My husband and I stayed at Merulana Inn Guest House for one night and had a pleasant experience. The room was small but cozy, and it had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.

Katerina at the reception was especially helpful and friendly, which made us feel very welcome. We also really appreciated the complimentary breakfast, such a nice extra touch. Overall, it was a lovely stay and a great option for a short visit.

The Meraluna Guest House was very pleasant and quiet. The room was not huge but was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was simple, with plenty to chose from including some very good cappuccinos. The best thing of all was the staff. They were helpful and generous with their time whether it was providing directions or sharing stories about the neighbourhood.

We needed a spot near the train station and this spot was a quick 7 minute walk on a nice street. Early checkin was a bonus. It checks all the boxes of clean, quiet, comfortable and safe. Karen at the desk was lovely. We left too early to catch the breakfast. The mini fridge was nice to have as well.

A really enjoyable stay. The location strikes the perfect balance - close enough to Termini for easy access, but situated in a calm, characterful neighbourhood rather than the chaos around the station. Rooms were comfortable and well-appointed. What stood out most, though, was the staff - genuinely warm and attentive. Karen and Elena in particular made every interaction a pleasure. Would happily return.

Rooms are very clean, staff is super helpful and very sweet! They even gave us some tips on where to eat and what to see. To me the most important thing is the cleanliness of the facility and the rooms and thats why I gave 5 stars. Location is convenient as well! One thing to improve would be to replace the shower curtains more frequently, everything else was perfetto!

Great location!

Walking distance to pretty much everything. (5-40 minutes of walk max to any major sighting, but it's worth it. You should be walking the streets of Rome anyway.)

The train station is about 8-10 minute walk to here. You do not need a taxi, and it's perfectly safe to walk with your luggage in that area.

The staff is extremely sweet too. They will let you store the luggage if you get there before your check in time, but do ask them first.

The location is good because it’s very close to the train station. The room was basic but cleaned. On the first night, I noticed that the shower curtain at the bottom had mold on it, and I was going to complain. But when I came back from Exploring the next day, I noticed that the shower curtain had been replaced. So the cleaning people saw it on the second day and replaced it, which was good. The breakfast is very good. And the staff is friendly and helpful.

The staff was very welcoming and helpful. The location was perfect for anyone wanting to walk to and from Termini station. It's a relatively easy walk to the Colosseum and a relatively easy walk to most restaurants in the area. The property is not fancy but location wise it is worth the stay. Merulana Inn is a small \"guest house\" in the Esquilino neighborhood of Rome. Located just a few feet (meters) down the road from St Mary Major, it is a convenient stay if all you're looking for is a place to rest in between your explorations of the Eternal City. My family and I stayed here during the Jubilee (2025), and found it quiet and cozy. There are plenty of dining options around the neighborhood, and there is daily mass at St. Alphonsus (around the corner) and St Mary Major (down the street). Be aware that being a guest house--there are only 6 rooms from what I can tell--staff is only onsite during specific times. If you need to get a hold of the staff, who are very friendly and helpful, they can be reached via Whatsapp.

Because it is a B&B and not a hotel, the sign can be easily missed. Also, odd and even number addresses are on the same side of the street.

I stayed at Hotel Merulana from June 20–25 and had a truly wonderful experience. The hotel is in a fantastic location — walking distance to major sites like the Colosseum and Santa Maria Maggiore, and surrounded by charming restaurants and cafes.

The room was spotless, quiet, and comfortably furnished with modern touches like USB charging ports and strong Wi-Fi. The bed was cozy, and the air conditioning worked perfectly during the hot summer days.

What really stood out was the exceptional service. The staff were welcoming, helpful, and always available with great local tips. They made me feel truly cared for.

Breakfast was simple but fresh and satisfying, with good coffee and a nice variety of pastries and fruit. The overall atmosphere of the hotel was peaceful and well-maintained, giving it a boutique charm.

I highly recommend Hotel Merulana for anyone visiting Rome. It’s a perfect blend of comfort, location, and outstanding hospitality. I’ll definitely return on my next trip to the city.

We stayed 4 nights when we came to Rome. We had a busy schedule sightseeing and wanted a simple place. The location is great - a half-block from St. Mary Majeure Basilica), with food and bus stop nearby. Termini Station is about a 10-15 minute walk. Karin was wonderful and helpful with information. Lighting could be better when you get off the elevator at night. Breakfast was good. Overall, nice stay.

Karen, the front desk staff was so sweet and friendly and extremely helpful. ❤️ They had a breakfast every morning that was just right to start the day! The only thing to be aware of when booking a hotel in Italy in March/April is that it may be warm and AC is not turned on until later in the season. We ended up buying a fan to help and it worked out perfectly. Highly recommend this lovely place!

Not a traditional hotel but extremely pleasant! Just a door along a busy street near the Termini train station, but once upstairs and buzzed in, the staff spoke far better English than my rudimentary Italian deserved. The rooms and bathrooms were large and clean. We were able to have two rooms (#s 5 and 6) which closed off from the main hallway. And most importantly, they let us check in at 10am! We were only going to drop off bags, but instead got to have a 2 hour nap before heading out to sightsee. Always a huge plus when you get off a plane after an overnight flight. The rooms have shutters to keep out light & noise. Breakfast was delicious- they had scrambled eggs, warm croissants, cereals, breads, meats & cheeses, good coffee and the best orange juice I’ve ever had. A wonderful start to our trip.

We were leaving before breakfast the next day, and she prepared us a little breakfast and left it in our mini fridge while we were out looking at sites. The room was very clean and had everything we needed. The location was easy to walk to from the train terminal and then to all of the sites we wanted to see.

The whole team at the Merulana Inn were very nice and helpful. The room was very clean, modern and ideal for our city break. The inn was also located in a great spot that meant we could easily walk to many of the tourist sights (especially the colloseum) and many places to eat.

We enjoyed our stay immensely and would definitely stay again.

Merulana one night stay

The room was very small and the bed was very hard alhough it was a king. The shower was broken so the shower nozzle was about waist high. The location is amazing and check in was easy. We needed wine glasses and they provided them for us. Overall the stay was fine for one night as a tranfer prior to leaving Rome but I would not stay longer than that.

Close to Termini Station. Very clean and great friendly staff and a very good breakfast. We used the Green Line alot which is 8 minute walk. Fabulous ancient church in the square. St Maria Majore. Fun eating very close. Gotta love the tiny Italian elevators!

I discourage others from staying here. I arrived for a 3 night stay, and I quickly realized there were serious safety issues. None of the rooms/hallways had smoke detectors or emergency lighting. There is also an automated door to access the “hotel area” on the third floor that requires a room key card to get into the hotel space from the hall. Guests must use their key card from the inside to get out to the stairwell. I asked the staff how I would get out in an emergency if there was a power outage. They said that they “thought” the door could be pried open but they weren’t sure. My concern was that if there was a fire during the night, and if a person was lucky enough to wake up during the fire (no smoke alarms to alert you), they’d need to navigate in the dark to the exit door (no emergency exit lights). Then once they found the door to the hallway in the dark, they would have to figure out how to pry it open just to get out of the hotel area to the stairwell. Then it would be 3 floors down in the dark hallway to the exit door that opens INWARD. The staff was very nice/friendly but when I asked about the fire safety/emergency exit issue, She said I was the first to ever voice concerns about safety. The manager spoke with me over the phone to tell me that they are not required by law to have smoke detectors or any safety measures.. I left and found a hotel nearby with safety equipment. I lost the cost of the 3 nights stay because they would not refund me

This place is a small cute & cozy place really close to Roma Termini (train station). Lisa & the staff were so nice, sweet & helpful, Lisa made our stay welcoming & positive. Thank you for all your help and explaining things with so much care. :)

My favourite was the water pressure in the shower, bed was comfy, AC worked well & the cappuccinos in the morning.

Only downfall was our sleep would get disturbed a few times a night because the walls are so thin & our room was right in the front so you could literally hear everyone coming in & going out.

Other than that we loved our stay here, it was nice friendly staff, clean, close to train station & 15-20ish min. walk to most of the main attractions.

We were very. Pleasantly surprise ,Lisa the receptionist was really lovely and helpful ,we were offered free breakfast and our room was really clean and pleasant.
Clean white fluffy towels every day . The terminal was just around the corner ,it was very central and a great little bar just around the corner.We will definitely recommend this lovely friendly place .

We were pleased with the communication with the guesthouse. The check in was easy and Lisa the receptionist was friendly and informative. The room spacious and clean with good furnishings and the bathroom clean. Towels and linens clean.
The breakfast was much better than I had been expecting and was very tasty with nice staff. The guesthouse is pretty central to lots of sightseeing places. Coloseum 15 minutes, Trevi fountain 20 minutes, lots of shops and bars close. It wasca good stay and Id return next time I'm in Rome.
