Wish I'd known my room wouldn't be in the main building , as a single female I prefer to be in a hotel with access to reception 24hours without having to walk accross grounds and a phone in room to be able to call the desk if needs be . Also room service only available if you go in to the bar and order .... again not ideal when you have been travelling for hours, had a busy day at work and just want to relax and order food from the room . These little things do make a difference to me . Travelling for work alot ,so for these reasons I probably wouldn't stay here again . Overall a clean and tidy room , staff pleasant ,but a bit dingy ,dark and depressing in my room .

I had a lovely stay at the Best Western Plus West Retford Hotel. The grounds are beautiful and the historic building adds a lot of charm. My room was clean, spacious, and very comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout. Dinner at the restaurant was excellent—fresh and well-prepared. Only downside was the breakfast, which felt a bit basic compared to the rest of the experience. Overall, a peaceful and enjoyable stay. Would definitely return!

Shocking stay avoid if wedding taking place

We suggest you check that a wedding is not booked during your stay. Kept awake with shouting, arguments, slamming doors til 6am. Reported to reception who said night porter was not available to do his rounds, as was kept busy in the bar for wedding guests. Dated rooms with badly stained carpet, bed solid. Never again, terrible experience.

Here for a masquerade ball on the Friday evening so stayed over for 2 nights.
Lovely room.Very comfy and clean
It did get a bit hot and we couldn't turn down the radiator.
There was a QR code that you could click on to access the hotel guide.Also a section where you could agree not to have your room serviced and could choose a reward instead(drinks or snacks)
I was very impressed as we didn't need our linen or towels changing. However having submitted my preference the link didn't work so we got our room serviced anyway.
Maybe it would be easier just to let the receptionist know as we have done in other hotel chains,and it worked well.No unnecessary linen washing and we got a little treat.Glad West Retford are championing this even though in my case it didn't work properly.

The room was basic, but it was spacious and clean and the price was fair. We appreciated the ample free parking after several nights fighting for (and paying a small fortune for) a parking spot for our rental car. We walked into the cute village of Retford (maybe a mile away) and had a drink and snack at Rondo Lounge which was a neat place. The breakfast at the Best Western was fine for the price and the staff was friendly. I recommend it if you are looking for a safe, clean place to sleep.

We stayed here around 10 years ago for a wedding and it was great.
Although ‘ok’ now, the real let down was the bed - so uncomfortable to the extent that we barely got any sleep. It’s in beautiful surroundings but it’s looking tired and certainly isn’t the standard it was ten years ago.
Staff on reception were friendly and welcoming. Staff at breakfast were indifferent at best.
It served a purpose for us but sadly we won’t be rushing back.

This is about our 5th time staying at this hotel. Each time I have problems with room safe. Batteries require changing as DEAD, NO instructions how to use, unable to program, programmed but then wouldn't open. This time the safe was closed & locked when we entered room. Had to get staff to sort out. After 3 visits & about 30 mins it was sorted. But I shouldn't have to keep doing this everytime we come to this hotel. Also the wifi wasn't working properly. You could connect to wifi router, but there was no internet access. Not good when you need to check things to do with your holiday.

Very nice welcome from reception and when room allocated wasn't suitable, it was changed immediately to what we wanted. Receptionist was very helpful throughout our overnight stay. The room was excellent, very spacious and beautifully clean, especially the bathroom. The only downside was very poor service in the restaurant both at dinner and breakfast.

Whilst overall the property is well kept the rooms are a little dated. Biggest issue with the hotel is the guest rooms in the cottage which are approached by a staircase which would give Sherpa tensing a run for his money.

We had a very pleasant stay here for 3 nights. The room was spacious and clean. We did find the bathroom a bit tired and dated but again it was clean.
Plenty of secure parking.
We didn’t eat at the hotel at all so are unable to comment on that aspect.

We had a very good one night stop here. Very nice clean room and bathroom. Comfy bed. We had a meal in the bar restaurant which was very good. Room service breakfast as we were not that hungry enough for a full English but that was quite sufficient.
Only downside was a step in bath to shower as we are not as young as we were so not so easy getting in and out.!!

Charged me £21 for breakfast x 2 as oppose to £8 on the website ..breakfast was nice and staff very attentive.
Couple next door rowing all night and even the tv didn't stop the noise coming in ..I would have expected a night porter /security to check up on the guests and ask them to stop.
Not sure if this hotel provides room for social housing tenants or not...
Shattered in the morning ..should of been a free stay but no apology or anything..bit disappointed to be honest.IF Hotel see this please respond??

The hotel is getting very tired, the rooms definitely need updating. There wasn’t a plug at the side of the bed to charge a personal device. When I arrived and checked in and went into my room there was already someone in it. When I went back to reception the receptionist said it should be empty and was I sure someone else was in ! The breakfast area is also very tired, the breakfast service was excellent.

Friendly staff, good sized room and comfortable bed. The shower however was cold, it wasn’t that I didn’t set it right, I tried every which way. Also cold in there as th rail was cold. I did mention this when checking out and felt slightly as though they didn’t believe me with “really, no one else has complained” I think for the cost of £125 for room only I expect a little better

Visited as part of a cycling trip. Rang ahead of time to confirm bike storage which was sorted promptly on arrival. Stayed in the annex which was quiet.
Lovely garden with some interesting trees. Had evening meal on the patio outside. The steak was cooked beautifully, very juicy and delicious with peppercorn sauce. The mixed indian grill could do with being served with dips as default, as it is a little bit dry but these were provided when we asked. Reasonably priced for the type of hotel.
It was a shame it was a bit awkward to be able to take breakfast on the patio rather than indoors (as not many people were wearing masks in the hotel and the breakfast room didn't seem to have much ventilation) but we explained our anxiety to the staff and we were able to sit in the connecting room from reception which was better. Good selection at breakfast and the cooked breakfast and pastries certainly helped with that day's cycling!

Would stay here again if ever in the area another time.

Very disappointed Booked a twin room or family room and given a double room. Reception could not change our room as she said they did not have another room available and she said because i booked it with Expedia it was not her problem. Ran the shower for five minutes and the water was just lukewarm. No air con. No fan available. Two towel in the bathroom ,one large ,one small. Room next to me had the television after midnight and then back on around six the next morning. Wi fi okay the first night but did not work until 9.20 am and that was after three calls to reception.

Breakfast was only just warm and wasn’t much selection on buffet. Few nuts and chopped apple was the healthy option.
Think there was a wedding as there was a lot of noise as people can back to rooms late at night.

Good Clean Hotel

Very impressive entrance to the property and while the fixtures and fittings are of an older style, they have been maintained to a good standard. During this COVID time all measures to keep clean and guests safe had been adhered to and all staff and management should be commended. If I can be hyper critical I’d say the rooms need better sound proofing as we could hear next door talking and their tv, when we switched ours off. The breakfast was good and while not an issue as our breakfast was included, it was disappointing that my wife could not get an egg and a piece of bacon with her pancakes and had to share mine instead.

Exterbally looks lovely, but the rooms are very tired. Plaster cracked on tge walls, cobwebs on the curtains and skirting boards. Room was freezing and it took ages to get radistors to heat up. Quite noisy and draughty in 'THe Cottages' rooms.
