PS. In its place i was put up at its sister hotel the Palm Grove hotel 50 metres down the road.

This hotel’s name was changed to Octagon Hotel and is no longer Hostel 1632. The staff are excellent. The manager -Gwen super responsive and is always visible and available if needed.
The rooms are average but nicely kept. WiFi weak in the rooms but strong in the lobby. The coffee shop offers good coffee. There’s a club close-by playing loud music all night till 5am including week days. If you are in the rooms to the back, this is an issue.
This hotel is one block away from a shopping mall. It’s about 30-45 minutes from the airport. The shuttle provided by the hotel is expensive than uber or taxi. We took it because we were a big part with a lot of luggage.
The experience here was good and I’d stay again if I don’t need to have sound sleep.

over-all, it was a nice stay.

i have been a repeat/frequent visitor of the hotel. its proximity to the mall and other govt. offices is a plus for me. its always my hotel of choice. the places i need to go to is just within walking distance.though its a little “cramped” but its okay with me. the cleanliness and the service makes up for it. im only a little disssatisfied with the hotel car which i booked, though. the vehicle was not presentable enough. the fact that i was willing to pay 5x more than what it’s worth paying with grab taxi for a trip to commonwealth, qc, the hotel staff who booked the car should have exerted more effort to look for a better vehicle.

literally last minute booking had a problem checking in because they cant find my reservation end up paying for a room until my reservation was confirmed and that they will return my payment before i check out. . . had a problem checking out because as i understand with their staff is the one in charge is out for lunch so had to wait for almost 30 mins just to check out and get the money i paid the night before.
the good: bed is comfy and the shower heater works. clean, strong wifi, walking distance to almost anywhere in malate.
the bad: tiny room. . . very cramp bathroom, limited parking space

I booked & paid by my credit card almost a month before my stay BUT they gave me a worst room, rejected other guests because no signal for my mobile network. My family & friends can not contact me as well as me to them. I still went out of my room and stayed long hours on their fire exit stairway to get some network signal. Their wifi connection sucks too. Its telling connected but not connected at all. Or very weak signal. I was not able to rest and sleep good because I keep going out from my room and stayed to their fire exit stairway to be able to contact my loved ones.

Can;t beat the price and location

I have stayed at 1632 many times and know some staff by name. They are great, very helpful, the price is attractive, and the hotel is generally quiet and good standard.
The only concern for some might be the hassles with salesmen and beggars outside in Malate, but they are not abusive, just a lot of them!

Hotel was fine but dodgy area

We only stayed in Manila for 1 night to break up the journey returning to the UK.

If you absolutely have to stay in Manila this hotel is fine and does the job.
Pro's:
- We stayed on 3rd floor - couldn't hear any outside noise - good night sleep.
- 2 min walk to Robinson shopping mall for last minute shopping and plenty of eating options
- Quite close to airport - about 1/2 hr without traffic.
- Reasonably priced.
Cons:
- Small but functional rooms - not suitable for more than 1 or 2 nights stay
- Area didn't feel very safe - sign on reception saying 'please deposit firearms'! But to be honest I'm not convinced there is any part of this city that is. I'm being VERY restrained with my choice of wording - this is the most vile, dirty, seedy City I have ever visited and I consider myself well travelled. AVOID if possible. Shame this place has now formed part of our memory of the Philippines.

The only place that felt safe was the mall - probably because it had metal scanners as you entered.

Great service from front office staff.

We booked 2 rooms and arrived very early, before the usual check in time but the front staff girl was very helpful and upgraded both rooms to the deluxe from the standard and allowed us to check in right away so we could get some badly needed rest. She was superb and I was very grateful. The location is close to Robinsons mall and there are lots of places to eat in the area.

Very good value for your money. The hotel is very close to the Robinson Mall, so its perfect for a few days of shopping etc.

For the price, the hotel is very nice and the staff were very friendly. I have stayed in more expensive hotels which were in much worse conditions, in Manila so i have to say this was a pleasant surprise.

Is undergoing major renovation . In the USA this hotel would not be allowed to be open for business during this sort of renovation.. IT is impossible to sleep , every morning (7days a week) at 9 am the construction workers woke me up with there machines and tools..
The rooms that are done , are nice , but like I said you cant sleep , there working doing major renovation , not just a little paint here and there but taking walls ,cabinets etc out and reinstalling them.
I was really disappointed and had I not prepaid in full on the internet. I would have left after the first night.\

I would not recommend anyone staying in this facility. The rooms are extremely narrow, you can not walk around. The bathroom is very small. You can barely shower and there are no wash clothes to use and you have to ask for soap. The towels provided were ragged and needed to be replaced. The facility was located in a crowded area, so sleeping was difficult. The beds were hard and uncomfortable.

However, the staff was helpful and friendly. The facility is near the Robinson Mall and there are a lot of food choices nearby.

a pleasant hotel for budget travellers

The staff were friendly and helpful. The rates were reasonable. Rooms have hot water, cable tv, 2beds. Centrally located next to a Robinson department store with coffee shops, a supermarket etc.
What I didn't like is the cockroaches in the room. If only they sprayed the rooms from time to time! To be fair, most budget hotels will have pests, but it's sometimes a scary sight and this problem needs to be dealt with.

Economical hotel in Ermita with small rooms 2nd

This is my second posting as my second visit during the week. This time I was placed in a typical room. Luckily, I just booked this room to leave my luggage and take a shower before heading to the airport.

The room is very small. While using the bathroom, I had to keep the door open because there is not enough room to move around.

As mentioned in prior post, I would recommend a stay but for a very brief duration.

Economical Small Little Rooms with 2 beds

This is my first overnight stay at this hotel. Last time I just booked a room here for the day to keep my luggage and take a shower before a night flight out of Manila. Our room during this brief stay was larger than my friends room. I think it was the Deluxe style. It was small but you could move around comfortably. It is in contrast to my friends small room where you would have to keep the bathroom door open while using it. Unless you are a smaller person, you will not be in comfort here. Maybe the deluxe room might be better. It is conveniently located to Robinsons, which is just up the street and various restaurants and clubs. The street which it is on is not as congested and does not have the homeless and vendors as the other streets. Would recommend this place for a short stay but not long term.

The hotel is very noisy, the AC system was making a strange noise most of the time, and we can't turn it off if we want to survive with 39 outside.
Windows are not noise-proof and we hear everything going on in the streets, many night activities are going on till the morning, horns, cars, traffic, garbage, road works, etc...
The standard rooms are not convenient, they are narrow and long, not good for 2 persons with luggage.
No free WIFI or breakfast for the price, and it is not a cheap one among others around.

over all my stay was great and even if there were some down sides like the cost of some things there, this hotel was in great location to many things. at the malls or any where you go the workers will greet you and make you feel welcomed and it was nice. do beware of walking as the driveres thiere dont know how to drive and will hit you if you dont pat attention.

As above the location is great, it's fun and in a safe area.you don't need to walk far to find good bars and restaurants, although it is near a lot of hostess bars KTVs but its not full on in your face and you can easily walk by without getting hassled.

Hotel was clean and the room was large, although a little bit dark.Clean and nice and pretty cheap.

Staff were fine, not amazingly friendly but pleasant.

I have to visit Manila a lot and I'll be coming back here next time.

Rooms are like dungeons....dark and too small !!

The Hostel1632 should not be on your list of recommended hotel. I was so miserable that eventhough i booked 2weeks on the 2nd week i checked out for i cant stand the tightness of the space, a window that all you can see are airconditioner cramp in tight spaces, we have to walk sideways to make room for each other for the room itself and worst is the bathroom. It is dimly lighted and not recommended for people who wears prescription glasses and claustrophobics. One day stay is enough but for your vacation etc......please do yourself a favor go to another hotel. The price is not even worth for this kind of hotel. They charge everything including parking for hotel guest. I can only compliment their workers staff and housekeeping as they sure do a good job. But please dont send yourself to disappointment. I wasted money for my last week (5day) stay in this hotel but I just cant stand it anymore. Everything is overpriced and the management cares less. If they are following japanese style rooms....i rather go to japan and stay at a japanese hotel but to cram a guest in such tight space room is torture and misery !! The security person named \"george\" even tried to hit on my fiancee and ask personal questions to her. This is totally outrageous.

The rooms are so small, the bed is so old. They need to widen the sizes of their bathrooms. In my room where I stayed was a nightmare!!!! Imagine at night you could hear everything the live band the disco the screaming. You can hear everything, they don't have any sound proof where customers can't hear any noise... They need to change the beddings everyday, especially the towels they're so old!!!! Over all I can't recommend this hotel at all... I did not enjoy my stay in that Hostel hotel sorry...

This was a last minute booking for my mom who needed a place to stay day before her flight back here in the US. She said the room was very small & the location was scary. She said there were a lot of by-standers. However, she said the staffs were polite. She would recommend this hotel if you're really desperate.

At first I was really skeptic in this place however I decided to give it a try because it was really close to hospital I was doing business with. When I arrived I was immediately greeted with overly gracious staff that I was ecstatic on how friendly they were. It took only 5 minutes at the reception where I was then escorted to my room. The place was rather small but it was so clean and so organized. The comfort room was also quite small but it didn't really matter. I stayed there for a night and I was comfortable the entire time. the location was just perfect. It was near the hospital, malls, bars/disco. I would definitely go back to this place.

ダブルベッドが部屋の真ん中に側面が壁に沿うように配置されているとてもコンパクトな部屋でした
飲み歩いて寝るだけの部屋なので綺麗でエアコンも温度調整できるタイプなので満足でした
一通りの設備が揃っていて水もサービスで付いていてほとんど文句はないのですが、マイナス点はシャワーの段差がほとんどなくトイレまで水浸しになってしまうところくらいでした

Deluxe Double Roomを利用。角部屋だった為、他の部屋よりも若干広かった。深夜の外からの大音量の音楽と、古いエアコンの大きな音は相変わらず。エアコンを切っても、隣の部屋のエアコンのブゥーン、ブゥーンという大きな音まで聞こえてきます。また、ほかの部屋も同じなのかわかりませんが、部屋の電気を消しても、メインの電灯がうっすら点いていて、部屋が真っ暗になりません。音、明るさに神経質な人はダメかもしれません。

深夜まで飲み歩いて寝るだけの人なら、コストパフォーマンスが高いのでおすすめです。安宿のアメニティのせっけんはザラザラしていて泡立たないことが多いのですが、ここのせっけんはなめらかでよく泡立つので気に入ってます。部屋のカードキーは安っぽい電磁カードで、スマホと重ねたりすると使えなくなることが多いので気を付けましょう。

価格相応のホテルです。日本の上野エリアに位置しています。周辺は和食レストランが多数あり、ローカルフードが食べれない私には便利です。宿泊者はフィリピン人、韓国人、日本人がメインだったように思います。

部屋の窓から見えるのは

ルームナンバー225でしたが窓の外は隣のビル、何も見えません。多分そのビルにはKTVなどの商業施設が入っているのか、音楽が遅い時間まで聞こえるので少しうるさいです。あとは価格相応のホテルです。

SATOSHI

長期滞在に最適なホテル

いつも使うホテルです。立地的にも便利なところにあって、近くにRobinson Place、レストラン、両替所など全てあります。フィリピンにはもう２５年以上のリピーターですが、いろいろな所に宿泊した結果いつもここを使うようになりました。短期の滞在なら５Starホテルもよいでしょうが、長期の場合大変良いです。Standard roomにもベッドが２つあって、これにも重宝しています。（１名に増えても追加料金はありません。）難を言えば部屋が狭いことです。
