Welcome drinks missing. They just kept quiet until check out time we saw a standing signboard abt welcome drinks for room guests.

A haunted hotel room

We were given room 1004 and it is haunted. Our room was blackout and in total darkness for 4 times as the room card flew off to the ground by itself breaking the circuit.
It was on the ground each after we placed it back, we immediately request for changing of room and no questions were asked by the front desk.

The hotel has a good location near Hongling metro station and Grand Theater Metro Station. There is a mall nearby and the room is very comfy. We didn't like the smoky smell in the hallways/elevators and that the pool was closed in July 2020.

Overall I would say Novotel Shenzhen doesn’t reach our expectations. The first night we ordered food from the hotel and it came with cold food did’t taste good and also a terribly torn nappkin that’s really unacceptable. Before we were thinking to have breakfast in the hotel but after this we decided not to. And other thing is the hotel not even provide convertor and which it is a very basic equipment. Therefore the only socket we can use is the USB socket, but we found out it didn’t work since they told us due to the hotel policy they blocked the socket. That’s really odd. After we complained, they gave me one convertor and which didn’t work neither. I would say really speechless for this experience. Only the bed it was comfortable.

It is in a vey good location, just seconds from the subway exit. The hotel is clean and comfortable, and the room has a free mini bar with a Coke, Sprite and Beer that is replaced every day.
The bathroom was nice and clean and the toiletries were nice.
There is also a small gym that is free for guests to use.

Dated , old and not worth the budget

The hotel is very old and dated . For a daily rate ranging from 100-130 sgd per night , you will be far better off paying an additional 50 sgd more for a five star hotel .

The bed is old and I found a stray pubic hair on one of the twin beds .

Staff was very nice and offered a free breakfast and apologized profusely for the room .

This is more of a budget /motel style stay .

The hotel is in pretty good condition and the room is very comfortable; both the bed and the room were very large. The room had all the common facilities such as hairdryer, slippers, and toiletries. The bathroom was big and had a nice shower. Convenient to walk to the metro station and to the nearby park for a little stroll.

Quiet and hidden in the middle of the city

Very good value for a 4 star hotel in the middle of Shenzhen near Luohu District, the hotel is well maintained with a modern & minimalist design. The reception staff is switched on and efficient and polite. It was an enjoyable stay!

Horrible hotel: injured me, non-clean food, bad TV

This is the most horrible hotel I ever stayed.
I agree with others bad reviews here. and please read them yourselves too.
Here are some additional problems:
-The sliding door from the room to the bathroom was damaged and injured me and got a lot of blood. After several days, there are still blood. The hotel does not have good first aid. With my repeated request, eventually I got some bandit. and I still blooded for several days.
-The breakfast was not clean, especially the fruit. I got diarrhea immediately after the breakfast. The diarrhea was so sever that I had to change my pants in the middle of the day. After 2nd morning, I stopped to eat their fruit. This helped with my diarrhea.
-The TV was very small at most 32 inches? And it could only show part of the regular movie/TV. The sound is horrible. With the price I paid, I can have much better rooms in Shenzhen.
-The beds, as others said, are very hard and small.
-There are some smells in the room and hall way.
-The environment/view of the hotel was horrible. Basically, bad view.

It is overall more like a shady low cost motel than a hotel. Don't go there!

Our stay was great! When we arrived we were given a room that had a noisy aircon outside. We asked if another room was available and they moved us to a much bigger room without question. Everything was as you would expect from Novetel, clean pool, gym and great breakfast.

This is my 2nd stay, the front desk mixed up the keycards. Beside that, everything was smooth. The rooms are decent sizes, and pretty clean. The front gate does not face the main street thus it's a bit tricky for the taxis to find the place.

If you like sleeping on a concrete floor and hate good service, book this hotel. Otherwise steer well clear! There are plenty of better options available around the city. In short, I didn't sleep at this holiday, as they don't believe in a good mattress and the management just found this all very funny.

Good Shenzhen hotel for Business and Family stay

Hotel is located near Hua Qiang Bei business district. Taxi from here to HQB is just 15 rmb. Located on Main Road. Walk to MRT is about 10mins and nearest one is Grand Theatre train station. Shenzhen popular building King 100 is located nearby. Convenient store is below hotel. Taxi is easy available from main road. Main Entrance to the hotel is at the back of the building. Hotel security is good because without Hotel card visitors cant go up so you won't expect surprise guests to the room. Mini bar was free throughout the stay. Check in and check out was very fast and easy. Friendly English speaking staff. Do not use the hotel safe as not convenient and old age model being used, your stuff might get locked inside. Staff helped me to open and take out.

Worst internet ever.

Worst internet I had in china. I'm at the border of HK and I cannot even have a good internet. Some conference call without video were even cutting. The maximum I had was 3MbDown but more often around 0,5Mb down.
If you dont need internet (who dosent) it's a good place...

Very small gym comprising only three pieces of equipment, two bikes and one treadmill (one bike with slipping pedals). There is also a small pool. Wifi connection was very poor and not able to connect to a number of sites I tried outside China (not a problem I have had in any other China hotel).

Very nice, inexpensive hotel in downtown Shenzhen.
Most of staff is fluent in English and very helpful in making transportation arrangements.
Hotel is located near subway and shopping.
Just across the street is a very nice public park with many social activities throughout the day and night; a great place for an after dinner stroll.

The hotel is ok. More like a nice Ibis than a true Novotel. The neighborhood of the hotel is good. It is across the street from the Shenzhen Communist Party Headquarters and near to Terminal 1, a very poplar mall. Walk from the Science Museum metro is about 4-5 minutes at most. Hotel is a little hard to spot as it is not facing the road and the sign is not very big. My biggest complaint was the completely in adequate fitness center. Staff was helpful and room was clean enough.

Good Hotel in City Center?

My first trip to China and Shen Zhen. The city is spread out over a very large area. I think I was in the financial center.
I took the ferry from Hong Kong airport to She Kou port (about 1/2 hour) then a taxi to Novotel Watergate ( about one hour to hotel, next time I will take direct coach from airport to hotel, much cheaper and takes less time).
The hotel is located across the street from Lizhi Park and near KK Mall ( the tallest building in Shen Zhen), you must take the underground passage to reach both. The Shekou and Luobao lines can be accessed at the Grand Theater.
The park is a gathering point for dance and song at night and is a very safe area.

Bed as hard as rock, a little overprice

It's was unfortunate that the hotel gave me a corner room due to over-crowding, and the room is much smaller than the regular room, that once my luggage is open, I had not much space left to walk! There is no shower/tub combination nor weighing scale as stated by the hotel.com and novotel website. The bed was absolutely hard and awful, and I feel like I'm sleeping on the floor without any mattress. The hotel was poorly located, and to make matter worse, the only underground pavement that leads to the Grand Theater Station is closed due to construction works, and it is almost impossible to get to the subway or the shopping mall for food. This is not even a 4 stars hotel, probably 3 stars with a pathetic lobby. Breakfast was acceptable, and the staff provide good service.

The hotel is good like any regular 3-4 star hotel would be . Gym pool all is there as well . The rooms don't have a microwave so be aware hotels.com has given in false info . To use the microwave we need to go to the second floor . The mini bar is free has juice coke and beer .

The tv has only 2 English channels and no paid channels . The hdmi connection etc don't work properly. No iPod station in the rooms

This hotel looked tired and certainly not what I could consider a four star hotel. It felt old and dirty although it was clean. The room was what I think of as a US budget hotel type room. Nothing special and adequate for a one night stay. Certainly not what I would think of as a four star hotel room. By far this room was a disappointment compared to the four other hotels we stayed in while in China.
The staff was not very helpful and wrong about information they gave us. We had asked if breakfast was included on our reservation and was told no only to find later that breakfast was indeed included. We missed out and were not happy about it.

Things to know...

1. Hong Kong is NOT considered a part of China, so even though no Visa is required to enter Hong Kong, a Visa IS required to enter Shenzhen where the Watergate Novotel is located.
2. Even though the Hotels.com listing specified that a shuttle is available from the airport, it has limited hours and you must schedule it in advance...there may even be a separate charge for it.
3. A bench tucked under the escalator on the 2nd floor restaurant area makes a decent bed, and as an added bonus, you will learn to say \"please watch your step\" in Chinese.

second time i stayed at this hotel, the only real issue was my driver to pick me up never showed up, i had to take a limo to the hotel from hong kong, which wound up costing me a little extra in cost and time.but the manager sent me a nice fruit basket to offer their apology which was very thoughtful. breakfast buffet was nice and staff very friendly and kind and helpful.i would stay here again, because of the location and the service, room cleaned efficiently every day, and offer to do laundry every time housekeeping came in while i was [...]concierge very helpful and always called cab quickly and helpful when asked..atm right on the front of the hotel so if you need cash you card will work here...great visit, thanks novotel watergate.
