Clean and great beds in a very walkable area of San Diego.
Check in was slow due to so many people checking in at the same time and only 2 staff to help general guests + hotel guests.
Breakfast is not included in room rate but was tasty.
Staff service about the area was poor -- basic questions (such as \"where is the closest trolley station\") were answered with: \"I don't know, check Google.\"

Still, I would definitely stay here again next time I visit San Diego.

No valet parking and you had to walk around the block to a sketchy garage. No Bellman and there is no elevator. We are 73 and 83 and had to carry our own luggage up and down flights of stairs. No telephone in the room. Incredibly noisy. So much so that they leave earplugs on the nightstand.
The food at the restaurant was delicious. But that had nothing to do with the hotel.

The room was clean but there were not enough towels even though we had booked for three people. Staff. Were not helpful in getting more towels and were. It friendly. Parking was behind the building and had to walk passed people shooting up drugs to get the car. The hotel was in the gas lamp but the area was not well maintained. There was lots of noise at night which made it hard to sleep including a dying carbon monoxide alarm that beeped the whole night. Def not worth the money

This is why we won't stay there again. It is not ADA friendly as it has no elevator. There is no housekeeping services. Rooms are very small. No chair. Very noisy all night. There is something down stairs that plays loud music late. Portable A/C that is very loud. Finally the neighborhood is full of homeless with tents and tarps on street.

The room was clean. Location wasn't the best as it was a bit loud since it was right next to the street. The room served its purpose since we only needed it to sleep and shower. Staff helped us up the stairs with our luggage since there is no elevator. I loved their coffee and tea station that they had. It was available the entire day. we also received a $25 credit that we used for our breakfast at the restaurant downstairs. Really good breakfast! We were suppose to get a free bottle of bubbly wine but we didn't. Not sure if we were suppose to ask for it even though it was on our reservation.

Old building with no elevator all of the rooms are on the second or third floor. You have to walk upstairs with your luggage, they did help to carry our luggage. The furnishings are very simple and the linens are pretty economical. We borrowed an iron and it blew the circuit in our bedroom. We were preparing to go to a dinner event. The person at the desk that not concerned with our situation and did not repair the electrical issue before we had to leave. We left without finishing the ironing nor were we able to use lights in bathroom to get ready. By the time we arrived that evening, it has not fixed.

The hotel itself is cute and has a good location if you don't have small children. It's located next door to Hustler Holllywood- I'm sure I don't need to elaborate more- plus tent city is about a block over. The rate to park is ridiculously high and it has gated parking but anyone can just walk into the parking garage, so it seems a little redundant. There is no elevator, but the guy who checked us in did help us bring the luggage up. But honestly the worst thing about it was that there was only a tiny portable A/C unit in the room and the whole family was miserable and fighting for a little piece of the air. Cute, but will definitely never go back.

Staff was great, building was very nice and different feel than a normal generic hotel. The food in the restaurant was very good and the staff there was great as well.
Quick walk to gaslamp, petco, and a lot of food choices. Was also a very short drive to zoo/balboa park, and the airport.

Cons: no fridge in the room and only a rack for clothes/luggage.
I chose a “view” room which was slightly more expensive. The “view” was the street below my window and the 15 story building across the street.
Last issue isn’t with the hotel itself, but the location. As long as you went toward the stadium and Gaslamp it was okay, but the area around the hotel was fairly heavily populated at night by drug use and people obviously on something or having other issues. Again that’s not the hotels fault, but it was something very noticeable especially getting there late at night to check in.

Check-in was easy and staff offers to assist with luggage due to there being no elevator -which was great. Location was downtown and dirty outside. No parking/valet unless you circle around building to next street over for an off-site 3rd party parking garage. Internet in room was down so we could not use the TV (booked this hotel for a rest day to watch TV in bed) and the shower had a leak which pooled water in the bathroom, no phone located inside room to alert downstairs desk. Ear plugs are provided because it is in the downtown area and the nighttime is incredibly noisy. Bass can be felt from music up until bars close around 2am.

Here’s a balanced review that stays within typical review-site limits and focuses on your experience:

We stayed here for two nights and had a mixed experience. The staff were friendly, helpful, and accommodating, and the rooms were clean and well maintained. However, the noise issue was significant enough that I would not choose to stay here again.

When we checked into our first room, which faced the street, we noticed earplugs were provided. Unfortunately, we quickly learned why. The hotel is located in a very lively party area, and throughout the night we could clearly hear traffic, people talking, laughing, and other street noise. It was so loud that it honestly felt as though the windows were open. We barely slept our first night.

What was most frustrating was discovering that we had signed a document at check-in stating that the hotel is not responsible for noise and that no refunds would be issued. In my opinion, this should be disclosed prominently in the online description before booking rather than after arrival.

The next morning, I asked if we could be moved to a different room. The staff were very understanding and quickly accommodated our request. Our second room did not face the street, and despite also having earplugs provided, it was completely quiet. We slept much better and had no issues with noise.

Another thing to note is that there are no elevators, so we had to carry our luggage up three long flights of stairs.

My room was exceptionally small and barely large enough to accommodate the bed.
* There were virtually no meaningful amenities provided.
* The surrounding area was excessively noisy throughout the night, with cars racing along the street and individuals shouting outside until nearly 5:00 AM.
* The only amenity offered was a pair of earplugs! And I used them!!
* There was an erotica superstore adjacent to or near the property, which further contributed to the uncomfortable atmosphere.
* The air conditioning unit was extremely loud and positioned in the middle of the room with a vent connected to the window, requiring the window to remain partially open throughout the night and significantly worsening the outside noise.
Additionally, my reservation confirmation indicated that I was eligible for a room upgrade. However, the front desk person declined to honor this benefit despite the apparent availability of an upgraded room. I presented my confirmation to the employee, but he refused the request because the upgrade eligibility “did not appear in his computer system.”
The only positive things I have to say is that the lobby, bar, and hallways were very pretty. Other than that, a horrible experience but fortunately the Manager the next day was kind enough to refund me for the next three nights that I did not use. I left immediately the next morning.

The hotel is quaint and definitely a \"boutique\". The room was nothing more than 2 beds, a wall-mounted TV, 2 very small nightstands, and a free-standing rack on which to hang a few clothes. The bathroom had no vanity, so getting ready in the morning was a challenge. There is also no central air. The room had an \"air conditioner/dehumidifier\" which was OK once we learned how to use it. Our room faced 6th and was VERY noisy. One morning, while drying my hair, the power went out in our room. The only things running were the hair dryer and the dehumidifier. It was very early -- I had to call the front desk to tell them (from my phone because there is no phone in the room). They responded promptly though and flipped the breaker somewhere in the hall near my room. If you are looking for a quaint place to lay your head, I'd say it's OK. If you want any kind of comfort, look elsewhere. Oh, I did appreciate the 24/7 Starbucks coffee station!

Excellent location, Awesome customer service. However just a few things to be aware of. There are no elevators, but the staff will help you with your luggage. The parking is in back of the building so you have to travel around the building to get into the Hotel. I did not have a phone in the room so make sure to have the front desk number saved to your Cell phone. I had to call for Iron board, more towels etc. They are very helpful with your requests. Enjoy your stay!

A gorgeous historical hotel in a fabulous location, however, it was not made obvious that because of that there are no elevators. I came with an ADA person and we were on the top floor of a sold out hotel. Additionally, while there was an AC unit in the room it was very small and never cooled down the entire room. We were lucky to be there when it wasn’t very warm. I can’t imagine staying here during the harsh summer months.

The restaurant is excellent and the wait staff very kind and attentive. I highly recommend the breakfast. The hotel sends a few texts reminding you if you need something to text them, but they don’t respond to the texts and it’s hard to find anyone at the front desk after 9pm. Beds are very firm ( too firm for me but some may like that). They don’t service the rooms daily so you have to go to the front desk if you want towels etc. Portable cooling units cause the window to be partially open so prepare for street noise. It’s a very cute place but not very comfy. Price is very reasonable so overall, you get what you pay for.

When checking in, the staff were very attentive and welcoming, which made a positive first impression.

However, after arriving in my room, I carried out a routine check and found multiple small hairs and some stains on the bed sheets. I returned to reception to request a room change. At this point, I was assisted by a different member of staff who informed me I could not be moved and would need to wait for the room to be cleaned, despite it having already been prepared. Unfortunately, no apology was offered, and the interaction left me feeling quite uncomfortable.

Shortly after, the original staff member returned, apologised sincerely, and kindly arranged an upgrade to what I was told would be a clean room. I appreciated this effort. However, upon checking the new room, I again found several long hairs in the bed, along with what appeared to be toenail clippings in the room. Due to my earlier experience, I did not feel comfortable raising the issue again and instead cleaned the area myself.

Additionally, as a solo female traveller, I did not feel safe in the surrounding area. There appeared to be a significant number of people sleeping rough nearby, which may be important for other guests to be aware of when considering their stay.

Overall, it is disappointing to leave this review, especially given the positive start. However, due to the cleanliness issues and my overall experience, I would not choose to stay here again or recommend the property.

Clean and interesting period decor. Love the architecture of the hotel and the rooms with exposed brick. Would definitely stay here again. Loved the location- central and easy to walk and explore. Of note, there’s no elevator so be warned but the staff gladly carry your bags up the flights. Next time, we’ll pack light. But the hotel was great.

Sure it’s a nice building but I paid an absurd price for 3 nights in a microscopic room
-no closet
-no desk
-no chair
-nightstands 1.5 feet lower than the bed
-facing the street so screaming/yelling/racing cars/loud music all night long
- portable AC unit that was roaring all night long
- bed smelled sweaty
- ice bucket (no liner) had been wiped out with a used cleaning cloth
- room cleaning every other day, not that they actually cleaned, just made the bed and swapped most of the towels
- fresh ice in an ice machine on each floor, but with the scoop (handle and all) sitting in the ice, nice disease vector
-tried to charge me for a “damaged towel” that wasn’t in my room
-literally next door to the Hustler store
-absolute awful neighborhood

It was hot outside and the window/hose air conditioner was not up to the task. It was covered in mold. Half of the time it didn’t work. It was extremely noisy. Between the noise and the heat, sleeping was difficult. When we tried to open the window to let in cool air at night, the street noise was really bad. Ask for an interior room or use the ear plugs provided.
