The cleanliness was not proper. Taps were leaking. Floors (Bathroom and Room) were sticky and dirty. Towels were wornout. Linen was average. Room was very small for 2.

Will definitely not stay here next time.

Opt for a 2 star hotel

Was located in a prime area, but the streets are too messy. Breakfast is good but remaining items from menu are of not great taste. Check-in and checkout is easy, opt for a 2 star hotel.

One of many budget hotels in the area just to the north of New Delhi railway station & the metro. Handy for airport line & yellow line. Area is extremely busy during the day & evening. Walkable from the station, although by tuk tuk from the metro, because of the road layout, you have to go a long way round. Room was clean & reasonably large.

Not treated correctly, will not stay here again!

Have stayed at this property for many years, usually several times a year fro several nights each time. The place is pretty simple but is clean and a good value. Close to all Delhi sight seeing. Area is safe though congested and often loud, even at night. Don't let this detract you from staying here for these reasons though.

Have decided that this will be my last visit to the hotel despite the years of service it has given me. My decision came instantly when I was severely overcharged for a taxi to the airport before hours and essentially had no choice but to accept the price. If they are more than willing to rip off a customer who has been visiting for many years and given a lot of business, I am better off being in a newer facility with similar cost as there are many others from which to choose.

Average hotel with good access to Delhi station

Clean room with decent bed. Bathroom was a large wet room which is fairly standard in India but still a nuisance. Room service was very good and all food and drink was tasty and well presented, as was breakfast.

Downside was constant noise from reception and room service telephones situated on each floor.

Showing some age but staff is still great!

Have stayed at this hotel over the years and reviewed it too. But after staying at another nearby property for a few nights, I may have to rethink staying here and longer.Problem is, Have grown attached to some of the staff and the neighborhood as well. My gripe - the rooms are showing age and are in need of remodeling. The rooms are still tidy, complimentary breakfast is a nice touch to and over the years the price, in my opinion, is reasonable.What to do?

Renovations in room - new decor, linens, paint, etc made for a nice surprise at this budget property. I have come to count on this hotel for great, personal service but the upgrades are appreciated. Fast free WiFi, basic amenities, hot running water at all times I used it, frigid A/C, clean comfortable room in a central location.

Less than average hotel in New Delhi

The hotel is located in a crowded locality near New Delhi Railway Station. The road is narrow and the traffic is a mess. People throw trash everywhere and cleanliness of the neighborhood is very poor. The hotel reception area is not bad but the room I was given was not clean, mattress, bed sheets and towels were not good. You would need to carry your own sheets and towels for sure. You would need to walk to another hotel on a small lane to get your complementary breakfast.

Always seem to return here

They know me by name - I stay here approx every 2 to 3 months. It has become a home away from home. Clean, comfortable, basic. Could be nicer but has the standard services needed and everything is nearby including sights and adjoining neighborhoods and shopping such as bazaars and Karol Bagh, etc. My rate included complimentary breakfast which was fine. A/C was frigid and with ceiling fan on would create a blizzard if one desired, great in summer. Hot water plentiful. Complimentary paper daily. Used laundry service with excellent result. Very pleased overall. Will continue to stay here. Only issue is with travel desk which will quote different taxi rates than front desk. Both over priced in my opinion and one would do best to find alternate transportation if at all possible.

Avoid this place at all cost. It's a scam. The room they showed me was not even completely renovated. No paint on the wall. I have seen cleaner furniture thrown on street. Absolutely pathetic. I was told there are over 5000 similar hotels in this area of New Delhi and most of them are scams likes this one. Staff kept making noise throughout the night. I think the bed sheets and comforter were never washed. Very dirty. Breakfast was included but I had to walk to another hotel to have my breakfast. Location is horrible. Was not at all safe for women. Extremely dirty. Very lazy and dirty staff.

Hotel OK for short stay

We stayed two nights at the hotel. The room was relatively clean and comfortable and the heating worked, which was great as it was quite cold outside. The hotel manager was very keen on helping us with booking of trips to further destinations in India and he seemed to be upset, even impolite when he got to know that we decided to book with another agency. Otherwise the hotel was quite good value for the money.

It's ok, but would pick a different one next time

The hotel was good enough for India, but the service wasn't good. The front desk didn't give us a good suggestion on the tour and what to do. They gave us only one option: a tour with them that was very expensive. Our room was next to the elevator, so it was very noisy. The guy that showed us the room (which we didn't ask for!) insisted a tip and wasn't happy with what we gave him. The hotel needs more English speaking personnel.

Its a nice enough place to stay, some of the staff were excellent and very helpful, whilst the location is very convenient to the New Delhi train station its not the most salubrious of neighbourhoods. The only major issue I had was when I tried to book a taxi to the airport. The travel desk tried charging me R700, one hundred of which he put in a draw saying it was for the use of the computer which I'd been offered free use of to check in for my flight. I got it back when I told him that was unfair and then ordered a taxi myself which charged only R400. This is a shame as most of the other members of staff were very good.

It was ok

The hotel is ok but the staff are not good. Wanted to charge me 17.45% for using a credit card luxury tax and when i said i wasnt paying it was just dropped. I also had a problem getting a taxi to the airport after that 600 INR when they collected me it was 180 INR. I got a taxi to to the airport for 350 INR from down the road. I was not left put this charge on the card as i think myself (somebody wanted a few ruppes for them selfs.

Something still missing

Visited Chanchal Continental in August 2012. The room was not cleaned once in the period of stay (3 days). It was okay for us but as they consider themselves as a hotel and not a lodge/guest house, we think they should clean in. The wifi server did not work on our floor and they were not able to fix it even though they tried. The included breakfast is served at a nearby hotel which is okay and nicely air conditioned. At the time of departure they tried charging 600 RS for the taxi to airport service which is almost twice the price of the prepaid server the other way (320 RS). The room was nicely air conditioned so we had some great time in Delhi!

Old friends wrinkle too!

Have stayed at this hotel many, many times over the past couple of years. Has gone from a crisp, clean and comfortable budget showcase to an old friend that is showing some wear. The staff and familiarity is what brings me back. The rooms are exceptionally clean, but the linen needs to be updated and/or freshened. White can only get so dingy before it needs to be changed. This, the throw pillows were tucked in the closet without their coverings, presumably they were being cleaned? Did get a brand new bath towel to use - the purchase tag hadn't even been removed. So, question is - is it simply time for a new \"dig\" or a little \"mental botox\" - that is, find a new place to call home on the road or stick with what is familiar and had been comfortable? One added plus for the area - WiFi speed was very good at this hotel compared to others I stayed in close by. Room service was excellent in all regards. No pushy travel desk either - there if you need them, not a hassle if you don't.

Another excellent stay

I use this hotel each time I need to stay in Delhi for a few days in the Pahar Ganj area.Rooms are consistently clean, staff attentive and helpful, location near Connaught Place and other attractions. An interesting alternative to the busy Karol Bagh area.

Location great. Neighbourhood - normal for Delhi

The room was excellent for the price. The service was also. Although its no Hilton, it had its own charm and comfort.
The staff were friendly and the manager very friendly and obliging.
There was breakfast, a daily paper, flat screen tv, tea and coffee facilities and a large bathroom.
Room had ceiling fans, air con and a heater for the cooler nights.

The only bad thing I have to say is the noise! You can hear everything from inside the hotel - people yelling, chairs dragging, phones ringing and even the elevator moving. Outside noise was minimal and was mostly barking dogs which the hotel has no control over.
It was fine with ear plugs!

we spent new years eve here, it was very very noisy inside and outside of the hotel. We got strangers knocking on our door twice during the night.
the location was really convenient, the room was not too bad, though the sheets weren't very clean, and the hot water wasn't very consistent. the staff were nice, and they arranged free pickup for us.

Reasonable for Delhi

Found hotel to be suitable for our short stay in Delhi. Rooms were serviced daily and staff most attentive, although this could be construed as tip-seeking. It was not a problem at all in going to sister hotel for breakfast, which was good. Thee is a delightfully pleasant outdoor eating area. Some reviewers were concerned with location, but it was no problem. Within walking distance to RR station but still only a very cheap ride in an auto rickshaw. At least it is not in thick of tourist area where touts will dog every step.

This is Delhi, either pay huge money for a major hotel or stay in Parhar ganj. The Hotel Chanchal Continental was fine and a great deal, but realize one needs to get used to Delhi. At first the neighborhood may seem rough, but after some exposure to India it will be fine. The management made every effort to make sure our stay was a good one. What more could you ask for the money.

Handy for rail travellers

The Chanchal Continental was perfectly adequate for our stay in Delhi. It was close to the New Delhi station and the Main Bazaar, and there was plenty of transport available. We had an airport pickup which went well, and did a day trip with one of the hotel drivers which was also fine (don't bother with the Iskandar Hindu sound and light show - it is miles away from the main attractions and not information, just earbashing preaching). The manager wanted to sell us a trip with car & driver around Rajasthan, but was fine when we decided against it.

Breakfast could be more exciting, and the room was serviced once in 4 nights, but was otherwise clean and well-maintained. We did have to ask for the hot water to be turned on in the evenings.

Convenience in Pahar Ganj

This is one of those properties that you probably wouldn't choose just walking by or from the lack-luster lobby for that matter. What makes it shine is the Deluxe Room and attention to detail that the staff provides at every level. Everything from hot water, A/C, to fresh, clean linen were all in good repair. Complimentary breakfast was tasty. I've stayed at this hotel before and won't hesitate to stay again on my next visit either.

Know what you're looking for...

I've stayed in this hotel before and was pleasantly surprised, so much so that I made it a point to check it out again, leaving a \"no brainer\" property 2 days before my normal check-out just to see if what I recalled was true. Well.... it was, but it took a little work and research and a firm resolve to make it happen. On the date that I checked in, the hotel had two room categories - standard and deluxe. My reservation was for a deluxe room and long story short, I was put into a substandard standard room (A/C not working properly, ceiling fan sounded as if was being ripped from ceiling as it operated). When I finally decided that enough was enough and told the front desk that I'd even pay to be put into a higher tier room, a new room mysteriously appeared, a \"Deluxe Room\", one that I had reserved in the first place. Wow! Back on track. Everything from there was top notch. It's like a previous review come to life - near perfection at a minimal price - in India - in Pahar Ganj! My advice would be to pay the bit extra for the upgrade from standard to deluxe because the room is considerably larger, much more modern, and much less worn. If you opt for the standard, make sure that everything works to your satisfaction first and that you are not afraid of small (read: tiny) spaces.

Hotel Chanchal - great location but that's it!

This hotel is just 5 minute walk from the main railway station in Dehli. The location is great for getting around but that is about the best I can say about it. The hotel staff were friendly. The rooms are very basic and not very clean. The bathroom was last decorated in the 1970's and smelled due to no ventilation. The surrounding neighbourhood is very run down but we all felt very safe walking around.

Situated in a very poor part of Delhi. OK for an overnight stop but not for a lengthy stay in Delhi. Breakfast was in a hotel 3-4 minutes walk away. No Western option other than hard boiled eggs, corn flakes with hot milk and toast. I asked for hot water to make my coffee and was given a glass of hot tap water.
Tuk tuks readily available in street to go to Connaught Place for a decent evening meal.

- The room and the bed in Deluxe was nice and (almost) clean (do the indians hostels wash their cloths after every clients?!!), but after the 1st night I've got a lot of insects bites on the arms… I think seriously it was some bed fleas…. so we asked to change room and it has been done!
- The guy of the reception tried to sell us some tourist tours
- The staff \"squats\" in rooms near client's, so it's a little bit noisy and stinky (feet..!)

One of the areas few shining stars!

I wasn't truly expecting much after a night elsewhere paying about the same but was certainly surprised. The rooms were very modern and look as if they had been made over just months before. A few complimentary items kicked it up another notch. The only thing that went \"untested\" was the air conditioner as the temperature was perfect both day and night. This is one place that could certainly double its price and still attract a following. I will use this hotel again when in the Para Ganj area.

It was situated in a section of Old Delhi that is filled with similar budget accommodations and was generally unremarkable. it's fine for it's price - just keep expectations in order. The included breakfast is at a different location around the corner, but quite decent. The hotel can also handle a lot of travel accommodations such as arranging a driver or booking a train ticket for you, with minimal cost to you.
