This hotel has perfected the art of service. From the moment we stepped out of our car until three days later when we left, every single interaction with staff was impeccable. I was more often than not addressed by my name (how do they keep track?!), and the balance they have struck between formal and welcoming is truly amazing. We stayed for 3 nights. I am a Expedia platinum member and they had an upgrade available but the check in staff couldn’t agree with each other to give us upgrade. The big elderly lady with big black glasses was rude and obnoxious refused that France didn’t care about Expedia members, only if I booked with AMX I could get upgraded. Room was ok, bathroom was very small, for $1000 a night not worth it at all. The view of the beach was nice which we paid for it, otherwise very old dated hotel but looks glamorous. Our friends had a large suite but they were not happy with the smell of old dated wood. Service was ok, staff , most of them as rude as they could be. Breakfast was good but again staff are rude and slow. Dinner was good but not great for a Michelin star. Area around the hotel are nice and charming, lots of shops and restaurants. Overall it would be a nicer stay if there wasn’t so much attitude around.

The property, from architecture to experience, is all about luxury. From the initial greeting to departure, the entire stay was lovely. I had a beautiful room with 5 (or 6?) floor to ceiling windows, a bathtub (💖), and twin beds. We were welcomed with champagne and lemon cookies, and the complimentary teas were delicious and high quality. The welcome for my little dog was sweet and beautiful. And although the chef has recently changed, the wait staff is knowledgeable, refined, and gracious. My thanks to Nisma, Denis, and others at reception, to Pierre and Christophe, the voituriers, and to the young lady who engraved the little dog tag for Rambo, many thanks!

I have stayed several times here, almost everytime I've been to Biarritz, and the reception has always been courteous and professional. The rooms have always been beautiful and luxuriously well appointed. Each arrival has been lovely, with reception, check in, car and luggage, and in all my stays, there was only one problem, that was quickly, and graciously, resolved. The hotel is right on the beach, and it's an easy walk down to dig your toes in the sand! It has become a welcome refuge.

This is my third stay at the Hotel du Palais in Biarritz and my best stay. The staff was warm, welcoming, and they remembered me from my last two visits. My husband and I felt well cared for and respected. I don't know if we received a room upgrade, but it felt like we did because we had a room with beautiful views of the city and ocean. Dinner on the terrace last night, with the ocean and sunset, were a definite plus!

A truly 5 star hotel/ resort. From the moment we arrived we felt special, ppl at the front desk couldn’t be nicer. Beautiful room with a view of the lighthouse and the ocean. Clean and comfortable. Walk everywhere. Free shuttle to the train station. Good if pricey breakfast.
Dinner at the restaurant we didn’t like especially seaweed dessert 😢. Lobster in beet juice didn’t impress us. But that’s a separate entity I guess and not the hotel.
Thank you Hotel du Palais Biarritz! We love you.

Staying at the Hotel du Palais was absolutely magical. The hotel is one of the most beautiful buildings I have ever seen and the views are stunning. Dinner in the restaurant was wonderful. Our whole stay the staff could not have been more courteous or professional. The only thing we were disappointed about was that we only booked 2 nights. Had we known what a gem this resort was I would have wanted at least 4. Thank you for the wonderful stay!

A Magical place!

We had a fabulous stay at this historic and beautifully restored monument hotel. From the moment we check-in, Semen, provided the most attentive care and attention, and walked us to our room and gave us a tour of the hotel. Julien at Concierge gave us exceptional, above and beyond service and information throughout our stay. This was one of the most memorable stay and experience. The dining at the La Rotonda was amazing, the pool is gorgeous, the spa was amazing. Everyone at the hotel provided absolutely the best service. Extraordinary experience!

Concierge service outstanding !! And also lifeguards at the swimming pool go a step further placing guests and remembering regulars
Missing the lunch buffet that was a Hôtel du Palais tradition . This needs to be reinstated as the Sunset restaurant and menu is really not great .
Service is not consistent . Tv not working and hairdryers fixed on the wall of the bathroom and weak which is not convenient .
There should be a better emphasis on service !
The concierge service is the department that holds together the hotel. They also remember the regulars which is very important !

The property is very eell located, overlooking the ocean. The gardens are gorgeous and well manicured, the interiors are inmacurate and full of impresive antiquites such as the fire place at the bar so is the huge hanging lamp at the same place. The food is very good at the restaurant, the pool is a nice hangout, views impresive, the room was a good size and the amenities by Guerlain are always a plus, the bathroom has a good size but not large, it didn't have a bathtub. The air conditioning system works very well, the cleaning service is very reliable and kind.
Probably the thing I didn't like much was the time taking during the check in and the check out, the concierge was also not very good. I was going to pay with my DINERS CLUB card at the front desk and the lady told me they did not take DINERS CLUB, for a hotel of duch high standards I don't understand why don't take all credit cards.

We stayed during the last week before the hotel closed for major renovation and everything had a distinct end of term feel about it. Dinner and bar snack menus were very restricted compared to previous visits and they even managed to run out of my favourite drink. never mind, it will be interesting to see what changes will occur under the new management when they reopen.

Without doubt the best hotel I have ever stayed in

Unbelievable hotel with amazing staff, service and food beyond compare.
There is some construction on the outdoor pool which is closed until June or July 2018 so bare that in mind but the indoor pool and spa is lovely but the outdoor area will be lovely when complete. Stay here on the half board package is actually good value for the quality and pay if you want extras but you will want for nothing here really.
It felt very special to stay here even just for two nights. And the hotel picked us up from the airport.
10/10 for everything. I couldn’t fault anything and still smiling!

Overpriced past its prime hotel with snooty staff.

Orbitz charged over a hundred dollars taxes and fees for a two night stay and I was still charged taxes when checking out. There were no welcoming favors in the room, not even coffee we could make. The tv had a 25 euro fee to watch it. The woodwork was in need of painting and the old fashioned key to the room took some work to open the door.

I think the menu should be renewed. Maybe should invite a young talented chef. The hotel is such a first class and the center of Biarritz, it should have the first class main dinning room

Miserable!

We booked a classic room. Did not accept 100 euro upgrade. Was given probably the worst room in house although hotel was not even 50% full - 1st floor, nothing like the picture displayed in hotels.com site, next to housekeeping station and in from of the staircase. Evidently booking hotels.com if we want to stay in a great hotel is a mistake - I could have gotten a $100 room, instead of $400 we paid for what we got.

A perfect weekend in Biarritz

No AC = No 5 stars

The hotel is nice, but when you are charging $500+ a night, you should have working AC, not advertise that you do but in fact have rooms that are 80 degrees because what you CALL an AC is actually little more than a fan. The room was way too hot bottom line, and there is nothing that the hotel can do about it becasue its AC system barely works. You put your hand over the vent and can barely feel anything coming out. I guess Europeans dont mind 80 degree rooms and are willing to pay for the very nice Belle Epoque surroundings, but if it is a hot summer day and you need a room that is more like 70 degrees than 80 degrees, go elsewhere.

The hotel has a wonderful location right on the beach and if you can it's worth getting a room with a sea view. Very grand historic hotel but the rooms are in need of a little refurbishment. Very old style bedroom although the bathroom was newer. Lots of staff but it felt like they weren't all on the ball and at times it felt quite institutional. Some of the staff appeared disinterested and others were very helpful. Overall it was a great experience but unless they do something to update their rooms and improve the staff attitude then there are other places I would prefer to go. It's a beautiful building but trading a little on faded glory.

A slice of heaven!

We stayed here for 10 days and it was 10 days of heaven! This hotel totally deserves its 5 star rating. It was palatial and yet warm. Our room was large and beautifully decorated. The staff was friendly, helpful and attentive to every conceivable need. The property was spectacular, overlooking the breathtaking beach. We highly recommend this hotel without any reservations.

Lovely hotel but beware the dawn deliveries!

As I would expect for the price this was a first class hotel. Our stay was only marred by being woken at 5.30 am by an extremely noisy delivery of laundry outside our window (about 20 minutes of banging shouting and reversing bleepers). At 500 euros plus a night I expect a good night's sleep!I did mention this when checking out but the receptionist seemed unconcerned and didn't even make a note of it.

For such an expensive hotel, for the outdoor pool to close at 7:30 PM on a beautiful summer evening is very disappointing. Plus, the indoor pool closes at 8:00 PM. Otherwise, great place to stay.

Elegance and gracious living personified

To stay at this hotel is to experience gracious living and elegance at its very best. We started coming here three years ago.to celebrate our wedding anniversary and now make a point of coming back each year. The hotel remembers each year the reason for our stay without reminding and go out of their way to make our celebration special. It is little touches like this that make the Palais the very special hotel that it is. Apart from the hotel, Biarritz is a very special place to visit. It should be on everybody's bucket list.

Fabulous Hotel right on the beach.

We were lucky enough to be upgraded with our room as they weren't full. It was a tremendous experience and we would highly recommend this hotel. The staff were fabulous, there is nothing I can fault about our stay with the exception of the air conditioning. We could not quite get the room cool enough.

We swam in the pool and the beach, lunched at the pool restaurant with its incredible view and had dinner in the hotel dining room. Both meals were very good.

Absolutely loved the hotel. It is just as gorgeous as the reviews all say, and the service is fantastic. I went down to the front desk and requested a decanter for a bottle of wine I'd purchased on my own, and housekeeping literally beat me back to the room! The pool is also second to none. The only reason I give less than 5 stars straight through is that the window was very small, and porthole style, so the room was rather dark (tip: the lower floors are the best -- don't be fooled by a fifth floor reservation!) But if you're staying in Biarritz, it's worth the money.

Hotel Du Palais was incredible!!! We got a great room with a view of the lighthouse, it was perfect and private and quiet with a super comfortable bed!

All the hotel and staff were amazing, it felt like you were visiting your families summer home, we got to know the pool director and all the concierges' and bellman!

What a beautiful charming historic hotel... you can just feel the past and the royalty all around you!

Worth every penny!

A strange vinyl cabinet held the mini-bar with TV set on top. Weird and disappointing for someone who appreciates good design and beautiful decor.

Great hotel if you need pampering and relaxation.

Very relaxing hotel, the staff were friendly and helpful without being obsequious. The view was divine and the swimming pool overlooking the beach was gorgeous. Very gracious and everything was quality especially the food from the perfect boiled eggs at breakfast to the basque cherry cake. Also loved that you allowed dogs into the bar area, coming from Australia where this is not allowed I thought it was so civilised and homely Loved it.

Great hotel, super expensive, average amenities

The hotel is great, no doubt about it. However is really too expensive for what they offer. For instance in a 400€ room you expect to find high quality bathroom amenities (like all the hotels have) and not cheap stuff with the name of the hotel. I´ve stayed in much cheaper hotels (but also great ones) and the amenties were by Etro, Missoni or Salvatore Ferragamo. The bathroom also needed a renovation as it was quite dated (again for that sort of hotel).The room was very nice with views of the beach and the lighthouse.The stuff was very nice and attentive though many of them only spoke French. We had a great time, in any case and the building is impressive.
