Ok for the price. Edmílson was a very good receptionist. Could hear some street noise from the 15th floor. AC was also noisy. Small TV. Big room. Nice shower. Breakfast was basic but nice. Good higiene due to the pandemic. I would stay there again.

I expected better

Hotel is overrated as \"outstanding.\" Aside from some needed construction to upgrade the WiFi which we can overlook, the details were underwhelming. Room was good and service good enough, but bathroom was tiny, breakfast sausages were actually hotdogs, there was no a/c in the hallways, TV was tiny, channels had horrible reception, pool was between a daycare with screaming kids and the street with people peering in, etc. I expected better. \"Good\" at best.

Really very poor and very slow Wi-Fi combined with very slow to come warm water for the shower and very tiny shower cubicle with very awkward access, not to mention slow elevators, of which one was broken leaving just one working for 15 floors. This all means that I won't come back. I'll stick to their other hotel, The Promenade Paradiso.

A week at the Promenade Barra First Hotel

There are several things I did not like about the hotel:

1. The internet in the room was extremely slow - nearly impossible to communicate with friends or relatives over Skype or FaceTime Voice or WhatsApp voice (forget about video chat).
2. There was no iron and ironing board in the room.
3. The swimming pool was not nice at all - it was quite small and the water was dirty. It was also impossible to get lounge chairs because there were so few.
4. The breakfast was not great.

Overall this hotel was very good. If you're looking to just be secluded or hit up the beaches in Barra de Tijuca, however not too much around. And wifi in the hotel is pretty spotty. Depending on your room location the wifi went in and out for a majority of our stay.

An excellent hotel.

This is an excellent hotel for its price range. Very comfortable and the staff was always helpful. We stayed for seven nights and our room was always made up quickly and well first thing in the morning. The only drawback is that it is fairly far from most of the main attractions of Rio.

i guess the only reason to stay here is to be close to the convention center ? but its not as close as i thought , nothing is and if you stay at the convention center this nothing else around there to do. i recommend staying father away near barra grill , look like a much more walking around area and the extra time and taxi fare will be worth having places you can walk to

Not fancy, but a solid hotel.

I stayed for 7 days on business. It worked out well for that. Breakfast was very good, much better than anything you see in the US. The staff didn't speak much English but that is to be expected. Their limited English and my limited Portuguese worked out ok. The room was nice other than a small issue with flies in the bathroom a few days into my stay.

It is too far from Copacabana if you wan to do touristy things, about 30 minutes by cab with little traffic. Otherwise there are plenty of malls and different restaurants to try. A trip to the local beach is only a few minutes and not as busy as Copa. If I am back in Barra, there is a good chance I will stay here.

In a personal emergency , I had to book a hotel, expedia rating was reasonable, all that is was promised was delivered, it was a good solution for a couple of days, is out of te way of Rio Beaches but you can easily access them in a car or taxi

NICE HOTEL. NOT PERFECT BUT NICE.

I came to attend the CILAD (Ibero Latin American Dermatology Congress. I arrive one day earlier, on Friday, 11/14/14, but the event started 11/15/14. Since that day was a holiday in Brazil, all banks and exchange places were closed. So, I tried to change dollars at the hotel and they had no money. I am a well traveled person and NEVER had I experienced a situation like this. There I was, with no Brazilian money and the hotel was not helping. Friday, they said, at 4PM, will change, but when I went, they said, at 6 PM. Unfortunately, I had to leave before to attend the opening ceremony so when I returned, the same story, \"we have no money, come tomorrow at 7 AM and we will change it\". They did it but in the meantime I was borrowing from colleagues. Having such a big event, the hotel and a holiday coming, it was lack of vision of the hotel, not to have money available for the exchange. I hope this situation is corrected and no other traveler suffer this inconvenience.

Breakfast was plenty and delicious, transportation easy, the personnel was very compliant and nice to talk to. Neighborhood is great and the Barra Shopping Center was easy to access by bus.

WI-FI is Terrible

Checked in and they were very nice. Did everything to make me comfortable. The view from the room was good, I don't really care about the Ocean anyway. The room is very nice, the food is OK but there are so many good places to eat close by that make up for the food in the hotel.

Do not even think you will get anything done via the net. The Internet is just downright slow. I called the front desk but the person used the response No English.

I even tried at 2 AM and it was better but not good enough to do real work.

Since it is right in front of Av. das Americas, traffic noise can be particularly loud during the day and eventually by night. Location is OK to get to Barra sites but driving towards Copacabana and Downtown can take about 1.5 hours.

Not nearly as nice as the pictures suggest

Both the Expedia website and the Promenade website present the picture of a high end, first class hotel. Unfortunately, the Promenade Barra First was a bit of a disappointment. Primarily, the building and the rooms just haven't been maintained all that well. It's fine as generic business hotels go - definitely not a \"dive\" by any means. You just need to go in with the right expectations.

comfy hotel clean good air-con nice wood features, not fussy clean some English TV stations, very good breakfast, super fruit selection, needed more meat and cheese and boiled eggs, but otherwise good where the staff were more friendly and helpful in general. the lazy river pool is a plus, especially for kids and a big gym. minuses, miles from anywhere, complicated to get to by bus long journey into town on any day. The hotel is on a very busy noisy road you have to be tough resisting noise here!
After 3 days I learnt my way and found paradise.

Great business hotel close to Barra Shopping

Reasonably priced ( for Rio) hotel with average breakfast and a large comfortable room very close to major shopping and business centers in the Barra region. Easy trip to International Airport via the Linha Amarelo expressway with buses available to both airports and downtown from the nearby Alvorado terminal. Quick taxi ride to safe and beautiful Barra beach with numerous good restaurants. Free breakfast and \"fast\" wireless internet!

UNSAT. No Fitness Center available during my stay

It was a bit disappointing because it was advertised that there would be a Fitness Center available during my stay and when I made the reservation; however, when I arrived the Fitness Center was closed. This was a misleading event that should have never occurred and the hotel management should have announced so that customers like I that made a reservation based on this feature would not be lied to.

Overall a good hotel. The hotel location is in a good area but kinda far from most of the attractions. Very clean hotel, restaurant has good food. Only disappointing thing was the breakfast buffet, it was free but most of the times you get what you pay for.

This hotel is not ideal for those who are visiting Rio for business or leisure as it is in the Barra district ...far away from everything. Even the Taxi driver had issues find the place and he took us to two different locations before getting to the correct hotel. Also very far from the Rio International Airport. No restaurants nearby as well.

Business trip - Hotel is OK for a very short stay

Went there on a business trip. The hotel location was convenient to us, because our customers' offices were in Barra. However, I would not recommend this location for anyone who is going on vacation, as it is very far from all the action (beaches, restaurants, bars, sightseeing).
The room was alright. Carpet had big stains, though, and the shower and bathroom in general were not inviting, if you know what I mean.
The breakfast buffet and lunch menu were good.
I had a problem with the Internet access, but it was solved by technical support.

Really a good place!!!

A nice stay!!!... Quiet & peaceful place to rest; Good swimming pool; Great transport to beach in golf-type car + boat + 2-min walking. Wonderful beach at ¨Barra da Tijuca¨ District and beautiful sorrounding areas. Malls at 5 min by walking. Lot of public transport if you want to go somewhere else (Ipanema, Copacabana, Downtown,...).

Decent hotel BUT terrible service

The hotel itself isn't too bad. Our room was clean, had a nice view of the nearby hotels and the pool, and was a good size for two people. The lobby was clean, modern and provided free wifi. Breakfast was actually quite good as it had a larger selection than other hotels I visited during my 9-day trip. HOWEVER, the service was poor. Most of the staff were cordial at best, not welcoming or friendly; the most friendly and helpful person was the bell hop. Our room keys de-magnetized about 5-6 times (we only stayed one night!) and repeatedly had to go down to the front desk to fix it. It was incredibly inconvenient. The worst thing was that we called the hotel on our way back from Copacabana on New Years Eve asking for help in calling for a taxi as the bus we took to Barra da Tijuca stopped 2 mi away from the hotel. The guy we spoke to said he couldn't do anything to help us and could care less when I told him that we were two females alone, worried about our safety. Luckily a taxi eventually came.

Good with some annoying aspects.

A good hotel let down by some aspects.
The 2 rooms were spacious for our family of 4 and next to each other.
Disappointed with no kettle and tea / coffee making facilities in the room, hence the 3 rating.
The staff spoke English and were pleasant and helpful. However, the desk said there was no internet but I managed to find the hotel's service.
For those on high floors, as we were, the lifts caused delays.
The restaurant had a good selection for the inclusive breakfast
The pool is good for kids and the gym is very well equipped.
The ride to the lake and boat the other side and the beach is good. The beach is visually fantastic and excellent sand, as with many beaches along the coast but dangerous with many no swimming signs.
We got from the international airport and back to it in just over half an hour, but this was late evening.

Can not be recommended

The hotel is located far away from Rio next to a very busy road and cater mostly for Portugise flight personel. They understand very little English and the are not geared for tourist. A 3 start hotel at best.
You need a car or taxi to get around and the only place you can walk to for restaurants, cash etc is the shopping centre (Rio Design).
We paid a small fortune for our stay because of the date close to New Year and it was absolutely not worth it.

This was my thrid visit to this hotel. All rooms have a nice view (including the bathrooms), the food is reasonable, and the breakfast (included in the rate) is good and well served. The hotel staff is very helpful and strives to assist the guest's needs. However, the hotel has structure problems, probably due to poor maintenance, which is a problem with the all country. Brazilians are known for not maintaining anything, until it is complete deteriorated or broken. The phone in the first room did not work; I was transferred to another room promptly. This second room had ant infestation in the bathroom - by this time I was too tired to request another room change.

Barra First - business trip

I have stayed here 2 times now. The first time I had a room that wasn't in such good condition (3rd or 4th floor). This time the room (13th floor) was a lot nicer although the furniture is a bit 'tired'. The location the first time was great as most of my business was in the Barra area, however this time I needed to get to the Ipanema/copacabana area and beyond regularly and that meant a 40 to 50 mins taxi ride costing approx. 60 Rias each time, so really no so very convenient. I also found that when returning from the Ipanema area the taxi drivers had difficulty finding the hotel, so a good tip is to make sure that you have the full address not just the name of the hotel.

Promenade Barra First - Good general purpose hotel

Stayed at the Promenade Barra First on a recent business trip. The front desk staff were friendly spoke English well (very helpful). The room was spacious, well-kept, and very clean. The shower stall was a little small but other than that, perfectly fine.

The breakfast that came with the room was good and offered a reasonable variety of foods. It was not a full buffet-style, over-the-top breakfast, but very ample and adequate..

The only problem for a business traveler is that the internet speed is very slow. At times, it seemed to be running at sub-dial-up speeds and was occasionally actually not functional for normal electronic communication.

Other than the slow internet speed, the hotel was very pleasant and comfortable.

Personally, I loved the swimming pool

Breakfast was quite good, with all you could want or eat. Room was quiet, clean, and everything was in good shape. The swimming pool was my favorite though, since it is NOT your normal round or other common shaped pool. It was more like a swimming \"path\" that you could swim around it like you would a river perhaps. I didn't experience it, but the pool had the ability to pump water around this \"path\" and you could \"ride\" it like a river while floating on a raft.

Limpieza bien aunque el servicio de habitacion no tan bueno ( nos quedamos varios dias y yo tuve que pedirles cambio de sabanas y mas toallas) El restaurant del hotel nada bueno. Desayuno pobrisimo. Fea ambientación.Café varias veces quemado. Huevos revuelos feos, e incluso me encontré cascaras de huevo. Jugos horribles, diluidos, sosos, intomables. No tenían lecha caliente para el café. Para comer imposible. Fuimos una noche y nos dieron una picaña que no se podia cortar. Sin mantel, ni mantelito. Muy, muy medio pelo.

O hotel é muito bonito e bem cuidado. O quarto é extremamente espaçoso e confortável, embora um ponto negativo seja a televisão: é antiga, não é smart e não possui TV a cabo.
A piscina é excelente, porém o horário reduzido (das 8h às 19h) dificulta aproveitar o dia de praia e ainda retornar para utilizá-la. Poderiam estender este horário de funcionamento.

O transporte para a Praia da Reserva é ótimo.

Já a localização, na Barra da Tijuca, é tranquila e rodeada por shoppings, mas tudo fica distante para ir a pé, exigindo o uso de carros de aplicativo.

Um ponto positivo é que um ônibus passa em frente ao hotel, facilitando o acesso a Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon e outras áreas turísticas para quem não estiver de carro e não queira usar carros de aplicativo.

O atendimento é muito bom. Tem uma recepcionista super simpática que indicou barzinhos para a gente.

Quanto ao café da manhã, infelizmente deixou a desejar. Pelo valor pago, eu esperava maior variedade e qualidade. Em alguns dias, os pães estavam duros, os bolos secos, o gelo derretido e havia menos opções do que o habitual em hotéis de grande porte.

Equipe ótima, educada. Já o hotel está em total decadência!!! Fui colocada em uma suite com cheiro de mofo insuportável e o split deve ser da \"idade da pedra\". Fui até a recepção, a qual me atendeu muito bem e fizeram a troca de quarto, onde tudo funcionava a contento. A suite que minha filha ocupou estava tb em estado deplorável e fizeram a substituição por outra razoável. O café da manhã sofrível e tinham varias moscas \"convidadas\". Enfim foi uma experiência muito ruim.

Recepção ótima, quarto muito bom, equipe de limpeza e recepção bem atenciosos.

O que precisa melhorar muito é o serviço de restaurante do local prestador responsavel pelo restaurante precisa melhorar muito o atendimento, reposição dos alimentos na rampa, faltou por dois dias reposição de alimentos, equipe de atendimento dos pedidos de refeição precisa receber treinamento e ter pessoas coordenando as atividades, refeição pedida foi totalmente entregue diferente e de péssima qualidade, alimento queimado, duro, ressecado, não sendo nem possivel realizar a refeição no local, precisando ir em um restaurante fora do hotel. Administradora do restaurante que iniciou os serviços as 07h00 da manhã chegou depois das 09h30, porém já faltava muitos itens no café da manhã, pão do dia anterior, faltava talheres, pratos, guardanapo, etc... parecia mais com o programa do pesadelo na cozinha, precisa melhorar muito pra ficar razoável pra bom.

Atendimento péssimo. Café da manhã caro e muito ruim. Solicitei água quente para colocar na minha garrafa térmica, tinha que pagar. Pedi um conjunto de talheres emprestado, tinha que pagar. Se oferecessem um café da manhã há altura do valor cobrado seria bom. Mas infelizmente o serviço e o que oferecem é muito insatisfatório
