Its such a shame. A Beautiful mansion house that clearly needs some tlc and money spending on it. The building, grounds and amount of staffing needs addressing urgently!

Lovely relaxing spa would benefit from some relaxing piped music, room was spacious comfy big bed and quiet no noise from other residents could be heard. Evening meal \"curry night\" was excellent value and breakfast was cooked fresh to order would highly recommend.

Stayed here for a treat for our 20th wedding anniversary. Building is very interesting and the stay was great. Food in the restaurant was good (but be warned - the chef obviously likes his chillies judging by my Arrabiata and my wife's King Prawns!)
The pool/spa was great - everything you would want and very clean.
Would recommend for a relaxing break - go on treat yourself or someone you love.

All members of staff were friendly and extremely helpful. The accommodation and facilities were in a very good condition though our room was in need of upgrading to match that of other rooms. Would have liked to have seen a working safe and a fridge in the room. Spa facilities were excellent as were the dining options with no shortage of food on offer. We had a three night stay and would have gladly stayed longer had we been able to. Will definitely return and recommend this establishment for those seeking a peaceful and relaxing break.

The hotel is beautiful but it’s evident that it’s being run on a low budget. The spa facilities are great. The communal areas such as the toilets were filthy. Staff rarely offered a greeting. The check-in process was terrible and set the tone for the rest of the stay. The breakfast experience was positive with friendly staff. The hotel has potential to be a gem but poor staff and lack of cleanliness in areas really let it down

Lovely hotel, not far from Anglesey Race track. Some rooms could use some TLC. Service was lightly poor as everything I wanted on the Menu was sold out. Swimming pool was cold, but hot tub was relaxing. Was able to order a early breakfast.

This hotel is a beautiful old building in a lovely rural setting with some great original features.

However we were somewhat disappointed with the cleanliness of this hotel.

It is clear they are going through a slow renovation process, with a clear difference in quality between areas.

This hotel is a beautiful old building in a lovely rural setting with some great original features.

But sadly on arrival our room was not to the cleanliness we’d expect for a 4 star hotel at £150 a night. Dirt on the mirrors, mould throughout the shower, broken toilet seat and hairs all left in the bathroom. We requested a room change due to the state of the rooms cleanliness and sadly no options were available, but more disappointingly no one came to rectify this issue that day or any further days of our 4 night stay. The room was not cleaned at all during our stay, just a daily top up of tea/coffee.

Issues with cleanliness and attention to detail is sadly the fact for the rest of the hotel with the spa feeling tired and outdated and again dirty, glasses lipstick stained and abandoned communal rooms dusty with rubbish left lying around.

However the staff throughout were lovely and helpful and the breakfast had a good variety of options and catered to the individual needs.

With some improved attention to detail, updating and higher standards of cleaning this has the potential to be a wonderful stay but sadly due to the issues it was not worth the price.

Very disappointing

When entering the room we were allocated, I noticed that the carpet hadn't been hoovered properly and the floor and skirting boards behind the sink and toilet were dirty. There were no bathrobes or toiletries in the bathroom and there was water on the floor, which turned out to be a leak coming from under the toilet basin. We were told that they would get someone to fix it asap, but nobody arrived during the period of our stay. Apart from the first day we arrived, the Clock Tower Wine bar & Cafe was closed. No staff available and apparently no chef, so we could only get something to eat in the Italian restaurant for lunch and for our evening meal. The food was average. Glasses were not collected or tables wiped in the library from Saturday night for the rest of our stay. There was also a large stain on the floor outside the library which wasn't cleaned until Tuesday morning. There was no receptionist on duty after Saturday and there didn't appear to be anyone in charge of what appeared to be quite young staff, so nobody to discuss our concerns with. For a 4* hotel my husband and I were very disappointed. It was not what we expected.

Couple's stay

Lovely quiet location. Nice grounds. Hotel reception deserted could have done with sign saying we needed to check in at spa reception. Staff were very pleasant especially lady at check in. Room spacious but needed attention. Curtains falling off the rail, wallpaper around window mouldy, mould around shower screen, dirty bathroom floor. Room too hot as we were unable to turn down the bathroom radiator which was very hot. Stain on mattress protector, carpet needed a better vacuum around the edges. 6 bedside lights but we only managed to turn on 1! Nothing major to complain about just needs more care. Breakfast was OK, no vegan bacon available either day, poached eggs undercooked on day 1 overcooked on day 2.
Shame because it could be great. I have photos but app won't let me upload.

Simply Abysmal

As soon as we were settled into our room a strange noise was noticeable. At that stage didn’t know if it came from noisy plumbing or something else but reported it immediately. Was told someone would be alerted. Retired to bed later and became apparent noise came from an adjoining room, either loud conversation or tv? Expected it to be turned off before midnight. It wasn’t and continued beyond 2am. Tried to call reception but bedside phone not working. Knocked on wall and on door of adjoining room but no answer and tv still blaring away. Walked down to reception (a considerable distance) nobody there, just a contract number. Nobody answered but I left a message. Returned to room, tv noise still unbearable. Returned to reception and found the key to the adjoining room. Knocked, no answer so I entered to find the room empty, bed made up and tv left on! Staff who had prepared the room thoughtlessly had left the tv on and locked up the room! We didn’t manage to get any sleep until 4.30am. Abysmal, thoughtless service. Failure to act on a reported noise problem, impossible to contact anyone in authority. Reported the story the next morning. No apology, nothing but given an email address to contact the management. Three email attempts, no reply. Hotels.com failed to comprehend the problem (eventually thinking it was a booking cancellation issue and offered £15 one key credit!) and multiple chat and emails handled by numerous people. Dreadful!

We were initially attracted by the pool and spa, and booked a massage for my wife's birthday - facilities here are excellent, though the jacuzzi was unavailable. The Hall generally has an air of the shabby-genteel. The bedrooms are tired, and the occasional frayed carpet or faded décor on stairs and in hallways are to be seen. Most staff are friendly and helpful, albeit somewhat disorganised. However one female breakfast staff offered no help or information, and seemed to communicate in grunts. The breakfast itself was average, but the steak I ate for dinner was the best I can remember. So, mixed impressions. We would stay there again - the building and grounds have a distinct charm. Some attention to décor and further staff training to produce consistency of service would be helpful.

Lovely hotel, some rooms are excellent and exceeded expectations, spa facilities, main hall, library, bar and restaurant are beautifully renovated, and we were allocated room no.17, sympathetically decorated in keeping with the character of the Hall, the bathroom was very modern and clean. Spa was great, pool sauna, steam room very nice too. We had an issue with the TV and staff did all they could to fix the problem, even brought in another TV and we could use apps more easily. The restaurant food was very good, really enjoyed our meal. Overall Staff very accommodating and friendly which added to a lovely relaxing weekend.

Very mixed - behind the grand appearance there are some real blind spots. Excellent spa, but a very well equipped weights room was only discovered by chance as the sign outside said “Lecture Suite 2”!! Pool nice but overheated. Food not consistent with a 4* establishment - who wants cheap sliced bread for toast in the morning! Our chips one evening were soggy. Many very young staff - under 18 - don’t have experience of customer service. Some days our room was well serviced and cleaned - other days not so. Request for a twin room wasn’t accommodated when we arrived. Reception staff knock off about 9pm so you have to ring a mobile number if you need anything. Mobile reception non-existent and WiFi kept dropping out in our room. Ripped curtain lining. Stained lampshade. Very heavy duvet - in July - we cooked! Absolutely no atmosphere or vibe - the place felt neglected. Has won many awards in the past - but not so recently. Feels like it’s on the slide, or trying to recover. Needs a deep clean. Has masses of potential as it’s a lovely location.

Attention to detail missing somewhat

Friendly staff who I feel are let down by a lack of investment in the building, infrastructure and facilities. Crockery was clean in the room or at breakfast. Our room whilst on first look seemed fine was grubby with crumbs and dust in the tea tray. It had been prepared for our stay, just not very well.

Dirty and a little tired

Our room was not very clean (thick dust anywhere you moved something and on the bin in the bathroom) and felt quite tired. In addition to this the radiator was stuck on and they could not resolve the issue as there was no maintenance person available. We could not swap rooms either and it was suggested to keep the window open. Unfortunately the window opened out near some sort of extractor and was extremely noisy early in the morning.
The front desk was hard to get hold of after 9pm and the phone number for it was not answered.

Positives were that the room was a good size and the bathroom was a good size.

I expected more from this property. When we arrived the main reception was cordoned off without any signs until you reach the doors so we had to go around the building in the pouring rain to find the spa reception, they could have signed it earlier pointing to go to the spa reception to save you some time. Upon leaving we had realised we completely missed out the fancy rooms near the recption due to that part being closed, I think I would have really enjoyed those rooms. The reception staff were lovely and helpful, couldn't fault them at all. We were taken to our room, which felt special but the wardrobe hadn't been cleaned out as we had old socks in there from past guests I presume. When we went to the spa there were a few dead flies and a dead spider on the floor around the pool and facilities were the same as a spa I go to at home but this one costs three times more. Heated floor in the changing room was a nice addition though. When we went to have food at The Clock Tower restaurant, the staff were awful, they were forgetting everything we had asked for: to clean my placemat as it had something sticky on it, our drinks, sauce we had asked for with the meal. I'm not sure of the work ethic but something wasn't working there and you'd think the standard would be high with service at a restaurant in a 4 star hotel. Otherwise the food was absolutely delicious. Luckily, the staff at breakfast were much better and could prioritise the guests. Breakfast was lovely, a nice spread!

Being refurbished.

Having stayed here some years ago we were disappointed with our room and there only being a temp restuarant.....I have to say the hotel is under refurb and what they had done was lovely ie corridors and main reception hall...our room ..no 8...was very large but had seen better days..ie paper peeling in places and thick dust could be seen on the swags on the curtains..albeit it very high up....bed nice and large..clean and very comfortable.
Bathroom again very large and was nice..think it had been refurbished..
No bottled water just a filled bottle and only 1 small biscuit between two of us.
Staff saved the day by being so helpful and pleasant ..they could not do enough for you..we did not complain or anything during our stay...they were just very good especially the lady on reception, the lady who showed us to our room and served breakfast..who had been there 18 years and the two young ladies in the restuarant and bar who were under a lot of pressures as the place was full and the wait times for food were quite long ie we waited about half an hour for our dessert..not their fault as they were doing the bar and serving.
Swimming pool was big...very cold but had a nice swim and jacuzzi...
I think once the rooms are refurbished and the lovely restuarant that used to be there reopens it will be a lovely place to stay again.
Overall despite disappointing room we did have a pleasant stay as staff were so good.

Really good stay over in NW Wales.

Good hotel. Friendly staff took the time to enquire about our stay, room, dinner, etc. Plenty of parking, spacious rooms, comfy bed. Dinner and breakfast were really good with a good selection of wines, beers and spirits. The only issue was the indoor pool temperature was too cold. My wife and I, and other guests we talked to in the pool thought it should be warmer. Other than that we had a good stay over. I'd stay again if I was in that area.

Bad luck conspired against us, staff were helpful

Lovely room, lovely spa. We had an issue with a noisy snoring neighbour and were moved rooms at 11.30. The replacement room was chilly (heating wasnt on in that room it seems in the day) and not as nice - and the bath water wasnt more than lukewarm until 6 am, but the staff were helpful and apologetic. We managed a few hours sleep but it did unfortunately take the shine off the birthday celebration. Breakfast was great, i would return but probably in warmer weather.

Most of our stay was very good; pleasant and helpful staff etc. BUT our plane was delayed and we would not arrive until after midnight. We called to advise of this and were told there would be a telephone number on the front door to call for access. We did (at around 1:20 a.m.) call 8 times and no answer. Ended up having to drive 15 miles to find another hotel that had night staff. When we went back the next day the front office staff were very apologetic and went out of their way to make us welcome and paid for our other hotel stay. The issue is after missed connections and a transatlantic flight and a 2 1/2 hour drive in the rain we were very tired! Not good.

A wonderful relaxing place to stay on the beautiful island of Anglesey. The team were very friendly and the room and spa was great. Only downside is the evening menu which caters for one cuisine that not everyone may like.

There's true magic here! The most incredible, memorable experience with magic both inside and outside in the beautiful gardens and grounds. The staff was so kind and went above and beyond to make each moment special for us, we were so amazed and grateful. The rooms were so well kept and peaceful, the best sleep we had in the whole two week trip. The spa and pool was phenomenal, and Thomas the masseuse was incredible and really helped us relax - highly recommend a massage with him! We would, and will, stay here again the first chance we get! Thank you for the kindness, the magic, the beauty, the rejuvenation, and the special memories!

Beautiful place

Very friendly and helpful staff.
Pool was very warm.
Lovely spa facilities.
Beautiful woodland walk, and we saw a red squirrel.
Breakfast menu looked minimal, but when a request was made off the menu they were more than accommodating.
It’s a shame we couldn’t look around the main house - this was shut to the public, unsure why.

Our short break on the Isle of Anglesey.

The hotel was clean and comfortable although somewhat isolated which did not bother us. The main hall at the hotel has been shut for several years which restricts the evening dining and the food available. The gym and spa facilities where in my view excellent. Every day of our stay was accompanied by brilliant sunshine which made the break so much more enjoyable. I would recommend this premises.

Friendly and comfortable hotel on Anglesey

Hotel was comfortable with good sized bedrooms and a decent swimming pool with sauna/steam room. The main house and restaurant were unfortunately closed when we visited - our room was in the 1990s extension. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful, if a little thin on the ground. This is apparently due to the after-effects of COVID-19 related closures. The hotel appeared well maintained throughout, but some of the decor clearly dated from the late 1990s and would benefit from modernisation. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return when the main house and restaurant reopen.

Pleasant, country hotel

Really enjoyed our stay and if opportunity arises we’d happily stay again. Staff and services were excellent.
The only negative is that because of Covid aspects the hotel had only been re-opened recently so possibly short staffed, some access restrictions to parts of the hotel due to construction, resulting in currently there was no dinner offerings.

If you are after a secluded venue with no views then this place could be what your looking for. Firstly the staff are great all very nice. We stayed on Valentines night 14th Feb 2020. Our room was not very romantic or private (No19) we were near the front door and overlooking the car park area. So curtains had to be closed for any privacy. The room, cup ring stains on the furniture and windowsills, large damp patch above window a half circle about a 16\" diameter. No shower mat in the shower, kettle was the cheapest of the cheap very tacky. It is a noisy hotel so if you want a good nights sleep ear plugs are a must. The bed is very comfortable and large so very nice. Bathroom towels are also great, Thank you. In the room there were two welcome handbooks, these were minging! Very very dirty had not been wiped in a long time and the information papers inside also very tired and need renewing. While we were there we enjoyed the swimming pool on site. The changing rooms reminded me of my old schools changing rooms again tired and scruffy. The swimming pool area itself also looked unkempt. Paint pealing off the ceilings, the metal loungers were well battered and paint chipping off them. The wicker seating was also the cheapest of the cheap. £200 sets, again poor. On the ceiling where the extractor fans were, well again can't be healthy, the areas around these fans were dirty mouldy and looked grimy. Not what was expected of such an establishment. We dined during the evening as it

Great amenities (pool/gym/spa)! A+. Only two things stopped me from giving it the perfect score. 1. Sub std coffee available in the room. 2. The Internet was not available throughout the duration of my stay.

That said, I would definitely stay again, I’d just take my own coffee and a good book next time.

Very quiet, needs attention.

First, the staff were very nice. Place. Out of the way, quiet, main areas very well presented. Spa. Very nice pool, sauna and steam room. Hot tub not very hot though did get warmer after mentioning it. Room. In the main house, nice and large, needs better housekeeping though, spider web in window still there 5 days after arriving and dust behind the bed. No heated towel rail in bathroom so wet towels, dressing gowns etc hard to dry at this time of year. No heating in room as of 4th October. Very quiet in fact nearly morbid. Recorded music in dining room but nothing elsewhere. Maybe better in the summer, lots of grounds to explore but not in the rain.

The location was good for a quiet restful break and the hotel has character - faded elegance but with style. We enjoyed the breakfasts and Dinners, served in fine style in the traditional dining room and conservatory overlooking the garden (breakfast). The central location made it easy to access any part of the island but you do need transport.
All the staff were pleasant, helpful and competent and made us feel welcome.
