Staff were very friendly and welcoming. The property is beautiful and I would definitely recommend booking their wine tasting - worth it! Restaurant on property is also great and super convenient. The rooms are a bit tight if you have lots of luggage but we made it work. Bathrooms were okay. Always clean but also tight. Shower was lovely - hot water and great pressure.

ABSOLUTELY STUNNING. My husband and I brought our 7-year old for a 10-day trip in Italy. We explored Rome and Florence but the highlight of our entire experience was staying at Villa la Palagina. The surroundings are gorgeous, the food was delicious, and the staff was so warm and gracious. It was the perfect getaway from the busy city centers. We booked a wine/olive oil tasting and we got to bring home a souvenir bottle that our son poured and corked directly from the barrel. While the furnishings in our villa were a bit rustic and outdated, the AC and main pools more than made up for it. Especially on those 95+ degree days. 5 stars across the board and I hope we get the chance to visit again!

Amazing place to spend more than just a night, if You are travelling around Florence. very nice escape from the city.
The place offers lots of activities like their own made wine tasting, also the area is huge, You can wander around in vineyards. Very romantic.

Very old property in need of maintenance. There was no water when we arrived but the staff did not mention this to us. Internet was down. At 4 am we were all woken up due to a fire alarm at the property. However none of the limited staff that was around, knew what was going on or what to do. All of the hotel quests were standing around outside in our pajamas for about 45 min. The alarm stopped and we eventually decided to go back in. There was no instructions provided, no fire department and no apologies. Very poor management. Would not recommend nor would I go back to this property.

Had an amazing time at Palagina. The grounds were absolutely stunning and the rooms clean. A small few things they could focus on is giving the rooms a bit of a face lift as they do seem dated and improve ventilation in the bathrooms to avoid the mold. Also screens on the windows so you can open them without the worry of bugs getting in. Enjoyed eating at the restaurant and loved the wine/wine tour. I would definitely recommend.

Beautiful location and space. Service and restaurant not very accommodating to guests. No food anywhere on the property from 2:30-7 pm so very difficult for travelers. No connection to taxis or transportation. Offered little help. Restaurant service was interesting….

I absolutely loved our 2 night stay here, don’t think twice and just book it. Had some trouble finding property at first as it is divided in two areas, so make sure you set your maps to the right location. We were in complete AWE once we got our room and walked around the property which is just absolutely BEAUTIFUL. The views are stunning as its on top of a hill, especially with early morning light. We didn’t originally planned for it but we ended up doing breakfast and dinner both days as the restaurant is one of the best I’ve been to, specially dinner menu. Lastly, their staff is what I’m most grateful for; we had a medical emergency and everyone was so kind and caring and managed a very scary moment for us, wisely. Thank you for all you did for us. Will definitely come back and hopefully stay a bit longer.

This property was terrible. After expressing to the front desk about the cleanliness, they did nothing to rectify the issue. They make it seem like they care, but they don’t. The selection of food here is terrible. The customer service is deceptive. They don’t care if you have a great stay. They only care about collecting their money.

Came here for our honeymoon. Absolutely loved the property. The wine and olive oil tasting was FANTASTIC! Highly recommend to anyone. The wine options were also incredible.

The only feedback would be to have some different options of food on the menu. Very reasonably priced menu, but staying there for multiple days I wish I had a few more dinner options.

Our room was in the third floor. No elevator and no help to carry it. There wa a bug in our bathroom that I to kill. Shower was slippery and they even warn you about that on written post. So, be careful when you take a shower. Restaurant options were not so great. The risotto my wife ordered was not cooked. You could feel it cracking in your mouth. So we returned it.

the positives: the grounds of the hotel are incredible & the view is second to none. The pool is great. The staff is friendly - although I didn’t see much of them.

Sadly - the interiors are dated and furniture in the rooms is due for an update (there were tears in the couch upholstery in our room / very dated linens on a chaise). This property has so much potential - I’d love to see it get an aesthetic refresh. Also good to note - the wifi wasn’t reliable.

Highly recommended! Beautiful quaint hotel

We booked this hotel last minute as we were shopping late in the nearby outlet mall. We ended up having a very comfortable stay, the staff is very helpful and friendly. There are two pools onsite with beautiful views and the food at the restaurant is delicious! Their Chianti reserve wine is amazing and such a steal.

Not only was this property as stunning as in the pictures, but the comfort and customer service were top notch. Nataly at the front desk had incredible English and made us feel so welcome and at ease. Yummy food in the restaurant. (A good amount of vegetarian options.) The pools are just lovely. And the ever present sound of the fountain was so peaceful.

If we are ever so fortunate to return to the Tuscan countryside, we will absolutely come back here.

Front desk manager is rude and unpleasant through a number of interaction. Needs to reconsider his career in the services industry.

Amazing separate Villa for large groups

Villa Margherita at La Palagina is an amazing place to enjoy the awesomeness of Tuscany with a large group of friends and/or family. We were 9 people and it was perfect for all of us to stay in comfort in a characteristic Tuscan villa. The pool is perfect for hot afternoons and the outside seating area is phenomenal for a dinner al fresco. Absolutely recommended.

Nice, but wouldn't return

We stayed in the 2 bedroom villa (Belvedere), which is separate to the main villa but still part of the Villa la Palagina. Judging from what we saw of the main villa, we thought Belvedere was more rustic and less frequently booked than the main villa: and therefore perhaps not as well tended. When we arrived there were dozens of large bugs hidden in the folds of the curtains when we opened them: we understand it's the country, but the curtains obviously had not been moved or aired for quite some time. The front desk quickly sent someone over to dispose of the (visible) bugs when we asked them to. There were also other small things such as the fact that none of the power points were suitable for a standard EU/Italian power plug: we asked the front desk for a converter to the triple power point and they kindly loaned us one so that we could plug in our phones/hair appliances one at a time. There were also a number of other things overlooked, like shades missing on the lights in the bedrooms. The main villa looked much nicer and more elegant, we would stay there if given the choice again. The bathroom products were very nice, and the outlook from the Belvedere villa was lovely. We ate at the restaurant once, service was very slow (especially the sommelier) but the food was nice enough. When we checked out we were asked to pay an EUR80 final cleaning fee which was not mentioned in any of the booking information. When we explained this the hotel disregarded the fee.

We loved everything about Villa La Palagina. We stayed in Villa Belvedere and it was beautiful. Spectacular views from it’s position on top of the hill. The gardens were immaculate with 2 swimming pools. The staff went out of their way to provide genuine first class service. The food from Chef Marco was the best I have eaten (and I have been to Italy 6 times!). Palagina is a magical place my family adored and we will be going back soon

Outstanding pools! 4 star view, the hotel needs to pick up in a few areas for an overall 4 star experience however. The hotel and environment is stunning but some of their facilities need attention. E.g. very noisy air con sporadic rattle which woke us up, bathroom door latch noisy and stiff to open, bathroom aged/cramped, safe didn't seem to work, pillows and bed/linen could be better quality. We loved our stay, especially the farm near by, fantastic pool, and delicious breakfast.. just needs a bit of TLC to get back to 4 star quality.

Great Tuscany Feel.

Had an amazing stay at this place. The staff was very accommodating (i.e. after operating hours meal provided despite being in closing process). Lounging in the big infinity pool overlooking a great view or waling in the countryside was a very memorable experience and a welcome reprieve from the cities. The cottage I stayed at was cool although I'd recommend the bathroom and kitchen be updated.

Amazing hotel, we ate in the onsite restaurant every night which was very good. The room was clean and comfortable. We were on the ground floor next to the main entrance which was noisy at times with people arriving however this didn’t effect us too much.

Wish we could have stayed another night or two!

My wife and I stayed a night here on our way up from the Amalfi Coast to Florence. Hotel La Palagina was nicely appointed on inside and has beautiful views of the Chianti countryside and the surrounding vineyard and olive groves on outside. The service was great and the staff was very friendly and helpful. We loved the house-made chianti and olive oil and both the dinner and breakfast we had at the restaurant were excellent (my wife really appreciated the gluten-free options since she's celiac)! I think the only minor drawback was that we had a bit of a hard time getting the temperature right in the room since the heat was on everywhere, but it did cool down a little bit when we opened the windows. Overall, it was a great stay and we wish we could have been there longer!

Despite the fact that the rooms do not smoke, when you check in you feel that the previous guest smoked a lot in the room. I had to ask to change the room. It was also smoked, but a little less. The staff is helpful and accommodating and had no problem changing rooms. The smell is very strong. The kind that makes your head hurt. This is a problem due to the fact that the hotel works with large groups of tourists from China, which are characterized by the fact that a lot of smoke, are not disciplined and do not know other languages. There is nothing wrong with that, because the world is diverse. But, the hotel then needs to spend more time cleaning and talking to the group organizers so that they explain to tourists from China the rules of conduct in the Hotel so that all hotel guests feel comfortable, not just them.

Overall it was just okay. The location was a bit remote. We didn’t have a great experience with the restaurant. We asked if they were open they told us yes and to wait 5 minutes before going to sit down. We waited about 20 minutes and went into the restaurant to have dinner only to be told the kitchen was shut and they wouldn’t serve us.

This was a last minute booking for us, and turned out to be one of the best places we stayed our entire trip around Italy! Absolutely Gorgeous place!!! We felt we were in paradise! This is Tuscany at its finest! I will say though, the train station in the small town is rather sketchy and you should arrange for transportation before you arrive because there are no taxis or anything there. Sketchy people at the station, we felt in danger.

Not as advertised - very small rooms

We booked a \"Superior Double Room\" which was advertised on the website as 377 square feet with a separate living room. What we received was an extremely small room, probably 100 square feet, with a bed and two chairs. Certainly not what was advertised. When I asked the staff, they said this is the room that was booked but does clearly not fit the description. Hotels.com should update the information to reflect what you are actually booking.

It's a beautiful estate and the staff was very nice an helpful. The only thing I would give lower scores on is their restaurant - their dinner menu is very limited and pricey for the very small servings. We would definitely stay there again and just skip going to dinner there.

This was the perfect end to our Italian get-away! The staff throughout the facility was outstanding! They were friendly, helpful, cheerful. The restaurant was SPECTACULAR!!! Two of the best meals we had while vacationing were at Palagina! The chef is FANTASTIC! The front desk helped change train reservation without hesitation..she knew exactly what to do. GREAT RETREAT for us weary travelers. My one suggestion...bring mosquito spray in August!!!

The Director shares his philosophy of care and service with his excellent team. Wonderful cuisine with Chef Massimilliano paired with expert sommelier Stefano create a truly majestic dining experience. Front of house Nataly is friendly, professional and welcoming. Relax by the two pools or in the herb gardens. Vista of vineyards and olive groves. Secluded hotel... really off the beaten track... you need a car!!!

Only downside is the restaurant menu, the setting is gorgeous but the choice is not. It’s iust too fancy now, even less choice than a year ago and forgot it for the kids.

Other than than all wonderful. And I will still go back but have to eat out.

This place was absolutely beautiful! The rooms are clean and comfortable and the Villa is just absolutely beautiful. It's airy and open and the view is stunning. There are 2x pools and a pool bar... a highlight of our trip so far. The only thing that I would say is that dinner at the restaurant is quite expensive.

An oasis in a hot week in Tuscany

Loved loved loved staying at Villa La Palagina. Spent 4 night in July in 30 degree + heat so we modified our very tightly packed itinerary (Chianti towns do Rhadda + Greve etc and Siena and San Gimignano and Volterra etc) to include morning by the pool and then head out across Tuscany for afternoons and evenings. Hotel pool and grounds are beautiful and with 2 huge pools and a relaxed compliment of staff, it made ourselves and our kids very happy. Plus we got the benefit of late evenings in these towns when they’re quiet, and we got to see boar, porcupines and Jared on the drive home

We were only there for 2 nights but had a great time in the area. There are small Villages you could visit within 10 - 15 minutes. Also had a great experience in a wine vineyard! Hotel location is excellent and the view from the back over looking the pool is stunning.

Best weight loss program in Italy

We rented the ultimate villa on the property. Unbeknownst to us, it was not serviced by the resort. It’s easier to get food in prison than it is here. It’s easier to get wine at an AA meeting than it is here also. Never, I mean never have I heard “No” more times at a hotel/resort. It seemed as though the staff was taught to say “No” before any requests were made. We were so looking forward to our stay here. Dissapointment is an understatement.

Perfect image of Tuscany

From the moment we checked in Palagina was wonderful. Beautiful rolling hills just out your window. The pool(s) were very clean and had lounge chairs to relax in. I cannot praise this villa enough. By far the best place we stayed at on our 10 day Italy tour. The hotel grounds were impeccable, the staff was by far the nicest Italians we encountered, and our room was something out of the movies. We would stay here again and again! One tip..... Renting a car in Florence was a fiasco and driving in Italy isn't easy. We will definitely take the train to the city the villa is located and use the hotel shuttle next time.

Everything about this place is serene and peaceful. Upon arrival the sounds of Tuscany will bring you instant relaxation. The views? Breathtaking! The host? Attentive but not intrusive.

Great Resort - Great Location

Stayed at the resort while visiting Florence. Beautifull resort in a great location, you will however, need a car to get around. Friendly staff, large clean rooms, and great breakfast. Would definetly recommend to others

Wonderful stay

We had a wonderful stay. Beautiful resort in a stunning location and staff helpful with recommendations of wineries to tour in the area and where to go for dinner (other than the resort itself). Our only issue was that the bed was a bit firmer than our comfort level... but still highly recommend.

Very welcoming and idylic views

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The main building is old, many steps and the rooms are quite large, comfortable with modern facilities. restaurant patio and pool areas were terrific and a real sun trap. The breakfasts were a good continental buffet. We had one evening meal in our 2 night stay. It truly was fine dining with some exquisite flavours and presentation. It was a little pricey and not for large appetites.
We had booked a room that said \"bath or shower\" and did not specify which. My wife wanted a bath so they moved us to another room with no fuss. The location has wonderful views, but is a little out of the way, after all it is a vineyard, therefore a car is required.

We booked a room with a King bed and was given a room with a Queen bed. When we kindly asked the front desk about it and to see if there was anyway to switch to a room with a King bed, he refused and was unnecessarily rude about it. The room was just fine... we just assumed there was a mix up with the rooms and was expecting what we booked and a nicer view from the room from the photos online.

Other than the one employee at the front desk that was a little rude about the room, everything else was wonderful! All the other staff was very kind, inviting and accommodating. The restaurant staff and food was absolutely wonderful!

I would suggest to future guest to make sure that you call the hotel ahead of time and request a cab ride to the vineyard if arriving by train.

A Gem

Our two bedroom suite was absolutely gorgeous and the villa grounds were beautiful. We rented a car and did day trips from the villa (an easy drive to Florence and Siena). I'd highly recommend and will be back.

Nice setting and facilities, inexperienced staff

After spending five days in another less expensive agriturismo location which we really enjoyed, we wanted to treat ourselves and have two of our last nights of exploring this region at this more luxurious villa. Unfortunately on arrival we were allocated a poor room which did not meet the description and was not suitable due to safety concerns. Instead of a family room with a parents en-suite room with a double bedroom and childrens room with two single beds we were given a chamber with a mezzanine platform accessed by a very steep and crooked staircase which is no way suitable for children or adult. The bottom level had a sofa which was made into double children's bed. The platform had a parents bed. As the shower, toilet and everything else was located on the bottom level we had to come downstairs through the night waking children and also to attend to them which was very painful as the stairs were not stable. It took a while to explain our concerns to the hotel reception staff who appear not to see the risks of people hurting themselves falling down the stairs. We were told that the hotel was full and no other rooms were available. On the following day we were given a better room which was safe with everything being on the same level and children given separate single beds.

During our stay there was a forest fire very near the hotel. When we asked the hotel staff what the evacuation plan is they said there was not a specific plan waiting for fire brigades instructions.

Amazing resort and great food and staff

The hotel is beautiful and staff was amazing. Great food and located in a beautiful area. However the one thing that bugged me was that the room I paid for was much different from the one advertised. I asked reception to confirm I was in the proper room and they said yes, they only advertise pictures of one room that was not available to me. Anyways it spoiled the moment for a period but the hotel and scenery made up for it.

JUST INCREDIBLE !!!!

We stayed at the Palagina for 5 nights in 2 different rooms - Casa Fruiti (family style apartment) and Casa Belvedere (a private villa) and both incredible. The views from the rooms and everywhere on the grounds never gets old. It is like we are looking at a postcard!

The food at the restaurant was delicious - not a bad meal. The highlights included Cacio de Pepe and beef carparcio. The house wine was great (only $15 per bottle) and a drinks were excellent (try the \"wine cocktail\").

The staff was very helpful with suggestions for day trips and places to eat off property.

Fantastic traditional Tuscany estate

The views and the surrounding area of the hotel are amazing, the style of the building is a beautiful traditional Tuscany estate. The rooms could be improved in terms of the furniture and design, living room had no coffee table or a couch. The resception also could do a better job at the check in with the explanation of the facilities and answering the questions.

I stayed at La Palagina for a week for my niece's wedding at a nearby villa. The staff was very helpful in helping me to arrange rides to the train, airport or the wedding. The room was large and comfortable. I loved the pool and the abundant swallows swooping over the place. Overall it was a wonderful trip.

Extremely poor service

The lack of customer service on display at La Palagina is astounding.

In the interests of the readers time here is a point form summary, but just do yourself a favor and avoid it. It is a nice view but that's about it.

1. Got put in the wrong room but let it go. There were also no robes in my room and the mini bar was not full. When I mentioned it on check out after our one night, Salem then argued with me about the website that I booked on, told me I was wrong and that it's my fault for not saying something to them and that his portal must be broken. Just like his attitude.
2. No servers come to you when by the pool and there always dirty tables and towels laying around.
3. When by the pool, cocktails served in plastic cups, coffee in polystyrene cups but beers in glassware. Makes no sense. You have to walk inside to order a drink.
4. No hotel guide or room service menu in room
5. Room service number does not work. Got told they probably just took the phone off the hook because the restaurant was busy!
6. Food was good but menu is all confused.
7. Hotel is understaffed. Service is below average.
8. Breakfast was bland. Felt sorry for the two servers, they were run off their feet and the entire venue was a mess. Had to set my own table.
9. Gardener was using the hipper snipper near guests and hit guests with off cuts.

Hotel did arrange a car transfer for me but only after I emailed twice

This place could be great but the training and management is just average.

Highly recommended

We stayed couple hotel during our road trip. This was the best one, so we had to come back for another evening. Friendly and polite staff, comfortable bed and pillow. nice swimming pool with nice view, good breakfast. Good shower+Jacuzzi. Nothing to complain.First day the booking system missed out booking , staff immediately solved the problem offered us a suite. Second time we were stayed in the \"hill view room\", amazing view from the room. We are glad we chose this hotel. If we visit this area we would definitely choose this hotel again. Highly recommended.
