Easy to get to from the airport, easy to check in and park.
However, the room itself was a bit dated and the bathroom situation is WEIRD. There was a tiny sink next to the bed and a toilet with shower behind about 2.2m tall partition meaning all the sound and smell is literally next to bed.
Also, the window was not closing properly, so there was a bit of a draft.
Common areas were basic and totally fine.
Perhaps an okay stay for one but wouldn't recommend otherwise

This place is a hazard to your health. Starting off with a big lip to get into the door. My able-bodied husband tripped over it several times. I use a wheelchair most of the time, though I can walk a few steps. The hotel said that it was wheelchair accessible that there was wheelchair accessible path to the room. We got to the room at midnight. It is a self service hotel. There’s no staff. We had trouble getting the code to work into our room. Had to call someone. Finally got into the room only to find that there were three very deep steps down to the bedroom from the bathroom. This made it extremely painful and hazardous for me. Every time I had to go to the bathroom during the night, I had to climb the stairs. And it caused me so much pain. It also made me feel very unsafe. When I called in the morning they have no idea what I was talking about I also was really irritated to find there was no coffee in our room. we had cream, sugar, teabags, but no coffee. I called was told that sorry they were out. They are a self service hotel. There was no one there. There was a truck coming with coffee, but it would be after we were gone. The only good thing I can say was that the bed was comfortable.. Water from the tap had an extremely strong, unpleasant, sulfur smell. We have stayed in three other hotels recently in Iceland and none of them had this problem. All that to say, keep looking. I wouldn’t stay here again if you paid me.

It is Hard to find positive things to mention about my stay.

Room was not very clean (dust everywhere, dirty walls and corners), threadbare linens, and bathroom that smells like the harbor that the property is located in. And to top it off, we awoke with several bug bites that I will not mention what I think the source is.... But they were not present before sleeping at hotel duus.

We booked Hotel Duus as a last minute stay after flights were canceled in and out of Iceland. The location is great, right on the water, close to restaurants and near a grocery store. This hotel is not staffed, there is no one at the desk, you check yourself in with the code sent to you by email. It is convenient, however, if there is an issue, you are not able to get in touch with anyone except by email. We had 2 rooms, in one room, we were unable to open the door to the patio and there was old noodles in the hot water reservoir of the coffee pot. There was dirt on the bedding, as if the bed was just remade instead of replacing the bedding from the last guests.

The entire place is asynchronous, you can only communicate through management via email, if you do accidentally run into the staff aka the receptionist (who through our entire week-long trip we only saw once) will be very aggressive with you no matter what- she is rude and demeaning and is somehow surprised when people could possibly misunderstand instructions such as where to place their bags during check-in/checkout. Since the only information you have is an email that is written honestly kind of poorly. you would think staff in hospitality would know better than to talk down to people and treat them like scum.This would have been a four out of five hotel stay, but it's really wonderful how a single experience can turn something all around so unfortunately my rating is much lower than it could have been. I hope she has the day she deserves moving forward. Also PSA: In the instructions, if you say this small black door for luggage is *behind* the reception desk, it should actually be behind it, not in front of it, since we're talking about the hotel being asynchronous, they do take quite a long while to respond to any message. None of the pamphlets nor instructions nor wall postings are up to date. they claim to have daily housekeeping but is they deliver a bag of new supplies such as towels outside of your door there is no \"actual\" housekeeping happening within your hotel room until you leave your stay

This was such a disappointing hotel. When we arrived, our room was DISGUSTING. The sheets looked like they had not been washed, they were filthy with hair all over them. Our bathroom had mold, floss on the ground, dust and hair on the towels, and looked like it hadn’t been cleaned from the previous occupants. We went to the “front desk” to request a cleaning, and waited for one of the restaurant staff to clean it. She did what I would call a light cleaning, and then we went back in. Honestly , she just changed the sheets and wiped a few things down. It was still filthy. We gave the hotel a chance to correct the issue, and they didn’t. We ended up leaving and not staying the night.

If you are expecting an internal lock, there are none. So if anyone has your code, they can just come in.

This listing is misleading as well. The hotel is dark, dingy and dusty. The photos do not show the true nature of the hotel.

We have been fighting with the hotel and Expedia to refund our booking, but neither have budged. It’s completely unacceptable that a room be that filthy, and even though we tried to give the hotel a chance to make things right, we are still being punished for not staying in a frankly disgusting place.

The staff were fabulous at helping me sort out an error I made with my booking. The room was very clean. Parking wasn’t an issue. There are good restaurants within walking distance. Quiet area for getting a good night’s sleep.

Room size and twin single beds are European standard issue; North Americans like me need to adjust their expectations when travelling outside of their home countries - I’m familiar with European travel, but some may expect larger spaces and beds.

Ideal for those wanting to be close to the airport and keeping costs down.

If you’re staying longer, and want to be walking distance to more nightlife, vegetarian/vegan food options, and shopping, consider paying more to stay in Reykjavik nearer tourist areas.

Our schedule was tight and we didn’t have time to check out the bar/restaurant there. But our stay was smooth and easy.

We needed a hotel for 1 evening and didn't want to stay at the airport. Hotel Duus was fairly close (10 minute taxi ride), located near a picturesque marina and had a restaurant on the premise. The room was clean, bed comfortable, the staff was very responsive and helpful with any inquiries. We had a delicious meal in the restaurant! The lobster bisque soup was outstanding! Not only did our server provide excellent dinner service, but she also arranged for our taxi pick up the next morning. I wish we would have had more time to explore Iceland. Next time!! We would definitely recommend Hotel Duus.

Hard to know where to park, esp. at night. Spots not delineated and lot very dark. Room was on top floor under dormer so on one side of the room there was low head room. The shower leaked such that one person couldn't use the toilet as the same time as someone showering - you'd be soaked. Tiny sink was in the bedroom, not with other bathroom fixtures and almost no place for personal toiletries. Towels very small and no bath mat (would have been drenched, anyway). Only one wash cloth for 2 people. Duvets were skimpy and pillows were small compared to other similarly priced properties we stayed in the last 9 nights. But the worst thing is that when we arrived, the temperature in there was easily 85 degrees or more (F). The bathroom radiator was on full blast.

Perfect for 24 hour layovers: 7 minutes from KEF. Restaurant is fabulous. We had a rented car and explored the seaside villages, the geothermal areas and the lighthouse. Some fun bird watching. Bed was comfortable.
Cons: noisy front door that might wake you. Pillows a bit limp and only one each. Only one partial roll of toilet paper and we ran out in the middle of the night.

So with that said, you have to enter the restaurant to get to your room upstairs. The room has a kettle and water. Comfortable bed and decent size room! It is next to the bay! I had never done a place where it was self check in. Had trouble a couple of days before with the person on the phone. Please get someone who can understand what people are saying. The day we checked in the passcode did not work so i called the number and the woman who answered was very pleasant and corrected it easily. You may check your doors to ensure that the numbers all work. The gal had a simple solution. The room was nice and it was the first place in Iceland that provided things such as a toothbrush etc. Very nice.

Mother- daughter 24 hr trip to Iceland wasted 4 hrs trying to gain access to hotel which had yearly carnival going on in front of it blocked from access all around. We reserved handicapped rooms and needed access but no help was avaliable from hotel and no refund for all our inconvenience. There is no in-site support to complain to. The local search & rescue was a helpful as could be and got us access but only after much time. It was VERY DIFFICULT AND NOT WORTH IT!

Front door slammed shut all night, super loud. Could hear everything in every other room all night long. There is no reception and the property did not send information to access the room despite several attempts to contact them. Total disaster of a hotel.

Great for a long layover

Great for a layover! Very easy self check in, they send you an email with room number and code. The code is on the door of the room (needs to be lightened up. Hard to find.) The room is very clean and comfortable, has everything you need for a short stay. The hotel is attached to a restaurant which is convenient. There are also a few other restaurants within walking distance. It’s in a very quiet little area, ocean views, and a museum with some shops nearby.
The only problem I had was the lack of transportation options in this area. Go get there I had to take an overpriced cab from the airport. The hotel is not really walkable from the airport, but it’s a 9 min drive. Unfortunately it cost me $45 usd each way with local taxis!! No other public transport. It was difficult trying to find a taxi the morning of, took some time and still so overpriced. But that was the only option. I suggest the hotel should find a partnership with a local shuttle or taxi company.

Our room had a lovely view of the marina. Hotel was handy for airport access. Room was a good size. Floors were not clean. Bathroom shower wasn’t all clean. Beds each only had one pillow. We had to sacrifice a towel to use as a bath mat and then could have used another towel. Not good value for the price, in my opinion.

Booked this hotel because of proximity to airport however there is no shuttle to airport which is only few minutes away and the taxi ride costs $45. The comforter on the bed was dirty and the sheets had nad odor. Shower head was missing on handheld shower so its functioning like a hose. Do mot recommend staying here..

The rooms were clean, beds were very comfy, with hot showers. The shower stall was small but we didn’t mind. Having a restaurant for dinner in the same place was very convenient. The only improvement I would suggest is the keypads for self entry. The main door and the room door were both very finicky and we had to make several attempts to enter. Thankfully the main door is open during restaurant open hours or I’m not sure we would have gotten in.

We stayed here on August 23rd and unfortunately it was one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve ever had.

When we arrived, we couldn’t even get into the building because the key code wasn’t working – we had to call customer service just to get in.

Once inside (Room 202), the room was honestly in a really poor state:

Hair in the bathroom and even in the bed sheets.

Dust everywhere – on the headboard, windows, even the extractor fan which was completely caked in it.

Dead flies on the windows.

Stains all across the bedroom floor.

The TV didn’t work and was literally held together with masking tape.

Shower curtain way too big for the shower, which made it unusable.

Would not recommend this hotel until they seriously improve the cleanliness and basic maintenance of the rooms.

For flights arriving in the early a.m. this is rather inconvenient… no staff at the registration desk, only 2 chairs to sit and wait, and the ‘storage closet’ where you could place luggage til check-in was not supervised. Our room had the bathroom on one level with 2 steps down to where the beds were… this might prove dangerous to someone with small children or adults with mobility problems. The bathroom had nowhere to place your clothes , except on the toilet seat while you showered.
On the positive, the bed was very comfortable.

Don’t stay ever. Total scam! Unsafe!

Worst. “Hotel.” Ever. Imagine a dirty, moldy, horror film storage closet turned into a “room.” Complete with sketchy electronic lock and ground floor door with cracked window. Absolutely no way to lock the main door from inside….i stacked furniture to create a barricade. The other door was simply put in to comply with fire safety egress….again, not secure at all. “Room” overlooks a working doc and is below a restaurant. Constantly noise 24/7. Patio….fore escape was littered with broken bottles and cigarettes…..showed signs of homeless staying there at night. TV was non-functional. No other amenities. Bathroom shower was full of mold and smelled of sewage. I literally packed up in the middle of the night and went to sleep at the airport after random yelling, fighting, and banging on my door occurred. There is NO on site staff for assistance.

I take ownership of this… I didn’t realize this was a self check-in property. A door code was emailed the day prior. We got the code wrong the first few times as it was hard to see the numbers. We were not the only ones who struggled. Woke up in the middle of the night to hear our neighbors get locked out of their room. The location was excellent and the bed was comfortable. The window latch was broken. The shower unit was so tiny that the shower curtain inevitably touches you when you shower. Overall, not somewhere I’d want to stay again.

This hotel is like a bad joke. They advertise shuttle service, but it is not available. No breakfast, however, to be fair, the restaurant, which is open from 5 pm, is good. They are supposed to provide code for the room to get to the hotel, but they didn't. You need to wait by the door until somebody comes, and then call the number in the hotel lobby to get the code to the room. All of this is for 240 dollars a night. The hotel lobby and rooms remind me of American horror movies, with no lights, unattended reception, etc. Overall, a bad experience for a ridiculous price.

Convenient to KEF, one night is ok

Able to check in a few hours early which was very nice. Thin walls and very loud front door which meant you could hear it slam at all hours people coming and going. friendly Staff. Bathroom was tiny, no where to set anything or hang towels. Broken toilet paper holder.

No amenities. Towels were flimsy. No true bathroom the sink was located next to the bed. This hotel is listed as a luxury ocean view hotel and our room overlooking a rooftop and parking lot. The only plus was the attached restaurant. Our room was above the hotel restaurant entrance and door slammed from 330-930 at night. Not recommending this hotel

Nice hotel and restaurant next to the marina. Can stroll around the area. Quiet place to sleep. Check in is easy and straightforward.

Would be nice if they update rooms with new pillows and bedsheets. They are clean and smell great but the beddings could use an update.

Great location minutes away from airport or those seeking a trip to see the lava field!
