Very nice hotel with very friendly staff, fluent in English. Great breakfast included Bulgaria’s famous yogurt, scrambled eggs, sausage and European-style cold cuts and cheeses. It’s about a 20-minute walk to the gold-bricked streets of the historic downtown. Limited dining options near the hotel but a small market with fresh vegetables, bottled water and Cokes, etc. is a three-minute walk.

Started with having to climb seven flights of stairs because lift wasn’t working then the room and bed smelt badly of cigarette smoke despite asking for a non-smoking room. Everytime I went to reception they ignored me and continued speaking to other employees in Bulgarian as if I didn’t exist. The breakfast was nice and staff in dining room were pleasant.

The room is quite small and dimly lit. The furniture is dark brown and so is the carpet. We were there in mid April and found the room very warm. We opened the window to let in some cool air but that was a short term solution because of the street noise.

Comfortable bed clean bathroom but carpets old and stained.
Very nice breakfast though.
My only complaint is that they charge 25 Euros and not Levas for airport transfer when a Cab only charges 25 BGN . So I got a cab as cheaper. I would stay again as it’s close to the bus station. Thank you.

We were pleasantly surprised at the attentiveness of staff to our needs, their ability to quickly help when needed and always being greeted with a smile. The food was chef exceptional. Ate at this hotel every evening as a result. Breakfast was plentiful with eggs and bacon, fresh croissants and various coffee choices. Room was clean, AC worked well and very spacious. VIP status was definitely worthy. Location of the hotel was in walking distance to all the historical sites (less then 20 minutes) We would recommend this hotel.

I am in Sofia to start a tour of the Balkans. The tour agency uses this hotel and olí chose it for the first night I was in town to be at the same hotel. The hotel and area around it is quiet. Walkable to the city center. Breakfast is good in the mornings.

Overall I had a lovely stay. The property was clean and staff were friendly, and a to-go breakfast was prepared for my friend and I for our early early flight. The only reason I gave this place a 4 star and not five was there was just one pillow for each bed, which is something I’ve never seen. I needed more neck support. And the bedding cover was a bit short. I’m 5”10, so anyone over that toes would be poking out. I would stay there again, but different room.

The area around the hotel did not appear as safe as we were expecting. This was an issue only after dark. During the day it was all good. The hotel is very close to the bus station and to the railway station. It is also close (20-30 minutes walk) to main city buildings. The staff is very friendly. The hotel’s room was clean.

This hotel is ok as overall we weren't very happy with our experience. The wi-fi connection in the rooms is very poor, almost non-existent at times. The towels and linens are old and worn, as the towels are very thin and had holes in them. The hotel is exceptionally run down and needs some refurbishments (stains on the carpets, paint peeling off the walls, etc). The lobby and many of the corridors smell heavily of cigarette smoke, which is disgusting. The complimentary breakfast was underwhelming, as the only thing we enjoyed were the croissants. Our heater would make very loud noises (especially during the night) which were so unpleasant that we opted to turn it off, choosing to be cold of an evening rather than listening to the eerie noises. The beds were also quite firm, and the amenities were very limited in the rooms (they don't even provide teaspoons).
I feel like this hotel cuts a lot of corners to not spend money where it's important, and honestly, it shows. Unfortunately, I would not recommend staying at this hotel.

The hotel is just a bit off the centre of Sofia in a residential and quite area with easy access to the very heart of the city. It provides bright and spacious modern decorated rooms that are very comfortable.
There is an excellent restaurant on site with room service upon request. Highly recommended place, value for money.

Highly rated by Hotels.com clients and we can understand why. Look beyond the local area which is eclectic at best. Conveniently located a short walk from bus and train stations. As regular walkers we found the 20 to 30 minutes walk into the old town tourism area to be very easy . The reception staff were both helpful and attentive at what is a small boutique hotel of 7 floors or so. The rooms are comfortable and quiet and the breakfast is adequate without being extravagant. We opted to dine in one evening and we're so glad we did. This was one of the best meals of our extended 10 week holiday. What the restaurant lacked in ambience was more than compensated by the fresh salad and two different main meals chosen ....and at a very reasonable price. We opted to book an additional two nights stay after a side trip to Plovdiv by bus and the hotel kindly stored our main baggage for us without fuss. This hotel is great value for a stay in a capital city and should be strongly considered.

We stayed at one of the apartments on the seventh floor. The hotel is housed in an older building that has been renovated. The room was clean but we were able to see dust particles in the air when the sun came out in the morning. Parking is more or less valet as the number of parking spaces is limited and we had to leave our keys at reception in case the car had to be moved to allow other guest cars to exit. Check in was a pleasant experience despite the fact there was some trouble with finding our reserves in the system. Sonya and Jivko were extremely helpful and polite. They really made our experience so much better. Breakfast in the morning was pretty good and included a variety of foods. Lastly, this was one of the few hotels in Bulgaria that had comfortable pillows.

The staff were fantastic and spoke English perfectly. They went out of their way to take care of me including making me a breakfast to-go bag for my early flight. The restaurant is on the basement floor level, but the food was delicious and the restaurant was clean.

The beds were memory foam and super comfortable.

The hotel is located in an area that doesn't offer a lot of parking. There were maybe about 9 parking spaces in front of the building. I arrived early and received the last space. Perhaps there was more elsewhere, but I wasn't aware of it.

The hotel isn't close to the downtown, but there are things to walk to. It is on the outskirts of Sofia where the surrounding buildings are a bit rough. I can't vouch for this area, but if I need a place to go that is inexpensive prior to a flight again, I will consider this hotel.

Nice hotel close to the bus station

It is a nice hotel close to the bus station. I had a courtesy call before arrival and was asked about the approximate time of arrival. Also - I mentioned that I wanted to have a double bed in one of the rooms and two single beds in the other one. And that what we received. The only thing - we didn't see coffee or tea near the kettle - only sugar and coffee whitener, which we didn't make fuss about. But other than that - it is a very good hotel and the staff was excellent. Will go again. And recommend.

We arrived Easter Saturday and were welcomed with an Easter biscuit!! Lovely hotel and staff, it's a little out of the centre of the city and we were concerned about the area when we first arrived, but it wasn't a problem. Very convenient for the railway station. Arrived late due to the flight delay and was a receptionist in the early hours to help me check in. Room was a good size and clean, however it was rather hot and the A/C was not working due to the season. Hotel staff were very polite and they let me leave my luggage after checking out before going back to the airport. The breakfast was very decent including cooked and cold foods. The slight downsize is the hotel is a bit out of the city centre however a metro station is 5 min walk away.

When we came to check in, I gave my name at the counter and the guy asked for my passport (my friend and I were on vacation from Canada). After I gave him my passport, he looked at me, looked at my friend, and then at me again. He then asked for my Driver's license. So I gave him it and again he looked at me and at my friend. He said the pictures looked totally different and asked if I was trying to pull something. I said no and he asked if I was sure, and if I wasn't sure then he was going to \"report this information to the police in the morning\". After a few more minutes of checking my passport, he reluctently gave us our card keys and didn't even wish us a nice stay. This totally ruined our experience.

Lovely Sofia hotel with the best staff

My wife and I spent 1 night at the lovely Budapest Hotel in Sofia in a Deluxe room. Even though it is a bit outside the city centre, it only takes 10-15 minutes by foot to get to some of the good sights in the city.
The personnel at the hotel were all exceptionally friendly and smiling (very rare for Bulgaria in our experience). The morning breakfast buffet was also adequate equipped whether preferring an English, American or traditional Bulgarian breakfast style or simply just wants a fresh cup of coffee, some fresh fruit or cereals.
The free parking in the front is also a nice bonus which was one of the reasons for us to choose the hotel at first.

Our heating system was not working so a freezing cold room, having asked several times to move room and being told to give it a half hour or so despite it being left on all day and still not working, we were eventually moved to another room. then when we asked for extra blankets we were told there was no more blankets in the hotel!! The room was fine when it eventually heated up, despite the curtains falling down but the staff were very friendly and helpful. I felt like a really annoying guest though as I had to ring down to reception so many times even to ask for more toilet roll as there was none left by housekeeping... and every time we went to our room our key wouldn’t work so a trip back down to reception each evening to get the key changed!! while we enjoyed our stay in Sophia I would not recommend this hotel to anybody as it needs a lot of tlc. But a big thank you to Sonia on reception who was very helpful with all our problems.

Have stayed here a number of times over the past four years.This hotel is good value and conveniently located for the main train station and metro.

The breakfast buffet is great and has a good variety of options.On my most recent visit I also noticed the bed in my room had some decent new firm pillows.

A combination of friendly, helpful staff and a comfortable room means I will usually consider staying here when in Sofia.

This was a great hotel but a little far from the major sites. We only had one short night at this hotel before an early morning flight, so we didn't do any siteseeing, but could tell it would be a bit of a walk to the sites if we had. The hotel had free parking, which was a definite perk for us. They had free cookies at check-in and complimentary muffins in our room, which was a nice touch. The room they gave us was set up for 4-5 people, which was odd because we were a couple, but at least the room was rather large. The shower was great and the wifi worked well. I was also impressed that they gave us a free packed breakfast to go since our flight was very early in the morning. Had we planned to stay in Sofia for multiple days of siteseeing, I probably wouldn't choose this for our hotel, but it was great for a quick layover.

We stayed here for one night and were impressed by the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. We had a room with an extra sofa bed and the room was large enough for two adults and two children. The buffet breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. The hotel is close to the central train station and not as close to the centre as some other hotels but as it was raining when we were out and about, we used taxis to get around, which are very cheap. I'd definitely stay here again.

Friendly and Helpful Staff in a Clean Hotel!

My stay at Hotel Budapest was absolutely wonderful. The rooms were clean, the breakfast was substantial (the bread is amazing), but best of all - the staff was friendly and helpful. They provided food recommendations, called to arrange reservations and taxis throughout our stay, and helped teach us the basics of the local language so we would have \"please\", \"thank you\", \"yes\", \"no\", \"hello\", and \"goodbye\" under our belt before heading out on adventures. The plate of cookies left in the room by housekeeping was definitely a bonus.

The location itself was less than ideal, but every other aspect was inviting, clean, and friendly. Thank you for a great stay!

Ideal location and good value/service

Just returned yesterday. Lovely stay with good location for centre. Location itself could be described as 'up and coming' but that should not put anyone off, not only does it stand out but this is part of the charm of Sofia. Only a few minutes walk to Lavov Most, which makes for some excellent views and the Metro location which can be taken to the airport with one change.

Hotel itself was clean, staff very friendly and overall great value.

Stayed for 4 nights at this great hotel in Sofia.
We booked a standard twin room which was of decent size and had all amenities. Wifi connectivity was really good and fast. Room was cleaned daily.

Tea and coffee were restocked everyday . There were a couple of bottles of water on arrival , as Tap water is Sofia is not potable.

The reception staff was very helpful. Helped us with maps and travel options and whatever we asked for was provided promptly.

The hotel is conveniently located and is a 4 min walk from Lavov most metro station which is one stop away from Sedinka (city centre) and has easy connections to all attractions and the airport.

Complete disaster

Paid for a deluxe room with sofa bed. NI sofa bed. No bathrobes, no slippers, no mini bar only a fridge. Room smaller than quoted. No city or courtyard view. I had a brick wall. No newspaper only 4 sheets of A4 paper with a couple of articles on it. No sitting area as described, only a chair at the desk. Complete disaster. Area was very rough, graffiti, dirty and noisey.

Good hotel in great location

Weekend in Sofia, Bulgaria for leisure travel. Location is not too close to the City center but it is close enough. Convenient to supermarket and local restaurants

Good hotel for few days in Sofia

We were 2 couples of friends with a car. the hotel was very pleasant for us.Not expensive,clear, not far from the city center and metro.

Great hotel near city centre

The staff, the rooms and the restaurant are great. Parking, although a little limited is a nice plus too. It's about a 15-minute walk to the city centre and most restaurants. Great value.

Excellent hotel not far from city centre.

Hotel is situated about 15 minutes walk from the city centre. Very clean with extremely helpful staff. Would be more than happy to stay here again.
