The staff and the restaurant are great. The ambience is always good and the quirkiness of the former prison is fun to stay in.
On the negative side, the room has not a single hook or hanger for a towel, the towels are too small and the toilet paper seems like genuine prison standard

Staff not very helpful, I asked for extra pillows and a duvet at reception, never arrived to my room. The window next to the bed has not properly sealed air comes in to the room. I could felt the air coming directly to my face while sleeping even though I had the blind down.

This is a converted prison and so quirkily interesting.
The bed was fine and the room was spacious.
However I couldn’t find any light switches other than at the door. Only way to turn off the lights was to remove the card key from its slot.

heb afgesproken met vrienden voor eten en drinken in Alkmaar en woon zelf ver weg. Dus 1 nacht verbleven. Dat is prima gegaan. Leuk is dat je nog duidelijk sporen ziet van de vorige bestemming van het gebouw. (Gevangenis) Alkmaar is trouwens ook wel een mooie stad om te bezoeken met traditionele panden en grachtjes.

Free parking is hard to get in Alkmaar, but from 17:00-9:00 it is free at the public parking next to the hotel (before passing the barrier) when you have the” pay by phone “ app you can easily pay if you need a bit longer. Enter through the Westerweg.

Sehr interessantes Hotel, ein altes Gefängnis wurde umgebaut, das spürt man an einigen Stellen deutlich, ist aber toll umgesetzt.
Unser Zimmer war dem Preis nicht angemessen, das Bett sehr gemütlich, tolle Eckfenster.
Das Bad war klein und nicht gut gewartet, der Handtuchhaltee nicht existent(abgerissen), die Dusche drohte überzulaufen, da der Abfluss nach kurzer Duschzeit nicht gut ablief und die Abdeckung des Abflusses passte nicht. Das Personal war super nett, allerdings brachte man mir abends netterweise auf Wunsch eine zusätzliche Zudecke (nur eine Große vorhanden), diese war aber nicht bezogen.
Das Frühstück war gut, aber nicht besonders, aber für Holland ok.
Gelegen ist das Hotel sehr hübsch und ruhig im Wald, aber trotzdem nicht weit von der netten Innenstadt.

Ik vind Fletcher altijd redelijk basic. Er staat vaak dat dit viersterren hotels zijn, dat is niet mijn ervaring. Het is meer 3; en dat geldt ook voor het aangeboden ontbijt. Niet erg uitgebreid, eieren vaak teleurstellend, maar er is voldoende aanbod. Vers fruit zou wel een fijne toevoeging zijn. Het raam op mijn kamer stond open bij aankomst. Leuk, want koeler, maar er vloog ook een mug. Ik geef direct toe: beetje een zeurpunt, maar ik slaap gewoon niet als er een mug zoemt. Gewoon oke voor één nachtje, lage prijs die reflecteert het aangebodene precies.

Mooie en bijzondere locatie voor een hotel. Zeker het deel waar de cellen nog zichtbaar zijn is prachtig. We hebben geslapen in de suite, een heerlijk ruime kamer. Het ontbijt was zeer compleet en goed verzorgd. Helaas konden we niet de gevangenis rondleiding volgen die door Fletcher wordt aangeboden.

Fijn hotel met vriendelijk personeel. Rustig gelegen, op loopafstand van de binnenstad. Prachtig hoe de oude elementen van het Huis van Bewaring bewaard zijn gebleven. 's Ochtends een zeer uitgebreid ontbijtbuffet. Hoogtepunt was de rondleiding door de gevangenis door een oud-medewerkster. Tip: boek de rondleiding van tevoren, want het zit snel vol.
