The room was very spacious and looked amazing, along with a nice view with curtains. Bathroom was wonderful and clean, would've been nice to have a small soap or so but handwash wuas there which other hotels don't usually provide so that was appreciated. The beds were very comfy and extra pillows and blankets were provided. Staff helped with questions whenever needed, with no major problems popping up during my weekend stay. Right next to a major bus stop which gives routes to the city's main areas. Thank you very much, would definitely visit again.

The hotel is part of the school so it has very typical ambiance. My room had shared bathroom, but it was clean and accessible when I needed it. One of the railway statios is nearby, city center or the zoo are close. Overall it was comfortable stay.

Our door was plywood with handwritten number on it - no security lock. We weren't given towels. The toilets down the hall were clean, but the showers were not. Thankfully we were only here for 12 hours.

I had an enjoyable stay however on one of the nights some of the young guests were continually talking loudly on their mobile phones until late.
I appreciate that is not the hotel‘s fault but some ( quiet after dark ) signs in the rooms might help.

I loved the cleanliness of the bathrooms. The room seemed clean but there were dust bunnies under the beds. I love the location of hotel, so close to the city park. However, there is a melancholic quality to the place. There are no pictures on the walls in the rooms. The lobby is too dark and has an old, communist feeling. The receptionists were very kind and attentive. The price seemed fair. Overall enjoyable experience.

Property is badly in need of a full upgrade. Construction works are happening now, giving the effect of staying on a building site. Avoid for at least 2 years. At that point it may just about reach 2 stars. Hotel is more of a hostel, with rooms having multiple beds and no ensuite facilities. There are shared facilities on each floor. Very easy to find much better accommodation in Budapest.

Probably wouldn’t book it again

I understand the ‘you get what you pay for’ manta. But I’ve stayed in lots of places and thought ‘it’s cheap and cheerful’ and they were fine but there was little to be enjoyed about staying here. Other than the fact I could actually manage to get to sleep on the god awful thin foam mattress. This place was so old looking. Wallpaper and borders went out of fashion years ago. Redecorate. The only good thing was the price really.

Good \"No Frills\" Budget Accommodation In Budapest

This was my second stay at Dominik Panzio on a trip to Budapest for a concert. The hotel is convenient for the Budapest Papp Laszlo Arena and national stadium, both only a few minutes' walk away. It's on a quiet street, close to Keleti railway terminus and the end of the main arterial road into Budapest from the west. In maybe 15 minutes, you can walk to the old centre of Budapest, the Jewish quarter and so on where are all the \"ruin pubs\", bars, restaurants, cafes, boutique shops and so on.

The hotel is a little old and tired but well maintained, clean and very cheap. The rooms have shared bathrooms and toilets at the end of the corridor -these were also clean enough. The reception is staffed round the clock and the staff were all very helpful and spoke English quite well.

The main advantage of Dominik Panzio is price -it is very cheap indeed! The advertised room rate in reception was 35 euros for a double or twin room but booked in advance via Hotels.com, it cost just EUR 22.50 (plus a city tax of HUF 450 per person per night -approximately EUR 1.50 each). This is cheaper than or equivalent to most hostels' charges for two beds in a dormitory.

We had the breakfast in the morning, (07:00-10:00, EUR 4.00 / HUF 1,200 each). It's a buffet and pretty good value: cereals, muesli, fruit, yoghurts, juices, teas, coffee and bread rolls with sliced cheeses, meats, tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers.

I would recommend Dominik Panzio for short stays on a budget.

I quite liked the actual building it was in as well as how the hotel was set out. However, I would’ve liked to have been told that the hotel shares the building with some sort of school. I was woken up every weekday by kids screaming and chatting loudly. Also the beds in my room were quite small, my feet hung off the edge and I’m only 5’ 6”. But for what I paid, it was just what I needed, somewhere to keep my luggage and sleep after a long day of walking.

Rooms that are very very hot but they tried their best in installing a fan in each room but will be better with two fans per room as we were staying in a two bedded room. Had to open our windows which attracted bugs. So you have two choices, to die of warmth or have bugs fly around your room.

Toilet was not very clean as two toilets were shared with the whole floor which probably consisted of 20 rooms (which is about 30-40 people).

Otherwise it is situated in a good location. And price as compared to other hostels were way cheaper. You get what you paid for.

Hotel average but good for price. Location is perfect. 5 minute walk from many buses that bring you straight to the centre. Heroes square within walking distance about 20 mins.
Didn’t try the breakfast there but shops were about 10 minutes away. Staff very friendly. Rooms a bit small but again, good good for the low price.

The hotel is basic with share facilities which could do with updating. Reminded me of student facilities/rooms. The rooms are large enough but with little furniture, for example no chair. But the bed was reasonably comfortable, room was vacuumed daily. The desk staff were very helpful in giving advice and direction, storage of passports etc. Although there was a restaurant/breakfast room, no meals were served there at any time, though there are good cafes etc within a 5-10 minute walk. The WiFi was reliable. Ok if you are not expecting 5 star! ( or 3 or 4 star) but fine for a couple of moderately costed, well positioned , overnights.

Cheap and cheerful in Budapest

On a short break to Budapest, we chose Dominik Panzio for its location close to the Budapest Arena and also for its low price -a double room was the same price as two beds in a dorm elsewhere. The hotel was comfortable and although it's an old building, everything was clean and in good order. The reception is staffed 24 hours and all the staff we met were very helpful, professional, efficient and welcoming. My friend said that he thought he had been bitten by bed bugs in his bed but there were none in mine. On the whole, I would recommend this hotel for budget travelers for a night or two.

Very basic, but so is the price.

I stayed 4 nights and enjoyed it. Everything worked, there is a computer in reception for guests to use, the staff are excellent. Supplied towel is a hand towel - but big enough for me! Don't forget your soap! I'd stay there again. .

Very uncomfortable, beds were rock solid with about a 3cm think piece of foam for a mattress. Shower head was broken, bathrooms dirty and smelly. Location wasn’t too bad about 15 minute walk to close train station and metro. Staff were very blunt.

Ok if you're on a budget and planning to spend most of your time in the city , ie using the hotel for a place just to sleep and wash.

No mattress!

There is NO INTERNET or wifi in any of the rooms! You have to sit in the hotel hallway near reception if you want internet. There are no MATTRESSES - you have to sleep on the hard bed, without a mattress, only some of the rooms have a mattress too. You are given one small hand towel only, there are no large towels. The breakfast is 900 extra and it is just cheap fruit squash, bread, cheese cold meat and cereal. The location is fine. The hotel desk staff are very nice and work very hard.

There is no kind way to say this...the hotel was disgusting. The front desk was borderline rude. As you walk to your room you walk across dirty, stained carpets. The room was small, smelled terrible and was so gross feeling. The carpets were filthy, the bed wasn't even a real mattress. The cover came off the comforter and I almost lost it...the comforter looked 30 years old. The women's bathroom had dried blood on the sink. The door didn't even close, even the toilet stall door had no lock. So you didn't feel safe at all. I actually skipped showering because I felt it would only make me dirtier. There was only internet in the public areas. Thankfully we only stayed one night. It was a cheap hotel but I still felt cheated. I'd spend the extra money and get a better place. Page neighborhood seemed rough, but there was a nearby bus stop. We moved to a much nicer apartment studio, much closer to the sights.

When you stay in a pension there are some difficulties to be expected. The staff was friendly and cool but everything else just wasn't worth it. Loud drunk people and not the backpackers. Seemed like locals who were destitute. Spilling drinks in the lobby. The only wifi service is just around the front desk. The air draw in to the rooms is horrible and if you go in the summer prepare to sleep in your own sweat.

You get what you pay for

The hotel is fine, and was well suited to our 3 night lads trip where very little time was actually spent in the hotel. It was incredibly basic but clean and friendly. Can't complain at all when it's so cheap, and I'd recommend this to anyone who just needs somewhere to dump their stuff while they explore the amazing city, as it is in a reasonable area with good transport links and in walking distance of bars/clubs/shops. Staff friendly and helpful, giving us good advice on where to go and what to do. Dominik Panzio is nothing special but it does a job and as long as you expect basic you won't be disappointed.

Looks more like a hostel than a hotel

The hotel has shared bathrooms (and they don't look very clean), plus they only provide one (very small) towel per person. The building is old and clearly in need of some maintenance, furniture is really old, almost falling apart. The room was very dusty and the carpets very were dirty. Also, they warn you not to leave any valuables inside your room when you leave... Wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.

Great hotel to save your accommodation budget

The hotel is great considering the price, and it is very near to bus stop. Most of the attraction are easily accessible through public transport and can be reach within 10-30 minutes depending on where you are going (from the hotel). The only bad point about the hotel is that renting a fan cost 500 forint/night (about 1.8 euros). However, the weather at night is very cooling, simply open the window and you would be able to have a good sleep till morning

Alright place to sleep in Budapest

The hotel is pretty average. The beds are hard, but there is free wifi, so that helps to make up for it. It is in a quiet area and is easy to get to public transport from. There is a local tax you will have to pay on arrival before you check in, they accept both HUF and EURO. Breakfast is bread, cold meats, cheese, spreads and cereal. There is also juice and tea at breakfast.

My partner and I stayed here for a week and had no problems with it.

a low-budget choice

This hotel is suitable for low-budget travellers (just a little better than hostel). There is only shower and bathroom on each floor, not very convenient. But for its low price, it is worth it. My room is a bit smoky, strong smell of cigerattes (even though I ask for non-smoking room). I didn't bother to ask for a change, since this hotel overall may be like that. Again, if you want a five-star Hilton, don't come hre. But if you want to save money, spend a bit more than Hostels, this may be your choice. Free WIFI only in the hotel lounge, not in your room. Security is good since reception controls the buzzer of the door. Parking is only free on the street, but there is plenty.

Better as a place to crash for the night than as an extended (10 nights for me) stay. Paper thin walls, but cheap and cheerful and with relatively easy access to central Budapest. Very easy to get to Keleti station and hero square on foot. Communal bathrooms, but entiful hot water, clean, and no waits when I went (Christmas to new year).

+ Hotel location is superb, it's some 800 m from railway station. It is situated in quiet street next to the church, opposite from luxury hotel. Reception is open 24/7 and very friendly. This reminded me times in dorms at university. Everything was very clean and the old interier was very well maintained. - Negative I consider only cold breakfast (ham, cheese, jam, flakes), could be worth of thinking (especially when not too many guests) of the alternative: short menu, from which a guest can choose (e.g. ham'n'eggs, wiener sausages, ...). Could be even less costy for hotel. And what is important, no risk of 3-days old buns and rolls.

We didn't realize the hotel didn't have bathrooms in the rooms when we booked it, so just be warned. Otherwise, we were very pleased with the cleanliness and location. The beds were hard and there was internet only at the reception. Staff, however, was very nice and helpful. We got what we paid for.

a hotel that's missing the hotel feeling

Like the title says: We actually didn't get the hotel feeling. Maybe it had something to do with our room: The fact that it had nothing in it, nothing as decoration or to make it more pleasurable to stay.
Then there were the beds. They were some reconstruicted sofas which laid so painfull for your back.

At last and perhaps the most important thing: there were some crew members who weren't friendly at all and tried to make money out of everything!

The location was good. It was not that near to the center but it was very good accessible by bus!

You get what you pay for, a low cost place to stay. Bare minimum, if you expect more, you'll be disappointed.
it's okay to sleep there, but if you want more, check out other places instead. Staff is okay, but it isn't their fault, the facilities are nothing fancy.If you don't want to spend a lot it's a good central location, yet for a few bucks more, you can get other places nearby.

Budapest for new year's

This is a hostel, not a hotel. The rooms are tiny, with restrooms down the hall. Be prepared for very few amenities. The building is old construction and does not hav an elevator. W stayed on the second floor and had to carry our luggage up. The photo on the web is misleading. The outside of the building was a bit run down, but when we went inside it wasn't as bad as we thought. The room barely fit our luggage cases, so we were creative with how we moved around. We were here for 8 nights, though no other guests appeared to stay as long between Christmas and New Year.

With that said, the desk staff we're very helpful and spoke many languages. We we able to purchase a Budapest card from the desk and have them call restaurants we were interested in to make reservations. In the lobby is wireless Internet and a coffee machine that we used everyday.

The other guests were friendly and we were able to chat with them while waiting to ue the computer or restrooms.

DP is 20 minute walk from 2 metro lines (the 1 and the 2), which made getting around budapest very manageable. I would recommend this location to others but know what you are in for: it is a room with a bed. The staff were great but it is certainly not a luxury hotel.

Cheap and basic hotel. I was not blown away by the first impression of this hotel, but it did grow on me. The warm and friendly reception from the hotellier made up for the dark surroundings.

If it is a low cost hotel with no frills you are looking for, then the Dominik Panzio is the place for you.

This is listed as a TWO STAR HOTEL, it should be rated as a ONE STAR HOSTEL.

In the Hotel the carpts are worn, the paint is old and has plaster peeling off the wall. On the floor under the radiators are insect traps.

The toilets and showers are very old and dated, and you will be relying on others in the Hotel to keep them clean. We found them un-usable and took to using the toilets at the local McDonalds.

Our room had three beds - they were actually bed bases with no matress, the sheets didn't cover the bed, neither did the duvet.

No blackout drapes, and our curtain when closed had a gap at either side of the window.

The free parking is actually parking on the road outside the hotel.

Dont waste your money, look for something a little more up to date.

And the hotel is not in a good location, not safe at night

The bathrooms are shared and I believe this is gross. Secondly they claimed they had wireless internet and they didn't. The location was okay since there were busses continuously taking you to downtown.
The rooms are not impressive at all and the sheets and pillows are not extremely clean. There are not enough towels at all.

really not impressed! will not come back ever again.

It's not a hotel, it's a pension meaning the bathroom is NOT in the room but at the end of the corridor and shared with the other 10 rooms on the same floor.
We stayed a week, and the towels were not changed once. The beds were like a wooden base with a 5cm-foam mattress on top. The bed linen was not covering the full size of the mattress, you could see a good 20 cm of mattress under the pillow.
The breakfast was expensive for what you had on the buffet.
The \"car park\" is the driveway next to the building, which can park 4 cars one after the other, so you have to leave our keys at the reception.
35€ per night for this, it's not worh it.

Epitome of cheap, except it costs

While the airfare/hotel deal I purchased is considered cheap, if one were to accept the standard rate at Dominik Panzio, they would be terribly overcharged. No personal restroom/shower in the rooms, a very basic and cheap breakfast, and rock-hard beds all seem to make an attempt to mask the faint smell of mold throughout the entire building. All this being said, it is, indeed, a surprise to find wireless internet access, provided one is willing to carry their laptop to the waiting area by the front desk in order to remain inside the router's limited range. Fortunately, bus stops can be found all around the hotel, because walking to the downtown area from the hotel and back would leave one weary enough after just the first or second day of touring.

Good budget place to visit Budapest

I was very impressed with Dominik Panzio in Budapest. First it looks very nice as it is located in a former Dominican Monastery which is really cool. Second, for the money you pay you get exactly what you need if you are planning to visit Budapest. The staff is helpful, the rooms are clean, the bathroom clean as well (but this has also something to do with the \"quality\" of the guests. The breakfast is certainly eatable. Beds were very confortable and the rooms were quite cozy. Bottom line, you get what you pay for but allaround is a good hostel.

A good basic hotel

It is a basic hotel and for the price I thought it was excellent. Very good service and reception very helpful. I was originally taken to the wrong Dominic as there are three (I think) and was transferred at their cost! I would stay there again.

Only negative comment of our trip - not very comfortable mattresses. Otherwise, extremely good value and combined with cheap flights would make for a very reasonable holiday - we would go back.
