Crappiest Hotel I’ve been too! I literally had to book a different hotel after checking in, as it was literally IMPOSSIBLE to have access to the minimum, such as food. Service was okay, greatly disappointed. Hotel was empty, most likely due to the location, and amenities. Rather stay in the city at this point.

Beautiful hotel; comfortable bed; lovely setting. To reach rooms, you go outside to walkways. Very nice breakfast buffet. Only problem was that they do not have onsite restaurant & had to drive narrow,winding road in the dark over 3km to nearest restaurant

Great country hotel with great breakfast

This hotel is situated away from busy highways on a country road. It has great parking facilities, clean and spacious rooms and a fantastic breakfast with cold cuts and scrambled eggs and sausages as the warm option. The air con is very strong and quiet. The rooms are also quiet but the plumbing can be heard in neighbouring rooms when they wash or flush but it’s a very minor inconvenience. The rooms themselves look quite new. The staff are exceptionally friendly.

We loved this place. The staff really makes it. They greet you every morning for breakfast and ask you what you want from the coffee bar and make it for you on the spot. They also gave us a spot-on recommendation and made our reservation for wine tasting at a Tuscan vineyard.
You would need a rental car (or tour bus) for this location. It is north of Florence and in the country side. If you are looking for amazing views from your own private balcony/patio then this is the place you want to go. The room size is reasonable, but the shower stall in the bathroom is rather small. If you are an \"executive-sized\" individual, you may find it difficult to maneuver in.

The rooms had ants crawling all over. They moved us but the next room also had ants. They brought some spray and we were able to kill the ants. It advertised they had a restaurant It was closed and since we had a car we were able to drive up the road a mile to go eat. They did have a very nice breakfast.

We had the greatest reception we could possibly expect! The gentleman running the hotel was the nicest, friendliest, sweetest person I have ever encountered on my travels! He made us feel so welcome! The room was very confortable, clean and spacious. Breakfast was ok, but some of the food felt a bit stale. Overall would stay again.

Wonderful location and the most gracious staff!

Quaint setting with the most gracious hosts I've ever encountered! Loved having the patio door open at night and hearing a wolf in the distance!! I had read reviews about the breakfast being great and it was absolutely wonderful! The staff recommended Gianni's restaurant about 2 km away - it was one of the best meals we had! I would definitely stay here again if we ever go back to Tuscany!

Nice hotel close to Florence

Clean, modern yet in the Toscany spirit, this hotel offers everything a tourist can ask for and more. The rooms on the first floor are with private gardens overlooking the hills. The second floor are with terasses with the same great view. Very comfortable bed, modern bathrooms, wifi works perfectly. The breakfast was very good, probably the best I have tried in Italian hotel so far. Super nice and hardworking people are running the place. I would highly recomend it.

Speed limit outside the hotel - The hotel is next to a busy road and you can hear the cars and motorcycles driving past fast. In ideal world it would be great if the speed limit was lowered outside the hotel which will limit the notice and you can safely walk cross the road to the restaurant

Would definitely return to and recommend the Meridiana Country Hotel. Loris Frascarelli and his staff were wonderful and could not do enough for us during our stay. Upon our arrival, Loris gave us a choice of rooms; we obviously took the one with the better view. The Meridiana is quaint, accommodating, clean, in a beautiful location and close to a fantastic local restaurant they recommended just down the road (Gennaro); you could actually walk there.

Hotel staff were amazing!!!

We arrived in Calenzano via train after dark to a deserted station. The hotel staff called a taxi service to pick us up and cared for us at check-in. They offered a generous breakfast with a wide assortment of breakfast food! Afterwards, the hotel manager took us in his personal car to a local bus station and gave us a free bus pass to the city center. We felt so welcomed and comfortable around such wonderful people it made a very memorable moment in our trip.

Great value hotel base for touring Tuscany

We stayed at the Meridiana for a week. Great friendly staff, lovely clean room and public spaces with a fab selection at breakfast each morning. All the rooms have a balcony or garden which is great, as are the mountain views, although the road running past the hotel is very busy and therefore noisy. Superb value for money though. We watched bats hunting every night. Calenzano doesn't have much to offer a tourist but if you have a car this is a good base for touring. We did Florence, Siena and Poppi amongst others. There's a huge Outlet at Barberino too should designer shopping be your thing.

Hotel ok and the breakfast was good. However had a problem with our room on the first night (ants) and staff's English wasn't great and took ages to swap rooms and no apology. Air con was not on for the first day apparently not switched on until mid June no matter what the temperature. Restaurant opposite was excellent.

Nice country hotel outside Florence

Hotel was reasonably quiet away from the crowds. Though breakfast was officially over at 10 am there were a number of days where we a little later and on one occasion the reception even called at 11 am to see if we still wanted breakfast.

No restaurant at the hotel but plenty close by and as you need a car to get to the hotel there it didn't present a problem.
Staff were very friendly and helpful and on one occasion called Tourist Information in another city to get information for us.

The rooms were cleaned every day and were modern with a nice veranda to sit out on on the evening. We had a pleasant view but nothing awe inspiring. It had a gym and sauna but we never used those

We would definitely stay there again

Very nice hotel in Tuscany countryside

Booked the hotel through Expedia. The rate was more than good. The hotel is appr 20 minutes outside of Florence by car. Very pleasant and welcoming staff. Rooms and overall facitilities in very good condition. I found the breakfast very much to my liking, perhaps an American would expect something slightly different but for a European it was just perfect.
Pleasant and quiet surrroundings. I would say that a rental car is a must if one wants to get around. With a car pretty much all good sites in Tuscany are within 1-1.5 hour of driving- perhaps Livorno and Arezzo a little further than that, but Pisa, Siena, Lucca, Empoli, San Gimignano, Castellina in Chianti and of course Florence were very accessible. I would come back without hesitation.

Great 4-Star Hotel at Two Star Prices!

This is a beautiful, new hotel, with nice clean rooms, terraces, and a very friendly and helpful manager and staff. Loris and staff did everything possible to give us a great stay, including very helpful information on how to get to Florence by bus, which stops just outside the hotel. (Takes about 50 minutes to Florence central.) Great breakfast, and staff tried to cater to customer wishes--we wanted decaffeinated cafe au lait (with hot milk) and no problem. To reach the hotel, it is best to have a car, but then park it in the free secure lot, and take the bus in Florence. Great value for money!

This was the best hotel we stayed in.

This hotel was very clean, the staff were very helpful, the setting in the Tuscan hills was amazing, and I could not fault the room. We felt very cosy tucked away in the hills of Tuscany. The hotel across the road had the best Italian food we had ever eaten, every dish was heaven and it was well priced. The only downfall is that public transport is not very accessible and a taxi ride to the nearest station will set you back 30€. There is a bus however, but it does not run very often, it takes you all the way in to Florence in about 40 minutes.

If you're after an escape from the hustle and bustle of major cities like Rome, this is the perfect place to unwind and relax. Picturesq views of Tuscan mountains, fresh air, staff speak good english & there's a fantastic restaurant right across the road. Breakfast buffet was very good also. Would recommend to anyone traveling through this region by car as this seems a necessity

Relaxing and great location

The hotel is very clean, staff very friendly and helpful. Great location for Pisa and Florence. You can go further afield by hiring a car as we did, or using the train from Prato. We used the train to go to Florence and Bologna. Fairly cheap and easy to use the train.

There is a small fitness room and massage treatments available which are well worth it.

Fantastic restaurant across the road, great food, great service, worth the money.

Terrific staff and the nice bright appearance of the hotel made for a very pleasant stay. We had no problems finding it though it was a couple of hundred yards further than what our gps said. Having a rental car is a must as I don't recall seeing any buses going past the hotel. Terrific stay that would make me recommend it to anyone wanting a nice quiet place outside the city to be used as a base for visiting the surrounding countryside.

Newer hotel, fairly close to Florence

The hotel was nice, the room was mostly clean. The bed was hard, but that was typical of the places we stayed in on our trip to Europe. The staff were friendly and the breakfast provided (included in the price of the room) in the morning was very good. I must comment on the restaurant across the street from the hotel. It is owned by the same people. We ate there, and the food was quite good, but I ordered a cappuccino after dinner and it was served lukewarm. I asked for it to be reheated, and when the poor server took it back to the kitchen, I heard one of the kitchen staff yelling, then throwing the cup and breaking it! I'm not sure what the big deal was, but I think it's a common expectation that your coffee be served hot. The servers didn't speak very much English, and I don't speak Italian, so I had a hard time explaining myself...anyhow, was very disappointed with the experience in the restaurant, but pleased with the hotel.

A good base for exploring the Florence area.

Our room had a little garden looking out to the countryside which was very pleasant. The hotel was a good base to visit places to the north of Florence like Pistoia,Prato and Fiesole.
It is situated on a fairly busy road so whilst you are in the countryside you cannot easily walk out into it from the hotel.The breakfast was good with a reasonable chioce of food(but not much fruit) There is no restaurant for food in the evening but there is a restaurant across the road .
The hotel is reasonably priced and is good value for money.

Nice hotel with good value outside of Florence

My family of four drove up to from Rome to tour Florence and chose this hotel because it was significantly less expensive than those in the heart of Florence. It is located about a twenty minute drive outside of the city, in the \"country\" as the name suggests. There is very little to see or do near the hotel other than enjoy the nice view of the Tuscany hillsides. The included breakfast was fine, the staff was friendly and the hotel was in good condition. I would not consider it a four star hotel though, but a good three star. There was a nice restaurant across the road where we enjoyed a great local meal and a good bottle of local Chianti!

Nice Mountain Retreat!

I was looking for an affordable accommodation in the Florence whereabouts. This sub-$100/night hotel came up and stood for its promise. Half to a full hour drive from center of town (traffic permitting), located on a beautiful (though sometimes steep) side-road on the slopes of a creek. You must have a car. That's not a public transportation spot. Parking is free. The large and comfort rooms open up to the open air carrying the sound of a running (seasonal) creek. English-Breakfast is included with freshly made Cappuccino. The staff speaks English and is helpful and polite. Free internet is available in the lobby and rooms. Cellular coverage is \"so-so\". Dining opportunities in the immediate vicinity include a restaurant across the street, same ownership as the hotel, that offers excellent Tuscan food and an expansive list of wines. Prices are on the high side but quality and service are unbeatable. 200m up the road there's the \"Pizzeria\" which offers, besides Pizza, Tuscan dishes at more affordable rates. Check opening days/hours as those vary. Reservations are recommended.

The hotel is on the nice location. To reach the Florence you need 30 minutes drive by car.
The main problem is the inthernet connection. The signal is so low so you can work only from lobby.
Breakfast is typical for Italian hotels.

The facilities (room and amenities) are in great shape and the staff is helpful; breakfast is also very good, and in general this hotel is a good value. But it is a little too far from Florence, if your goal is going to that city to see the museums and do any shopping. Find something in Florence outskirts where you can have access to the bus system more easily!

Peace and beauty on a Tuscan hillside

Peace, beauty of the surroundings not let down by the ambience of the hotel and the friendy attentiveness of the staff, everyone seems to have a smile for you and inevitably you have a smile on your face as everything is done so well. The restaurant over the road is amazing, and you have a choice of two others within walking distance: if you don't have a car the bus to Florence runs regularly and reliably from just over the road, it is cheap at ~3 euros and worth it to get out of the hustle at the end of the day.

Pretty much everything about this hotel is excellent. We forgot that we had paid for breakfast and after a fee days of skipping breakfast, the reception went to the trouble of informing us that we had breakfast included in our room rate. Location is probably difficult if you don't have a car but Florence is 40 minutes on a bus from outside the hotel. Only a few places to eat near by but both are good and a swimming pool would be great. If you are after experiencing typical Tuscan Countryside, you can't go wrong with this.

Great hotel outside Florence (use a GPS)!

This hotel was a wonderful location to stay outside of Florence. The drive was very easy into the city. In fact, we enjoyed some quiet time in the mountainside after leaving Rome! The rooms were very modern, air conditioned and extremely inexpensive. In fact, this hotel was the best bargain we found throughout Italy. The quality of hotel is the same as a 3.5 star hotel in the US. The restaurant to the right and down the street is family owned and wonderful! The best pizza of the entire trip to Italy. There is a laundry close by, so we washed clothes midway through our vacation. Do not hesitate to stay at this hotel. The staff was very friendly and spoke excellent English. The breakfast was incredible -- huge amount of choices! You will love Italy and this hotel.....we stayed two nights and then moved on to Venice!

Nice, comfortable, modern hotel

Reasonably modern and in good condition, only down side is the restaurant which is across the road and a bit pricey. The location on a pass in the hills is delightful, the road towards it very enjoyable to drive and the Futa Pass only a short drive away.

Meridiana Country Hotel

We thought it would be nice to be in the Tuscan countryside - turns out this is in the middle of nowhere. The room itself was a very bare-bones, minimal sort of room. Smallest shower stall I've ever seen. The only restaurant was across the street and it was terrible. More than a one-hour bus ride to get into Florence. A miserable experience.

Out of the way but fine if you have a car. Staff are friendly but their English is limited. This was not a problem for us but could be an issue if there had been problems with the room, etc.

I would recommend this hotel

Depending on your needs, this hotel is situated outside of Florence in a very nice quiet area. It does not seem you are so close to the city as the setting is in a small town with lots of mountains and trees. You can take the bus to the train station about 10 to 15 minutes from the hotel (I dont know if the hotel shuttle takes you there also) or like we did, drive your car and park for free. Take the train to Florence that will take you down town. The train station is in a small city called Prato wich has enough coffe shops and restaurants, also plenty of groceries stores in case you like to buy snacks to take along. We like to stay outside the city because you get to see another side of the country.
The Hotel staff was very friendly and very helpful. The hotel is very nice with good size bedrooms and bathrooms. It has a nice setting for breakfast, an inside lounge if you want to have a drink (from their bar) or if the weather permits it, sit in their outside patio.
Breakfast is very good, the typical european style. There is also a very nice and very good restaurant right across the street from the hotel, which we enjoyed very much.
The hotel is a little bit hard to find if you are driving, so make sure you have a GPS. It is 25 minutes from the airport but I have no idea if the hotel sends the shuttle to pick you up or how much it would cost fro a taxi ride.
I deffinetly recomend this hotel and would stay again, it was great.

I stayed three nights at this hotel in November. The hotel and grounds are well maintained and comfortable. Our room had a small patio with a semiprivate grassy area. The breakfast was typical of European hotels and all the items were fresh and displayed tastefully. This is not in the city, but is located conveniently to roadways that offer access to all of Tuscany's major destinations.

I would definately stay at this location again.

very nice hotel and extremely clean

This hotel is very clean and the amenities are very nice in the room. The rooms have all been remodeled recently, without losing the \"Italian villa\" feel. We had to leave at 5am for our flight, and the staff still made us cappuccinos to have beforehand and let us check in early. The only problem was that the hotel was about 15 minutes from the train station, and there wasn't much parking there but they do have shuttles except they don't run that late. I would definitely go back!

My wife and I stayed at this hotel during our visit to Italy. The hotel was booked due to its location to the city of Florence Italy. After a 35 minute very pricy taxi ride we found that not only was the hotel not even near Florence we where going to need to rent a car if we wanted to see the city. This was an extra cost for the three days. So if we had gone with a limited buget we would have only seen the hotel in Florence. At least we would have been able to hear the roosters all day instead of just 5am every morning!!!

Can't say enough good things about it.

I definitely must start this off by saying I was a little skeptical at first but was pleasantly surprised in the end. The idea of a 4 star hotel for prices rivaling that of a 2 or 3 star seemed a bit sketchy but really, this hotel deserves the 4 star rating.

Anyways, the hotel itself is not very easy to find as we found out driving around almost 2 hours before asking for directions from the local gas station. So to any future travelers, I urge you to print out directions before you go either with yahoo maps or mapquest. You'll be frustrated (like us) if you don't.

But, once we arrived we had the most amazing stay in a wonderful setting. Our room was excellent, with a balcony overlooking the hillside and we were even awoken by roosters which some may find annoying but we found it funny, reminding us of the farms back here in New England. The Bed was very comfortable, there was plenty of storage for our things (including a fully lockable safe for for laptops and money not needed) and the all tile bathroom was large, modern, clean and very well designed. Sure, the TV was small and there were few English speaking channels but it's Italy, why would you want to sit in front of the TV? The breakfast was decent, usual stuff but a nice spread and the cappucinos were great. The staff was pleasant for the most part except for one gentleman who seemed to be a little cold to us for not speaking the language very well... All in all a great stay and would definitely stay there again.

Can't wait to go back to Florence but not to the same hotel as it was very far from Florence

Very nice hotel and staff but i have to say if your young and would like to have a good time then you need to be at the city not at the country side, it will cost you about 75 euros to go to Florence from your hotel, however there is a bus you can take but i was always on the go and couldn't wait to get going.

Good hotel to stay if you have a car and going to travel around in Toscana. Very nice restaurant just across the road. Breakfast seems as not 4-stars, and breakfast room personal cannot serve quickly.

Good and very comfortable hotel in the Barberino/Mugello area

It was off-season for the hotel, so prices were very low
There was a restaurante in front, just doesn't open mondays
Continental Breakfast was well served
Hotel facilities, including gym, were good
Nicely sized double room, big bathroom.
Might be a very nice place in the summer, as is already at a mountain area
Staff was very helpful, internet was free in the room.

good hotel but is in the middle of nowhere, beware

A big big let down, on arrival the hotel looked and was perfect the room was spacious and had great views over looking the tuscan hills. We had a car and the nearest town, prato was 15 mins drive. after breakfast the hotel had none or very little food available no room service, because of the location it was difficult to get food. There was a restaruant over the road but it was shut the 2 days were there. a taxi can cost up to 36 euros to get back from prato to hotel so be warned. the train station in prato however has free parking so there is light at the end of the tunnel. Just so you are aware the hotel is fantastic rooms were clean and breakfast was great too.
