Kettle surprise!

The hotel and its facilities were generally excellent. The staff were friendly, efficient and proactive. The pool and open area were very, very good. The inclusive breakfast was good quality and plentiful. We had only one issue….we asked for a kettle as no in-room beverage service was provided and we were very surprised to find that we had to pay 5 Euros per day for it! We have never experienced this before.

We had a fantastic stay at the Relais Bellaria Hotel. The premises, including the amazing surrounding areas, are stunning to start with. The staff did a great job before our arrival and during our stay, and they were very attentive to our needs, as we had a disabled person in our party. The room faced a green area, and the only sound we could hear was birds chirping. Definitely recommended.

Ideal location outside the city centre with excellent transport links into Bologna and beyond; we did day trips to Rimini, San Marino and Venice with this hotel as a base covering Bologna in the evening. Don’t miss the Sanctuary of the Madonna di San Luca: get the train from the main square! Staff at the hotel were superb and very helpful.

Negatives: the aircon in the rooms does not work. Though you feel it blowing out cold air, its not effective and we found it difficult to sleep as we were so got we had to use our own plug in fan. We were moved rooms two times after we found ant nests in the bathrooms. (This is common in italian establishments as they seek refuge in buildings to find water sources). The decor is basic, a tad outdated, smidhedbin waalls from previous guests, but otherwise a nice place to be. The balcony woth our room was pretty to look at, but as soon as you step on to it, you turn into a 4* meal buffet for all the bugs living out there. I spent two weeks in holiday travelling through europe and we didnt get a single bug problem or mosquito bite till coming here. The whole hotel grounds are covered in them.
Positives: The staff are fantastic. Good English, polite, patient and courteous. Special thanks to the breakfast waiting staff who offer a friendly face in the morning. Breakfast had quite a lot on offer. A mix of vegetarian, cereal, breads, cakes and meats.
The pool is nice, a little small, bar drinks and snacks available to buy. Two well maintained hot tubs (though mouldy around the edges)

Spent 2 days while touring Ferrari, Ducati and Lamborghini factories, we drove everywhere so it was very convenient for us, lots of parking available, hotel grounds are beautiful, pool is awesome, everything is clean and nicely maintained, great breakfast, friendly stuff, enjoyed our stay!

Lousy hotel !

I paid 460 Euros for one night and got a room that like all others had no air condition functioning but instead the heating was on and impossible to control. Therfor the room was suffocating. I was proposed by reception to sleep with the balcony door open (as there is no window in the room)which was unacceptable due to safety reasons.
I was told there was no menager on site to complain to and that i will be able to do it in the morning. Again in the check out process the day after he avoided me and the stuff asked me to send him an email.
In overall this hotel is not worth the money and far from deservung its 4 stars (not even a kettle in the room for which you need to pay 5 euro extra !

Checkin went well and the room was adequate.
The pool was clean and in good condition, however the food and drinks were not good.

Dinner was awful, the service was slow and poor even though there was only 5-10 tables that night. It took an age to be offered drinks and than even longer to be served them, so much so our starters arrived before the drinks.
The food was so bad, my steak had 0 flavour, 0 seasoning and was so bland.

No air con between the rooms and reception make for a very uncomfortable walk between the two

The aircon in room stopped before heading to bed, and it was gone midnight till it was sorted and we could sleep. Until then we had to use ice packs to keep cool.

Overall this was a very disappointing stay and i would not recommend to my friends

We were excited to stay in this hotel but left extremely disappointed. The room is on the small side and the beds are not that great. The bathroom is small and the shower is tiny. And speaking of the shower: something is seriously wrong with their water system, as the temperature fluctuates wildly between cool to scaldingly hot (like dangerously hot!) about every 15 seconds or so and you have to try to dodge the water in a microscopic shower. There were three of us and we all showered at different times of day and it was the same for all of us. I actually think it’s quite dangerous. Also, there is nowhere in the hotel to get any drinking water without paying for it - even the gym doesn’t have a drinking fountain or water cooler. The pool area is nice, but has some major drawbacks: the “hot” tubs are about 80° tubs, so not hot at all. And there are ants and mosquitoes everywhere. I sat outside near the pool for about a half an hour and I look like I have chicken pox now and I even got a rash from them as well. If you want to go to the pool I highly suggest you bring bug spray. The highlight of the hotel was the breakfast, which had a good variety of options and was very nice, other than the burnt espresso.

We found the hotel facilities to be excellent, with pleasant rooms, swimming pool and a very good restaurant.

However, we found the service to be lacking. Most hotel staff were helpful and polite, but some made us feel quite unwelcome.

Also the hotel seemed more interested in finding problems than solutions when we approached them for help, after our flight home had been moved to the evening and we needed somewhere for our baby to nap for an hour that afternoon.

It's unfortunate because it's an excellent hotel in many respects, but next time I think we will go back to the Savoia.

Beautiful gardens, excellent quality fresh food, very friendly and helpful staff with good English. Great location near motorway for exploring the region by car, plenty of free parking. We stayed for a week and had a great time. Rooms generally very quiet, clean, comfortable and in good condition. Only negative is the variable temperature on the showers and unfortunately the pool was closed.

In general everything was clean and in order, the breakfast served was of a good quality and we were able to get in and out of Bologna centre with ease either driving or by bus.
Above all though the staff were beyond reproach.
I would most definitely stay there again.

We have been to this hotel twice now and both stays were great. The hotel is a little outside the centre of town but we like this as we can leave the hustle and bustle behind and relax around the pool. A bus stop is a couple of 100 metres away and is regular into town. The only issue is that it only runs till about 2100hrs. This however caused us to seek out the local restaurants which were excellent. We love the intimate feel of this hotel and will be back

OK, it’s fair to start and say the gardens and the outside of the hotel are beautiful and the staff try incredibly hard (very helpful, quick to respond and resolve issues.) is also like to say the breakfast is great. But here are the issues
1) it’s really not conveniently located, getting to central Bologna is two bus journeys / a 40 minute trip each way
2) you’re limited on where you can eat. The hotel restaurant doesn’t have a great choice of food (if you don’t eat meat / seafood it’s not good at all) there are two restaurants within walking distance which are nice
3) the outside is gorgeous but the rooms are not four star, bed was uncomfortable; only one very flat pillow (granted when I asked for another one it was provided) the room was noisey, the decor is old fashioned the wallpaper was peeling the sink was damaged, the show either scolded or was freezing cold.
4) the outside around the pool is just a feed ground for bugs. Masses of wasps, mosquitos and midgeys. We each had bites in double figures and on the last day didn’t leave the room as a result
5) the inability to pay on card at the pool bar is a major inconvenience as is the timings the lunch is available from being so limited.

Overall, I wouldn’t return.

Pool was lovely but there was a lot of little things which were very irritating. Having to stop at reception and ask for a wrist band each day which had to be worn at all times at the pool (also annoying for tan lines!), you had to wait for staff to show you to sun loungers and needed to be reserved rather than just being able to help yourself, food by the pool was very limited serving times and usually waiting a while to be served even when there was a lot of staff floating about. Both jacuzzis were out of use for part of our stay.

this is not a 4 * neither 3 * hotel. The beds are small and not comfortable, the hot water flow in the showers in terrible, and the service in the breakfast room - not welcoming at all.I
I asked for an Iron - due to safety reasons they don't allow them in the rooms (that's OK), but they also don't have Ironing room so the only solution was that they will charge me 8 Euro (!!!) for ironing 1 shirt. amazing...

Nice premises with palm trees decorating the area which are not indigenous to the area. It was misleading that there are pictures of a pool as the pool is apparently only open specific months. We were there mid May and the pool was closed. The AC for the hotel in both the rooms didn't work so it got a bit hot and stuffy in the rooms. The breakfast was included and pretty good. The hotel restaurant is very expensive. Although the food is good, you are looking at 50€ a person if you dine there. Fortunately the town itself is a half hour walk north so theres a number of options

Disappointing because most restaurants were closed so you would think because of the lack of options outside of the hotel there would be ones at the hotel.

We chose the Relais Bellaria as it met three basic criteria - parking, air conditioning and a pool. It met these criteria although the rest of the hotel didn’t do anything more to earn additional stars. On arrival our room (232) was the furthest you could be from reception, dining room and the pool.
This room is designed for disabled people. Not a problem for us although I would question the bathroom layout. A contortionist would have trouble accessing toilet tissue, let alone someone with a disability. There is no shelving in the bathroom except for a tiny shelf with two plastic cups on it.
Access to our room involves a smart key. They don’t work on the first time and you have to push them in and out several times before eventually you can gain access.
Pool towels cost 2 euros each; they charge for water - no complimentary bottle unlike elsewhere; given the cost of the room, these charges seems miserly.
Clearing up my table around me at breakfast because it was 10am was needlessly passive-aggressive. There were other tasks they could have done while I finished up. This rudeness was compounded on check out when the receptionist continually interrupted me while I was pointing out these issues.

Check in was terrible with the hotel not having our booking, then finding it but claiming it was not for the days we wanted. After a long time they stated it was ok, how is this? Water pressure was a joke, it was like a camping shower. Useless!

Great First Impression!

When first driving in I was very proud of myself for being smart enough to choose this hotel. Once in the lobby I knew I had made the right decision. Then came the room.

Located at the end of a hall that took five minutes to traverse.
Clean, yes, but the lighting! You couldn’t read, too dark and what lights there were faced you in a most uncomfortable way, extremely poorly thought out.

The WiFi connection was next to non existent.

BUT the staff were so good and courteous you didn’t want to pursue complaints too far. They after all didn’t design the room.

Stunning setting

The hotel is set in beautiful surroundings with a really lovely pool and jacuzzi tubs. The staff are really attentive and nothing is too much trouble. The pool bar serves delicious snacks and the restaurant food is excellent quality (although the menu is fairly limited). Definitely stay for breakfast - a great choice. The rooms are a good size with extremely comfortable beds. The fridge and safe were useful and the complimentary toiletries smelt delicious. The option to have tea and coffee in the room was a welcome addition for a small cost. The hotel is situated out of town but there is a local bus that takes you to town in 15 minutes or the station (it goes around the houses) in about 30 mins - although the hotel arranged taxis too. A car would have been useful. If you visit, definitely visit the pizzeria at the end of the drive.

It's a conference centre so it lacks the character and charm of a family run or holiday focused hotel except that the pool area is lovely for everyone. It's lush green lots of comfortable sun beds, delightful staff. Recommend it highly for a short stay.

The hotel is ideal for those traveling by car. There is a bus station nearby but last bus is 08:00 PM so we didn't consider to use that alternative. Our room has a balcony facing the pool which made our stay very pleasant during our six nights stay, as my wife could smoke without leaving the premises. Good restaurant at the hotel and good restaurant at walking distance too. By car to the city center was only ten minutes.

Fine if you're just passing through

We had an OK stay here whilst stopping off at Bologna from Tuscany, en route to Lake Garda. The hotel is pleasant enough with good amenities and all the staff were great. It's also straight forward to get to by car with ample parking. It just feels a bit like a big conference centre. Bologna centre is 25 mins by bus which wasn't a problem for us, but they stop around 8pm so you'll need a taxi back if staying in Bologna later for a meal and drinks. The hotel restaurant and bar was also shut on Sunday which further limits options. It was also frustrating that you have to book a time slot to use the pool, and wear a swimming cap!

Overall the hotel is fine for a short stop off, but I think I'd struggle with more than a couple of nights here.

Lovely hotel with fantastic pool.

The hotel is 6km from the historic centre of Bologna. The city is easily accessible by bus and taxi although this adds time and expense, so this is the reason I didn't give 5* overall. It was well worth staying here for the swimming pool and peaceful surroundings. All the staff were friendly and helpful too.

Hotel set in great location outside Bologna city center in the Hills with great friendly staff and super swimming and sunbathing area with parasols and free sunbeds! Rooms comfy and size great with big bathroom and clean sheets and towels every day of our 7 night stay,also try the Friday night BBQ as a great culinary experience and not the usual BBQ one would attend,set outside by the pool and very romantic ambiance as the sun sets with live music in the back round.

The hotel is in a nice and peaceful surrounding, just in the middle of a park. Its outside Bologna but if you have a car it is only 15 mins away. The staff at reception are friendly and professional. Breakfast was very disappointing, not much fresh products and shop bought cakes and pastries of no good quality, the eggs were quite artificial and service to match. Wifi connection wasn't great.
We didn't enjoy the swimming pool rules, having to book a time in the morning for the pool and accessing within 30mins (when you are on holiday the last thing you want to have is a timetable). One morning a friend came to visit from Rome, after lunch we decide to have a drink at the hotel's pool. We were told that she had to pay €20 (the afternoon charge), bearing in mind we explained that we were only going to be at the pool for a couple of hours as my friend had a train to catch. We were not allowed to use the beds without paying even if we were buying a drink. So we sat at a table overlooking an empty swimming pool not one bed taken, only a gentleman on the table next to us. Quite ridiculous!
The hotel sent us a questionnaire and after filling it in, they promised to contact us for some feedback but they never did.
Unfortunately overall not a 4 star hotel, good potential but not quite there yet.

The superior room was comfy with a nice balcony although water pressure meant showers were a challenge, with the only bar part of the restaurant drinks were consumed in the reception area near the entrance! Jazz night and comedy night 2 nights of our 3 night stay meant dinning elsewhere but nice restaurants near by. And the pool area not in use during our stay.

nice and clean but you need a car

3rd time we have stayed for fair and it takes about 15min to drive but nice and clean hotel. service is good and free parking.

Nice hotel away from city center

The room was comfortable and clean. The hotel is fairly out of the way, although there is a bus that takes you there from the city center/railway station (36). I wish there were stores nearby, but there is basically just a hospital around. Maria at the front desk was kind, professional, and helpful. I appreciated her assistance.

Nice hotel

Nice hotel with friendly staff. Good, clean rooms. Lovely breakfast. Grounds look amazing in photos with hot tubs etc. and we booked it on this basis. However the pool and hot tubs are closed for the winter months (even though the weather is still beautiful in October) so we were disappointed. Location is not great. We were charged €20 for a taxi ride into the city center. We could not get wi-fi to work consistently. We would stay here again (in the summer).

Very nice place

Out if town - you will need a car but nice hotel with good grounds. I had a large room with south facing balcony. Good choice of dinner and breakfast menus and staff very helpful. Did not use the pool. Enclosed courtyard and terrace as well as gardens.
Would stay here again

Don't stay here

This hotel was selected on our trip so we could have a little pool time and relax. Apparently if you aren't a wedding party or conference guest, you may as well be chopped liver! Every night the dinner was booked for parties and conferences and there was only one restaurant within walking distance (thankfully a decent one). Would not recommend unless you enjoy the feeling of being stuck somewhere that doesn't care if you should be fed or not! Also, the rooms were poorly soundproofed so good luck getting a good night's sleep.

I stayed here on a business trip but had to spend a whole day alone in hotel as meeting was following day. The outdoor area was great to work in and much more nicer than sitting in the room/ lobby working. Staff were also very friendly and helpful and breakfast great! Will definitely recommend and stay again.

This was a nice, spacious room with a great bathroom and shower. It over looks a park and the birds are a lovely delight. Breakfast was fantastic with gluten- free options as well as all the regular breakfast buffet.

Business hotel also good for holiday base

We stayed here Sep 2012, we used as base to see surounding areas and also a day trip to venice. Mainly a conference business hotel, fairly modern with aircon etc. Some rooms have terrace whic looked niice. You need a car as it is out of the centre of town. but is surrounded by nice countyside and only a few minutes drive to the centre. Breakfast was good but could do with one or two more staff. WIFI was patchy in our room (190) which was a bit frustrating but at least it is free. Staff were all very friendly / helpful. Would staff again.

Run Down and Dirty

This hotel is a bit dirty and run down. My room had a carpet that was water damaged and I could hardly open my door as a result. The bathroom was filthy and there was hair every where.

The reservation came with a coupon for 50% off of a dinner at the hotel restaurant. I booked two rooms and should have gotten two discounts. I took six business associates to dinner at the hotel restaurant. When I went to use the coupon, the hotel insisted that it was not theirs and would not honor it.

Hotels.com did check on it when I returned and confirmed that this was an offer made by the hotel. They generously refunded a large portion of the cost of the dinner. For the record, it happened to be the worse meal I have ever eaten in Italy. That in itself is hard to do. The only thing worse than the food was the service. I highly recommend staying away from this hotel and its sad restaurant.

Modern, clean and airy hotel with helpful staff although they are difficult to find when the hotel is busy, especially in the bar/restaurant area. Great outside areas to sit and talk or enjoy the outdoors.

Good value but a little far out

A trip to Bologna in early October is well worth the visit as the city celebrate their patron Saint (Petronius) on October 4th. Concerts, fireworks, pageants and processions are very much the order of the day and the locals are out in force to celebrate, creating a fabulous atmosphere.

The Relais Bellaria is a beautiful spot to relax in itself set just aside of the Bellaria hospital. A taxi ride from the airport costs around EUR25 and a taxi into the city around EUR15. There is good bus service (no. 90) to/ from Piazza Cavour which takes around 15 minutes and tickets can be bought on the bus fro EUR1.50. The snag is that the buses run until just before 9 p.m. so dinner in the city has a EUR15 supplement!

The hotel lobby is very bright and welcoming as are the staff who are courteous, patient and friendly. Bar and restaurant available at entrance to hotel. We ate at the restaurant twice and found the food to be good quality and prices reasonable.

The room itself was a twin room on the first floor. We had a few difficulties with the in room safe. Staff were most efficient in dealing with these issues.

All in all, a good experience. A little far from the city, but a good and comfortable hotel.

Nice hotel in a quiet green area with good service and nice rooms with nice balcony!.

This is a nice and modern hotel in a quiet area and very convenient to get to the city centre which was about 5 miles away. The only thing which was missing in this hotel was a SPA ! I would have gone back for a leisure stay in this hotel if they had SPA facilities. The location was ideal for a SPA hotel !
