This was our second stay here. We love the location the most! We can park our truck and walk down to the beach area during the day come back and get ready and walk over to the Gaslamp area for nightlife! We had a blast! The rooms are always clean and stocked and staff is friendly and quick to provide what we need when we run out of some things! We will definitely be staying again thank you!

The room itself is nice modern air-conditioning works great however the staff is not very friendly and a little unprofessional. They’re absolutely no amenities however they charge for amenities. 20 daily.The parking structure is next to the hotel and you need to pay $40 and they give you a public parking pass so you do not get a ticket.

The property is located in a central area to the pier and the gaslamp quarter. The hotel is obviously older, but well maintained. We did have issues with the wifi and the accent light between the beds not turning off after maintenance had left for the night. I was compensated with the resort fee being refunded for that night.

Place was too stuffy… ac unit was not working and room didn’t have all the amenities it said it would have. I upgraded to city view... the only thing you could see was the street and the business building across from the hotel with chase bank. Not worth paying extra for the “view”

I booked a room to stay here for the weekend because of its great prices. I wish I wouldve paid more and stayed somewhere else. I arrived to the hotel around 2pm aware that check in was at 4pm. Droppes mt bags off, returned at 7 to find out my room was still not ready. I booked a room for 3 people, in return I was given a room with 1 bed until my room was ready at 9pm. Noone came to help take my bags to the new room. I was just left with a bag cart to do it myself. Once I arrived in the correct room, I found blood on the pull out bed sheets. House keeping came to remove the bedding but only to replace it with a mattress cover, no sheets. I had to call again to have housekeeping come make up the bed. Terrible service.

They charged an additional $35 daily fee in addition to the room price that they claimed they could not add through the Expedia platform. Seems like they should just bake that into their true pricing. Location was solid. Property felt pretty dated.

Love the vintage style of this old but updated hotel. The front desk staff were great, super friendly and helpful and even allowed us early check in to our suite. The room was nice, but there were a few minor things needing attention. The room had no beeding for the futon. Alot of the recessed lights around the sink area didnt work, there was only one tv control even though there were 2 tv's and the slider door for the batroom was off center allowing gaping holes on the lower sides between the door and wall not allowing much privacy. Other than that, great little hotel close to all the DT action.

While the hotel was convenient and clean, our room did not have a window that opened. Not even a crack. That was a little strange since the room smelled of cleaner. Which is good to know it was clean but we would’ve like some fresh air, even a little. The mini fridge was great and so was the view. The sheets were not cotton, so that was a little uncomfortable. The doorman/valet was especially nice! We also received complimentary bottles of water and it was cute seeing dogs around. Would stay here again in a pinch but it is just not my first choice.

I booked the premier king suite it was a modern and updated room. I called the hotel ahead to plan a special birthday surprise the hotel was very accommodating they offered a birthday package that came with a small cake, champagne, and decorated room with balloons the color of my choice. Everything was perfect the staff was friendly check in was fast and smooth the room was clean we stayed on the 7th floor it wasn’t to far for any bars and restaurants Perfect weekend getaway THANK YOU for a wonderful stay.

The hotel was beautiful. The staff was celebrating its 100th year of being around. The building is a cool historic building. Staff very friendly and building very clean. The only thing we don’t like was our thermostat was broken and let turn

We had a great stay at the Sofia. The staff was professional, friendly, and responsive to requests, with a definite focus on guest satisfaction. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The historic nature of the building means that some rooms are small, but well worth it, given the walkable location of the hotel (close to Gaslamp, Little Italy, and The Embarcadero). Terrific place to stay in downtown San Diego!

The hotel is very well located in downtown and the rooms were very clean and super nice fluffy towels. Soap and shampoo in shower were very nice, but only a small bar of soap for the sink. This hotel does not have any catering/restaurant, so if you arrive late like we did there are no food options other than door dash. Rooms are small and walls are thin (had to bang on the wall at midnight because we could hear the Tv in the next room). Although there is coffee service in the room, they did not restock it until we asked (2 days later) and they did not restock creamer and sugar. TV selections were poor with no streaming options and seriously old cable options.

I had reserved a vip king studio that was suppose to have a jetted tub but instead had a a leaky shower that soaked the floor and almost killed me. was told i would get two bottles of water upon check in and did not. Hotel itself is cute in stature but you can tell it is old when you look at the moldy and peeling baseboards as you sit on the toilet. Staff was nice upon great. They did say in the confirmation email that they would offer to upgrade my room for free upon check in due to my vip status but did not unfortunately.. not even my water. Satisfactory stay...parking was easy a little spendy at $40 a night. But it was convenient and you could upgrade to 50 for valet but i have a manuel car so i usually dont deal with the hastles. Pick up only starbucks on the corner was great.

The hotel is central to everything. We were in walking distance to the gaslamp, seaport, restaurants, etc.. They had a water fill-up station which saved us money from purchasing water bottles. The room needed a deep cleaning. The furniture was dusty and the phone was dirty. The TV would often need to be reset. It's an older hotel and they plan to renovate to bring some of the amenities up to date. Our stay was quiet and peaceful. Please do not knock on the door early in the morning multiple times to refresh the room if no one answers. We need rest. The staff were available to ask questions but didn't ask about our stay. Overall, my stay was average.

The staff was good. However, the room had three separate hairs. One black hair in the sink, one black hair in the shower, and one grey hair on the bed. Also, there was a candy wrapper on the floor underneath the vanity. They need to do a much better job of cleaning. That’s the stuff that I found and I’m sure there was more. Also, one of the lights in the bedroom kept turning on automatically, and I had to call management at three in the morning to come and remove the lightbulb because I couldn’t do it myself. Overall, not too good of an experience at this hotel.

We were greeted by the younger Scott working the front desk and he was very friendly. He helped us get our parking and room set up. We liked the room and loved the walk in shower. The hotel was convenient and within walking distance to may attractions in the Gaslamp district. Only negative is the parking lot was very small, difficult to get in and out of, and expensive. $40 per night self parking or $50 for Valet.

Worst things all there hidden fees they took $250 deposit on my credit card and charged every penny for different made up resort and taxes they were charging daily fees . Never again

I only have 3 downsides to this hotel. 1. My room did not look like the pictures at all. It was a mix of “modern” and old. I was just happy there was no bugs. 2. The hallways are really creepy and dim. It’s like walking through a hunted Mansion, I thought a ghost was going to pop out any minute. 3. The parking here sucks. There are only about 20 spots that those who choose self parking and you have to sit and wait until someone leaves. The rest of the parking lot is for valet but when those spots are filled they use the 20. The parking lot is also public parking so many others come and park there as well. One night it was so bad that lines of cars were waiting. Only one valet guy came and took all our cars and packed them tightly into the lot. I had to pick up my keys the next morning. I couldn’t really hear anyone around me except for when the housekeeper was cleaning. Everyone was nice. I don’t recommend going with valet because there was always a long line wrapped around and it seemed like only one guy wanted to work while the rest just stood and talked. Over all just walk quickly to your room, don’t do valet, and don’t expect it to look like the pictures. I was told it was renovated in 2005 so they might have posted the pictures from 2005.

Weird noises with the air conditioning and walls not soundproof AT ALL. We were able to hear the people next to us speaking and it was very hard to sleep. The bed itself was not very comfortable and the pillows were not supportive. It is an OK place to spend the night, but is definitely not luxurious or how we anticipated it would be.
