We stay at hotels over 60 days a year and have done so for the last 30 years plus. In that time, we have probably checked out early of 3 hotels. This is one of them.

I totally feel for the staff who are fielding complaints. It is not there fault. The hotel feels unfinished, like they have run out of money. In fact there is no road yet to the hotel. The main issue is that the walls are paper thin. By this, I mean tbat you can hear conversations outside the room at the far end of the corridor. When you ontroduce squelling children and people having a party, expect to have no sleep. My wife is on chemo and rest is very important, we requested a quiet room but it was impossible to sleep. The noise is not just from the side rooms but above and below as there is zero sound insulation. It geeks like you are all sleeping in one big hall. The bathroom is poorly finished and dirty. The bath flexes when you stand on it.
We left after one night and had yo repurchase another hotel...it was that bad. The hotel refused a refund. Breakfast is dire.

I thought the room and property were quite nice, new building and beautiful. However, the expensive dinner I had tasted mass produced: frozen burger patty, air fryer fries, soufflé from a box. For the price I think it’s overvalued, I liked the view but this was too high for the quality. Service was also slow.

Our stay at Design Suites Hotel in El Calafate was absolutely fantastic—easily one of the best places to stay in the area. The highlight? Without a doubt, the breathtaking view of Lake Argentino. If you’re booking, make sure to reserve a room facing the lake—it’s truly unforgettable, especially at sunrise and sunset.
The hotel itself was spotless, well-maintained, and very comfortable. The staff went above and beyond to be welcoming and helpful, making the entire experience even more enjoyable.
We also found that having a rental car made a big difference. It gave us the flexibility to easily access the main street in El Calafate and explore the surrounding areas without any hassle.
Overall, a perfect blend of comfort, scenery, and convenience—highly recommended for anyone visiting Patagonia.

Relaxing hotel with the best views of the Lake. Great to have a fulsome breakfast in a bright, open space. The staff was super helpful and friendly. While the location is out of town, due to the proximity to the lake, the shuttle service helps you get back and forth easily.

Excellent base for exploring Calafate region, but a little outside main town, so reliant on 10 min trip by shuttle (pick ups twice a day in or out of town), or 45 min walk to centre along lake.
Hotel was wonderful - really friendly, responsive staff, great facilities and restaurant, clean, well designed rooms, good pool, great views over lake.

Amazing views are worth the 10 min drive away from town. The hotel is clean and staff is attentive. The pool is perfectly heated! HUGE bathrooms!!! Loved my stay! Lots of doggies around the property to love on.
Only issue was the food. Horrible!!! If they can fix the food id give them 5 stars. Our steak was tough as rocks, the breakfast isnt even worth it. Stale bread.

The hotel is in desperate need of a full renovation. I would say is a 2 stars hotel, definitely not 4. The walls are thinner than paper. You can hear everything that’s happening in the room next, above and under you. It was almost impossible to rest with so many kids running in the hallways, yelling and screaming and the parents or the hotel staff wouldn’t do nothing about it. The price per room VS what you get is totally a ripoff. The breakfast buffet was very poor. I wouldn’t stay here again.

I liked that we were able to text the front desk via Whatsup to help us get taxis from downtown to get back to hotel even past 10pm. Food prices at the hotel restaurant are very reasonable but not the best. The breakfast selection was good. You’ll have to take a taxi to get to and from town. The hotel shuttle service (taxi that they call and pay for you) runs 4x per day (10am, 6pm to town; 12pm, 8pm from town back to hotel).

The management of this hotel left much to be desired. The recurring issue with room keys was not only inconvenient but frustrating, as it disrupted the flow of my stay. Having to make repeated trips to the front desk just to access my room was certainly not what I expected from an establishment of this caliber.

Furthermore, the absence of a basic amenity like ice for drinks was perplexing. It's a standard expectation for hotels, and the oversight gave the impression of a lack of attention to detail. The limited food options, coupled with the absence of a diverse menu, fell short of the standards typically associated with a 4-star rating. The overall experience left me questioning the hotel's commitment to providing a comfortable and enjoyable stay for its guests.

The hotel was a bit run down and very bare-bones. There was an electric kettle in our room with no mugs, tea or instant coffee. The carpet in our room had many stains.

The pool was rather disappointing - the steam room was broken, and one had to check out towels and return them to the lobby (not in the same area as the pool.) The pool is quite small and barely heated.

The staff was fine - did not really go out of their way to be welcoming or helpful.

Gorgeous views, two big flaws

This hotel *seemed* like a smoking hot deal. And we did love our stay and would recommend it to friends overall. But there were two really stupid and frustrating things that caused significant trouble.

First, the staff were all lovely and helpful. The best part of the hotel are the incredible views of Lake Argentina and the beautiful snow-capped peaks on the far side. That makes staying here alone worth it. The beautiful design of the hotel, including an incredible dining room and lobby area are the cherry on top.

We also found the bed comfortable and the crib for our 2 year old was the best we’ve had at any hotel, primarily due to the great bedding. Most hotels provide no or very bad bedding for cribs.

But the two terrible aspects of the hotel, which are both quite tragic as they’re easily preventable with slightly better management were this:
1. Terrible thermostat management. There’s some kind of hotel wide thermostat (I think heated floors) that by default leave the rooms a ROASTING 26 C (or 79 F). This is uncomfortably hot and we had to routinely shed all our clothes to be comfortable in the room. The front desk finally showed us how to blast the AC at 16 C to get the room tolerable for the times the AC could keep up. Housekeeping kept turning off AC, had to hide remote.

2. Unusable Wi-Fi. This was particularly frustrating as I had some work I had to do. So I ended up paying an extra $50 USD for a bunch of data from my US cell phone provider to tether with my phone.

Poor choice in a nice town

Wonderfully designed hotel that has slipped incredibly. The first room we were given had teo cracked windows. Drapes it both rooms were held together with tape. Bright spot: Francisco at the front desk. Don't think the carpets have been cleaned since it opened sixteen years ago. Thin walls. The place would be fantastic if it had a huge cleaning and repair. Hard to enjoy the views in that room.

We really enjoyed our 2 night stay. The view of the lake from our room was incredible! The room was nice, spacious, and clean. The restaurant was great, we ate breakfast there both mornings and dinner there one night following a long hike. The bartender was exceptionally lovely. Many reviews noted the distance from the main part of town, but we walked to dinner one evening along the lake and found it very enjoyable. And the cab ride home cost ~$5 USD. We definitely would stay here again.

The property is about 3kms out of Calafate but we had a hire car and knew in advance and chose to eat at the hotel every night and the food was good, very large quantities and reasonably priced.
Our disappointment with the property was the Wi-fi was very intermittent . We had room 225, the last room on the main floor and the drain grill in the bathroom constantly smelled unless we ran the water in the bidet or the toilet. Both issues were raised with reception but the situation did not improve.

While not a perfect stay, the magnificent views of Lake Argentina made up for any shortcomings. The room was spacious and comfortable as is the whole hotel. Generally the staff members were friendly and welcoming, especially the restaurant staff and Sonia at reception. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said of all reception staff who could definitely be unfriendly and unwelcoming. Most off putting was the gentleman on reception who was too busy with his text messaging to notice guests waiting for assistance: better to do this back office rather than behind the reception desk!

The breakfast offered canned fruit, the scrambled eggs were drowning in some kind of liquid and the bacon was almost raw. The restaurant floor at breakfast was really dirty! Do NOT stay in suite #109 as there is a huge security light on the wall right outside the window. All the suites on the first floor have a road that runs in front of the rooms.

This hotel could be really great if they fixed a few things. First the good points, nice location, great view over the lake, nice restaurant and bar and friendly staff.
Bad points rooms can get very hot but the staff can provide you with a fan which helps. Also the walls are so thin you can here your neighbours. Also dogs fighting and barking outside hotel each night.

The view is beautiful the front desk staff was very helpful particularly Ariel. The facility itself needs some TLC considering the price of the hotel. The carpet was old the bathroom smelled. The beds were not comfortable. The breakfast was not great and the waitstaff acted as though they were irritated every time we asked for something. Number one problem: We were quoted a reservation through Expedia and they change the price at the hotel to nearly $1000 more than Expedia told us.The facility itself

Questionable cleanliness and poor treatment

If you don't mind being sleeping in a less than clean room, feral dogs sniffing you at the entrance to the hotel and barking during the night, and unexpected charges then this is the place for you! Feral dogs can freely roam on this private property and can be heard directly in front of your hotel window and sniff you as you get out of taxis, etc. There was mold on the carpeting and the carpeting bubbled up in the room and the hallway and is a hazard and can easily be tripped upon. I was charged the 21% IVA even though I completed the requirements of the Ministry of Tourism to avoid paying it because my friend from Belgium had been in the country more than 90 days. The Ministry of Tourism only requires two things to not pay: foreigner in the country less than 90 days (me) and paying with a foreign credit card (me, again). The hotel has a different requirement that all hotel guests in that room be foreigners with less than 90 days in the country - this is not explained on the Orbitz website at all. I addressed these concerns at the hotel and was told to write them down. I was on vacation so needless to say I wasn't interested in writing the extensive list down until now.

Stayed here twice recently. Loved all the light and the views of the lake. Quick ride outside town, easy if you have a car.

Beautiful Views

Beautiful views of Lake Argentino. About a 7-10 minute drive to town. Easy if you have a car. Front desk was very helpful. Eat at La Tableta on their recommendation. Splurge for the Full Suite. It was worth it.

It was a nice Hotel 8 years ago.

Yes it was nice eight years ago, now it is in bad conditions almost everything, the beds and pillows are soft and uncomfortable, the bathroom deteriorated. The food in the restaurant bad and expensive.
It was a bad experience.

This hotel is wonderful all around. First off, the views of the lake are amazing and can be seen throughout the entire hotel. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated with many cozy nooks to relax and enjoy the scenery. The restaurant is amazing, we ate every meal there because we just could not get enough of the food. The entire staff is very warm and welcoming; they were all incredibly kind and helpful. A free shuttle is offered to take you into the center of town with multiple departure and pick-up times to help you explore town or get to your destinations. This hotel was one of my favorites that I have ever stayed in and I highly recommend it to anyone.

Great views, far from town

Great views, disappointing staff and room. Staff does not care at all about guests.

I was not welcomed nor asked how my stay was when leaving.

Good location

Location on Argentina lake is impeccable. Restaurant is very high quality. Service at the front desk is so-so - very little help. The only serious problem is absence of air-conditioning in our room - it was simply too hot because they continued heating the floor.
