Beautiful room and bathroom at the front of the hotel. Had large balcony, shared with other rooms (although nobody else used it when we were there). Extremely comfortable room with efficient aircon. Food in the on-site restaurant was excellent, as was the hotel's home-grown/produced wine. Breakfast also great, with loads of choice. Staff polite and helpful. Some noise from passing trains when windows were open, but being near the station was a requirement for us, and this didn't impact our stay.

I booked this hotel mainly because it is near the station and I wanted to travel around the Ticino region by train. I wasn't expecting such a charming property that reflects the grand era of travel of a century ago. Despite its age, it has been very well upgraded and my room was very comfortable, with a balcony view of the garden and its many palm trees. The \"Parkhotel\" in the name is well merited -- the grounds are substantial and are like an oasis around the building. My stay was only for three nights and I was out and about during the day so I didn't have an opportunity to take advantage of this.

Breakfast was well organized and a wide selection was on offer. Based on the listing in Hotels.com, I was under the impression that there was no lift, but there are in fact two lifts, and these can be accessed directly from the ground level without having to climb the stairs to reach the lobby.

If I ever come back to Lugano, I would definitely stay here and I'd make time to take advantage of the \"park.\"

We did not realize that this hotel is literally 100 feet off the main train station and with working air condition, we tried to sleep with the windows open . Our bed shook all night long and not in a good way . Great location and views but no sleep

Great stay

Beautiful older hotel, renovated to today’s standards. Breakfast staff and front desk were so helpful, kind and willing to answer any questions. We were taking a train to Milan for the day so picked the hotel because of close proximity to station. Literally a 3-5 minute walk. However, we had a lake view room with balcony and the trains, of course, were very noisy at night - thank goodness for double pained windows and an air conditioner.

A pleasant surprise

I selected this hotel for its proximity to the train station as was staying for 1 night with arrival and departure on panoramic trips. Although the hotel is above the train lines, there is no steep climb like in many other locations and it is completely soundproofed with very nice views into the garden area, spacious rooms, a very nice buffet breakfast and open air pool of a good size to do laps even. You could take funicular down to the city centre/lake and back. The staff was nice and both check-in and check-out were quick. I definitely would recommend this hotel and wish I stayed longer.

Exceptional service and attention to detail.. being picky the only downside was we were offered happy hour cocktails by the pool bar waiter but had to walk down to the bar and carry them back back up to the pool on a tray.. it was like I want to take your order but you had to get it yourself.. not a problem but seemed wrongly presented..

Good location, 5 mins walk from train station. Room was spacious and comfortable with air con. Staff were generally helpful although they did not give us good directions to the airport.

There were no curtains, only some gauze, so the room was bright in the morning and it's not possible to sleep in. There are limited amenities in the room, e.g. no cups/mugs, tea, kettle, conditioner.

We have stayed here numerous times over the past 15 years as I am originally from Lugano. We received a free upgrade (as we have one other time). Front desk staff friendly and helpful, happy hour and breakfast fabulous. The only suggestion is having glasses in the room for water or drinks and Kleenex would be great.

We had a room in the main building with lake view and a balcony. It was very pleasant. The hotel grounds are extensive and beautiful. Breakfast has more choices than other places were we have stayed. Reception desk staff were nice. Martina Marcolli, the front office manage, was specially helpful. We will recommend this hotel to friends.

The hotel was one of the best I have stayed in. Very attentive staff, beautiful room with marvellous view. We stayed for 4 nights and had a very relaxing time. Plenty to do in and around Lugano. Remember to get a Ticini visitor pass which gives you FREE travel on many services, and discounts off others. Available at the hotel.

We visited the Alprosa chocolate factory at Caslano and Ponte Tresa.

The hotel has been recently completely rebuilt, and has very modern facilities in a mature surroundings. The gardens and swimming pool are first class.

A charmer

The hotel dates back to the 19th Century and one can see that it was a grand hotel in those days. There are many old photos decorating the walls.
The hotel is walking distance from the train station. Our room faced the side and back, so the noise was not bad.
The hotel is up a hill and the views are amazing.
The staff was very pleasant and helpful.
Breakfast was good and we even ate a few dinners at the hotel.
The pool is a lap pool and fantastic. Cold when you enter, but wonderful once you start to swim!
Piece de resistance....we had a Prestige Room. Wow! It was amazing. So was the bathroom.
Negative...the wasn't help to bring our luggage from the train station to the hotel.

Nice enough hotel but the decor and atmosphere felt a little bit old fashioned and having seen its best days. It's a great property on the outside but the room was uninspiring, although perfectly clean and comfortable and very spacious. Also the proximity of the train tracks made it noisy with the windows open. Still, nice pool and next to a lovely park with views of Lake Lugano.

Two nights in Lugano

Hotel was elegant and beautiful! Wonderful back yard with bar in the garden full of flowers. There is restaurant on the same property on the hill surrounded by bushes and palm trees, very nice service and food in rustic style. Location might be a problem, you need to cross train rails to get to the city center but it was not a problem for us. It was quite at night.

This hotel was completely renovated in 2007 through 2010. It sits high above the lake and the center of Lugano. The walk to the center tourist activities is about 15 to 20 min. And down hill. The return trip is not as easy. You may want to get s taxi back. The hotel offers complimentary ful buffet breakfast and happy hour a in the bar from 5 to 6 pm.

Perfect Stay

Could not have chosen a better hotel for location, comfort, amenities, restaurant and staff. Whilst it is not located downtown, it is a 3 min walk from train station. Walking downtown is only 10 min, or catch #2 bus. We decided to have dinner at hotel after long day of travel, and the food and staff were excellent. We had to stop ourselves eating there the next night - instead choosing one of the tourist cafes in square. Not at good as hotel. Our room was huge with distant views of mountains and lake glimpse. Highly recommended.

We didnt know that this hotel has such a long history. Bathroom and room have been refurbished and its new. Clean and comfortable. The hotel food is also delicious (our dinner) Its very near to the train terminal just 2 mins walk (almost next to it!) Its a good stay and highly recommended.

Elegant hotel with views to lake and mountains

We selected this hotel because of its proximity to the main railway station in Lugano (we were touring using a Swiss rail pass) and it proved an excellent choice.
Check-in was swift and straightforward, and our room - with balcony - at the front of the hotel gave views across the lake to the mountains beyond. All the facilities in the room were in good order and the free wi-fi was easy to access. Good soundproofing meant that we were not disturbed at all by traffic on the adjacent rail line.
There was a wide choice of items at breakfast, and a good range of dishes available - at sensible prices - in the restaurant. Staff were friendly and efficient.
Check-in and check-out were swift and straightforward; everything was well organised.
Our only regret was that we were only able to stay three nights.

We loved the Continental Park especially since we had a view of the lake. The room, while historic, worked great and was very comfortable. The balcony was an added bonus. After dinner in town, we had a great time at the beautiful bar with its outside seating area. It’s a very short walk to the train station but it’s a bit of a hike to the shops and restaurants by the lake. If you are in shape, its 10-15 minutes.

Stayed here because close to train station. All cobblestone walkways and stair nor ramps. Room was in need of rehab, bug on bedspread and no blackout blinds. Bed was hard. Breakfast was good variety. Don't sacrifice quality for location.
Room next to elevator. Paid for delux room ( no view nor balcony) offered upgrade to \"superior\" room(higher floor & away from elevator for higher cost). Requested a different room but none available. I checked out early.
Not a great experience.

Booked a double room superior. Room was very nice. Air tub, tv in the bathroom. Nice balcony with lake and pool views. Motorized shutters made it possible to sleep in. Very nicely decorated. Staff was top notch, especially bar tender. Loved the character of the hotel and it's close location to train station and town center.

Our room was large and comfortable , with lovely views over the Lake. (Apparently, the Annexe is to be avoided). The bed had a great Memory Foam mattress, so no backache. The shower and bath were part of the open room, separate from the sink and toilet, an odd arrangement. The staff were welcoming and friendly, without exception, from Reception to the pool attendant. The grounds are lush and very pleasant on a hot day.

This was like being in paradise. The room was gorgeous and large with a lake view. The staff was like family in the end. They are all gracious and friendly, as well as helpful. The bed was very comfortable. It is a stones throw to the train so the location is beautiful, quiet and convenient. The breakfast was wonderful. I would go back again. I kept calling it my retirement home because it was a magnificent setting in the Alps, on the Lake.

They offered a happy hours when drinks were half price but they also offer delicious nibbles that they bring to your table. You can sit outside watching the sun set looking at a marvelous garden of palm trees and flowering plants. We stayed in the room where the writer Hermann Hesse used to stay when he was spending time in Logano. The restaurant offered daily specials and all the food was delicious and first rate. It was great not to have to leave the hotel to find a good restaurant or bar. It is all there with the swimming pool and fitness room. It was like being at the Bel Air Hotel. You won't regret a stay at this hotel.

We were upgraded to a suite on the top floor with amazing views. I can honestly say we have never stayed anywhere so palacial! We also booked an evening meal which was excellent and very filling. Breakfast in comparrison let itself down a little, but was still of a good standard. We would DEFINITELY stay here again if in Lugano at any time. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and used English to help us.

Fantastic-renovated hotel, close to Lugano station

Everything about the hotel is good -- nice, clean rooms and very quite and really comfortable.
Check in was very easy and done in next to no time. I liked the fact that they did not ask for any ID -- they trust you and ask only for your Passport number that you write down in the rego form !!

Only downside is that there's no tea/coffee making in the room.
