The staff and the restaurant are great. The ambience is always good and the quirkiness of the former prison is fun to stay in.
On the negative side, the room has not a single hook or hanger for a towel, the towels are too small and the toilet paper seems like genuine prison standard

Staff not very helpful, I asked for extra pillows and a duvet at reception, never arrived to my room. The window next to the bed has not properly sealed air comes in to the room. I could felt the air coming directly to my face while sleeping even though I had the blind down.
Also I had go and request cleaning my room as it was not cleaned, I has the room cleaning tag hanging at the handle door.

Reception staff were helpful.
This is a converted prison and so quirkily interesting.
The bed was fine and the room was spacious.
However I couldn’t find any light switches other than at the door. Only way to turn off the lights was to remove the card key from its slot.
Sink only had cold water so impossible to shave.

heb afgesproken met vrienden voor eten en drinken in Alkmaar en woon zelf ver weg. Dus 1 nacht verbleven. Dat is prima gegaan. Leuk is dat je nog duidelijk sporen ziet van de vorige bestemming van het gebouw. (Gevangenis) Alkmaar is trouwens ook wel een mooie stad om te bezoeken met traditionele panden en grachtjes.

Free parking is hard to get in Alkmaar, but from 17:00-9:00 it is free at the public parking next to the hotel (before passing the barrier) when you have the” pay by phone “ app you can easily pay if you need a bit longer. Enter through the Westerweg.

Wir waren zum zweiten Mal dort.
Es war rundum alles bestens. Die Parkmöglichkeiten sind super und auch die Zimmer sind komfortabel und gut eingerichtet. Die Innenstadt von Alkmaar ist fußläufig in 10-15 Minuten erreichbar, dafür ist es rundum ruhig.

Prachtig hotel met vriendelijk personeel

Fijn hotel met vriendelijk personeel. Rustig gelegen, op loopafstand van de binnenstad. Prachtig hoe de oude elementen van het Huis van Bewaring bewaard zijn gebleven. 's Ochtends een zeer uitgebreid ontbijtbuffet. Hoogtepunt was de rondleiding door de gevangenis door een oud-medewerkster. Tip: boek de rondleiding van tevoren, want het zit snel vol.

We zaten in het Fletcher hotel “De Gevangenis” in Alkmaar. Een oude gevangenis dus. Komen we op de kamer, kan er geen raam open, airco doet het niet, geen ventilator (de medewerker nog op zoek) en geen vervangende kamer!

My cup of tea

We had a very good nights sleep in excellent quality beds and bedwear! We appreciated that radiators worked very quick to warm up the room in the morning and the possibility to have a cup of tea in the room.
The windows are thick so we heard no noice whatsoever and talking about the back side of the hotel; the parking was free during the weekend.
What we missed was schampoo in the shower, we are used to have toiletry included in hotels.

Leuke accommodatie in een oude gevangenis, sfeer echt tof! helaas was onze superieur kamer erg gehorig en blijkbaar naast een opslag / schoonmaak verzamelpunt dus veel rumoer Er komen regelmatig vliegtuigen over en daarnaast werd er nog volop geklust waardoor van nachtrust weinig sprake was en we al slalommend tussen de ladders onze kamer uit moesten.

I am disappointed.
The beds are sagging, even the topper doesn't help, I woke up every morning with back pain.
The room is dirty, dusty, dirty shower, coffee machine with mold, even the coffee cups were not properly washed.
Windowblind broken, cannot be closed completely.
Noisy, doors in the hallway slamming shut, conversations in the hallway hearable even in bed.

Leuke accomodatie. In de badkamer alleen geen plek om je handdoek op te hangen en je moet eerst de badkamer in om het licht aan te doen. Dat was wat onhandig. Omtbijt vielnwat tegen. Suikervrije jam die niet lekker was en alleen keuze uit kaas.en 2 soorten vleeswaren.
Ik.heb ook nog een tip, fotos ophangen van hoe de.gevangenis was voor het een hotel was.

The hotel use to be a prison. Some of the characteristics of the building are still present like the steel doors, the iron walkway to access the rooms, which makes the hotel all the more interesting. They have turned two cells into one room so the space is great with an updated bathroom, large shower stall, a sitting room and a coffee machine. Hotel is very clean.

Leuk ingericht, attente details om het vroegere gebruik als gevangenis hier en daar te laten doorschemeren.
Kaarten waren niet geactiveerd bij inchecken. Moesten we weer naar beneden om dit alsnog te laten doen. Verder mooi schoon en lekkere bedden. Positieve ervaring!
