Pros:
- convenient location, beautiful view on the lake, very close to Isla de Flores
- complementary parking very close to the hotel
- friendly courteous staff

Cons:
-building outdated, needs a renovation. In my room the window wouldn’t close and all noises from the lake were in my room
-room was very small, (though quite convenient with a TV and a minifridge)
- warm water in the shower was inconsistent
-wifi signal very weak
- no elevator (which was not a problem for us)

The hotel is in desperate need of an update. Check in was good, the rooms were on second floor and he reserved two double beds. Extremely tight quarters. Beds were comfortable but having two adults and two kids in the room was suffocating. Bathroom needs a thorough cleaning and towels were sketchy. Our TV and the majority of the outlets did not work and we did have a couple of power outrages but it came back after approximately 6-10 minutes. Shower pressure was also an issue. There is a on-site restaurant that was pleasant food and portions were great. There is parking but you have to ask reception to unlock chain since parking is not next to hotel. Hotel location is across from the island.

Beautiful site at edge of lake, great view. Beds were comfortable. A/C worked well- a real comfort on the 100 degree days we were there. Pleasant pool.
Staff were pleasant, especially the dining room staff, who worked overtime for our large group with early breakfasts and late dinners. Some of our group had rooms that needed some maintenance, especially with water pressure issue, but water was fine in mine.
Anyone with mobility issues should know there is no elevator to the 2nd and 3rd floors. The area directly around the property doesn’t have much of interest, but it’s a short walk across the bridge to the main part of town with lots of restaurants, shops, views, activities.

Good value on paper, airport shuttle, breakfast, clean, close to everything.

In Reality: Dirty rooms, stained sheets, bugs in bed (woke up to 2 large bettle bites on leg and arm).. went to staff to explain, they gave me key to room next door (same withoit bugs).. had to change hotwl in the morning but staff did not understand English enough to negotiate refund. Also No airport shuttlw and hotel never responded to shittle requests via Expedia.

I was concerned because I tried to call before going, to schedule a shuttle to pick me up from the airport and to see if i would be able to check in early. I never got through because the number was disconnected. When I arrived I had to get my own taxi and luckily they did allow me to check in. The hotel was very empty I think there was 1 other family. The service at the restaurant was slow but really good. I was also able to leave my luggage in storage since I had an excursion until after my check out... all in all it was good.. oh yeah and the elevator doesn’t work. Reading the other reviews looks like it hasn’t worked for a while . Didn’t bug me at all though went up way more stairs in Tikal and Yaxha

Elevators didn't work, had to go up 3 floors with luggage. Breakfast not included, it should be with such high price. Hotel closes early and have to ask attendant to let you in parking lot and main lobby. Overall it was semi okay.

The staff was great and helped us in all what we need. For some reason Expedia didn't include our breakfast, but thank god for that, we ate the breakfast one day and was bad.

The hotel is under remodelation so the elevator wasn't working (we were on 3rd floor).
Our bed has a small bugs (as mozquitos and bite us all night), the fridge was not working, but they fix it. Also, the air conditioner was working but then it stopped working.

The cortains in the bathroom are so short, the water splash into the entire room.

The view was excellent and the location I can say that the is the best of the place, you can go walking to the island.

They have a small boats to enjoy the lake (free) didn't have enough time to try them.

Hotel is in an excellent location. Front desk staff was very helpful. Room is a tad bit small but is clean and sufficient. Seems like you won't find lots of bigger rooms hotel in this area. The pool was not great...waterfall not working and the elevator is still not working. There seems to be a maintenance issue at this hotel as there are clear visibility of lack of maintenance. Although they try to practice sustainable tourism, seems like this is not translated to staff as housekeepers still change all towels. If going to Ixpanpajul, just go to bus stop in town and take a bus for Q5. Also, purchase transport to Tikal in Flores for Q80 and they will stop you to buy Tikal tickets at the airport....this allows you to avoid long entrance line.

Okay hotel, very rude staff

We booked a room with a king size bed. When we arrived to check in, the woman the front desk was very rude and gave us a double room instead. When we came back to request the king room we had booked, she was not happy and began whispering with another employee for about 5 minutes, completely ignoring us, before finally giving us the key to our room. The difference between the updated king room and the non-renovated double room was night and day. Also, the hotel is undergoing renovations and large chunks of the flooring are missing and the elevator was broken.

All other staff we met at the hotel were great.

The staff were so nice to us... went above and beyond to help us! One of the nights of our stay my daughter threw up in the bed, and they sent a guy up to mop and change the sheets within minutes (boy did we give him a big tip! :)). And then the night after we had already checked out they let us hang out in the lobby with our two little kids until 8pm, since we were taking an overnight bus back to Antigua. And they drove us to the bus station and helped us unload our bags too.

Wonderful location

We loved this hotel. It was clean and everything we needed was here. Excellent laundry service delivered to our room. Freshly prepared food in the restaurant. Just slow preparation of food but it was all fresh and delicious. Room was clean and fresh everyday. Just a a ten minute walk to the island for more restaurants and shopping or take one of the bike taxes for a dollar.

Unfortunately, the Peten Espléndido lost the good service and care showed in the last years. The facility looks deteriorated and lacks maintenance. Surely enough its easy to find a better hotels in the area for the same rates or cheaper. But, if you want to be close to the shopping areas or look for a nice view in front of the lake, this hotel complies with those conditions.

Good Spot for Flores/Tikal

If you are hoping to see Tikal this is a decent spot. I highly recommend seeing Yaxha too. The hotel is safe & comfortable, but a little on the high side since it is in such a tourist heavy location. They can set up tours for you, but you will get more options for less money if you cross the bridge to Flores and visit an agency direct.

Hotel to fair to good but there's not really a great hotel in the Flores/Sana Elena area that is in a convenient location. I think this hotel is probably your best bet. Very nice view of Flores & the hotel pool from my hotel balcony. Food in restaurant was good. Service was good. Waiters in the restaurant do not speak English. My husband speaks Spanish so we were all right. Room was a bit on the small size but it was acceptable. What bothered me the most was not having any counter space in the bathroom on either side of the sink. There was a shelf in the bathroom but it was above the toilet. The towels are on the low end (think Motel 6 type towels). Location was good. Would have preferred to be in Flores but this hotel's location is the enxt best thing. Plenty of taxis are available nearby. Also there is a small mall across from the hotel that includes a bank with ATM. Hotel will pick you up at the airport for free. They even stopped at an ATM for us on the way from the airport to the hotel.

Stay there for 4 days. The hotel facility was at best average but functional. The room had a good view of the lake. The best thing about the hotel was their staff. There are not that many good hotel close to Kitah and I would recommend this hotel for lack of better one the area.

I enjoyed my stay at Hotel Esplendido.
Staff is very friendly.
Not all of staff members know english but some of the staff do so there was not problem communicating with them.
Everyone has been saying to me that Guatemala is a dangerous place.. In this hotel I feelt safe, because they have Guardsguarding the door outside the hotel.
I had a friend comming visit me at the hotel and that was really not a problem. Staff knew when to keep distance and when to stay at service.. In general.. I liked it!

Overpriced and disappointing..............

Overall the hotel is not what we expected. It was ok at best but the main issue is that for the cost of what we paid it is way overpriced. There are other hotels across the causeway in Flores 5 minutes away that are the same quality at minimum 50% less per night. Overall this hotel was just way overpriced for what it was and the surrounding competition.

The hotel was extremely dirty. The room was not clean, and the public areas were not kept up at all. The pool has rust stains on the bottom, there is a gravel side lot that is unkept where you have to park your car, and the views from the room are unsightly. In addition the service was very unhelpful.

My wife and I stayed here as a base for our stay in Flores and day-trip to Tikal. It was a large, clean hotel. Nice breakfast. When we went it was fairly empty (my wife and I joked with each other that we were the only ones staying there, and all the employees were just trying to look busy when we walked by). We originally chose that hotel partly because of the pool and \"hot tub\" but the pool was pretty chilly and the hot tub was not heated at all. The hotel staff was reasonably helpful and the airport shuttle was no problem. Next time I think we'll stay on Flores island itself for a bit more ambiance.

The best place to stay.

Hotel is conveniently located close to the airport. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. It is walking distance to a travel agency, San Juan travels, who will take you to Tikal and bring you back for a reasonable price. Rooms are clean and comfortable. I would definietly go back to this hotel.

We spent our last night in Guatemala here - very clean and poished place. Nice views - friendly staff. Location-wise, you are right next to the bridge that goes over to the island of Flores, so you can easily walk over to Flores. There's also a new open-air mall across the street. 1 mile to the airport is nice, too.

We just returned from a 4-day 3-night stay on Lake Peten where we stayed at Peten Esplendido Hotel and Conference Center. We had a wonderful stay. The hotel staff are very professional, friendly and helpful. The service was excellent. The pool is real nice and the food is above average, especially the breakfast buffet. The rooms were very clean, good water pressure and the AC worked great. Easy access to Flores and the new outdoor mall right across the street. I highly recommend this hotel.
