to be topped by breakfast in the courtyard the next morning.

Great hotel with a remarkable history. One of the most picturesque courtyards and pleasant place for breakfast. Tricky figuring out how to activate the light to get access up one way street to access the hotel parking. View from the deck of the bay is the perfect place for cocktail at the end of a day touring.
