Super big standard room, great shower, clean and tidy. Staff were lovely from Luke on the front desk, Kevin and Sam on duty in the Rooftop bar. Only minor issues were the street noise during the night which is nothing to do with the hotel.

The staff , Shady receptionist lady and Carl the maintenance gentleman are extremely helpful, nice, kind and friendly people . Well done also the manager in the morning is very understanding I do not her name . The night person who sings rappers is great entertainment. Staff in general very helpful. Well done . My room was great .

ROACHES! DO NOT STAY HERE! POOR MANAGEMENT!

The WORST experience EVER! This is a ROACH motel and I would NOT recommend this place to my worst enemy. Upon our arrival, we were greeted warmly and assigned a room. There was long hair in the shower and the shower was wet, as if someone had just used it. The bathroom was dirty. I asked if someone had just checked out and was told no. We were then \"upgraded\" to another room which had a larger bed. The shower was not well put together or designed, as the door was in the middle with large gaps, so water began to flood the bathroom when I showered. We had to call the front desk to show them and the gentleman brought extra towels to mop it up, but couldn't move us because the hotel was full. It was also loud and noisy outside and you could hear everything because of the thin windows. I got up in the middle of the night to use the restroom only to find ROACHES CRAWLING ALL OVER! There were roaches in the shower, the bathroom, on the fridge, walls, EVERYWHERE! I had never seen so many roaches! I was freaked out! I could not go back to sleep. As soon as daylight hit, I contacted Hotels.com, booked another hotel, we shook out our luggage and clothes then checked out. I tried to speak with the manager, but was told he was away. I called several times during the week, but each time he avoided my calls. He refused to refund my money for the 7-night stay. This place is unacceptable and so is their management. It should be condemned and management should be fired! GROSS!

Did not get the room I paid for!

I would have rated this hotel much higher if I had gotten the room I paid for. I paid for a Royal Room and that is NOT what I got. Very disappointed. I left a note for the manager when I left but so far no luck on getting the difference in money back. Never heard from manager. Otherwise the hotel is fine. The guy running the rooftop area was great. Don’t order the sushi though. They get it from down the street and it is not good. I would have rated this place higher if I had gotten the room I paid for.

I booked a high-end room. When I got to the hotel they put me in a basic room. They told me Expedia made an error and double booked the room and someone was already in my room. After multiple chats with Expedia nothing could be done. The hotel refused to honor a partial refund for the room I never received. I'm more upset with Expedia as I paid them and expected them to provide support.

The hotel was amazing. I had a good stay and everything surrounding is easily accessible. The Hotel Rooftop is Amazing! However Expedia needs to communicate the booking to the hotel quicker as I arrived and they had no knowledge of my fully paid booking. Only after really searching did the hotel find it. It really dampened my arrival spirits but otherwise all was well.

Really amazing staff and it's a great price for what you get. DON'T LEAVE WITHOUT CHECKING OUT THE ROOFTOP! It's really amazing up there and has awesome views. Location was nice as well...wasn't crazy about the room itself- strange lay out, views to a parking lot, but the shower was one of the best showers I had during my travel- possibly THE BEST, and the blowdryer they provide was also the best.

I really enjoyed it as it was my first trip out of Durban and it was a good hotel to start at.
I would recommend it to anyone travelling to CPT.
It is also central and next to a great Sushi Restaurant.

Room had no shower and the windows in the room had been filmed over so one could not see thru them to the outside ! I was also told breakfast was included when I checked in.... when I had already started eating I was told it wasn’t! At the end they comped the breakfast all due to the kind lady that was waiting on me. Her name was Noxi what a gem of an employee she gave the most professional impeccable service

Convenient for the city centre

This hotel is well placed for exploring the city centre on foot. On the other hand, it's not very safe to wander around the area after dark on your own, so always go in a small group.
Everything was clean and modern but our room was small, particularly the bathroom, where there was no space to put anything! The Cape area is suffering from a severe drought so it's understandable they need to save water in the hotels - but the shower flow was very poor, and we probably wasted quite a lot of water trying to get a proper shower.
The staff were friendly enough, but didn't pass on a telephone message to me.
There's a roof garden, which it's worth going up to for the views over central Cape Town - and would probably be quite nice to sit out on in the summer months.
All in all, this is a moderately priced hotel and if you'd like to explore the city sights on foot it is well situated - maybe opt for a larger double room.

I was thrilled to find any availability in the city center of Cape Town on the weekend of the biggest bike ride in the world, over 40,000 people!!! It has an ideal location, just a few blocks from Green Market Square and all the craft booths, Long Street, my favorite book store, Book Lounge, the Pan African Market,and some excellent restaurants, Carne on Keroom Street Shortmarket Club at 88 Shortmarket, and Fork on Long
Street. Also close to Parliament and the Company Gardens. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The hotel is very reasonably priced and the drinks affordable.

However, staffs should warn next foreigners about cheats in Square area. It was a really bad memory of mine.

The hotel's internet service is bad. The front desk offers slips of paper with access codes for service lasting only about 20 minutes at a time. I purchased a one-hour slip for $100 Rand in addition to the 20 minute blocks of service. The hotel is adequate but the lack of readily accessible internet prevents me from calling it good.

The stay was ok but they lost my original booking and I had real trouble getting it sorted out. The room was ok but the bath/shower didn't work properly and the towels smelled really musty. I was charged for 3 breakfasts and we only had 2. Given everything I won't stay there again and I won't recommend the Cape Diamond to anyone.

Small & Cozy Hotel in City Center

My first impression upon arrival at the hotel was 'Are you serious?' for it looked much bigger & nicer in the online photos i have seen. The reception area was pretty small, and didn't even look like a hotel lobby other than the hotel signboard on the wall. On the outside, the facade looked old & dusty. It certainly needs some revamp. My room was clean & airy to my pleasant surprise. The windows in my room faced the streets, and were left open when i entered. However, the room was surprisingly clean & cozy instead of being dusty or greasy. Despite doors being slammed by some occupants of the nearby rooms occasionally, the 4 nights i had spent in the hotel were kind of peaceful. The toilet was pretty clean too. But the toiletries provided were limited to a small piece of soap, a small bottle of shampoo, and a small bottle of bath gel, which were quite diluted. No toothpaste or toothbrush. No comb or shower cap.

The bathroom wasn't clean at all, it was smelly and it had urine on the floor. On my second evening I realized they only made the bed, they didn't change the bedding and also didn't clear the room, it was just the same as I left it in the morning. I was told that money I paid on booking included breakfast but on my first morning I was told I only paid for the room so had to pay for breakfast again. Hot water takes forever to come out.

Apart from the clean tidy room, the old lift, and location, what depressed me most was the fact that parking was an issue, and further to insult we were told to pay for the privledge to park a car as safety were your hotel is situated, does not lend for safety and concern for your guests Not all travelers depend on useing there feet to suit the hotel. The hotel should suit the safety and accommodate parking as a non chargeable tariff.

Cape Argus Cycle Tour

Nice balanced hotel for price and location for the Cape Argus. Small rooms means somewhat confined living quarters with a bicycle, but then again you probably should be out riding and enjoying Cape Town.

Easy access to the Waterfront (50ZAR by taxi) and lots of little cafes and currency exchanges near by is a plus. Lack of controlled AC may mean uncomfortable temps towards hotter months. It's a great hotel to rest our head and prepare for you next adventure in Cape Town.

Beware of Room 806

Cape Diamond is in a sketchy neighborhood and our room was brutally with only 2 small windows which when open only allow the tremendous sound of buffeting wind into the room - we had to put a suitcase in front of the door to prevent it being sucked in by the wind. But the worst of it was that when we turned on the bathroom light at night, there were roaches everywhere! We'd reserved 2 nights but left as early as possible after the 1st. They were kind about the situation though and refunded the cost of both nights.

Diamond has much to be desired

When I booked this hotel, it had some good reviews. My experience was quiet the opposite. Firstly, they wanted to charge me R100 per night for parking. This parking was doubled up parking where I would have to park behind another guest and leave my car keys so that the other guest could move my car! The rental company would love that.

Secondly, their housekeeping staff ignored my 'do not disturb' sign. She claimed she did not see the big sign on the door handle. Theirs front desk stuff were rude and unhelpful. Poor service. Won't go back!

Only there for a single night. Was very pleased with my room thought was in 701 which was right by the lift. If I was staying longer I would have asked to move to another room.

Breakfast was excellent.

Some of the staff were indifferent to average apart from one, Dominique, hope i got the spelling right, he was just the most helpful guy!!!

There was an issue with there being \"no\" internet, but Dominique help fix this because I needed it to check into my flight home.

A bed but little to recommend it

This hotel is handy for the CBD and close to the castle, but pretty basic despite the relatively flashy reception/dining area. Very intermittent internet access and everything non-inclusive is paid for cash in the hotel including room service, which is really weird. My room was overlooking the fire exit which was covered in guano and constantly noisy from the air-con fans. The fire exit area (which was the only vista) was so dirty that the blinds were drawn permanently by the hotel - I did not feel like enjoying the view so left it the way it was! Also little sleep due to hydraulic machinery operating noises during the night.

In the heart of Cape Town

This property shows its age, with no air-conditioning in the rooms and a very crowded public reception/restaurant area. However, its staff is very friendly and helpful, it offers a good breakfast buffet and above all, it is in a great location in the heart of \"old\" Cape Town. Some three blocks away from the Green Market, the Castle (old fort), St. George's Cathedral, Parliament and the Company Gardens, the hotel is the perfect base for exploring the magnificent sites of this city on foot, without ever getting too far away from your room. The latter is basic and sufficient for resting, but clearly lacks the comforts of more modern establishments. But as they say: \"Location, location, location,\" and for easy access to this city's most important tourist sites this is definitely the place.

I can't say enough good things about this place. The location was fantastic, the staff were amazing. Alain should get a raise - he is the star of this hotel and was just a lovely man and very good at his job. The people who have complained about this hotel are not taking into account that it advertises itself as a 3 star hotel and i really think they are expecting too much. I went there with no expectations and was more than happy. My husband and I will definitely be going back there whenever we can get to Cape Town again.

great value, location, staff, experience!

The staff and the good value per night of this hotel is what makes it special. The location is also great, as it allows you to get to many sight-seeing places within a short distance by foot. V&A Waterfront is 30 minutes, and everything else is about 10 minutes or less away. At night, the surrounding area is a little dodgy, but that's the whole of Cape Town, not just the area by the hotel. The staff members are superb and really go out of their way to make you feel welcome and \"at home.\" The breakfast is very adequate and quite good, although if there are groups staying in the hotel, be sure to get to breakfast before they eat everything in sight.
The only downside of the hotel is that the walls between the rooms are paper thin, so if you have a noisy neighbor, be forewarned that you will hear everything. BUT, having said that, the front desk was quick to respond when I called regarding parties going on with a group next door.
The rooms are nicely appointed and are simple, yet welcoming and fresh. If you go up to the 9th floor, you can gain access to a rooftop deck, which is a very nice spot to read, write, eat, relax, etc.
Overall, GREAT value for the money, GREAT location, GREAT staff, GREAT experience. I would stay there again if I return.

Horrible, even with that price

As soon as the hotel doors slid open (if they worked) the smell hit me. It was only in the hotel. Where was it coming from? Putrid odour...kept me up at nights with urge to gag. It seemed to be coming from the bathroom. But it was in the hallways too. Sewer...?

When we checked in, the towels (old, stained) were thrown on the rack, there was a blood stain on the toilet seat I had to call housekeeping to remove; the front desk staff seemed clueless and disorganized.

The elevator is extremely slow and feels like you could be trapped in it at any moment.

No fridge, the shower door didn't close so floor got wet, but no bath mat provided on the first night.

Walls with large mould spots. No central air. Bathroom has no ventilation/air system, and if not for the freshly painted ceilngs, I'm sure we'd see some scary mould there too.

No room safe. The sink was designed with a hole on top (why??) so when we used the (very elevated) tap, of course the floor got wet.

Ugh. We've stayed at similarly-priced hotels that were much much cleaner. We left feeling itchy and unhealthy. They manage to stay open presumably because of their GREAT location.

The hotel was good value. The Aircon in the room was very efficient and the breakfast was good. Staff were very helpful. Unfortunately we only had one night at the hotel as there was a leak into our room and there were no other rooms available. They treated us very well arranging a taxi to send us to another hotel nearby,which was much more upmarket.

excellent hotel and excellent location

myself and my girlfriend originally stayed here for 5 nights before traveling to PE but on our return to cape town we booked in for an extra 4 nights until our return home due to excellent value and location of the hotel.

the staff are very helpful and friendly, the room are a decent size especially if like us you don't spend much time in the room as we were out sight-seeing most of the days.

the breakfast is very nice with a good selection of hot and cold foods available also.

the location has to be one of the best parts it is about 2 min walk to the train station (good for going anywhere down the peninsula such as boulders or Simon town and cape of good hope). it is also close to the civic center about 7 min walk, this is where the shuttle from the airport stops.

it is also on one of the main shopping streets just of adderly street and about 3 min walk to all the local markets such as green market street

it is about a 20 min walk to the V and A waterfront but it only costs about 35 rand, (3.50 euro) to get there in a taxi.

also there is a jacuzzi on the roof, that nobody sems to know about as it is always empty, with an unbelievable view of table mountain plus the hop on hop off tour bus practically passes the front door.

all in all we would definitely stay again and recommend it to anyone

Convenient but ....

The hotel smelt very odd in the public rooms and lifts. Not sure if this was stale cooking but it was a bit offputting. Hotel staff were friendly and welcoming. It is a bit shabby in the reception area.

Our room was OK, very small but clean and lots of hot water, but it looked right out into the multi-story car park opposite, which was a bit off putting.

Breakfast was very nice, so that was a bonus.

Glad we were only here for one night. Not a bad place to stay, as it is quite central, but we would probably not choose to use it again.

The Cape Diamond- don't be fooled by the name!

I was in room 801, which had a balcony. That was great until I realised that I could walk along the balcony and tap on several other room doors (or peek in if the curtains were open)
The patio doors and bed overlooked a carpark 20 metres over the road, and no nets in the windows so the curtains had to stay shut.
No air conditioning- in Cape Town, in the height of summer? Ludicrous.
The bathroom had fungus bubbling the paint at the edge of the bath, and black mould on the ceiling and tiles due to a lack of ventilation.
It also hosted several cockroaches at night.

Reading the info booklet, it says that at one point the building (which could be stunning given some TLC) was a drug and prostitute den during the 90's. A great little story if the rooms are fresh and bright and airy, but pretty grim in its current state.

On the plus side? The reception area is lovely and the breakfast is a great buffet for the price.

Overall- I would never recommend it to anyone, and I am never staying there again.
It's a shame- it has the potential to be a real little diamond.

As stated in other reviews the staff was indeed very friendly, although beware of the night bartender with the rasta hair who was trying to overcharge us 2x. We stayed for 10 days and they got us too in a small room first. We got a bigger room the 2nd day but the amount of space to hang your clothes up is not enough if you stay longer than a day (was tiny in both rooms). The housekeeper forgot something most of the days, a towel short here no toilet paper there but if you call they fix it straight away.
The couch in our room had stains on it and some of the wooden floor parts were a bit loose so be careful.
If you have a car prepare for a 70 Rand per day extra to park it in a parking garage with 4 spaces allocated on the 2nd floor, 4 on the 6th and 4 on the 9th floor so if you are late back be prepared to make 36 turns up to the top floor to park your car.
Breakfast also nice with choices of juices, breads and/or a cooked breakfast. Staff here also very friendly.
Our first room on the 8th floor had a shared balcony looking onto another tall building, the second one on the 5th floor saw the parking garage as a view, maybe the other 2 sides are better but don't expect a wonderfull view otherwise.

This is a very conveniently located, basic and well priced hotel for sight-seeing in Cape Town. The staff is friendly and helpful and the rooms adequate. The buffet breakfast is excellent and caters for all tastes, though the pastries and the croissants are not up to standard. The only problems experienced were the airport taxi did not arrive to collect us and the lifts were out of service for a few days. On the whole, a good experience and a hotel I would recommend to others.
