Omg. Have a sense of humar for this dive! Bathrooms walls are bulging from water leaks. It’s gotta be next inline to be torn down. Staff was very nice and holy cow the elevator worked. But bring your own sheets. Towels are blood stained. It’s gross!

All lamps were broken, our door lock literally fell off the door, the hair dryer sparked when you turned it on and we found a used condom under the bed. When we took the concerns to the front desk, they shrugged and said “yeah, okay”. Not averse to staying a an older hotel that needs TLC but these guys truly do not care!

Room we stayed in had only 2 working lights
Room was clean but seeing the mold on bathroom sink faucets bathtub/ shower was not cleaned properly had mildew all over the tub
Rooms even have the door sign for do not disturb or make up room
Was woken up by the housekeeper poinding on the door in the morning. Not respectful kept knocking until i opened door. Fixtures really need a update and better repairs done. All the repairs that were made they didnt even bother to paint over the patchwork you can clearly see maybe half dozen repairs over the years. For a hotel on robson street in downtown vancouver
Ive seen nicer and cleaner rooms updated in hotels along east hasting . Not like to be a mean person but if you have guests comingnto this hotel they should have made sure all lights in the room are working. Only 2 lights work are the hallway light and the living room. Seen a few electrical fire safety hazzards that really concern me with the dated appliances. Stove oven was made in the early 1970's rust and corrosion all over it was not a good look
If they actually took the time to fix everything up. Im sure it would be a great place but location is perfect but fair warning the rust and mildew outdated appliances broken lights does not make this worth staying here

We only stay here for night for New Year’s eve, great thing is that it cllose to shops and restaurants, you will get what you paid for, the room was big and having a great view but building were too old and having a smell, this hotel needs to be upgraded a bit. But for 1 night stay not bad for us.

The front desk guy was awesome on our first night. Second night not so great. Then first guy back so we told him our feelings.
This is NOT a 4-star hotel. But the room is a suite with a kitchen (didn’t look for cooking things, just used the glasses.
Sadly the hot water boiler stopped last night so cold showers this morning. But that’s not a negative rating.
So many restaurants within two blocks!!

The hotel unit was dated but clean. It is a large apartment style suite with full kitchen, bedroom and living room. It alsi includes a small balcony.

I stayed in late October and the unit was cold as the windows were drafty.

Overall, the hotel is a nice budget friendly place which is close to downtown and many attractions. The furniture was dated but the price was reasonable.

I would stay there again.

One evening I was just watching TV I heard a big bang at the door. I got up and saw that the door to my room was unlocked but the door latch stopped it from opening. I then open the door to see a guest opening the door to her room. She apologized for opening the wrong door. The latch on the door is the only way to secure the room from the inside as the door locks automatically when exiting the room. I notified the front desk of the incident and they assured me that every room has a different key. I told them that it wasn’t so as the next door room had unlocked my door with their key. They didn’t seem to be too concern…

The rooms are absolutely beat down. There were cockroaches in the bathroom. Some of the lights were not working. Bathroom was gross. Basically the place looked like it was a homeless den from east side Hustings.
Had to sleep in my clothes because on top of the bed just in case.

Yes, the hotel is dated and contains all the quirks and uniqueness that goes with it. However!
Staff - Friendly and respectful, check in was quick and easy.
Room - Like staying in a mini apartment, equiped with a stove, large fridge, coffee machine, hide-a-bed in the living room and a separate bedroom. Overall room was very clean, there was zero smell (not even the
\"old building smell\"). Great water pressure in the shower.
Area - was convenient to amenities, shopping and transit. \"Quieter\" part of the city.

Over-all: Would stay again! Price was right! Comparing to other accommodations in the lower mainland. Unless you're wanting a 5 star luxurious experiences with 5 star luxurious pricing, the Tropicana is comparable to any other hotel in the downtown area. Considering you will spend more to stay at a hostel with shared common areas - Book the Tropicana and get your own private experience!

Tough to think we spent over $200 to stay at their very old, very beat up hotel. But I guess this is now the cost of staying in Vancouver?
The hallways and elevators were dirty. The bathroom, sheets and towels were clean. Yes we checked thoroughly because the place was so rough. We did not take our shoes off.

The hotel is in a great location with free parking (bonus for a city break), the hotel is 15 mins walk from Canada Place and Stanley Park. It’s located near the shopping area of downtown. Our room was good, however some of the lighting required attention, the furniture is ok if a little tired in places,. The bed was extremely comfortable and the shower was hot with good pressure. The staff were excellent throughout our stay. A great breakfast is to be had at Cora’s directly opposite hotel. We had a great time in Vancouver

Great location, located on Robson St, central to downtown area and within walking distance of all the sites. The room was large (one bedroom suite with a kitchenette) and we had a partial view of the Vancouver Harbor.
The hotel needs a major retrofit, the furniture is old and worn, cigarette burns on the sofa bed and curtain; cupboards were old and falling apart, carpet is old and worn. There is no A/C but the windows open - were didn't need A/C in late Sept. Parking is on site and included which is a good feature.
Although the hotel staff are pleasant and tend to your needs, I wouldn't recommend this hotel unless your choices are very limited.

The suite layout was good but I don't think any updating was done to the room. The tub had dirty caulking around it, the sink taps were corroded, and it looks like there is some kind of small bullet hole in the bedroom window. There are many more signs of wear so $300 per night seems like a lot to be honest.

Only booked this hotel because all other options were exhausted. Ridiculously overpriced. Rude and dismissive front staff on check in. Room was open/unlocked on arrival. Room very outdated and smelt of cigarettes. No towels in the bathroom. Toilet constantly running. Key got stuck in door - 5 people tried to get it out - hotel staff made it sound like it was my problem to resolve?! Hotel in need of major renos/TLC.

Beyond the pale of terrible - stay away!

This is not a hotel, it is a homeless shelter. In 30 years of traveling the world, the only worse experience was in the mid 80's in Nigeria. The place is run down and derelict. Filthy and run down. I have the pleasure the spend over $275 for the night here, and while I never expected a 5* experience for that money thanks to gouging happy rip-off Vancouver, I certainly did expect a soulless, reasonably up to date, definitely clean and acceptably peaceful stay. I slept less than 2 hours due the the pull out couch being nothing more than a bent frame and the noise because it was so hot and without AC there was no option but having the windows open. Toilet door would not close, bugs on the floor, urine stains around the seat fittings, ripped, worn carpets, 30 year old bedding and furniture. I went to Vancouver to ride in the GranFondo and this hotel ruined it all. Genuinely beyond the pale of terrible!

The hotel was bad bad bad. The room is very old and on the scary side. It reminded me an 80s Russian spy movie. The receptionist was not cordial and lacking any customer service initiatives. We left the luggage bc we could not checked in until 4 We thought they were kept safe. When we returned the room where the luggage were was unlocked and accessible by anyone who walked in. We asked for a bathroom before we checked in we were told it was out of service. The room was so dusty my friend who I was traveling with coughed all night because she is allergic to dust.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this hotel in a horror flick from the 70’s. From the peeling wallpaper , the green sludge covered bathroom taps , to the lovely green carpet literally rolling up on the floors . I’m not going to mention the kitchen , Gordon Ramsay would hurl his guts out about . The front desk staff acted like we were a hinderance like the 20 layers of dust on everything . Pretty sure I have Hepatitis from this place and the giant hole in the couch has made me itchy . Would have been nice to have a toilet that worked and didn’t keep spitting my turd back up the pipe . Wouldn’t recommend this dive even to the homeless .

Oh man, I feel like this building will be torn down pretty quick. It was terribly dated and kinda deteriorating. Everything was in pretty grim condition. The shower especially! Geez replace the shower head! you get a lot of space and the neighbourhood is amazing. However, it’s Highway robbery to charge $250 a night for a place that looks like it hasn’t been Reno’s since the 70s. It was clean and bed was decent - however lots of construction accross Robson street so loud - wonder how many more days this Tropicana has left in it!

This was EXTREMELY disappointing, I will be contacting the hotel directly in order to get some sort of a refund as well. The staff was disinterested and could not answer the most basic of questions. They initially would not let me pay with a debit card, tried to make us pay credit saying it was hotel policy, then when we objected, finally let us pay with the card we chose. Next, the lady, who was quite rude, told us we were getting the \"best room.\" If that was the best room, I don't want to know what the others looked like. There were red streaks on the wall in the bedroom and ceiling in the washroom. The place was untidy as a whole. Finally, the key, which was a physical key, got stuck in the door, meaning we had to latch the door at night or else someone could have walked right into our room. When we asked for help, none was provided.

After the Air Canada strike stranded us in Vancouver at late notice, I made the mistake of booking this hotel in haste. It definitely wasn’t worth the price we paid.
The hotel is very outdated and very run down, with 1980’s decor.
The only good things were: staff were friendly, location, wifi and the bed/pillows were comfortable.
The bad things were: rundown condition.
The lift were dirty and sounded like they were going to breakdown at any moment, plus none of the panel lights or indications worked.
damaged walls and fixtures.
no aircon, so had to have windows open.
loud city/traffic noise due open windows, even on the 10th floor.
Bedding and towels were old, worn and stained, plus bed sheets didn’t fit the bed. I think they had been cleaned, but I couldn’t tell.
PowerPoints loose in the walls.
Toilet leaked.
After 38 years of travel around the world, this is the worst hotel I have stayed in, that wasn’t in a third world country.

We were able receive an early check in. The room was ready, clean and spacious. The shower had good pressure and the water was hot
The staff were super friendly in our coming and going. It is located within walking distance to many places to visit and eat. Cora’s across the street was a good breakfast option. So good!
If you don’t mind no air conditionering and enjoy having the windows open for ventilation, I would highly recommend Tropicana.

It's older and needs a bunch of work but for the price -- it's good. Hotel prices in Vancouver are insane so finding anything under $300 a night was a bonus.

I'm pretty sure that It said it had air conditioning - our room didn't have any (and I don't think other rooms did either. Wasn't a big issue as we were able to get cross breeze moving between the rooms.

Staff were wonderful and very friendly. We stayed there because it was the most affordable hotel in the area, and would probably stay there again for that reason. But the place is in definite disrepair-peeling walls, broken mirrors, broken light fixtures, mold growing in the bathroom. Our second bed was a hide a bed couch covered in stains and burn holes and had no cushion or comfort to it. Balcony was terrifyingly unsafe looking but had to keep it wide open because there is no AC and the only ceiling fan was broken. We had a full kitchen including a stove that looked like it came from the 50’s, broken cupboards and dents and stains on every surface. Table and chairs were more comfortable than the couch, and the tv worked. The room had a weird smell to it, my daughter was worried it smelled like urine. The location was great. Good thing we went to see Vancouver and not spend time in a hotel.

It’s an older building but it was great for my needs. You get exactly what is advertised. The room was clean and quiet. It was a good price for the location.

The carpet was old and torn. The bathroom ceiling was falling apart and on the verge of falling down. The drapes were so dry rotted, it was falling apart with touched.
The place smelt old.
