A fantastic place to stay. The staff are great, the location is amazing and the pool is one of the best of any hotel I have ever stayed at. It is also great that all the equipment for water activities is free to use - kayaks, paddle boards etc. My only advice is to check the weather carefully before you go as there is not a lot to do here (or on koh lipe in general) when the weather is bad.

Hotel and staff are great. Included breakfast is nice. I enjoyed the pool and direct access to the beach.
Weather was not as good as expected so I did not get to see the hotel at its peak sunny beauty.

Laundry service was great.

I stayed in B3 and the hot water was trickling, they fixed it right away. The mosquito screen was torn so I could not let the sliding door open.

They provided snorkels, kayak, paddle and kid sand toys for free.

They get you at the boat arrival and take you to the pier for departure.

We are grateful for the staff, room, restaurant, and lovely beachfront garden at Mali Resort on Sunrise Beach.
However, the so called walking streets on Koh Lipe are unsafe and dirty. We saw 2 cats get run over (I was able to help 1 after it got hit), neither time did the driver stop, everyone trying to use the walking streets narrowly avoids getting hit. Walking street safet must be addressed before we would consider returning or recommending any friends travel to Koh Lipe.
Travelers should know the commute between Koh Lipe and Bangkok takes an entire day and multiple legs that require prebooking. On the boat trip to the island there are 2 obligatory stops that add delay and expense, on the way back we encountered bone-jarring waves, barf bags were given to passengers that needed them, and everyone arrived soaking wet.
The diving may be the best in Thailand! But snorkelers have to avoid boats crowding every beach, and fishing boats with hooks and nets compete with divers even at the most popular dive locations.
A very loud party nearby kept everyone including the staff that live nearby up until after 2AM for 2 nights.
Mali Resort isn't to blame for the unsafe 'walking streets' or the uncomfortable extended commute, etc., but this significantly impacts travel experience.
We enjoyed diving and dining - recommend - 'On the Rocks' for dinner
Mali Sunrise is great for families with children that spend their time at the resort, in the pool, and eating at the resort restaurant.

A taste of paradise. Loved our time here. Terrific restaurant on the property overlooking the turquoise waters with the friendliest staff. I hope we can make it back again soon. If you can, try to get your open water scuba certification on the island. Ten minute walk on the beach to the scuba business with also the amazing sunrise yoga with Keiritas Yoga - the best yoga on the island.

Most comfortable bed!! Good location

We have just stayed at Mail Sunrise. We had a Balinese suite which was on the top floor of a small 2 storey block. I was under the impression we were getting a stand alone bungalow but once we entered the room I was happy! It was beautiful. Bigger than the villa bungalows and after looking around the resort I think I preferred ours. Larger and more private. The room was stunning. Large and spotless. Beautiful comfy bed, soft pillows and linen, great bathroom and large balcony. We had a fridge, pool towels and daily bottled water.
The resort was nice. Breakfast offered several choices and was served 7-10.30.
There are a few sun loungers on the small area outside the bar. There is no beach at high tide which makes it feel a bit tight around that area.
The pool is pretty. Cleaned in the morning free of leaves etc, but in the afternoon it could have done with another sweep. Plenty of beds around the pool.
Reception staff there till 5pm. After that the bar staff are around till 19pm then there is an emergency phone number.
The best things for us were the room itself and the location of the resort.
South end of Sunrise do less congested with people and boats.
10 mins walk to Walking Street and a motorbike taxi outside most times we wanted one.
20 min walk up Sunrise beach to Zodiac where people go to watch the sunset. Beach bars all along this route.

Lovely place right on the beach. Room was clean and very big with a nice big balcony The pool was lovely and huge although the beach is so beautiful we didn’t use it much. The kayaks and paddle boards were free to use along with snorkels. Staff although were friendly and the service was excellent, they all looked a bit fed up at times. Breakfast was very good. My only criticism would be why would you put plastic cushions on the sunbeds? It’s lethal. we had a great stay there and would definitely recommend it.

Balinese style, walkable to walking street, restaurants and shops. Located on the sunrise beach, you can easily grab the snorkeling mask and walk into the sea and enjoy the coral reef and see a lot of fish, recommend to do it in the afternoon. Be ware of the millions mosquitos.

Very clean and well maintained, highly recommended! The beach is only a minute walk through some trees and the views are amazing there throughout the entire day. They also provide transportation from the pier to the hotel which makes it 100x easier to get from the pier to airport. Staff is very nice and the hotel provides a lot of the necessities to stay there like towels, toiletries, and etc. Again, highly recommended this hotel!

We had a very positive experience at Mali Sunrise. They picked us up at the immigration arrival point on the main beach. The checkin was very quick and smooth. We were given the room I asked for on the 2nd floor. The room is very spacious with a big and comfortable king bed and a big sofa. They added a single bed for my daugther with a proper thick mattress. The bathroom is also big with a big shower and absolutely no bad smell. There is a TV, but we didn't use it, a mini fridge filled with water bottles. Plenty of space to put your stuff. The balcony is big with 2 chairs and a little table and a practical hanger. The pool is super nice, very cosy and esthetic. The water is quite warm. The garden is very well maintained. The bar/ restaurant at the beach is simple, but cosy and clean. They serve good quality food all day long till 730pm, so it's good for an early dinner, but if you want to eat later, you need to go to the 'walking street' which is at 10m' walking distance. In the morning they serve breakfast at the bar. You can order as much as you like. They have different options, the sandwiches and the muesli are super good. They also offer pancakes, fruit, fried rice, etc... We were very satisfied both with the quality and the quantity offered. They don't have a private beach, but they are at one end of the beautiful Sunrise beach, so it's a quiet corner with a limited amount of Thai boats in front. In front there is a tiny island, where you can snorkel

The most beautiful garden resort

We had lovely stay at Mali, the moment we arrived by the speedboat, there are staff there greeting us and took us to the resort.

The room is right next to the pool and sit in the most beautifully maintained garden.

Walking street, sunset view points are just walk away.

Love the place, will recommend it.

Our first time at the resort and from the moment we arrived till the time we left, the hospitality from the staff and the location of the resort far exceeded our expectations. Granted a few things around the pool area probably needed updating but that didn’t deter from being a first class resort. Restaurant dining options were great, food was awesome, prices reasonable, and staff was very friendly. The proximity of the rooms to the beach was perfect and the pool was perfect temperature and beautiful. Would HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Christmas time at Mali Sunrise '22

A group of 7 of us booked a 5 night stay for Christmas. My room looked very nice when I arrived. Towels were shaped into a nice Design on my bed ;) but the bathroom faucet's metal base was very loose and wiggled every time I turned the water on and off; there were small wrapped soaps, but I was surprised that there was No soap dish so I always dripped water on the sink when I used the soap. The shower head constantly leaked about 4 drips from diferent holes every second,so the shower floor was always wet &the water would seep over the low edge to the floor near the toilet where I moved a small floor towel closer to where my feet would be.I believe I told the owner &/or another male staff person at the restaurant (where we ate every morning.)One told me they would let his repair team know, but no repair was made in those 6 days. I also told him that my front door wouldn't properly lock&I tried to lock it more than several times each try everyday, but was unsuccessful 99% of the time.I didn't report these issues everyday but felt that some effort should've been made to fix the latch/lock on my front door. The service at breakfast was very good w/eggs,omelet w/sides of bacon,ham, hash brown wedges,sliced pineapple& watermelon,baked beans; plain yogurt w/fruit if requested (yogurt was very sweet)there was cereal &other items.OJ,milk,coffee.I think coffee/juice ws available aftr breakfast @10:30am.Great waitstaff, friendly,helpful ;)Nice small beach area,good location,Fun Vacation

My only complaint would be about the breakfast options, but even those were complimentary so it's hard to complain. My family was there for over a week, so we all grew very bored of the breakfast options since they never changed.

The storm drain pipe which drains in the middle of the beach was broken and a bit stinky. They should extend this pipe to the property line.

The garden surrounding the pool area is lovely. The beach lounge is also very nice. This part of Sunrise beach isn't so crowded with longtail boats as the northern part. Also the lovely little beach cove by Ten Moons Resort is very close and accessible. Staff was super friendly, professional and helpful. We had a bit of a bug problem in our first bungalow but we could to another bungalow which was great.

The resort staff were very kind and always willing to help with whatever we needed. The facilities were nice. My friends and I really enjoyed their swimming pool and the resort location is directly on the beach which made it easy to enjoy both the pool and the beach. Property had a great location, near both the walking street and directly in front of the sunrise beach.

Front desk was not open the whole day, so you are on your own past a certain time. I scraped my knee from snorkelling during low tide and there was no first aid kit available.

Toiletries were basic, but the layout of the Balinese suite toilet was odd because you had to put there was nowhere to place the toiletries in the shower. You have to put the shampoo and bath gel pumps on the floor.

Restaurant was only open until 5pm, and the food was brought in from another place so it took 20 minutes. Tasted good though!

Staff were helpful and friendly, but property felt undermanned. For parents with children, best to keep an eye on them.

Lots of trees surrounding it so there were always a lot of leaves, seeds, etc. floating which made it a little less inviting to go in. Bedroom was dusty and had lots of mosquitoes at night. No robes and slippers provided. Loud aircon needed maintenance. Some gardening staff were unpleasant and made me feel unwanted. The resort is “closed” after 17.00 when I found two young people who were not guests standing outside my villa looking in after dark .. Nice snorkelling beach; lots of boat traffic in the morning. Pool was very nice, good food and pleasant service at restaurant and friendly reception service.

It’s not far from walking street, if far enough away that it’s not too noisy.

Fantastic location - on the beach (there is a beautiful spot just a couple of mins walk down) but easy to get to walking street and amenities too. Lovely big rooms with nice lighting and comfy bed. Well located to walking street and lovely pool much bigger than other hotels. The suite room was large and spacious. The food and drinks were great.
but for some reason there were many boats anchored in the water so no view and difficult to swim in the sea in front of the hotel as there were many ropes. The management was unable to help with any queries one might have had. The deck chairs were heavy and very closely placed. There is also swampy water just outside the rooms and therefore many mosquitos.

Hotel is close to the beach but no wind at all, feel so sultry. Amenities too simple where no kettle in the room, difficulty to put the toiletries while shower, the plug in the room too low not so convenient, where we have to charge our phone in he bathroom. Too low water pressure for the shower. Environment of the beach is not satisfied because too many rubbish along the beach.

Great weekend break at Mali Resort Sunrise Beach

Great location right next to the beach, only a 5-10min walk to Walkng street, nice and quiet. Food was good, recommend the curries. ask for the menu and you’ll see they have a good range. Service was always with a smile and remembered room number after a day which was nice. Room was excellent - good size, really nice bathroom and had all key things like AC, working safe, fridge and toiletries. Only thing that was poor was the shared toilet and shower - lots of bugs and shower head had detached from hose - not up to standard with rest of resort though we were able to use one of the rooms between checkout and checkin, so thanks to staff for that :). Hopefully this will be sorted soon. All together great stay and would definitely recommend - next time we would stay a day more and do a trip.

It's nice but lacking in some areas

My wife and I are split on Mail Sunrise. She was generally OK with the overall stay. I was comfortable but had enough unfortunate interactions with the booking process, the manager(s), that I could give it a miss.

The upside is that rooms are good size with comfortable beds, good AC and a short stroll to the beach. The pool was OK but with so many guests smothering themselves in tanning lotion then hopping in the pool, it's hard to keep the water clean.

The local staff were very nice, helpful and pleasant. Breakfast was simple but good. However breakfast starts at 7:30 so if you have got day trips planned, it's tight. Also no coffe/tea service in room and if you're up early, you have to walk to town to get a coffee.

My take is that for the price, it is more comfortable than many however it should be managed better.

Fab location by the water's edge

Probably one of the better hotels on the Island, quality varies wildly but Melia Sunrise is worth the extra cost to get that added bit of comfort. Be aware that when tide is out the immediate area is not great for swimming - water to waist height at best and lots of coral but you can't snorkel at low tide. Good swimming spot when tide is in but there are too many long tail boats around and an almost constant whiff of diesel but that does seem to be the case on other beaches also. Most acute in the mornings and evenings when ferries / day trippers etc on the move.

Would definitely stay here again as returning to Koh Lipe is a must!

Disappointed & NO MOSQUITO NETS

I was disappointed. I was so excited to stay in the Mali Sunrise resort for our last 2 nights of our holiday but the room was a bit run down even though this was our most expensive stay. The bathroom was excellent but the room itself had dirty sheets, mosquito marks on the walls (from where they had been squashed) and no mosquito net, meaning we spent most of the first night awake and trying to kill the mozzies. The breakfast was nice but the resort didn't really have a reception area and didn't feel like it was equipped as a resort (more just random bungalows off of the beach). There was also supposedly room service but no phones in the room and the staff weren't really around to help with recommendations or umbrellas in the rain storm!

Excellent location and accomodative staffs!

We had other choices before choosing this resort. Its was fabulous, located at the beachfront. Beach is superb for swimming and chilling. Our utmost thank you to Claire and Tom for being so accomodating. We certainly will miss Ko Lipe and its hospitality!

Le restau est correct mais on a préféré manger a l'extérieur. La plage n'est pas tellement celle des photos, il y a beaucoup de bateau, il faut s'éloigner un peu... Bon c'est pour chipoter koh lipe c'est TOP.

Café da manhã estilo a La Carte com boas opções, quarto limpo amplo um detalhe chuveiro muito fraco. Vista para praia linda mesmo com os barcos .

Personalen var vänlig och hjälpsam, storleken på rummet var bra. Det dåliga var att det luktade avlopp i badrummet och mögel i rummet behövde vädra långe och använda ac för att få bort lukten, i badrummet satt vi en liten handduk över avloppet när vi inte duschade.

Honest review.

Positives: Really good breakfast on the beach restaurant - best we had on Koh Lipe.
Pool is clean and really idyllic with direct access to the beach.
Staff is really helpful and offers great comfort.

Negatives: The rooms are pretty dirty, and offers medium comfort.
The rooms ( the ones we checked out ) all had really powerful smell of fungus. Coming from the aircon - so bad that we had to abort our stay with astma and allergic reaction.
The reception is only available during the day. So you are on your own in the evening if anything happens. There are staff in the bar but it seems a bit strange to us.

Big thanks to the hotel for letting us cancel our stay because of allergies.

Mali resort er en fantastisk perle på Koh Lipe. Rommet var romslig, rent og med fint interiør og stemning. Bassengområdet og stranden nydelig, beliggenheten perfekt og personalet i restauranten/baren er nydelige. Veldig god service og stemning under hele vårt opphold. Anbefales!
