Pros - rustic charm in a very convenient location with very useful airport shuttle. Cons - bathroom had terrible smell, no Aircon - the room was so hot had to leave patio doors open 24hrs. Easter island is really safe but still felt uncomfortable not being able to lock the room up.

The staff are courteous and polite; however, effective communication often requires the use of translation tools. Breakfast is satisfactory. While the housekeeping team is making an effort to maintain the property, the overall condition of the hotel requires significant improvement and major repairs.

The rooms lack air conditioning, relying solely on fans. There are also concerns regarding pests, including mosquitoes and flies, and I encountered a lizard in the room. Additionally, leaving the door open may allow animals such as dogs or chickens from outside to enter. The rooms have a noticeable mold odor, and there is no hot water available.

This hotel may be suitable for a short stay of one to two nights, but it is not recommended for longer visits. Overall, the property does not meet expectations for VIP access.

Hotel on the island. Don't expect a look like in four seasons, for example, everything is very simple and ascetic. Clean, the staff tries to help you as much as they can. Everyone speaks Spanish, but they speak English at the reception. Breakfasts are standard for the island, sandwiches/fruits/coffee. Very good location. WiFi works only in lobby

Tupa Hotel is primitive compared to a budget hotel in the US. No AC in any of the rooms & humidity is about 75-80% every day with temperatures only fluctuating a couple degrees per day & night. March 2026 78 during day, 75-76 at night. Only the receptionist speaks English. Breakfast is deli meats, cheeses, bread, coffee, tea, yogurt, fruit. The staff is incredibly friendly & do their best to accommodate your stay. Chickens, horses, dogs roam loose. Groups of guests can be extremely rude, self-righteous, and pretentious. This is a good choice to sleep & shower but luxury it is not. If you’re here to experience the island, stay at Tupa. If you’re here for a world class experience, pay a lot more to stay somewhere else.

The location of this hotel is absolutely excellent. Unfortunately, like much of the infrastructure on this island, it is rundown. The air-conditioning wall unit in our room worked well and kept the room nice and cold. Frankly, that was the highlight of the room. Geckos on the wall, towel service only every third day, a mediocre breakfast service without even eggs and lukewarm weak coffee and extremely laid back/lackadaisical staff were the norm.

The bathroom had a god-awful stench that would not disappear even if you kept the bathroom door closed 24/7. Three days in the room stopped having any hot water and it took them in an additional three days to get us lukewarm water again.

Other than the air-conditioning, the only redeeming feature was the reasonable price, but all said and done would not stay again.

Nice breakfast (not a lot of variety but good). Shuttle to/from airport was helpful. Wifi was limited area but great where it was accessible. One of, if not THE WORST, hotels I've ever stayed in! We booked it based on previous 8-10-star reviews, but now I'm about to think that those reviews were either fake or made up. I really do not understand how someone can rate it 10 or even 8 stars. There is nothing good about it at all. It's hard to find any part of this hotel not chipped, scratched, broken, etc... The bath towel and bed sheets are smelly. The bed is uncomfortable. There is no WiFi in the room, only around the reception area. The breakfast is poor. And be ready to be woken up in the middle of your sleep by rustlers, they are right next to your patio door, in a couple of feet. I'm giving 1 star only because there is no option to rate it 0, or even negative 1. This \"hotel\" desperately needs to be fully renovated.

La amabilidad de la srita que nos entregó la habitación del primer día es de destacar, la localización es muy conveniente. Sin embargo, es un hotel extremadamente viejito y con mínima atención a la limpieza, estuvimos 4 noches y en la noche 1 mataron una cucachara en la habitación de al lado y nunca recogieron el insecto muerto, la habitación que nos tocó se veía a simple vista recogida pero la cobija y las paredes se veían sucias y no hacen limpieza todos los días solo recogen la basura. De amenidades solo hay jabón y shampoo (dos minis shampoo para toda la estancia por qué no reponen diario), la malla de la ventana estaba rota e ingresaban lagartijas y cucarachas de muchos tamaños, el baño no servía del tanque, les avisamos varias veces y nunca hicieron algo por intentar ir a ver y arreglar el problema, sin mencionar que todo estaba roto o sucio incluso el lavabo de manos. El ventilador súper sucio y las toallas de baño están en condiciones deplorables (son trapitos deshilachados). En cuanto al desayuno solo colocan diariamente unas pequeñas charolas con rebanadas de jitomate, queso, jamón, pedacitos de alfajores, y rebanadas de fruta y un poco de pan (aunque la reseña diga que uno de los mejores desayunos). En fin, fue una sensación agridulce, la Isla mucho que ofrecer pero en servicio, atención y limpieza hace falta mucho camino x recorrer. El turismo sustentable no va separado de la higiene, presentación y servicio que es parte de la experiencia

I stayed there for 7 days room condition was terrible, outdated, not clean, cockroaches and other insects were in the room and hallway, breakfast was inadequate, not enough foods to serve daily, tea was cold, at time we had to wait for staff to fill out emptied plates. We had to ask to cucumber and tomatoes basic requests and they didn’t have it. It was terrible I would not stay here again. Staff responded slowly or ignored messages until I came to the front desk. The property is run down definitely not qualified as hotel standard.

Convenient airport shuttle. Convenient location that is an easy walk to main downtown area. WiFi only worked in breakfast area and was spotty even there. Rooms were mediocre/rundown - floors and walls were dirty. Hot water was sporadic. Bathroom was moldy. Bed was comfortable but had bits of dirt or sand and a couple of dead bugs in it. There is no A/C. It probably was a nice hotel at one point but has not been updated or maintained. Staff were helpful but did not seem happy to be there.

The room was substandard. The shower, sink and toiled drained onto a covered trough in our patio before going into a septic tank that's vent was less than five feet from the patio. The chairs and table for patio were flimsy. There was no WiFi in the rooms only some spotty coverage in the lobby. We had no hot water for showers for half of our stay. The property is home to what appears to be dozens of chickens with roosters crowing starting around 3 am. You have to keep the sliding door open, since all you have is a pedestal fan for cooling. Let's not mention the dead roaches everywhere... which makes you wonder were all the live ones are. Location was great, but the place was disappointing. I really wanted to like the place.

We booked a sea view room which in the Expedia description mentioned as a renovated room and were allocated to a garden view room that was far from being renovated.

On a hot day, the room gets smell of plumbing, there was insects in the room, we got a broken window in the bathroom and overall the room was very old, including the linen used in the bed.

Although there's the bad side, the hotel is in a very convenient location, you can walk into town and to the airport as well, and even tho the room was not the best, it had a comfortable bed.

The breakfast was a continental breakfast, simple but enough to get you going for the day. The transfers to the airport are a great service the hotel offers.

The best part of the stay was their team. The people working in the hotel were lovely and helpful. So, they made up to the down side of the rooms.

Check-in at 3pm, not 1pm like advertised. We booked to rooms, in both rooms the showers were broken (and been like that for a long time - as the units were rotten from water damage). Patio doors on both rooms don’t lock. Calling the rooms ‘rustic’ would be exaggeration, dated or hostel level would be appropriate. Cockroaches visit everyday (the large size that can fly) and you get woke up every morning at 5am by cockerels. Keep an eye on the chicken, they are friendly but cheeky and will come int the room on their hunt for food. Staff friendly but also seem to prefer being on their phone more than doing their job. Breakfast buffet very basic, but staff try their best. Airport pick up was great, but drop off you need to keep an eye on the time and remind staff to get you to the airport on time. WiFi works at reception:lobby area and is free and reliable.

Everything was bad from beginning to end.

I was given a tinny economy room. I reserved a double room. When I demanded what I paid for, I was given one next to the chicken coup which roosters woke me every morning before 5 am until 10 am. The bathroom sink was plugged, the tile floors broken. Everything filthy dirty. No AC, no fan. No amenities. I asked that nobody enter to my room, they did enter. Breakfast with very limited options. Not even as continental. No TV. No internet. Most of the time not even on the public areas. At some point no electricity.

A stay amid mold and filth!

The place is filthy beyond words, from towels to the floor, to the bathroom rug. I don’t think they clean the place. There’s mold in the rooms, not just on mine, but on many other guest rooms, and the paint is peeling off. The place is not maintained at all, it is falling apart. It is a shame that Hotels.com would list this property among a place where a normal person can stay. It should just be rented to cattle as I don’t think it is suitable for human habitation. While the breakfast buffet is OK, they do not check the room number, so in theory anybody can go there and eat the food of the guests. The services they offer, from Travel service to repair of the rooms is extremely disorganized. Their book of complaints is full. I am including some pictures. The talk over breakfast is about the complaints other their guests have about their rooms, or their stays in general. Many choose to leave. For example, it took them two days to give me the role where you put the toilet paper, despite asking them several times, including the general manager. The toilet seat had to be held together with tape because it did not work. It took me another couple of days to get the tape so that the lid will not follow me every time I used it.

The accommodations are modest, at best. The service is generally not welcoming or friendly. The breakfast was disappointing. Everything was minimalist. The clean towels appeared dirty and had nasty stains. I would say that it lacks love, care and attention from leadership or ownership. The best I can say is that the bed was comfortable. It was expensive for such a poor quality and level of service. I would not recommend it.

The location is beautiful and close to everything. The hotel is older and needs some upgrades, but clean and the staff is wonderful. Everyone is very nice and helpful. The breakfast is good and you can get cold and hot water all day long for tea or coffee. Also they can help you with booking tours around the island. All in all it’s been a great experience.

Nos quejamos por el estado de la habitación y nos cambiaron al día siguiente a otra que estaba mejor pero aún así a pesar de tener AC estaba muy sucia.El servicio de habitaciones se limitan a hacer camas y poco más. Claudio no da a basto. La comunicación previa a la llegada no existió por lo que no sabíamos que había recogida en el aeropuerto, de casualidad los vimos. Desayuno basico , pero correcto.

The staff at Tupa hotel is very helpful and speak excellent English. This is not an island where you find luxury hotels. The facilities are well-worn and basic. Given you accept that, you would do well to book Tupa hotel for the kindness and service. Bed was comfortable. Storage plentiful. Location convenient and they were wonderful about picking me up at the airport and taking me back. On time and efficient. I had an ocean-side room with a sliding door that opened on a mini-patio. One thing you should know is that the cleaning person always left the sliding door open to air out the room. This helps prevent mildew in this tropical climate. So don't leave valuables lying around. This wasn't an issue for me since I don't travel with any valuables other than my passport and money, which I keep with me at all times. One thing I wish I knew before I went was that they can book you tours at the hotel. I booked separately and had an awful experience on the tours. Check with them about tours when you reach out to book. A beautiful island that is still rustic.

Welcoming and friendly staff, transportation from and to the airport, but… Don’t fall for the word ‘hotel’ in the name of this property. The official guiding brochure of Rapa Nui (Easter Island), which I came across at the property while checking in, qualifies it as a hostel with all that it implies. Don’t want to be too lengthy, but suffice it to say that there was no single hook in the bathroom for a towel, not to mention other bothers. The breakfast was tasteless with really limited options and lots of sugary stuff, no warm food, no eggs, watery coffee. For those who need minimum conveniences, this “hotel” is kind of tolerable; otherwise, you’ll be disappointed.

I hope you like COLD showers

NO hot water for the shower. The sink got hot water to it, but the shower never did. There is a small note on the mirror instructing you to run the hot water for a few minutes for it to appear, but it never did. I let the water to the tub run for over 10 minutes and it never got hot. The tub drained very slowly and I could not run it any longer dut to it nearly overflowing.

Outdated property with good staff and nice vibe. The shower did not worked, most of the hotel has noticeable issues with humidity and requires repairs. The breakfast was below average but heard that is the standard across the island, although the food in general at the island was really good (specially sea food and ceviche). The tour operators from the hotel were great as well as the cleaning and service staff.

I was unlucky with my stay at Tupa Hotel, when I entered my room I was met by a large cockroach in the bath, I'm not keen on bugs and it spoilt my 3 night stay, it made me feel like the room was unclean - although without the additional guest the room would have been perfectly acceptable.
There was a large group of noisy Chilean guests also staying there which didn't make for a quiet and relaxed stay.

First, the people were all very nice and hospitable, especially Rafael. The hotel is conveniently located in town close to a convenience store and walking distance to various restaurants. Outside of that, I did not enjoy staying there. Breakfast is offered—the juice is freshly squeezed and delicious. I’ll leave it there. The room was clean. As for toiletries, two smaller than usual bars of hand soap are offered but bring your own bath soap, shampoo and conditioner. We left (knowing we would not get a refund) and stayed elsewhere, because the air quality in the room made me cough throughout the night. No A/C, but there is a floor fan in the room that we did use and made the situation worse for me. I don’t know why. As soon as I walked in the room, I’d cough. No screen doors. Not that I noticed many bugs outdoors. Again, the people who work here are very nice. This was just not a good match.

I paid for a queen bad and was provided with a single bed my first night. I was moved after I complained about this matter. It was also extremely noisy the first night. I was in an area by an activity center with a dartboard. At 1 AM to 3 AM. I was disturbed by this annoying. Noise today. The staff was understanding and move me to a better area.

This hotel is a dog for solo travelers. The room for singles are very small, No AC, No fan, One bulb was burned out in the ceiling fixture. I made two requests to have it replaced but it never was. A dimly lit , small room with a single bed. There were cockroaches on the floor, but at least they were dead. The rooms for couples looked a lot nicer, but singles are a leftover. This hotel is mainly for large tour groups that stay in the nicer rooms. There is a continental breakfast, that is sparse, but ok, unless you happen to eat after the tour group of the day, then it is a pretty bare leftover selection. I had paid for 4 days up front or I would've gone to a better hotel. .

Grew on me. Good, quiet, location

There are nice things about the hotel. They pick you up and drop you at the airport. It is quiet and has a great view of the ocean and is in close proximity to restaurants and the main part of town. The staff are nice but don't expect 24 service. The rooms are big and clean although the condition of the main part where they serve breakfast could use a refresh and my room had water damage in the walls and the bathroom grout in places had issues. They also had a big pile of dirt in front of my porch as they are building a new wing. Not all rooms have AC but I didn't feel I needed it. Request it up front if you need it The place is what I would call typical of a tropical local that is more basic. Don't expect luxury but it is nice and relaxing. Staff spoke some English.

A nice place to stay

We enjoyed our short 2 nights stay at the Tupa hôtel. It's very conveniently located but also quiet and peaceful. The staff were all very helpful and friendly, the breakfast was good, and we were even able to hire their car for a day and a half for $75 which was very reasonable compared to the airport agency prices. All in all good value for money.

Clean and as expected average hotel

The hotel is close to the town and the rooms are clean. As described, it's not a 4-star place as the rooms don't have a safe, air conditioning, TV, phone or other standard amenities. The WiFi in the lobby is not very good with all the guests trying to use it at once. Some of the staff spoke English but it really helps to speak Spanish (as I did). They did pick us up at the airport after a small wait.

Wonderful Paulette organised everything to make my time in Rapa Nui one of the highlights of my trip. I was picked up and dropped off at the airport for free (even though that required a double trip for her) with a fresh lei to welcome me. The hotel is surrounded by bougainvilleas and hibiscus with a horse grazing outside. Breakfast was varied and delicious. Laundry was done for a cost. All my tours were booked according to my wishes - just as soon as I arrived. Wifi never connected (it's pretty isolated there!). Shower was hot. Room was cool. Bed was clean and firm. The other staff spoke little English but were helpful and courteous. The hotel is a block away from the main street in one direction, and the coast in the other. Rapa Nui is generally expensive - but it's unique! I would go there again in a heartbeat.

Quiet but close to town

Nice view of the water and garden. Place is very quiet and relaxing - just what I needed. Place is close to many restaurants and the coast. Room was very clean and charming. Staff were also very welcoming. Unfortunately,my friends and I had booked at a different place in the island (my one night stay was due to my late booking for air ticket that required me to arrive a day earlier) but otherwise I would have loved to stay here for my entire stay. Breakfast is basic - bread, cereals, sliced ham and cheese, banana, coffee and juice.

Loved the location of the hotel, it's very close to the main street where major stores and restaurants are. Breakfast was more than what I could ask for, very good. Staff was friendly and accommodating. The only downside was the internet speed but that is expected for a remote island.

Decent hotel in Hanga Roa

My wife and I stayed at Tupa Hotel on a recent trip to Easter Island. Close to everything in Hanga Roa, we had a big room which serviced us well during our time there. Most things on Easter Island are relatively expensive so keep that in mind when comparing hotels.

The hotel has a relationship with the Rotary Club so large groups of members seem to often stay there which is nice to converse with other guests. There is much room for improvement but it appears they are working on it.

The place was quiet and comfortable. Staff was helpful and provided information on the area, and arranged tours and suggested places to visit. Shuttle to and from the airport was available. Rooms were clean and neat. Just a nice quite and well designed hotel.

A bit rustic, but friendly and priced right

Our room was very large, with a view to the ocean. There's no AC, but we cooled the room adequately with a fan. Bed was comfy, but hot water for the shower was limited; sometimes plentiful, sometimes not. Breakfast was typical for Chile. Front desk service was friendly and helpful, and most everyone can speak English well. We had a late flight, so paid for late checkout to be able to enjoy one last afternoon on the island and a hot shower before the flight. Its the tropics, and our room did have one large cockroach. Why does this freak people out compared to a cricket, a grasshopper or a fly? Just one didn't bother me, but many parts of the facility seem \"un-loved\", like a torn screen, or faded paint, or sticking door. Despite the need for some TLC, everything worked. If you want lush gardens and fine finishes, you'll likely find them in the pricier establishments, but we found the Hotel Tupa's price point, and short walk to downtown, to be a sweet spot for us.

It is one of the most remote places...

I am torn whether I would recommend this hotel or not. It was basically like a hostel. I understand we are on one if not the most remote islands in the world, but where is all our money going to? It is not going to fix up the hotel I can guarantee that. It wasn't a horrible stay, but it definitely disappointed going from nice boutique hotels in Santiago to this one which was the same price. Ha, also definitely a motivator to get the heck out of the room and explore more. Staff was great, very helpful in planning tours, etc. Location is good too, I'm glad it's not on the main strip, but also not too far, about 10 minute walk to the main area and all restaurants/shops. I would stay here again given the lack of choice on the island and the huge price difference to stay in a nicer hotel. Hopefully one day they will spruce up this hotel some more.

Awesome trip of a lifetime.

Starting with our pick up at the airport, it was great. Our manager, and God forgive me, I cannot remember her name, was on top of everything, wonderful, warm attitude. She has spent time in the US, so if English is a concern, no worries.

She was so wonderful to my daughter and I, I would gladly return the invite to her to visit California!

Book it- great rate in an expensive area

Stayed for a week. Hotel is great: clean, roomy, comfortable. There's a patio, and an ocean view from the grounds of the hotel.
The bathroom is big, with bathtub.
It's a quick walk to the beach, the town, restaurants, etc.
Esteban at the desk is an EXCELLENT resource, use him for all your island questions- he has unbiased answers.

Breakfasts are good, and the big breakfast room is fun to meet the other guests.

the WIFI only works in the lobby and breakfast room, not in the rooms, which can be a pain but works out pretty well. I started and ended my days there and got up on everything.

Hot water was a little dicey on busy days, but was great almost all of the time.

We got what we expecting

I travel outside the US once a month or so, and the ratings Expedia gives hotels outside of the States seems to consistently exaggerated (or, conversely, maybe their standards for hotels in the US are higher). It's not a complaint, it's just you have to be realize that their definition of a 4 star in London is probably only a 3.5 star in the States. And when you really get off the beaten path, their idea of a 3.5 star like the Tupa Hotel is really a 2.5 star back home. But I can live with that - it's just a matter of managing expectations. And to a certain degree, since I'm almost always using their \"Unpublished Rate\" deals (though not this time), I'm probably getting the lower end within their ranges.

The Tupa Hotel's staff was phenomenal, their location is excellent, we had all the hot water we needed in the morning and the Internet worked fine in the lobby even when a half dozen were using it. Just realize the download speeds are slow as should be expected when your 2500 miles from everywhere else. The rooms, however, could use some serious reconditioning.
